Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

Thank you to everyone for welcoming me.

My nickname is in reference to a Rhino by the way (Strength, Courage, Tough...)

I've been reading past threads a lot today, getting some ideas. I'll spend tomorrow sorting out what I have and what I may need to get. I am pretty much dairy free (may make it harder), and gluten free (probably is going to make this much easier), but I am also trying to reduce animals products (so swinging myself back into hard with that). I'll see how I get on. Low carb is definitely the best way to start from my reading, as opposed to keto.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to past threads - so much awesome information.

ZiggZagg · 10/03/2021 20:10

That's lovely, @nowlook! See how supportive these ladies are! No one would want my expertise, unless of course you're fed up of your children and wish to place them for adoption Grin

Anyway, good food day-

L Chicken kebab with cucumber and celery
D was Beef Tomato with Cauliflower Rice

I also had some double cream with 2 squares of dark chocolate melted in then slightly frozen (like ice cream)

But better with water, 3 liters today!

cheeseisthebest · 10/03/2021 20:14

@ZiggZagg do you work in adoption?

nowlook · 10/03/2021 20:15

Funny you should say that Zigg
What's the going rate for a sullen 14 year old? Not housetrained. Positive qualities include being able to reach the top shelves in supermarkets and clear fridges.

(This is lighthearted)

nowlook · 10/03/2021 20:16

I can see you're a planner @TubbyUnicorn! It's exciting getting ready for the start, isn't it?

TubbyUnicorn · 10/03/2021 20:20

@nowlook Quite a planner, I get easily overwhelmed if I don't and will give up quite quickly.

It is very exciting! Eating breakfast is probably going to be the biggest challenge as I don't currently do that the majority of the time... Which I think may be why I feel sluggish all the time.

Have put a measuring tape on the list. I've never actually measured my body circumferences Hmm

I do drink a lot of water (just seeing the recent posts on water).

ZiggZagg · 10/03/2021 20:22

No @cheeseisthebest , I actually work in safeguarding but didn't want to say I'll come and snatch them Grin

@nowlook I don't know but if you find out, let me know as I have that exact same model Wink

Ninkanink · 10/03/2021 20:29

@TubbyUnicorn welcome! 💐 after the first two strict weeks you can drop breakfast anyway, so I wouldn’t worry. Just have a little of something, even leftovers from dinner the night before! I never have breakfast now, but for the very odd occasion.

Doilooklikeatourist · 10/03/2021 20:33

Thanks @nowlook , that’s so kind of you , we think we’ll move on ( he did an equation type sum showing he was thinking along those lines , ) we want a clean break and will go to plan b
There’s always a plan B and better things are around the corner

Visualises super slinky me wafting around in retirement on a sunny beach somewhere ( probably Tenby this year )

NotwatchingSpooks · 10/03/2021 20:34

Thanks Stuntnun I am going to just koko and try to find some NSV s tomorrow.

@Doilooklikeatourist , arse, I’ve been there, our house sale and purchase fell through last year , 2 weeks before exchange, just before we went into lockdown. As the world appeared to be poised on a precipice it did help me not to feel to upset, I was too scared of what COVID would bring. It must have cost us a couple of thousand pounds, which I try not to think about it. Our buyers pulled out, so we lost our sale and as a consequence we also lost the house we were going to buy.

A year on I’m glad, we have decided to stay in our house for the time being and we have enjoyed being here in lockdown. We were going to downsize, but now we are going to stay, we have decided to spend some money and do a complete makeover on a couple of rooms, on the basis we will enjoy it and it will make it more saleable in the future.

I hope that in time you can also get some positives out of your situation too, but in the meantime am sending you an unmumsnety hug and Flowers

Ninkanink · 10/03/2021 20:39

@Doilooklikeatourist commiserations on the house! Hoping it turns off for the better for you! 🤞

nowlook · 10/03/2021 20:40

It's always interesting to hear the different bits that different campers struggle with Tubby. Some find the no alcohol rule a real bind; others are already tea total. Some really crave chocolate; others can take it or leave it.

For example, pre-BC, my only liquids were (without exception) Yorkshire tea and merlot Wink

Dailyhandtowelwash · 10/03/2021 20:43

@Doilooklikeatourist I hope something better is round the corner.

I am wrestling with house issues at the moment. We want to move back to the UK (farewell, cheap oysters) but need new jobs. We own a house where we also have friends, know the schools etc but the only jobs on the horizon for DH (main earner) are either Scotland or the NW. In Scotland we have a few friends and big vibrant city to live in/near but the SEND system I don’t think is right for my child. NW we know no one but DH’s racist aunt but could buy a nice house and SEND system same as here. Or do we stay here for longer and sell our house (as I keep reading it’s the height of the market right now) but then we’d have nowhere that would be ‘home’? All this goes round and round my head.

nowlook · 10/03/2021 20:49

Well, the offer's there if you ever need it tourist You're right about plan B- and it often works out better than plan A...

I'm now violently intrigued about your DH's line of work @Dailyhandtowelwash Grin

cheeseisthebest · 10/03/2021 20:52

Where do you live now dailytowelhandwash?

nowlook · 10/03/2021 20:58

For those of you with house-selling woes and quandaries, hope this raises a small smile

StuntNun · 10/03/2021 21:04

I've been so busy at school I keep forgetting to post my food. I was hungry yesterday so I decided to have breakfast for a change today.
B: kippers with rather an excessive amount of butter, one almond cheese muffin
L: cheeseburger pie and coleslaw, pork scratchings
Snack: boiled egg, piece of 70% chocolate
D: Ragz's epic dirty celeriac fries, a few nuts afterwards as I was still peckish but eating breakfast does that to me.

Tomorrow will be:
L: cheeseburger pie and coleslaw, olives, peanuts (having to take a packed lunch to school
Snack: the last almond cheese muffin if I'm hungry and possibly the last bit of chocolate
D: sausages, celeriac and leek mash, green beans

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 10/03/2021 22:29

I've done a search but can't find the post about Ragz's dirty celeriac fries. Can anyone help?

nowlook · 10/03/2021 22:31

It's on the Vegetarian recipes thread on 11th Feb.

FusionChefGeoff · 10/03/2021 22:45

Food today:

L: prawn Mayo and avocado salad with Hm vinaigrette, couple of small bits of cheese. Still hungry so Greek yog after.

D: leftover creamy korma, saag paneer, roasted cauli and aubergine.

I was pretty full of dinner but it was so unbelievably yummy I kept going until I'd cleared my plate Blush

The point off a Brie as a boredom snack - getter better but still an issue I need to work on.

.5l water with zero tablet, 3.5l water, 2 black teas, large pot of fresh lemon & ginger, 5/6 herbal teas

Does anyone else suffer with palpitations / ectopic beats? My heart went bananas this evening and I wonder if it's electrolyte related as I had a particularly high liquid consumption??

I downed a small glass of salty water and it settled a bit but that may have been coincidence

Andi2020 · 10/03/2021 22:56

Hi everyone just seeing this thread is there links to previous threads.
I have started my own diet and lost 2lbs first week but would like to follow use for motivation.
How much water should I drink per day.
And fruit. Some fruit are very high in carbohydrates like bananas and I find it so handy to pick one up while waiting on dinner.

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 10/03/2021 23:02

Thanks nowlook Flowers.

prettybird · 10/03/2021 23:10

There aren't links to previous threads - although the old threads will have the link to the next week's thread.

If you look for the thread with Week 1 in the title from January then you'll be able to follow our progress and support over the weeks.

Alternatively, just jump in Grin. All the necessary information is in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which is linked to in the opening post. Thanks

We’re currently in the Channel Islands, but not from here. DH doesn’t have a very exiting job! It’s fairly generic management stuff he’s applying for but none of the roles he’s applied for in London have worked out yet.
