Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

Andi2020, no bananas, and very little fruit. None at all to begin with.

venusandmars · 11/03/2021 00:03

@TubbyUnicorn one of the best things I've learnt is that breakfast doesn't have to be special foods and it doesn't have to be a a special time. It is whatever you eat, and whenever you feel you should eat it..

It might be eggs, or bacon, or soup or yogurt, or left-over steak / fish / veg / curry...

Food today was:
B - coffee with cream
L - cheese and corned beef 'sandwich' with lettuce and cucumber; boiled egg
D - beef casserole, FLGV (cabbage, grated courgette, spinach, cauliflower) fried in butter and olive oil

Hello all, I’m someone who has dropped off the thread a bit recently @nowlook - but I am still here and still on plan! Just haven’t had much time to post I’m afraid (and nothing very exciting to say!).

My weight is coming off VERY slowly - probably about 0.5lb a week, I’ve hit the 1 stone off mark but then usually the next day go back up a tiny bit for a few days. Hoping to cement that loss this week. I might aim to cut down on cheese and cream (although I don’t actually have that much). Or try and go back to basics for this last few weeks. I have been able to start swimming again the last two weeks (they opened the pools) so have been swimming most days Mon-Fri and usually 1km a time. Feeling very sore today so it is hopefully doing me some good!

Hope everyone is ok. Can’t believe we only have a couple of weeks to go - I’m on week 10 as I started in 1 jan. I’m really proud I’ve stuck with it so long and plan to continue. I couldn’t have done it without these threads - everyone has been so helpful and so supportive and with great ideas for food! Smile

Dailyhandtowelwash · 11/03/2021 08:03

That’s great, @Onelittlepiglet!

I’ve gone done 2lbs today finally after gaining and losing the same pound for almost a fortnight. I’m also due on any time now so dare to hope that another pound or two might go by next weigh in.

My eyes are on getting under 160lbs, which hasn’t happened for a long time, and is now imaginable. And that would leave me just 20lbs from a very respectable weight indeed.

Jollyholibobs · 11/03/2021 08:10

Welcome @TubbyUnicorn

Great progress @Onelittlepiglet and @Dailyhandtowelwash

@Doilooklikeatourist so disappointed for you. Flowers

Dailyhandtowelwash · 11/03/2021 08:14

I couldn’t sleep last night and have cheered myself by finding this house.

I love it @Dailyhandtowelwash! Grin
Looks like something out of Poirot. Wonder when it was built?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/03/2021 08:45

Lots of light! The garden has huge potential. Lots of lovely snow in that area.

nowlook · 11/03/2021 09:25

I'm imagining your thinking Daily. Right. DH's best employment prospects are in either the North West or Scotland. This looks about an hour from each of those places. And what's a small commute between friends? Grin

Mimosa1 · 11/03/2021 09:57

Good morning everyone! Sorry to hear about your property woes @Doilooklikeatourist. I've had some splendid holidays in the Channel Islands / Jersey and look forward to going back some day...

I've had the week 1 woosh which is extremely satisfying! if only it wasn't all Xmas weight and the some

For those of you with a Cook shop near them or who order from there online, I heartily recommend their Peking duck - substitute the pancakes with cabbage or just have it on its own. Utterly exquisite and very BC friendly !

cheeseisthebest · 11/03/2021 10:11

Sorry about your sale falling through doilooklikeatourist.
Oh channel islands, lovely.
I weirdly craved milk yesterday and drank about half a pint! Strange and it did taste very sweet.

BIWI · 11/03/2021 10:31

@Andi2020

Hi everyone just seeing this thread is there links to previous threads. I have started my own diet and lost 2lbs first week but would like to follow use for motivation. How much water should I drink per day. And fruit. Some fruit are very high in carbohydrates like bananas and I find it so handy to pick one up while waiting on dinner.
Welcome @Andi2020

We have our own topic, so you'll find all previous Bootcamps there. But probably more useful is to look at the spreadsheet, which is linked to in the OP of this thread. On the tabs there you'll find Bootcamp rules as well as a lot of resources that explain what low carb is all about.

The amount of water you should drink is determined by how much you currently weigh - see rule 6 (on the spreadsheet).

In the first two weeks of Bootcamp you aren't allowed any fruit; after that, for the remaining 8 weeks, you can have some fruit, in moderation - but mainly berries and certainly not bananas as they are way, way too carby.

I'm busy cooking multiple meals - fish stew for visiting frail elderly PILs at the weekend also cauliflower cheese, and chocolate mousse (not together) Grin, beef casserole for their freezer, lunch for dd and dgc for Sunday (mother's day)... and I've lost sight of what we're going to eat today and tomorrow. I've got aubergines so maybe aubergine parmigiana? With some broccoli...

prettybird · 11/03/2021 11:17

Aubergine parmigiana sounds lovely Smile

I'm 36 hours into a 38 hour fast after our blowout virtual meal and lots of wine on Tuesday night. Could probably keep it going until tonight but we're going to my dad's for lunch (the twice weekly highlights of our social calendar, going to/from each other's houses, taking it in turns to do midweek lunch/Sunday night supper) and he'd worry it was a sign of disordered eating if I didn't eat anything. He can just about cope with the HFLC, so I make an omelette while dh and he share a Lidl de luxe pizza and a beer.

I'm on Day 11 of my earring challenge: another pair of South African beaded earrings. They were the first of 4 different ones that I managed to find the matching pair for! Shock I really do need to clear out that box of "costume" jewellery - full of bracelets, earrings, watches all in a tangle Blush I have a separate box of necklaces ShockBlush

Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!
1stMrsF · 11/03/2021 11:30

Hi all. I've just been catching up over the last few days. Going back to school and therefore for me to work has been a big shock to the system, and I haven't had much capacity. I've also completely failed to plan or shop properly and some of my meals have been comedy combinations of foods scavenged from leftovers or fridge staples (frankfurters, avocado, fried kale and a soft boiled egg anyone?)

I was interested by the discussion on people who have 'dropped off' the threads. Since losing 2 stone doing BC in 2019, I've twice joined subsequent camps and dropped out pretty quickly finding that I just wasn't in the right headspace - particularly during the previous lockdowns, which I found very stressful. I've also gone quiet when finding sticking to the rules difficult so as not to temp/undermine other people's efforts. However, one of the things I love about the threads is the support, the crazy banter between regular posters and knowing that I'd be welcome to sidle back in if I wanted to. It's meant that if I'm not as compliant as I would like to have been, I don't have that 'might as well not bother then' feeling - it's always worth getting back to it and I know I can continue to join back in again.

I've also been reflecting a lot during this BC about sustainable WOE vs diet. I could be losing weight faster if I stuck to strict BC, but I'm already a long way from the carb stuffing of 2020 (and I've lost 10lbs which is absolutely brilliant), and therefore I'm at peace with a long term, generally downward trend and to making it work with my life. e.g. I could bring lunch to work every day but I would find that more stressful than adapting a school lunch that may not always be completely ideal and then I'm more likely to stick with it long term rather than give up more quickly. Sorry long ramble, but hopefully interesting contribution to that discussion. Thank you to everyone who does post frequently and supportively, it's really helpful.

Lunches this week
hm feta and spinach frittata with avocado and mayo
sausages (swerved mash and brought leftover stir fried kale from home)
chicken curry (brought spinach and greek yog to add vegetables and up the fat content)
today is roast gammon and cabbage and I've brought some cauliflower cheese

D - DM is making us a dish that is cod and prawns baked with cheese and cream, served with FLGV - I must ask her for the recipe and add to the threads, it's perfect BC food.

BIWI · 11/03/2021 11:55

That's a great post @1stMrsF Flowers

I think, though, it's important to post when you've gone off plan, as it does illustrate to others - whether they post or lurk - that it can be hard (for all manner of different reason) to follow this WOE. By sharing experiences, I think, also helps us all to develop our own strategies for coping with things in the longer term.

What I've learnt over the years is that, actually, losing the weight is relatively easy. It's maintaining that loss that's the hardest.

It may not seem like that when you're trying to get rid of those pesky pounds, but when you're actively dieting that's your raison d'être day by day. Once you get to your target, it's a whole new territory for you to conquer!

Confession time: I have progressively delayed lunch over the past few weeks so as to coincide exactly with Judge Rinder. Judge Rinder ffs.

I think this is much more serious than posters having a few biscuits tbh.

OverweightPidgeon · 11/03/2021 13:01

Omg ! Me too , I plan my morning so I can sit down and watch him!

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 11/03/2021 13:03

What's FLGV please? And there's another one (NSV?) if anyone could set me straight? TIA.

nowlook · 11/03/2021 13:09

FLGV= fuck loads of green veg
NSV= non scales victory (better sleep, complexion, losing inches etc)

LittleMy77 · 11/03/2021 13:15

@Dailyhandtowelwash we moved back to the UK from US last year and had similar quandaries on where to live etc and education / sen provision

I will say the SEND offering seems to vary hugely from one council / borough to the next, and even within the same one, it often depends on the specific school SENCO and how switched on they are

I toured schools (not an option I know atm) to get a feel and ask specifics on support as it’s easier to gauge ideas / decisions then

Selfishly I’d probably choose an area where you’re near friends (or at least driving distance!)

LittleMy77 · 11/03/2021 13:18

In other news I’ve had a massive woosh- not putting it here atm in case it’s a one off broken scales aberration Grin

I also bought some new clothes; lovely summer dress in size 14 which wouldn’t have fit 8 weeks ago, but is now slightly big around the bodice - sending it back as a result (typically they don’t have a 12 now!) as it’ll be too gapy if I lose a few more pounds

Doilooklikeatourist · 11/03/2021 13:41

Fell off the wagon in spectacular style ( I’m pleading extenuating circumstances )
Just had a fry up , and been for a walk to clear our heads
B wholemeal toast and butter ( to soak up the wine )
—————————————————-
( draws a line underneath it )
L fried eggs , mushroom and bacon
D . Slow cooked pork shoulder stew type thing with roast cauli and green beans
Lots and lots of water

Thanks for all the good wishes , much appreciated

1stMrsF · 11/03/2021 13:46

LOL @nowlook

Jellycatspyjamas · 11/03/2021 14:09

I’m realising how much I eat through sheer boredom. I spent most of lockdown face first in a packet of biscuits telling myself I needed the energy/respite from homeschooling/comfort/other bullshit excuse. I’m working from home and the kids are back at school and oh my goodness the desire to go and binge on crisps, biscuits, toast is driving me crazy. I’m not hungry at all - it really is sheer boredom, wanting to break up the day and habit.

Every time I get that feeling I get myself a drink, but the chat about mindful eating has made me realise how much completely mindless eating I’ve been doing. Hard habit to break.
