Morning campers!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

We're half way through now. Hopefully by now we should all be getting used to a low carb way of eating, which will mean we should be fat-adapted.

I hope you've enjoyed the recipe challenges, and I really look forward to reading more recipes.

I especially hope that the challenge has lured the lurkers out! Please post your recipes!

And, of course, here's hoping that we all have a good week ahead

Thin doesn’t equal healthy, @ouchmyfeet. A lot of the people smugly posting about how irresponsible overweight people are will, themselves, have undiagnosed metabolic syndrome from high carb diets. They stand a risk of being a “burden” too.

I hope you don’t feel bad. It’s not our fault that we got overweight - something has clearly radically changed in our food environment. If you or I were born 100 years ago, chances are we would never have had these issues. But we are able to change things, and I really believe low carb is the way.

My mountain was never all that big, but it felt big to me. For most of my twenties I only ever really had a stone to lose to get to a weight where I felt happy. I would normally do that with crash diets. When I realised I was two stone away from my happy weight thanks to Covid, I was so disheartened and I felt miserable because I knew I couldn’t crash diet for long enough to lose that. But it actually turned out to be a blessing because it forced me to find a lifelong WOE that’s actually healthy and sustainable.

I tried not to think of it as a mountain to climb, but just making the best choices for me every day, and trying to be who I wanted to be NOW (and that was someone who ate well and exercised). The rest has followed - and I know it will for you too.

ShagMeRiggins · 28/02/2021 09:27

I'm thoroughly depressed by a poster who said that a woman with a BMI over 40 has a 1% chance of getting to a healthy weight

ouchmyfeet read carefully and do exactly as I say:

Make a sign, laminate it if you can**, and hang it somewhere you will see it every day.

In fact, make as many signs and put in as many places possible that you will see them all day long.

Be creative if that’s your thing. Meme it up if you like, or add drawings/pictures that speak to you.

The sign will say...

I. Am. The. One. Percent.

This is also needs to be your new username. IamtheOnePercent

**I was PTA chairwoman for three years and I know the power of lamination. That’s why everyone is afraid of The Illaminati. Fact. Grin

@lyrata I am (in a nice way) super jealous! I was hoping to magically melt away to your weight but no, Sts for 7 weeks now. Waaaah. Would love a peek at 3 days of your food to compare?

Woke up starving today probably due to terrible sleep. Normally do 16:8 but ended up eating three eggs mashed with butter and mayo in lettuce wraps. Lunch will be some kind of salad and dinner melanzane with brocoli.

I have done 2 24 hour fast this week, one square of choc is my only off plan bit. Have to admit I am frustrated. I have tried carb counting and usually between 20 and 50g. Sigh. I know its not just scales that matter and I am less bloated, but seems like that's the only weight type change rather than loosing any fat if that makes sense. Will do 3x 24 hour fasts this week. I would rather do that I think than calorie count.

Hope everyone is getting the beautiful sunshine and are getting out in it. Long walk plus run today is the plan.

Bestbees · 28/02/2021 09:49

Oh and @ouchmyfeet ignore the doom mongers and know you are making good choices! Listen to the illaminati @ShagMeRiggins

@ouchmyfeet I'm not even going to bother looking for that thread, because I know it will be ridiculous.

Anyway, you're far better off here, with all us lovely people! Grin

You will get there, I promise. Flowers

I'm not going to look for that shitty thread. Here's the research they were talking about I imagine.

Now, pin back your ears:

  1. This was just a summary of data from GP practices;
  2. It draws absolutely no distinction between those trying to lose weight and those not trying;
  3. The research found that intervention methods currently used by gps were not working (excluding surgery).

The authors acknowledge many limitations of the research.

Stick with us.

ouchmyfeet Those statistics don't represent your chances; only you can determine that.

All that 1% means is that roughly 10,000 women in your position got healthy! That's loads of women making changes just like you are!

MarmaladeTeepee · 28/02/2021 10:22

@ouchmyfeet those threads are just full of trolls trying to make themselves feel better by putting others down. I'm in 2 minds about the body positivity movement, but there's no denying how fit someone like Lizzo is, the fact that she can full on dance, sing and play flute for a full concert proves that fat doesn't equal unfit. And as an obese person who had covid I can confirm I was absolutely zero burden to the NHS, in fact I'm zero burden full stop!

Kudos to you @StuntNun for bouncing on a trampoline without a tena lady, 2 DC have ruined bouncing for me!

cheeseisthebest · 28/02/2021 10:36

Shagmeriggins that is brilliant!
Keep going ouchmyfeet you will do this. No maybe or might, you will. This works!

My lovely teenage daughter just told me I look like I've lost loads of weight. I have explained to her that I'm doing this because otherwise i will end up with diabetes. Just, you know, girls and eating disorders!! Shes amazing though, really got her head screwed on. Currently singing and making pancakes for everyone! Except me obviously!

Could someone update me on the spreadsheet please? Starting from beginning of bootcamp I was 10st 10.5 and am now 10st 2. Thank you.
I'm very short though! So still overweight BMI!

MarmaladeTeepee · 28/02/2021 10:44

@Bestbees I understand your frustration. We can KOKO together, just got to trust the process and know that whoosh is coming Flowers

cheeseisthebest · 28/02/2021 10:52

Bestbees I do feel your pain. Sorry if you have said this but have you tried cutting back on dairy?

cheeseisthebest · 28/02/2021 11:01

My weight is quite stuck too but just measured my waist and in the past 4 weeks I've lost 1.5 inches off my waist. Really happy with that. Have you done your measurements?

ListenLinda · 28/02/2021 11:04

Well, it’s a lovely day here and we’ve all been up since DHs alarm went off for work at 5am. Asked the kids if they wanted to walk to the park, but DD ended up faffing and DS decided he wanted a nap so now i’m sat here counting down until lunch time 😁 cheese and bacon omlette with a huge side salad is my plan.

@Bestbees I understand your frustration.

Couple of things - you are probably not that far away from being a healthy BMI at your weight/height, so weight loss is inevitably going to be slow. So portion sizes will come into play here. Fasting will obviously help with overall calorie intake, but perhaps you could assess what you are eating and see if it could be cut down a little? (Please don't do this if it means starting to starve or deprive yourself though!)

If you've been carb counting, and sometimes you're up towards 50g carbs, this could be your answer - some people are more sensitive than others to carbs and it may be that you have to stay very low.

Why not try the Uber camp three day plan - it's in the spreadsheet. Three days' worth of carb counted meals, so you know how low the carbs are.

I think, too, that you need to be strictly consistent at this stage, to get things moving again - the odd piece of chocolate, the occasional gin etc - give those up for a week, focus on the carbs and see what happens.

Up the fat and the water as well.

And if all else fails hopefully @StuntNun will have some words of wisdom to share! Smile

@MrsOmelette Thanks for asking. I am finding it easier this time; since I did it before. When I did bootcamp back in 2014 I lost 20 pounds in 6 months. Also this time I have been intermittent fasting for awhile so I find it easier.

Yesterday I ate smoked fish fillets & kale; yogurt w/cream & flaxseed. Dinner Indian style grilled chicken; salad; fried okra.

The bossy boots are real. This is from some time last year when I was bored shitless had some spare time to fill during lockdown.

It’s the dress I wore when I went with friends to New Orleans for my 30th. Wanted to see if it would fit again and if I’d be brave enough to wear it 25 years later. It did and I am.

This is to everyone: do not let anyone tell you who you are, what you can or cannot do, and how you should dress or behave.

Do not let anyone tell you want to eat or drink. YOU decide. YOU have control.

Also—finally feeling some mild flattening of my stomach area and you know why? Because this week I concentrated very hard on drinking ALL THE WATER!!!

I know it makes a difference and still sometimes don’t achieve it. I have no excuses for that, it was entirely my choice.

I find it infuriating that on MN (and the wider world) being overweight is demonised, but any attempt to address the situation is met with derision if it’s not just ‘eat less, move more’. Any attempt to say that hasn’t worked for you is met with a volley of accusations of being in denial about eating nothing but takeaways and convenience food combined with an entirely sedentary lifestyle. The idea that someone can eat a (conventionally) healthy diet and exercise and STILL be unable to lose weight is dismissed as a fantasy or excuse.

When I was pregnant I took part in a public health project aimed at obese women to see whether an intervention at that stage could be effective. Luckily the midwife who did it with me recognised very quickly that it wasn’t going to be relevant to me, and I ended up becoming part of the steering group for the project, but the materials they were using were very much about getting people to understand how many calories are in Coke or a Mars Bar (eg ‘which of these things has more sugar - a Mars Bar or some celery?’) and I was told a large number of women that took part genuinely didn’t understand nutrition. For those of us who weren’t downing 4l of fizzy drinks a day but still overweight there was no help at all as the healthy eating message is so basic. If you eat the way they recommend and remain overweight, all you get is a shrug (and a question on whether you really eat what you say you do).

Dailyhandtowelwash · 28/02/2021 12:04

Meanwhile I’ve had a lovely morning, being very lucky in that we met friends for brunch in our favourite cafe. We had to sit and shiver a bit outside as they brought their dog, but it was still lovely to be able to eat nice food in company! I had an amazing brunch bowl of chilli yoghurt, stir fried kale, wild mushrooms, roast butternut squash, avocado, hot smoked salmon, soy marinated egg and seeds.

The Fast 800 recipe book (kindle version) is on offer for 99p today. I know we don't count calories on bootcamp but I loved the portobello pizzas from the Lose a stone TV show! Apparently there was a follow up this week - did anyone catch it?

nowlook · 28/02/2021 12:08

Oh, I love a nice grey boot Shag.

It's so nice today that my thoughts are turning to salad! This looks a decent chicken caesar.

Hopeislost · 28/02/2021 12:08

And I agree with what others have said about a lack of support from medical professionals. At my heaviest I was offered bariatric surgery and told that I'd probably never lose the weight. My BMI is currently 27 and I will get there!

I'm not slagging off bariatric surgery, it just wasn't right for me.

ShagMeRiggins · 28/02/2021 12:11

Dailyhand I share your fury.

Particularly the “eat less, move more.”

Move more is great advice generally, but that is for general health benefits and strength, balance, flexibility.

Eat less infuriates me. Never a mention of what to eat less of, never a mention of nutritional value, never a mention of the quality of the food.

Of course calories matter, but the type and quality of food matters more.

I could eat nothing but apples and lose weight, sure (there really was an Apple Diet ages ago, believe it or not). What would that do to my health??!!

My approach is to be LCHF, enjoy my food and my life, and share my knowledge/experience with anyone who is interested. Other than that, I’m all Elsa.
