Morning campers!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

We're half way through now. Hopefully by now we should all be getting used to a low carb way of eating, which will mean we should be fat-adapted.

I hope you've enjoyed the recipe challenges, and I really look forward to reading more recipes.

I especially hope that the challenge has lured the lurkers out! Please post your recipes!

And, of course, here's hoping that we all have a good week ahead

I think the ratatouille recipe was @ouchmyfeet but don't hold me to that

StuntNun · 27/02/2021 12:31

I took a screenshot of it but helpfully cut off the original poster's name d'oh!

@nowlook

I've never, ever done yoga (or pilates or any exercise class at all). Is it suitable for a complete novice Athelstane?
yes! yes, it absolutely is. I'd never done it before, but she's so gentle about just doing what you can, and relaxing, and focusing on breathing. Really encouraging.

There were a few things I couldn't manage, but generally felt it was just nice and gentle, soothing sort of stretching - I did it last thing before bed and really helped my sleep.

Then on the 30th day she repeated a move she'd shown on the 1st day, and the difference! 1st day I could only hold for a couple of seconds; 30th day I was happily holding for as long as she was rambling on for! At no point in the 30 days was it noticeably 'improving' muscles, but buggering hell, it really does.

yogawithadriene.com/breath-a-30-day-yoga-journey/

I'm a little bit evangelical about it Blush

AthelstaneTheUnready · 27/02/2021 13:02

Frankly, I'm in favour of any 'exercise' that can be done inside in pyjamas.

ouchmyfeet · 27/02/2021 13:19

Yes the ratatouille was me. I usually use a knife for the aubergine and a potato peeler for the courgette. Never tried slicing it with the magimix but I don't see why not. The chopping does take a while by hand. I try to do it when the kitchen is quiet and I can listen to a podcast.

No idea what to have tonight. I've just had a very boring salad with buttery fried mushrooms on top and a couple of slices of corned beef. Cupboards are fairly bare until delivery comes tomorrow, I'm off to scour the recipe threads for some inspiration

AWryGiraffe · 27/02/2021 13:27

I'm also a yoga with Adriene fan. I've also been doing 15 min kettle bell work outs which I think is really doing my core, shoulders and back some good.

I made those cheese almond muffins today - really nice! Not too eggy tasting and nice and light. I had them with cream cheese, cucumber and some fake bacon.

My toddler was awake from 1am-4am last night so today I feel terrible and shattered, just slobbing around, totally wasting the day!

Doilooklikeatourist · 27/02/2021 13:46

Sorry @ouchmyfeet , I credited the wrong person for the ratatouille recipe
When I made it , I used the slice side of a normal grater for the courgette , and sliced the aubergine by hand
There’s a bit left , ( it’s been my main meal twice ) I plan on having the last portion tomorrow
I’ve always done a chunky version before , it’s nice to change things around a bit 👍

FusionChefGeoff · 27/02/2021 14:27

Here's the recipes which struck me as most family friendly including some ideas on how to adapt:

For today
B: slice ham
L: tuna Niçoise salad, pate on celery
D: lamb kebab with halloumi, roasted peppers, cabbage

Hi all, checking in, catching up. Had a migraine for a dayband a half, managed to stick to plan bar two cans of Coke. Not the best I know but needed the boost. I couldn't eat most of thurand Friday but ate this morning, had some scrambled egg. Would have loved some toast but I resisted. Hopefully the Coke won't make too much of an impact. Back on the straight and narrow now.

Who was talking way upthread about set point weight? Was it Marmalade?

I am honestly not having a go, but I thought it worth mentioning that maybe your set point isn’t 195, maybe it had something to do with demolishing a pick & mix?

My understanding of set point—and let’s be clear, it’s a theory—is that this is a weight one can easily maintain but is also the weight that is resistant to long-term attempts at weight loss.

Which means after sticking to a weight loss plan for quite a long time, your body struggles to budge down from that weight. Is that correct?

But that’s not what happened, is it?

I’m not trying to Big Stick you—like Jackie Weaver, I have No Authority Here Wink!

But your post made me think, and I wanted to point out that there are plateaus, stalls, and all sorts that occur during a long-term weight loss plan, but the most important thing is to follow the plan as best and long as possible.

I say this as someone who has lost around 60lbs on Bootcamp over a few years and only about a stone in the last year, and I’ll take it because I’m still about 60lbs down. Feels great. Still 2+ stones to go for Normal BMI, so still staying with it. I don’t believe 176 is my set point. Not at 5’4” and small bone structure. Nope.

So, I don’t believe I’m at my set point; I believe that I’m not following the rules as much as I should!

TL;DR—KOKO, follow the Rules, and WATER!!!

Ps—if you got this far, I wanted to add that it occurred to me you might have been making a joke of it, in which case I apologise for the reply. I’m just worried that this set point theory is gaining traction without—from what I can deduce—huge amounts of research. It could encourage people to simply give up. Flowers

@FusionChefGeoff

Oh. My. God.

Feeling good, little morning trip to the loo. Thought I'd have a sneaky look at the scales which I've not done since I started BC last week....

5 lbs off!!!!!!!!!!!

Whaaaaaaaat??????!!!!!

This is madness. I've eaten the best part of half a bottle of Mayo, all the cheese, fry ups, creamy delicious curries and sauces.....

I was sure that my overall calories were sky high plus I haven't got tonnes and tonnes to lose so couldn't possibly expect the same weight loss I'd seen on the Jan thread.

But there you go. Moved the scales. Weighed twice. Yup. 5lbs down!!!

I am totally re-motivated (felt a bit deprived of my habitual Friday might chocolate binge yesterday) and now skipping off to the butchers to stock up and whipping up a batch of those almond / cheese scones!!

You really didn't believe us, did you?! Grin

Great progress Flowers

Actually even if you believe set point theory, low carb is one of the ways to ‘get around it’ according to some people because you eat enough calories not to upset your body into dialling down your ‘calories out’ but without the constant release of lots of insulin from carbs, your body is encouraged to burn that energy rather than store it as fat.

That is what I read anyway - and I choose to believe it as it is more motivating than set point theory.

BIWI · 27/02/2021 16:15

@VeryLittleOwl

I've been a bit of a carby twat this week - lots and lots of physical hard work, I've ached all over and then I had to go into town on Wednesday to pick up a feed order for the horses and sheep and had a fuckit moment in Tesco and scoffed about 2000 calories of crap in the car park. Finally got the scales back to where I started on Monday this morning, so I have the weekend to try and shift a bit more!

BIWI - I have a question about the Ubercamp tab on the spreadsheet. Is the 'with meat and eggs' menu missing? It starts with the shopping list for that menu, but the next column is the menu for 'with meat, without eggs'.

Hmm @VeryLittleOwl - I don't know. I'll have to go and have a look. I seem to remember it wasn't easy to scroll through the columns/rows for some reason (something to do with being a Google Doc). Alternatively I could just be misremembering that Grin

Off to check ...

Yes - there's a column missing. I'll have to call on the Very Lovely Keeper of The Spreadsheet @AthelstaneTheUnready to see if she can track the missing column down.

Afternoon
My 1 and 1/2lb is still off 😀 hurrah

Ocado has bought the low carb bread, have had a slice, it takes good, but is a very small size, I would say probably 1/2 the size of a normal slice of bread. Anyway I used said slice to make a sandwich and realised I prefer a lettuce wrap. However, it will be lovely for anything toasted.
Anyway here it is, it is £1.55 a loaf and 3.4g per slice

Afternoon all.
Hope everyone has enjoyed the sunshine today. DS test came back negative so we went for a stroll on the canal this afternoon and fed the ducks. Put DS on the reigns, which was a workout in itself, as he gets too distracted and doesnt watch where he is going 🙈
Got a chicken roasting in the oven, DH kids having pasta salad with theirs and crusty bread. I’ll be having an oil dressed salad and coleslaw. DM have me a pack of pitta breads that she got from a low carb website, only 9g of carbs per bread. Bit apprehensive about trying it if i’m honest!

NotwatchingSpooks · 27/02/2021 16:40

I’ve put said loaf in the freezer, as I would not want very often.

It’s obviously not as low in carbs as the one you have to order on line, so I don’t think it is as good for this woe, but that probably depends on how often you would eat it.

Lyrata · 27/02/2021 16:56

And to reply to some other posts -

Well done Cheese that’s fantastic. You really deserved it. Hopefully things will errr, continue to go downhill from here?

Haha, yes Jollyholibobs I feel the exact same way. It is comforting and I also feed myself the ‘just one spoon’ lie. I also have these sweet tiny bowls which I use for yogurt under the pretence that it will curb my eating - but I fill them to the brim and then have multiple of them, so it doesn’t work. Ah well. I told myself I would give up chocolate for lent but at this point I wonder if I should add it back because I will stop at a few squares of that, but yogurt seems to be really tempting me at the moment.

I love your trousers prettybird! Nice top too. That blue is my favourite colour to wear.

nowlook haha yes squats do involve sticking your bum out - I always feel a bit obscene doing them in the gym!

FusionChefGeoff yes I imagine we just report our success or failure (and complain at length about how horrible it is). At least I hope so - if it’s not at least a bit horrible then I won’t feel like it’s working.

One final thing to say - Lidl are doing their Italian range (at least they are in London) and they have loads of good cheese. I got a Provolone and - for only £1.25 400g of mozzarella for pizza. However I imagine it could just as well top aubergine... They had octopus and some other cool antipasti bits too.

I’m making bolognese today and I wish I could send a photo of how good it smells.

BIWI · 27/02/2021 17:00

@NotwatchingSpooks I've had that bread before, and it's OK - but as you say, the slices are very small. Much better, and also far fewer carbs is the loaf from this site

OP posts:
FusionChefGeoff · 27/02/2021 17:01

Talk to me about wrapping stuff in other stuff please Grin

I'm totally behind the salad / sandwich idea in lettuce.

However, I'm struggling with putting hot things eg a delicious lamb kofta I've just prepared, in a lettuce leaf!!

I have sweetheart, white and red cabbage - would either of those work instead of pita? Aubergine slices??

Pesky column now restored, @VeryLittleOwl and @BIWI. Assume someone dragged it out on their hem when they flounced.

@ShagMeRiggins, I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear you're 5'4". You might out-talk me, out-think me, out-low carb me, but I can still loom over you if need be at 5'5"

Athelstane - I'm 5' 5 and a half Wink

I used to think that I was 5'4" Confused but measured myself after a particularly stretchy Pilates class and found myself an extra inch and a half ShockGrin

It helps with the BMI calculations Wink
