Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

@ZiggZagg we had tapas last week. We had deep fried aubergine and cauliflower. Par boil and dry cauli, slice aubergine. Dip in beaten egg then a mix of ground almonds and parmesan. Serve with garlic mayo. Homemade mayo super easy.

Chorizo in Red wine. Don't know if there is a non pork alternative here?

Meatballs in spicy tomato sauce

Celeriac bravas

Slices of manchego and olives

Big salad

We didnt have but you could do prawns in butter, garlic an chilli.

cheeseisthebest · 08/02/2021 20:36

Argh sorry you said no pork!

ListenLinda · 08/02/2021 20:39

I’ve done it again with trying to get the last bit of water allocation in at tea time and i’ve got out of bed three times already for a wee! 🙈

ShagMeRiggins · 08/02/2021 21:07

@cheeseisthebest

Look what's happened to my low carb bread! It's still in date but I've had to throw it away. Gutted! I should have put it in the freezer.
Honestly? I’d have pulled off the visible mouldy bits and eaten that bad boy.

Then again, I’m known in the household for being...relaxed...about dates and mould, etc.

It might be a French thing. One of my French uncles never followed the mussels rule (if you cook and they don’t open, don’t eat them).

He threw them back in and cooked them longer. He’s nearing 70 and still eating all the mussels.

My point is that this ties in with knowing our food. Use all your senses, use your knowledge, use experience. And pass it on.

I once saw a Frenchman in the US, having had a Camembert with a few maggots squirming on top delivered to him from France, flick off the maggots and devour his beloved cheese with pleasure. He survived.

Trust yourselves.

ZiggZagg · 08/02/2021 21:20

Thanks for the ideas will cobble a little menu together Grin

LittleMy77 · 08/02/2021 21:37

Evening. Just caught up, so many interesting tips on a Monday. No weight loss for me but you have made me feel OK about that, I never new it was normal so thanks 😊
B - Greek yoghurt, almond butter and cream
L- mushroom soup and cream, celery sticks
D - 3 egg cheese omelette with mushrooms cooked in butter
2 litres water and 3 cups of herbal tea. 1 cup builders tea

Onelittlepiglet · 09/02/2021 06:32

Thank you for all the words of encouragement and sorry for being so grumpy! I think it’s a combination of everything getting to me - being overseas, stuck in a flat most of the time, homeschooling for nearly a year (my kids went back for three weeks in October...but that’s it!), not seeing my family or going to the uk for 18 months. It can be overwhelming and lonely occasionally.

Big hug to everyone else having a hard time at the moment too. 🙂

This WOE is the only thing I can control at the moment, and I do enjoy the food and feel good on it. I need to have a bit more faith and KOKO. Hopefully the scales will move next week.

Onwards! 💪

oscarandelliesdad · 09/02/2021 07:10

@onelittlepiglet, that sounds really tough. Flowers and Wine.

VeryLittleOwl · 09/02/2021 07:38

No idea why, but I'm having a whoosh at the moment - 1lb gone overnight and 3lbs gone since Sunday morning. Renpho has taken another year off my metabolic age and I'm now only a year over. Also tipped into the lower half of the 10 stones this morning and am just 1.2lbs away from matching the lowest weight I got to in my 2019 boot camp attempt. I'm beginning to hope I might see the scales start with a 9 by the end of this boot camp, I only need to lose another 6.4lbs over the remaining weeks to do it.

Jollyholibobs · 09/02/2021 07:54

Caught up. @BIWI you asked if I am short. I am 5’ 2” with a small frame. My BMI is 20.8 so no I don’t need to lose much if anything but I don’t want to gain. I have lost 30lbs in the last 6 months. I just want to stick here now. LCHF is my plan for maintenance and health. Still have tendencies to eat too much which I am working on. It’s Greek yoghurt, cheese and peanut butter that I tend to overeat now at least not cake, crisps and chocolate! I still feel I am in a precarious balance and could regain at the slip of a spoon. So sorry if participating in BC seems unnecessary but for me all the positive chat really helps to keep me focused on my healthy eating for the long term and working on doing this without restrictions.

Jollyholibobs · 09/02/2021 07:56

@VeryLittleOwl great whoosh! The 9s are in sight.

Absolutely not! You are very, very, very welcome to stay and post - hopefully we can all help you into a good maintenance pattern.

My only concern was if you were trying to lose too much weight (which always worries me, because it can signal someone with an eating disorder/dysfunctional relationship with food)

@VeryLittleOwl you're going to need some smaller shorts!

I assume you're a vegetarian, by your menu? Just make sure that you're getting enough protein - and you're not drinking enough water! You need to be drinking 3.5 litres. (I know you've been drinking tea as well, but most of your water should really be from 'plain' water)

I have lost another pound! My total weight loss since 4th Jan is 7.4 pounds. Thought people might be interested in seeing the scales I've got which sync to my phone and a graph showing my progress over Jan and Feb. I definitely stagnated and went up weeks 3 and 4 and without this group I would normally have given up.

I'm 10st 3 now so that next stone bracket is in my sights!
@VeryLittleOwl you're going to need some smaller shorts!
Not quite yet! Tried them on just now for the first time this boot camp and I still have to lie down to zip them up, although the zip goes up easily rather than there being a lot of breathing in and tugging. Comparison picture is with the last one of the last boot camp, I think there's about 3.5lbs difference between the two.

I’m not usually someone to believe in fate, but I’ve just made the DC pancakes for breakfast and there was a tiny bit of mixture left over.

I thought surely one small pancake can’t hurt, with a drizzle of maple syrup. But as I poured out the maple syrup a massive blob of mould appeared on my pancake 🤮 So that saved me, and I’m sure there’s a moral there somewhere 😂

GorgeousGoldies · 09/02/2021 08:54

@VeryLittleOwl I remember your photos from the last thread I think - you look absolutely fantastic- congratulations 🙌

Lyrata · 09/02/2021 08:56

I finally made the steamed eggs! @StuntNun did you ever try them?

They were good. Very much like a savoury creme brûlée - quite light in texture. The below was two eggs (125ml) mixed with 200ml of chicken stock. I then steamed them in a pan for about 15 minutes.

I didn’t get it quite perfect as the top is meant to be totally smooth. I covered mine with tinfoil as instructed but clearly some water drops sneaked in.

It made a nice change regardless.

I really want to try it! But I’ve not got a proper steamer and I haven’t got the budget this month to buy one. Maybe next month! It looks yummy. 👍

Ninkanink · 09/02/2021 09:06

@VeryLittleOwl fantastic progress pictures, well done!

Lyrata · 09/02/2021 09:09

@Ninkanink I just bought one to put inside an existing pan but I almost wish I hadn’t bothered - I think I could have just turned a few ramekins upside down and used that to keep the dishes away from the boiling water.

Ninkanink · 09/02/2021 09:24

I’m going to hopefully get a proper bamboo steamer soon so I can make dumplings and steamed eggs and other Asian things! I do have one that sits in the pan but its construction means I can’t use it for anything but veg. Maybe next month!🤞
