Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

Apologies for all the questions, but I have another one!

I'm lactose intolerant, fine with butter, Greek yoghurt, and very low lactose cheese like leerdammer. But I cannot touch cream at all. Would I be ok having full fat lactose free milk in my coffee instead? I think the arla lactose free milk is very low in carbs anyway.

So many of the delicious recipes on here use cream too! Arla make a lactose free cream, but it's impossible to find near me. What can I sub for cream in recipes?

prettybird · 10/02/2021 20:19

Full fat Greek yoghurt can be used as a substitute for cream. It just needs to be stirred in towards the end of cooking rather than letting it boil (as you could with cream).

Sulusu · 10/02/2021 20:30

Thx Prettybird.

Oneborneverydecade · 10/02/2021 20:30

Thank you @Ninkanink

I am trying to get my spontaneous shopping under control too. I read this yesterday :
Data from Barclaycard, published in July 2020, found that Britons spent £40.6bn online on non-essential items during lockdown – about £770 a person.
I think I must have spent mine and the kids share during lockdown 1.0.

My muffins didn't look at tasty as yours @BIWI (oo er). I used almond flour by mistake, do you think that's it?

I bought an avocado on Monday because of you guys, today I'm regretting that, also because of you guys - I can't cope with the emotional roller-coaster of this thread. Do I dare book a veg box?

nowlook · 10/02/2021 20:32

For your coffee @Sulusu try unsweetened soya milk instead. 0g carbs vs 2.8g per 100ml in your lactofree stuff Smile

Oneborneverydecade · 10/02/2021 20:35

Bloody hell that lipstick is expensive. It's a good job I'm soap and water all the way otherwise we wouldn't eat

nowlook · 10/02/2021 20:39

I'm terribly impulsive @Oneborneverydecade but I don't have a credit card fortunately. So far this week, I've bought a dining table and chairs, sofa, armchair and rug for the new extension. The new extension that hasn't actually been started yet Blush

In fairness, the dining table and sofa were very bargainous.

nowlook · 10/02/2021 20:40

In fact, the sofa was cheaper than the lipsticks Grin

nowlook · 10/02/2021 20:41

And now I'll not buy anything for about six months because the itch has been scratched to the point of bleeding!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 10/02/2021 21:35

@StuntNun

Ragz I can't peel celeriac without risk of serious injury to myself so I'm probably just jealous!

Pic of the low carb cheese muffins to convince everybody to make them. purplebagladylovesgin recommends one per day to improve blood glucose management so they're medicinal as well as delicious!

Oohh those muffins do look good!

Celeriac peeling - cut the knobbly base and top off with very big (I use a santoku shaped one) knife. Stand on its base and cut down each side to remove thick slices of peel. Vegetable knives and peelers just won't 'cut it' here!

I had to Google the knife shape BTW, I'm not that swanky, I had no idea what it was called!

cheeseisthebest · 10/02/2021 21:56

I need a really good sharp knife but no idea what to get.

ouchmyfeet · 10/02/2021 22:01

Do I just have really good knives/peelers?! never had an issue cutting celeriac Hmm

Or maybe our northern celeriacs are too soft...?

Ninkanink · 10/02/2021 22:17

We’ve got a Japanese knife which is brilliant for this purpose - it slices through a swede like butter and is also great for dealing with celeriac. I think it’s the same type Ragz has got.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 10/02/2021 23:15

I just use a carving knife. One of those Halloween / Psycho affairs (also not knowing technical names). Slice large angles off it (use those bits in stock afterwards).

Just a 1/2lb off for me. But then I haven't been burning calories on insults like some in here this week Hmm Grin

MrsOmelette · 11/02/2021 05:31

I lost a stone Jan 8th - Feb 8th. Really lost interest in eating, which is a bit of a shame and I am trying to get back.
Yesterday: L - one slice fathead pizza, D - heck sausage, sprouts, broccoli & neeps. Today: L - scrambled eggs or nothing, D - mushroom stroganoff.
I’ll try and read the thread later but wanted to at least report in.

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 11/02/2021 07:46

This morning I found DH cutting the fat off my bacon

Obviously I am getting my ducks in a row to LTB immediately.

ouchmyfeet · 11/02/2021 07:52

Small NSV for me this morning. Jeans that were far too tight at the start of bootcamp are now definitely in 'comfortable enough to wear all day' territory. I'm even comfy sitting down in them Grin

These jeans getting tight were the thing that prompted me to tackle my weight (again Wink). Hoping that this will be the last time as I feel like I could eat like this long term.

As an aside, how long is bootcamp? 3 months is the danger zone for me. I know from past experience that I can follow any diet for 3 months, then boredom creeps in and I lose it and end up fatter than I started. Every single time. I'm trying to think of this as a new WOE rather than a diet but still very conscious of the 3 month issue

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 07:58

@ouchmyfeet well done on that great NSV!

Boot camp is 10 weeks (11 weeks this time as we had an easing in week) but there’s always a bootcamp thread running so that people can keep it going between camps. But since we’ve all been so very good this time around, maybe @BIWI would consider keeping it running officially for a few extra weeks? We’ve had quite a few people that started late...

In any case I will be continuing, as will quite a few others.

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 07:59

@Justcallmecaptainobvious Shock Shock does he know he’s going to get the ire of BC??

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 08:00

@MrsOmelette well done on your fantastic loss!

I find that I lose interest in eating here and there, but it does come back.

nowlook · 11/02/2021 08:02

It's 10 weeks ouch, but there's always people to talk to in the period in between bootcamps! I think there's typically 3 (?) in a year, so 30 weeks out of 52.

nowlook · 11/02/2021 08:06

Hand-hold @Justcallmecaptainobvious.

You need to get screenshots of the bacon and copies of all financial documents. Does he have a pension? Then a shit-hot lawyer. Don't let him minimise.

I haven't actually signed up as I started late. 10 days in, Ive lost 5 lbs. I'm so happy. It's years since Ive gotten to day 11 of any plan.

So a big thank you for all the inspiration and the recipes.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 11/02/2021 09:08

I've heard you can book a free half-hour with a SHL. It's the law.

Felt a bit mad yesterday (you may have noticed. Lock-down fever, I think.

Had a lovely zoom yoga class last night, & feel much better.

Excited today, as I'm having my jab this afternoon!

Made a lovely shepherds pie with roast cabbage on the side last night. Delicious.

My appetite has now decreased markedly: it feels very strange. Also, I've lost another two pounds!

A good day.
