Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

Welcome @Dreamqueen! Well done on your loss and on hitting day no.11 of the WOE. Flowers

@ChristMyArse hope things have calmed down a bit in your household after yesterday's ructions. I know it's been said a million times before, but this lockdown definitely feels a lot harder.

Scones and dirty fries are both going to feature heavily in my weekend plans, they both look delicious. Just need to track down a celeriac now, that may well take up the remainder of my weekend!

NotwatchingSpooks · 11/02/2021 09:31

Morning all, my scales have stayed the same, so I am KOKO and hoping that at some point there will be a whoosh.

I have spent this week trying to get our house cleaner and tidier, it feels like a never ending task due to d dog. Anyway having been sucked into several robot vacuum cleaner threads I have bought 2, one for downstairs and one for dd1 and dd2 who are on the top floor of the house. Anyway I have had a NCV (non cleaning victory 😀) told dd2, that said robot vacuum would eat anything that she left on the floor, went up last night to give her a kiss and her room was immaculate 😂 if I had know this I would have ordered one years ago. Dd2 has a learning disability and has all classes over zoom, I am looking forward to her next life skills class when they tell her to vacuum her bedroom 😁 and she tells them she just has to press a button on Bendy the vacuum. Even if it is crap at hoovering it will be worth it not to have to pick up all her stuff.

Anyway, it’s freezing cold here today and I’ve got to walk d dog, so I think the weather will make a difference to my food choices today.

B Greek yogurt
L homemade soup
D beef stew with roasted broccoli and cauliflower

AWryGiraffe · 11/02/2021 09:39

Does he have form for this sort of thing, @Justcallmecaptainobvious ? ☹️

LittleMy77 · 11/02/2021 09:42

Scales are hinting I might be another 1lb down (benefit of being post period..) had a rubbish day yesterday with food, as didn’t eat enough of the right stuff and was starving all day

I ate a piece of chocolate orange (i know) and holy cow, it tasted really weird! It was weird enough for me not to want any more so that’s a NSV right there

MrsOmelette · 11/02/2021 09:42

@Ninkanink thanks, I just don’t want it to turn to an unhealthy action on the opposite end of the scale of you see what I mean. I’m baking low-carb chocolate cheesecake for the kids later, I could easily have a slice but just have no interest.

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 09:47

There’s nothing unhealthy about being able to take or leave a bit of cheesecake. Smile

Onelittlepiglet · 11/02/2021 09:48

@NotwatchingSpooks oo I’d love a robot cleaner! We have laminate floors (rented flat, not my choice) and the dust and hair on them every day is crazy! Mind you, seeing how bad it is, I realise it’s just all hidden on a carpet.... I also now struggle to get the vacuuming done - with everyone at hole the whole time, home school and DH working from home and in meetings all day, there never seems to be a good opportunity.

Food today:
B - Greek yoghurt
L - Greek veg soup with added cheese and a little cream
D - left over chicken things which I cooked in the slow cooker with peppers, onions, various spices, tomato purée and some coconut milk. Cauliflower rice, and a pile of buttered green veg.

Hope everyone is ok - I’m KOKO and find I’m rarely very hungry now. I eat loads so I’m not reneging myself, but don’t even think about food in between meals which I used to do!

Onelittlepiglet · 11/02/2021 09:55

Er... that should be ‘green veg soup’, ‘hole’ should be ‘home’ and ‘reneging’ should be ‘not denying’! Fat fingers!

Ninkanink · 11/02/2021 10:04

I’m sure it’s not you - it’s the confounded auto-incorrect!! It stealthily changes ‘this WOE’ to the WOE and makes me look like someone who can’t speak/write properly! Angry Angry

StuntNun · 11/02/2021 10:31

@ShagMeRiggins sugar alcohol sweeteners such as erythritol are only partially digested and absorbed so they taste sweet but don't affect your blood glucose (apart from xylitol which has a small effect.) Whether that means they're "safe" is a different matter. Sugar alcohols can cause bloating and diarrhoea. They might affect your insulin levels. They act on the same sweet receptors of the tongue as sugar and trigger the same reward pathways in the brain so you don't lose your taste for sweet foods. I personally find that artificial sweeteners make me feel hungrier generally and slightly upset my stomach. In my opinion they're worse than sugar so I would rather have a "real" dessert, preferably made with a smaller amount of sugar, than have an artificially sweetened dessert.

Bestbees · 11/02/2021 10:38

Morning.
I am doing a good job planning and meals are great. Not hungry, but still struggling with eating (on plan) snacks in the evening. Any tips? I think it's boredom probably.

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 11/02/2021 10:47

DH got me an 85% Lindt bar so is forgiven for the bacon transgression 🤣.

@Bestbees for me it’s a combo of: make sure there’s plenty of fat in your meals to keep you full, keep yourself busy, have water to hand to sip as soon as you feel hungry, and just push through it for a few nights to break the habit!

Pancake day next week...I’ve seen a few recipes around, are there any which anyone here has tried and would recommend?

On sweeteners, I think I’m going to have to get something for coffee. I had a tiny bit yesterday (1/4tsp instead of my previous usual 1 tsp) and it was so much nicer. I’m hoping that if I’m using it to cut bitterness rather than being actively sweet, the impact will be lessened.

ouchmyfeet · 11/02/2021 10:51

All these muffins look amazing. I'm not eating almonds yet but may give them a try at the weekend.

In a similar vein, does anyone have a recommendation for a bootcamp friendly pancake recipe?

There are plenty of keto pancake recipes online which I can have a go at, but some of them sound awful and lots have obscure ingredients so just wondering if there's a tried and tested favourite out there. Happy with savoury or sweet.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 11/02/2021 11:00

Scones and dirty fries are both going to feature heavily in my weekend plans, they both look delicious.

So much this. And also not a fan of sweeteners. Even when not on Bootcamp, I only really like almondy or very dark chocolate desserts. All the non-expensive restaurants near me only ever offer really sweet readymade puddings so I've got out of the habit of eating dessert when I go out, which is very liberating!

Onelittlepiglet · 11/02/2021 11:05

@Ninkanink 😂 at ‘the WOE’! My phone has some very odd autocorrect phrases and words....my least favourite is when it corrects a particular swear word to ‘duck’ which makes me even madder....!

nowlook · 11/02/2021 11:24

@Justcallmecaptainobvious
If you're trying to get rid of the bitterness in coffee, have you already tried adding a sprinkling (just a tiny pinch) of salt? Someone recommended that on an earlier thread.

1stMrsF · 11/02/2021 11:29

@Onelittlepiglet I know what you mean about finding the right moment. I've been meaning to vacuum the kitchen for 2 days now but there is always a child working in there or I'm cooking or clearing and think I'll do it afterwards.

@Bestbees something I found helpful in the evenings is either a decaf espresso with cream or a liquorice and mint tea, which seem to kit that 'just need a little something' need. Last few evenings I've taken a bottle of fizzy water (have a Sodastream- another excellent BC tool) and a glass to my TV watching and kept sipping and refilling.

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 11/02/2021 11:31

@nowlook I have yes, didn’t make any difference until it got salty! Someone mentioned they think it works best in instant, I drink espresso or filter so that could be it. But, that’s a good reminder thank you - I originally tried right at the beginning, probably worth another go now my tastes are changing.

Bestbees · 11/02/2021 12:02

Thanks @1stMrsF I do have a soda stream. I need to fancy it up with ice and lemon in a wine glass to make it more treaty I think.

Might get out the Cross stitch. Really it's a will power thing I know. I think I really enjoy the physical feeling of eating. Sure there is plenty to psychoanalyse there! (no rude suggestions about ways to solve enjoying something in my mouth please WinkGrinShockBlush
