Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 21:30

So much chatting, I've had to start a new thread.

here's the Spreadsheet of Absolute Fabulousness

Remember, this week (like week 3) is notorious for seeing little or no weight gain, so please don't panic if the scales aren't moving for you - always assuming, of course, that you have been following the rules 100%!

Also, the Very Amazing @StuntNun has started a thread about fasting. Fasting isn't a regular part of Bootcamp, but it's a tool that you can use in your weight loss 'journey' (sorry for the cliché!)

have a look here, and think about if it's something you might want to incorporate into Bootcamp

I hope very much that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now; but as ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help.

Good Nink cos I overheard Biwi telling Stunt that your mum shags the PE teacher. She's told like e v e r y o n e.

Sulusu · 10/02/2021 16:15

HI guys.

I have been reading your threads and lurking a bit. Am starting Low carbing on Friday (still have some pasta etc to use up). I have done the Blood Sugar 8 week plan before with a lot of success. Sorry if on wrong thread, but how similar would you say bootcamp is it the BSD?

Oneborneverydecade · 10/02/2021 16:17

Sorry @Sulusu I don't know but you have great timing Grin Everyones gone a bit lockdown lala

cheeseisthebest · 10/02/2021 16:19

There's no calorie counting. You can eat unlimited amounts of food as long as they are the right foods. Lots of fat! Go back to first thread and read everything! Its changing my life, its wonderful.

I've just started reading Downsizing by Tom Watson which is about how he lost 8 stone eating low carb high fat and reversed his diabetes

Ninkanink · 10/02/2021 16:21

@nowlook Shock Shock Angry

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/02/2021 16:22

I heard that too.

Welcome @Sulusu !

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/02/2021 16:23

Apparently only posh people in books from the thirties have supper.

FIGHT! FIGHT!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/02/2021 16:23

I'll stop now.

Lyrata · 10/02/2021 16:29

I heard BIWI’s favourite yogurt is a fat free fromage frais

nowlook · 10/02/2021 16:30

From what I remember @Sulusu there are some key differences between the two (we don't eat much if any fruit). Best thing it to have a thorough read of the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness that BIWI links to at the beginning of each thread. All the rules are on one of the tab.

nowlook · 10/02/2021 16:42

Defo on the weekly shop

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - how much chatting?!
Sulusu · 10/02/2021 16:46

Yes I have been reading the first thread and getting my head round it.

I did notice the lack of fruit, especially in the first couple of weeks.

My main worry is uh lack of fibre, what do you suggest as when I low-carb'd before getting things moving was a bit of a problem, despite adding chia seeds and eating tons of veggies. My body was like "hello where is the high-fibre?" And pretty much went on strike for No. 2s. Blush

Apologies for the er... details.

ListenLinda · 10/02/2021 16:49

I got the pork belleh! Any guesses whats for tea in my house Grin

prettybird · 10/02/2021 16:57

Welcome Susulu Thanks Re your concern about fibre, because you are supposed to have a FLGV (Fuck Load of Green/Good Veg) on this Way of Eating, it shouldn't be a problem Wink

Plus if you have all the water and fat that you should be consuming, that should help keep things, ahem, moving Grin

Oneborneverydecade · 10/02/2021 17:02

NSV: when I started lchf I had 3 pairs of 33/34" jeans that I'd bought, found were too small but been to lazy/disorganised/optimistic to return. At some stage they began fitting and I've loved them. But now they're too big and so I've ordered the same jeans in a 31/34" and they fit perfectly (for now Wink). I'm going to sell the too big pairs - in fact selling off old clothes paid for the new jeans.
That and a new house plant (and the nonsense on this thread) have cheered up an otherwise v mediocre day

ShagMeRiggins · 10/02/2021 17:09

I love/hate all of you for having so much fun without me.

Ragz, I hope you’ve put the dirty fries on the recipe thread. I also hope you’ve put that gorgeous looking sauce that you used for meatballs on the recipe thread. Pretty please.

Generally laughing my head off with most posts (or at least smiling, certainly not spitting tea all over my keyboard Hmm), but for some reason Lyrata’s “AIBU don’t deserve to be skinny” comment produced a bona fide snort.

And under the category of Shit I’ve been Wanting to Ask for Ages:

StuntNun were you serious when you said that xylitol and eri-blah blah blah-ol (that prettybird uses don’t actually count as carbs because they just flush away, etc? If you have a minute, please help me understand that.

Lyrata (again)—you mentioned AGES ago that you’re basically a redhead, and also mixed race. I notice you have a lot of East Asian food in your daily meals. No need to answer, but I’m desperately trying to envision which races, because I have a Scottish/Korean in my head. Confused

Who is the poster with seven children? Ah, MrsOmelette! I wanted to ask you to please change your name to CaptainOmelette so I could happy sing...”A captain with seven children; what’s so fearsome about that?” I thank you.

So much more but that’ll do me now.

Eating is going well, water less so, and I am busy but bored out of my fucking skull. #groundhogday

Mwah! And WATER!!!

prettybird · 10/02/2021 17:09

Going back to the avocado and mango discussion, my cousin is one of the senior managers at Westalia, one of the largest avo producers in the world. Iirc, he says that they don't (or didn't) sell to Lidl/Aldi as a matter of course, but sometimes they supply batches. Ditto with mangoes.

I regularly look at the boxes in Lidl to see if they are one of "his" Wink

Needless to say, any avos we had at his house were perfect Grin (Long time since we were in SA though Sad)

Doilooklikeatourist · 10/02/2021 17:13

Walks in eating a muller light and drinking a Diet Coke

Back in the real world is cooking Bolognese type sauce ( using turkey thigh 7% fat ) the others are having pasta , I’m making mine into moussaka type , with lovely creamy cheesey sauce

Been out for a bracing walk , it’s so cold here , but clear and dry , it doesn’t rain all the time in Wales , contrary to popular belief

nowlook · 10/02/2021 17:15

An omelette with 7 children scans fine Shag

Captain Von Trapp is a complete fox.

Ninkanink · 10/02/2021 17:15

Welcome @Susulu!

As others have said, it’s actually rare to be constipated on bootcamp because the veg fibre/fat/water intake takes care of things. Many people do tend to poo less (sometimes only every few days) because there’s no gunk in the system and far less waste for the body to process. But that’s not a problem at all.

@Oneborneverydecade Congratulations on that brilliant NSV!

Doilooklikeatourist · 10/02/2021 17:18

@Sulusu I remember being worried about a lack of fibre and the lack of poo and it was explained that as we’re not putting all the unnecessary white carbs in our bodies , there’s not going to be as much waste coming out the other end

Sulusu · 10/02/2021 17:37

Thanks for the tips Smile

I have sort of started yesterdatm but got some proper carby things to use up, before my shop arrives on Friday. I have had very few carbs for 48 hours now though and this afternoon I have been back and forward to the loo. I remember that from last time, tons of water loss initially. Also I have to go up the stairs to the loo so I'm getting exercise at least! Grin

What frozen green leafy veggies do people find good? I find frozen spinach and cabbage no where as nice as fresh, but I only get a shop once a week so its a bit tricky with the fresh stuff.

prettybird · 10/02/2021 17:47

I only shop once a week: I get loads of brussel sprouts (you'll see reference to "shoogled sprouts": sprouts microwaved with a slab of butter, shoogled half way through and then seasoned generously), cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, celeriac, radishes, courgettes, neeps (Swede for Sassenachs Wink), baby sweet corn... All last well for a week or more.

I have chopped frozen spinach (I put cubes into bolognaise and chilli to add to the veg content) and green beans in the freezer. I've run out of frozen whole leaf spinach at the moment but I quite like to defrost a few cubes as a base for, say, my kidney bean-less chilli, with butter and then some chopped garlic stirred through.

Almahart · 10/02/2021 18:10

Evening all.

Some time ago I seem to remember someone posting some top tips for cauliflower mash - has anyone got any to share?
