Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

Morning!

Didn't manage to post yesterday, and have just caught up with the thread. Loving all the pet pics. We've got two arsehole rescue dogs who are the bane of my life, but also lovely.

I've been following BC light to the letter, except last night when DH served up a delicious goulash with peas. Not the worst 🤷‍♀️

I had a mini Prosecco & half a mini bottle of red wine on Friday, & the same on Saturday. They were delicious!

Other crazy-adventurous eating included four Brazil nuts, & two handfuls of blueberries.

I think that's all my extras listed.

Oh no! Just remembered, I had a small latte on Saturday morning. Is that big-stickable? Happy to drop it, but it was tasty. If it's going to sabotage weight-loss, it's not worth it.

Hope everyone has a good day. Snowing again in the South!

(I remember that Boswell thread).

Motivateinmotion · 07/02/2021 10:14

Loving all the pet pics! Unfortunately both me and DH are highly allergic to cats but we hope to get a dog one day once our schedules allow for not leaving it home 6+ hours a day.

@prettybird love the sound of coffee creme brûlée so can’t wait to see that recipe.

Hungry mouth vs bored mouth is definitely something I struggle with. I’m not sure I even really know what hunger is let alone satiety anymore Blush I’m really trying mindful eating but still don’t think I’m very in tune

Ninkanink · 07/02/2021 10:16

@ouchmyfeet have you tried roasting chunks of celeriac just like you would with potato? That’s what I’m doing tonight for our roast chicken dinner.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 07/02/2021 10:29

I adore roast celeriac. Similar enough to roast potato to psychologically fool me!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 10:33

@BustleInYourHedgerow

Made a parsley and mustard sauce with some cream and sautéed shallots and stock from the ham. It was nice but sauce was a bit thin, wonder what we can use to thicken sauces?

Either:

  • use less liquid to start with, or
  • boil the stock till it reduces, or
  • use a stick blender to blitz the shallot into the sauce, which will thicken it

Morning everyone!
I seem to be losing .2 of a pound a day atm which I'm quite happy with. Almost half a stone down since jan 4th which I'm really happy about.

BIWI · 07/02/2021 10:43

@nowlook

I need your sofa *@AthelstaneTheUnready*. It's exactly right for the kitchen!

My cat is an evil bastard, unfortunately. Dogs are ace, though.

I've given myself a day off the ready meals. L: fry-up
D: burger topped with blue cheese in a flat mushroom bun with celeriac mash and broccoli.

Have you all seen the £50 sandwich? Joking apart, I think the ingredients on the Millionaire would be quite nice together (gold optional).

Edible gold is really a thing now - they seemed to be using loads of it in the last Masterchef! I really don't get the point.

Mind you, nor do I see the point of spending £50 on a sandwich!!!

@Fagey

Hi all.

Please can I join you guys?

I'm 10 days into the Fast800 and really feeling good with a low carb life. 9.2lb lost so far. X

Welcome @Fagey!

We're not about calorie counting here though - so please don't try and incorporate that into Bootcamp.

Really well done on the loss so far! Hopefully we can help you to lose even more Flowers

I had to give dh a lockdown haircut. He has a ridiculous mop of hair, and was starting to look like a crazy professor. I will only do it outside because there is so much mess, but today it was freezing. My hands were shaking (a bit worrying when I've got the sharp scissors near dh's ear) Shock It's taken half an hour to warm up. I don't remember having such cold, sore hands since I was a child making snowmen.

@Motivateinmotion I too find it hard to adjust to what I need to eat. Often halfway through my meal I feel like I could stop, and yet I find my self ploughing on. I've just ordered 2 smaller plates for our dinner service so that I can start with smaller portions...

Depends where you had the latte/how much milk, but this is what's in a Starbucks latte:

A latte is a shot (or two) of espresso balanced with steamed milk and a light layer of foam. This drink comes in at 100 calories, 15 grams of carbs, 14 grams of sugar and 10 grams of protein

... so I'd say be careful otherwise The Big Stick will have to come out Grin

@venusandmars

That's a really good idea. Traditionally, apparently, the 'standard' size for a dinner plate was 10.5 inches, but now it's increased to around 12 inches. I think it's driven by restaurants, who use the bigger plate to frame their food so it looks more elegant/well presented - but in the home, I suspect just leads to us having bigger portions.

@Dailyhandtowelwash I really like it too - especially when it’s gone lovely and soft but has the crispy/chewy edges. Yum. Psychologically I find it also helps to have something that feels ‘right’ with the meal, that way I’m not missing out. That said, celeriac dauphinois is delicious too!

BIWI · 07/02/2021 10:54

@LittleMissNoSoPlump

Glad the yoghurt turned out well - and really well done on the 5lbs! Flowers

We had a takeaway last night, first for a long while. I had a naked burger, 3 ribs and some homemade Celariac roulade, up a lb this morning , sigh. Not a single chip or burger bun passed my lips, no alcohol etc, but I was incredibly thirsty so I wonder what was on the ribs.

Dd2 loved it though and she really asks for very little except posh pickle for her lunch time sandwich and the odd takeaway about every 4 weeks.

Today we are having roast lamb as well. For the poster who is struggling with growing rosemary, I have a plant that was bunged in the top of a old chimney pot, it is the best rosemary I have ever grown, I wonder if it’s because it drains well and the roots have never sat in water. We are in the SE though so it maybe it is just warmer here.

I’m hoping last night pound on will be gone for tomorrow’s weigh in.

Jollyholibobs · 07/02/2021 11:00

Ah yes bored mouth big issue here.

Cat with no manners in the kitchen cupboard because the door was open. We love him.

Today no snow despite the forecast hope I can persuade DH out for a walk soon.

Loving all the cats and dogs and the horse. Am missing my weekly riding lesson. I may have lost my nerve after such a long time, nearly a year.

B black coffee
L cheese salad. Lots of grated and mandolined raw veg + avocado
D mackerel, swede chips, fennel and beetroot salad and leftover yoghurt dressing

Disaster in the VLO household - DH is doing next week's Tesco delivery and they have removed celeriac from the root vegetables section! I can find it if I Google 'Tesco celeriac' but when we search for it logged into our order it's not there. I may have to go on a foraging expedition in the smaller Tesco near us (the deliveries come out of the bigger one 45 miles away).

Massive NSV this morning, the Renpho app has removed another year from my metabolic age and now only thinks I'm two years older than I actually am Grin

BIWI · 07/02/2021 11:25

What a great NSV! Grin

But shame about the celeriac. I'm going to have to go to the shop today, despite having a food order coming later. Foolishly I chose a mid-evening shop, and I realise I need some stuff earlier than that, to make our meal for this evening. Perhaps I'll go on a celeriac hunt as well.

Another lamb joint going in the oven here 😁 just ending week 4 and have gone up on the scales... It's hard not to feel a little despondent, but the knowledge that week 5 starts tomorrow and hopefully starting to lose again feels like something to look forward to. This group really helps, as without the timely reminders of stalling etc, it would be easy to give up.

So here's to a slow roast lamb Sunday on a snowy day with you all, and KOKO xx

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/02/2021 11:41

Blimey, I get sucked into netflix (just 10 years behind the rest of the country), and look at all the words!!!

@nowlook - sofa was john lewis i think - looked through billions and nearly died of online-sofa-ennui before finding the right one (it's in the conservatory).

everyone with dogs - i miss dogs Sad but working full-time in the office it wouldn't be fair. my organisation has said only into the office maybe a day a week in the future, but i'll wait and see if that turns out to be true before making plans. I have desperately wanted an irish wolfhound (or 7) since i was tiny, but with my cats getting on a bit now it would not be great to mix elderly cats with cat-chasing sighthound.

Hi, @Fagey, and welcome!

B: none (overslept, see netflix ref)
L: black coffee, since i have to go out delivering in a minute
D: more roast chicken, sprouts, broccoli, courgette, roast garlic
2nd D: as above

i tend not to list my food every day since living on my own i'll make a big pile of something, and then be eating it for days on end. makes for really boring reading for everyone else Grin

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 07/02/2021 11:46

Well, it was a homemade latte with about 1/5 of a pint of semi-skimmed milk & no sugar.

Maybe I'll risk it once a week & drop it if my weight loss is stalling in week 5?

ouchmyfeet · 07/02/2021 12:11

I've got 2/3 of a large one left so I'm going to do roasties and dauphinoise and keep the latter for during the week. Nothing to do but batch cooking on a lockdown Sunday Confused

Doilooklikeatourist · 07/02/2021 12:38

Big NSV here , managed to do 3 x 5 minute runs with a 2 minute walk in between
The last one was challenging , but for someone who hates exercise ( and can never remember how to spell it ! ) I think I did well 👍

L will be a nice ham and cheese omlette
D pork shoulder with loads of veg

I had a good Tesco shop yesterday ( went in myself , its a big day out ) managed to get both celariac and aubergine

Jollyholibobs · 07/02/2021 13:24

Great NSV @Doilooklikeatourist. Well done.
