Week 3 - Jan '21 Low Carb Bootcamp - time for Light?

BIWI · 31/01/2021 11:40

Well thanks to all the chat, I've had to start this week's thread earlier than usual Grin

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all

You now have a choice: you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce nuts and seeds, some fruit and alcohol - all in moderation.

However, also bear in mind that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for little or not weight loss and this is nothing to do with moving on to Bootcamp Light. It's just something that seems to happen.

So it's up to you. You can stay on Bootcamp if you wish, or move on to Bootcamp Light, or a hybrid - so you do Bootcamp during the week but relax into Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide - good luck! Here's to a good week ahead.

@nowlook I can’t do zoom.

But I’d totally be up for unboxing photos here on the thread.

Livelongandprosper · 31/01/2021 15:03

@prettybird Thank you for inspiring me to take regular photos of me trying to get my target jeans on. Thanks to a handy mole I have on my side, I can see how much further they are sneaking up each week Smile

Bestbees · 31/01/2021 15:14

Just checking in!

Will be mostly sticking to bootcamp but thinking of 1/2 lite meals a week eg. Going to make tapas on Friday and will include almonds and almond flour for deep frying cauli. Prob a glass of red. Planning on having some plums from the freezer for pudding with that meal which had been soaking in brandy. So not perfect but not bad. Might add berries in during the week if I fancy it.

@cheeseisthebest I too am going to avoid cheese Mon-Thurs. Normally Friday. It manche go is on the menu with tapas!

Hi all. I've been lurking this time a bit rather than hanging out here.

I have a question though. Dry January and low carb has served me well. I'm worried booze creep, like carb creep, will scupper me. Drinking also bring back my appetite. So I'm going to stick to the weekend religiously and limit so I don't ruin my work.

@BIWI please ration me! Use the stick if needed. How much wine can I get away with?

StuntNun · 31/01/2021 16:03

MrsTerryPratchett you need to set yourself a limit for alcohol. That could be only having alcohol on the weekends, no more than x units per week, whatever you think would work for you. A bottle of wine is 600 calories so even one bottle of wine spread over a week can have a substantial effect on your rate of weight loss. I also recommend using a measuring jug to measure one glass of wine (175 ml) which is two units of alcohol as it's very difficult to judge volume by eye. If you're drinking spirits with mixers then remember that the sugar in low calorie mixers, and the artificial sweeteners in diet mixers can also impact your appetite making you eat more while/after drinking alcohol and even the next day.

Just came on to catch up from the last couple of days and we are on a new one already! I do read a lot but never get to the end to feel I can reply. Oh well, new thread, another chance to try keep up!

Boo to COVID @Bumbledee . Such a difficult position for everyone right now but I hope it passes quickly. I has it just before Christmas and am fine now, I wish the same for you!

I have a cabbage delivered in the veg box. Anything exciting with a cabbage? Saw a chorizo and cauliflower stew I might try and adapt.

Also planning to stay on bootcamp rules at least another week. I don't expect much from tomorrow based on weigh ins yesterday. Not sure why but maybe water intake. Could that hinder weightloss, if you don't reach the target? Cos mine is so high!

prettybird · 31/01/2021 16:12

@Livelongandprosper - glad my soft porn embarrassing picture was inspirational Smile

I'm going to leave it until I break through into 10st something until I try my dress on again. I don't want to put extreme strain on the buttons too often isWink

Sorry - can't help on that front! You'll just have to suck it and see.

But don't worry. The Big Stick is all ready ... Grin

@DulcetMoans there's a recipe for stuffed cabbage on one of the Bootcamp threads - I think it's in the meat one.

StuntNun · 31/01/2021 16:21

@DulcetMoans what kind of cabbage is it?

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/01/2021 16:25

Sorry - can't help on that front! You'll just have to suck it and see.

But mmmuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmm

As @StuntNun says 600 calories isn't nothing.I will try to be abstemious.

Ninkanink · 31/01/2021 16:26

@DulcetMoans not hitting water target will almost certainly have a detrimental effect on weight loss - it really does make a big difference.

On cabbage, your stew sounds like a good idea!

I would roast some cabbage wedges too.

I’d also make a coleslaw or remoulade (this is especially nice if you use celeriac as well).

You can’t ever go wrong with fried cabbage (lots of butter, obviously, and also some garlic).

Or a Thai/Japanese/Chinese/Korean-style salad/stir fry.

Lamb and cabbage are also a match made in heaven. I love the Norwegian take on it (fårikål).

BIWI · 31/01/2021 16:26

Here you go @DulcetMoans:

Oriental stuffed cabbage parcels

This quantity will make enough for 4 generous portions. Will try and be as precise as I can about measurements:

1 large savoy cabbage (or 2 smaller ones)

1 pack 4 pork steaks (make sure you get fatty ones!), cut into small dice
1 tin water chestnuts, chopped
1 green chilli, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
1 large spring onion or 2 ordinary sized ones, sliced
4 baby sweetcorn, sliced
4 mushrooms, finely chopped
packet fresh coriander, finely chopped

light soy sauce (a good quality brand like Kikkoman)
2 teaspoons Chinese 5 Spice powder
black pepper
sesame oil

Put the meat and the vegetables (not the cabbage) into a large plastic/Tupperware box. Sprinkle with the Chinese 5 Spice powder, then add a generous sloosh of soy sauce and sesame oil. (I'm guessing at least 4 tablespoons of each) and season with black pepper. (Don't add any salt - the soy is salty enough). Leave to marinade for at least half an hour.

Heat a wok until it is very hot, then tip the meat mixture in and stir fry for about 5 minutes, until the meat is no longer pink. Leave to cool

Then prepare the cabbage - cut the stalk end off, and peel away the leaves. Cut away the bottom part of the tough stalk - this will make a sort of V-shaped cut up the centre of each leaf. You will need 2-3 leaves per person, and they need to be a reasonably decent size, hence why you may need 2 cabbages. Blanch the leaves for 2 minutes, then drain and leave to cool.

When everything is cool enough to handle, stuff the leaves with the meat mixture and put the rolled up parcels into a steamer. Steam for 10 minutes.

BIWI · 31/01/2021 16:27

If it's a white cabbage, I've done something similar - blanch the leaves to soften them, and then stuff with whatever you like. Then I've baked them either with a cheese sauce over the top, or a tomato sauce over the top.

OP posts:
Ninkanink · 31/01/2021 16:28

Oh yes I assumed it was a white cabbage! You can’t really do coleslaw/remoulade with that, but you can use it for the rest of things I mentioned.

DulcetMoans · 31/01/2021 16:33

For look at all those ideas! Thank you! It's a savoy and I looked at it very confused when it arrived. I'll see what else I have from the stuffed recipe!

And will try harder on the water. It shouldn't be that hard!

oscarandelliesdad · 31/01/2021 16:41

@Bumbledee I hope you start feeling better really soon Flowers Flowers
Checking in to the new thread. Think I will stick to bootcamp proper for another week and start berries next weekend. Am a glutton for nuts though so they may need to wait.
B - Avocado and boiled eggs with salt.
L- leftiver chicken tray bake and a babybell
D - Beef stewed with leeks and flgv in butter
Also had a lovely coffee with double cream while I watched the kids eat custard creams. Must do better with their sugar intake, they were just cold and fed up after the beach today.

Ninkanink · 31/01/2021 16:46

It’s harder the higher your target, of course, but I find it’s best to just build it into my day with little habits like I’ll get up in the morning and the first thing I do in the kitchen is have two big glasses of water. Then I leave a glass by the sink and pretty much every time I’m in the kitchen I’ll have a glass. I also sometimes put a bottle in the fridge with some cucumber or lemon to infuse into it, that way I have a slightly different drink at lunchtime (or whenever). Then on bc lite some evenings I’ll have a big glass of tonic with ice. The last thing I do before bed is to drink another two big glasses full.

Ninkanink · 31/01/2021 16:47

@Bumbledee wishing you all a speedy recovery!

ListenLinda · 31/01/2021 16:50

Having a great Sunday so far! As I mentioned yesterday, I had nothing for breakfast in, so two creamy coffees. Didn’t feel hungry as such but I was ready for my lunch, which was two chicken thighs roasted to get the skin all nice and crispy. Salad alongside, dressed in olive oil & mayo.
My team won 😁 the kids have played nicely all day, i’ve started a new book! (Doesnt happen all that often with a 3yo & a 1yo!).
Got a roast chicken in the oven, making roasties for everyone else, will start veg prepping soon. Will go easy on the gravy. Sainsburys delivery in an hour or so, with minimal substitutions. Along side my good news on Friday, really had a lovely weekend despite the grimness of lockdown.
Excited to get on the scales tomorrow, but also apprehensive. Seeing the beginning of my period but i’m still chugging the water.
Hope everyone else is having a lovely Sunday Smile

In the past I have loved this diet because I could drink wine and still lose weight but I have to say I have lost shedloads this month (have just finished week four) and I am pretty sure it's cos I have completely cut out alcohol. So I guess it just depends how fast you want to go
MrsTerryPratchett · 31/01/2021 17:45

True @Almahart

I think I didn't slow or stop in weeks three and four because of no alcohol. Normally I'd stall in 3.

MrsOmelette · 31/01/2021 17:47

My husband: “Did you make this pizza?”
Me: “Mmmm yes, why?”
Husband: “It’s one of the nicest pizzas I’ve ever had!”

I think fathead dough is going to have to go into my repertoire of family foods. It was so easy too. 😊

Ninkanink · 31/01/2021 18:20

I might actually be willing to give fathead pizza a go, with that ringing endorsement! What recipe did you use?

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 18:25

Oh hello!

Thank you for the new thread. Just checking in.

I have been out for a low carb shop today - hope I've got it right. Preparing to start tomorrow! My weight hasn't changed as I haven't really started, but will add it anyway.
