This Bootcamp has gone crazy! I'm very hopeful that means that the results on the scales/with the tape measure etc will have been positive.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I love this week. For so many, it's a total vindication as well as complete reassurance that this WOE really works!

I hope, very much, that the scales are kind to you and look forward to hearing everyone's progress.

Those that are reporting smelly breath or a taste in the mouth, how would you describe that?
I have noticed a change too but don’t know whether it’s my vape I can taste more or a change due to ketosis!

BrassicaBabe · 27/01/2021 20:22

Haha @AthelstaneTheUnready You are my drinking twin Grin

Jees, this wine chat isn't helping my Dry January. Promise not to get bladdered on Monday. Mostly Grin

@nowlook

Just caught up on this morning's posts during my lunch break!

I didn't have enough fat or salt in my evening meal yesterday and really noticed the difference. Felt hungry when I woke up. To make amends, I've had a very well-seasoned cheesy bacon and mushroom omelette with a plate full of spinach cooked in lots of butter and salt. Feel so much better now!

As I recall, there are quite a few of us BCers who are less able to moderate alcohol consumption. The idea of having a small glass of red is fine, but there's absolutely no way I wouldn't continue to have all the other small glasses of red until the second bottle was finished. As such, it's got to be water.

tanoshii · 27/01/2021 20:48

@ouchmyfeet - thanks for the Nigella Clementine cake idea - sounds lush..

@prettybird - came across erythritol by chance today in Sainsbury's so bought some and will investigate - thanks!

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch - will stay away from inulin! Wish I loved baking but alas find it a chore.

So with that in mind, might just make a chocolate mousse for my son's birthday, and put lots of raspberries on top of it. There's a diet doctor recipe which only involves whipping cream, egg yolks and dark chocolate so avoids the problem of sugar at least. Don't think he'll mind as we very rarely have puddings at home, and he rarely gets chocolate, so hopefully it will feel like a birthday treat (even though it's not really a cake as such).

BIWI · 27/01/2021 20:59

@Bestbees I'm sure that @StuntNun will know the science behind your question "Fasting experts does coffee with cream stop the fast as much as eating a meal does?". On the Fast800 site, they say that as long as you keep your calories under 50, then technically you're still fasting.

Virtuous triplets!

I have hoiked some brisket out of the freezer today, so really looking forward to it slow-cooked tomorrow with mushrooms, shallots, celery, a carrot, and that chicken stock I haven't used yet.

To be eaten on a huge pile of buttered broccoli.

PseudoBadger · 27/01/2021 21:42

I had the pork carnitas from the recipe thread tonight - bloody amazing!

You can make that quadruplets.. I'm all or nothing when it comes to wine. 90% time its all, but I've had to curb it a lot in the last year and I still pine for it. I tried "just one glass" and then would loose a day not being able to get out of bed. I can't handle my booze anymore, but often forget that once I'm started!
StuntNun · 27/01/2021 21:51

BestBees as BIWI says the rule of thumb is that up to 50 calories doesn't break a fast. However that's less than a tablespoon of cream so it would depend on how much you're using. It does depend on the purpose of your fasting though. If you're fasting to reduce calorie intake, for example on the 5:2 diet then there's not much need to be strict. If you're extended fasting for the health benefits such as autophagy then any calorie intake at all breaks the fast and should be avoided. However, fasting experts such as Dr Jason Fung advise using coffee with cream or bone broth as kind of "training wheels" to help you learn to fast.

Big food day here today.

B - bacon, cherry tomatoes and courgette
L - black farmer sausages with kale. Never again - I hate kale apparently but will try them for crisps.
D - chicken fajitas (home made mix) with cheese on lettuce leaves. Mix of Greek yoghurt and Mayo on top. Bloody brilliant.

4 ltrs water.

Here is dinner - I didn't eat all of them just most

@VeryLittleOwl

We want to move to the lakes. I keep looking at Rightmove at houses we can't afford on pretty much a daily basis!

Your village sounds amazing! I hope you love living there.

Those look delicious! If I'm trying to do 16:8 a cup of tea with tiny dash of milk would be under 50 calories wouldn't it? I did have a funny taste in my mouth last week, hadnt realised it could be ketosis.
Midlifemission · 27/01/2021 23:36

Struggling to keep up with how busy the thread is but am KOKO here.

Just thought I would share a picture of tonight’s Meatzza in case anyone is tempted to try it .
DH made it . Delicious.
We have it with salad .

Morning all!
@christMyarse, your chicken fajitas look ace. If I can find kimchi today, I'm going to make Korean Bbq pork belly wrapped in lettuce for teenage ds and I tonight. Yum. And then maybe a jiggae for tomorrow... @BIWI Kimchi would definitely be allowed, right? Basically just fermented cabbage but it does sometimes have ginger. Labelling is in hangul so it's always been a mystery Grin

Oneborneverydecade · 28/01/2021 06:36

@PseudoBadger I just had to Google carnitas. Sounds delicious and one the whole family would go for

ouchmyfeet · 28/01/2021 07:05

That meatzza looks fabulous. I will investigate it for a Friday night treat

Bestbees · 28/01/2021 07:17

@StuntNun and @BIWI thanks for the fasting info. I used to be great at fasting and did th 5:2 for a while. I think I just need to force myself to stop being a wuss.

Food for today
L salad with random bits, sausage, egg, cheese and mayo. Greek yog.
D slow cooked lamb breast with roasted veg and kale.
Wateerr

I have found myself having the odd squash which I need to stop as I am sure it doesnt help.

Good luck everyone for the day ahead.

Lyrata · 28/01/2021 07:29

That meatza looks so good! Although I’m weird and I don’t like pizza so perhaps I shouldn’t wean myself onto meatza lest it become a gateway drug for the real thing.

The lettuce carnitas also sound amazing. I might try those in a few weeks.

I can't see how kimchi would be an issue, unless it also has sugar in it?

@StuntNun you were sooooo right! Barstarding stress. Damn that cortisol! Stress button flicked off on Monday. Lost 3lb since!

Bestbees · 28/01/2021 07:58

@BIWI accepts the stick willingly and looks contrite. It was sugar free

Ninkanink · 28/01/2021 08:27

Kimchi does sometimes has a rice flour element to it, iirc. And it does have sugar content. But you don’t need a lot to make an impact so I suppose I’d just treat it as a condiment and very carefully have a little bit for the flavour (since nothing else will approximate it).

You can make it yourself and then you know exactly what you put in it (but that won’t help you right now of course since it takes a couple of weeks, at least, to ferment)!

StuntNun · 28/01/2021 08:30

Nice one Brassica stress is a real problem for weight loss. Also lack of sleep / poor sleep quality.

Bestbees we usually recommend people wait until they're used to eating low carb before introducing intermittent fasting (unless someone was already doing 16:8 before they started Bootcamp.) It takes up to three months to completely adapt to this way of eating. So if you give 16:8 a go but find you're too hungry then go back to three meals a day and try 16:8 again in a few weeks.

BrassicaBabe · 28/01/2021 08:46

Stunt I wish there was some time of evidence I could share. The change is sooo marked. Honestly January has been a real high stress month. Things fell into place on Monday. Stress dropped like a stone. And lbs are melting away. Well, the Xmas gain ones anyway. (Hey, I'm not expecting miracles Grin) I've been back strictly LC since 1st jan. Alcohol free since 1st Jan. But they Xmas gain was clinging on for dear life! Isn't it a cruel double whammy?! Stress and no weight loss feeds the sodding stress Shock
