This Bootcamp has gone crazy! I'm very hopeful that means that the results on the scales/with the tape measure etc will have been positive.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I love this week. For so many, it's a total vindication as well as complete reassurance that this WOE really works!

I hope, very much, that the scales are kind to you and look forward to hearing everyone's progress.

BIWI I bought DH some rum for Xmas. (Heard it was going to be the next Big Thing like gin has become). Not opened it yet. It's dark rum. Is it not really sweet/carby?

Ninkanink · 27/01/2021 10:01

All the talk of tonics has prompted a question for @BIWI: please could you consider allowing slimline tonic on bc lite? Reason being I am trying only to have alcohol every once in a while as DH is abstaining as much as possible for health reasons (he had several heart attacks in December, not due to diet or lifestyle reasons as he is only 42 and relatively fit and healthy, just one of those things 😔😔 but it means he now has to be very careful). I love a glass of tonic when I’m in the mood for a drink but don’t want to have one, and given that lockdowns et al make for quite a challenging set of circumstances, I thought there might be a bit of leeway for sweeteners in that form...

Dailyhandtowelwash · 27/01/2021 10:08

I have another question (not thinking about booze a lot, promise). I'm not hugely a spirits person and like to drink with my food. Is a smallish glass of red wine much worse than slimline tonic?

Cheeseburger pie for us tonight! Am quite excited, and hoping the kids like it. I have a mixed bunch, but one child with ASD and severely restricted eating, and another one who rejects pretty much all vegetables, so I'm hoping to find something that can be a family meal.

tanoshii · 27/01/2021 10:19

@ShagMeRiggins - also need to up my water intake. I was great last week but possibly not been so good the last few days..

It's my son's 10th birthday next week, and was thinking of baking a low carb cake for him. Can anyone recommend a good recipie, perhaps using almond flour or coconut flour? I really want to avoid buying a shop bought cake, as have been trying to avoid giving the kids ANY processed food (my youngest 8 year old is quite chunky whilst the 10 year old is a rake). They're doing really well with their diets, and have even grown fond of salad and stopped the endless snacking between meals..

@tanoshii something like this chocolate torte recipe would work. (Just use 100g ground almonds instead of a 50/50 flour/almond split)

Quite rich for children, so maybe make it with milk chocolate! (And cauliflower for you Wink)

Ninkanink · 27/01/2021 10:25

A chocolate torte would be wonderful with lots of whipped cream and raspberries (or other berry)! And it’s so rich that you don’t need a huge serving. Yummy.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 27/01/2021 10:27

TMI alert:

All ok here, apart from - ahem - constipation.

It definitely is that.

I'm eating FLGV (really) & drinking 3l at least of water.

I've had the problem all my life, and fruit & seeds are the things that work for me.

I've ordered psyllium husks from Amazon, which I'll have in my yoghurt, but I'll be relieved (hopefully literally) when I can have fruit again.

tanoshii · 27/01/2021 10:31

MilesJuppisMyBitch - thanks for the suggestion! Though might have to rule it out because of the golden castor sugar..

Notice a few recipies on dietdoctor.com that use sugar substitutes, but has anyone actually used them? I made blueberry muffins with coconut flour once and added half a banana for sweetness but they were truly awful!

MrsOmelette · 27/01/2021 10:33

I just had a peak at the scales, 9lb off in 18 days - pretty happy with that. I have such a lot of weight to lose I’ve broken it down in to 2 stone groups in my head to not feel overwhelmed. I know it will be a while yet before even my husband can tell but I was doing Oti Boogie Beebies with the wee ones this morning (we do it daily) and felt a little lighter on my feet even whilst lugging a heavy two year old!

Morning, I loved @venusandmars description of why we have to eat fat, self cannibalism made me 🤭😀

The talk of Barbados have made me nostalgic, I am so looking forward to being able to think about future trips in terms of which hotel, apartment etc, rather than will we be able to go.

I have recovered in dd2s eyes (the one with the learning disability who announced she has had enough of me, and who could blame her after 10 months shielding 😂) as we have booked a week in Cornwall for the summer (Fingers crossed) in a house which has a hot tub, her only sadness is that I could not provide her request for “hot, half naked, boys” In said hot tub, I just said there was no tick box for those 😂.

Today
B Greek yogurt with teaspoon double cream
L homemade soup from yesterday
D roast chicken, salad, homemade coleslaw and roasted green beans

2 coffees with teaspoon double cream and probably a decaf with a teaspoon double cream this afternoon, teapig teas and water

Congratulations on your loss so far! A great achievement.

As for future loss - Try mini goals instead! I can’t remember who it is, might be @prettybird, but someone on bc has a brilliant strategy of setting lots of intermittent mini weightloss goals that make sense to her. Two stone is a lot and will take a long-term commitment, but 3lbs to get to X is a lot more achievable in the short term and will keep you motivated and also let you feel the high of reaching a goal more often.

tanoshii · 27/01/2021 10:43

@Ninkanink - yes-a chocolate torte sounds perfect! Thanks. I'm no baker so alot easier for me to make, and less likely to go wrong..

StuntNun · 27/01/2021 10:44

Tanoshii the lowest carb cake I've seen is the Oopsie Cake..*

Dailyhandtowelwash wine and G&T are both equally bad for weight loss. The carbs are a factor but it's the alcohol that's the real problem. When you have alcohol in your system then fat-burning stops until the alcohol calories are used up. Also, alcohol is extremely calorific. There are 600 calories in a bottle of wine which is easily enough to wipe out a couple of days of weight loss. Finally, many people find they eat more when they consume alcohol, and it often ends up being higher carb or high calorie foods such as nuts that we end up snacking on.

Brassica rum is made from sugar but doesn't contain carbs as it's all converted to alcohol. If you have good quality rum then it doesn't even need a mixer so it might be a reasonable option for a tipple.

Pelosi if you're giving blood I would take a low carb snack such as a Peperami or a cheese portion with you so that you can have something non-carby to eat afterwards if you feel you need it. A bottle of water would be a good idea too.

Lyrata when I cook liver I coat it in lots of coarse grained pepper and some salt then fry it in a lot of butter. My kids go mad for the stuff for some reason. Still it's cheap and healthy so I can't really complain even if they're eating my lunch!

prettybird · 27/01/2021 10:50

I use erythritol (substitute for caster sugar) and inulin (substitute for icing sugar or for caramelising), both bought from Amazon, once we are into Boot Camp Light.

I've made a few of Nigella's flourless chocolate cakes (the ones that use ground almonds/almond flour) substituting in the erythritol for the caster sugar and (eg in the chocolate margarita cake, the inulin for the icing sugar in the cream with lots of line juice). The erythritol gives a wee bit of a "fresh" taste - but with the richness of the chocolate, it's not an issue. Both dh and ds love the cakes and don't even realise that they are low carb Grin

(Word of warning: the label says 100% carb but it's a sugar alcohol which apparently doesn't count Confused don't know it it just goes straight through you Wink)

pelosi · 27/01/2021 10:54

Thanks @StuntNun. Gave you given blood before? Do you just go about your day normally afterwards?

Oneborneverydecade · 27/01/2021 11:11

@MrsOmelette it wasn't my idea but here's my example of the breakdown of goals that @Ninkanink is referring to

12st 10 3st lost
12st 9
12st 8 20% off
12st 7 12.5st!
12st 6 healthy bmi
12st 5
12st 4
12st 3 3.5st lost
12st 2 50lb lost
12st 1
12st 12st!

@NotwatchingSpooks your DD sounds like a lot of fun

I'm still waiting for my low card bread to arrive, the longer it takes the more I worry about it turning mouldy

L: pulled pork mayo salad - I had been using the same Pizza Express salad dressing - unless my bread arrives in 20 mins
D: I'm actually not sure

Ninkanink · 27/01/2021 11:16

Another good strategy (I think BIWI or possibly someone else - sorry, I do have an absolutely shit memory these days - has already mentioned it) is to take an item of clothing that is too small, but not way too small, and use that as your mini goal - if you can only just do up the zip/button and your hips and waist are groaning to get out, then in two to four weeks’ time or so it should fit you noticeably better. Even better if you take photos every week wearing it so you can look at the actual physical progress which is often a better guide to how your body is changing than weight loss by numbers is. @prettybird, for example, has a dress she’s waiting to fit properly into, iirc.

1stMrsF · 27/01/2021 11:19

Feeling thinner again today, but still no loss on the scales - proves the point that it's not linear! Will try to drink more water, to see if it might help.

I tried yoga with Adriene yesterday and I really enjoyed it. WFH is making me feel stiff but I also liked the 'taking time for me' and 'being aware of your body' aspect - easy to get lost with that in the melee of home school, wfh, making meals for everyone, everyone being at home all the time...
B - Creamy coffee
L - Need to scavenge from the fridge today as DH is making pasta with green sauce (spinach & cheese) for the DCs. Maybe scrambled eggs and spinach?
D - making a Thai curry with beef strips, red pepper and spinach and will serve with stir-fried courgettes.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 27/01/2021 11:20

Fair enough @tanoshii Smile

I won't use any kind of sweetener (except sugar/ honey/ maple syrup) so I suppose those recipes aren't on my radar. Have fun making the cake! (I love baking). I'd love to see a pic.

The one time I tried using inulin I had crippling stomach pains for two days (to the point where I had to stay in bed), & wasn't back to normal for a couple of weeks!

I'd tried it after watching Michael Moseley's programme about prebiotics & gut health, but it's not for me.

Pandoraslastchance · 27/01/2021 11:25

Todays menu says
Lunch: Pork fillet fried with shit loads of cabbage.
Tea: donner kebab as its date night(we watch the Expanse. Lots of lettuce, cucumber and onion with mayo.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 27/01/2021 11:28

@StuntNun so red wine isn't worse than a spirit particularly? That's good to know. I'm far more likely to appreciate a glass with my dinner on a Friday than a G&T. I'm not going to overdo it!

ouchmyfeet · 27/01/2021 11:34

@tanoshii Nigella's clementine cake might work. In the comments someone has substituted the sugar for sweetener and said it came out okay

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch I massively upped my water intake the last two days (5 litres, it was hard at first but with the Waterlogged app I'm managing quite well now). The biggest impact has been on my constipation, which has cleared itself definitively Blush . It's not something I normally struggle with so perhaps won't help but it couldn't hurt to try?

ouchmyfeet · 27/01/2021 11:35
