This is the full list of those who have signed up. Hopefully you're all on The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (unless you said you didn't want to be!

Remember, weighing in tomorrow is not part of this week, although if you want to, you can put your weight in the 'original start date/weight' columns

Thanks must go, as always, to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for setting up the spreadsheet. You'll see this time that we've amended it slightly so that you can record loss for this Bootcamp as well as since you started, for those of you who started earlier.

If your name isn't on the spreadsheet, don't panic! Just add it to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that later.

If you are on the spreadsheet, but don't want to be, send me or Athelstane a PM and we'll remove you.

Whatever you do, don't touch the blue cells!

If you're using a mobile to access the spreadsheet, you'll need to download the Google Sheets app.

Waitrose sell bags of frozen, diced shallots which take away the chopping hassle. Also diced, frozen celeriac which cooks in less than 5 minutes.

Speaking of shallots, if I replace the onion in this recipe with them, there's no reason not to have it, is there? Or have I missed something?

I'm making some spicy kale crisps atm for nibbling on later. Smile

BrassicaBabe · 16/01/2021 13:35

Bless you BIWI. That's very kind. I appreciate your lovely words 😘

Dailyhandtowelwash · 16/01/2021 13:37

We fry kale with chopped shallots which is delicious.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/01/2021 13:39

Forgot the link for the recipe! This one:

www.thekitchn.com/recipe-slow-cooker-brisket-and-onions-recipes-from-the-kitchn-45437

I've made it before and it's delicious. Perfect for a winter's day. I'll probably do it with some buttery celeriac purée and the leek and courgette gratin. Or may cauliflower cheese.

cheeseisthebest · 16/01/2021 13:46

Oh! Sorry that totally passed me by!

Jollyholibobs · 16/01/2021 13:47

@BrassicaBabe I am running 19-20km on my long runs every week including a 1/2 marathon in December. I have been low carb since August (with a bit of a wobble over Christmas). I think there are benefits to becoming fat adapted and not relying if on short term carb loading particularly for longer distances. If you need the confidence to know you have a plan B carry a snack but personally I would recommend persevering with low carb training. I’m no expert so interested to see what others may say.

crackofdoom · 16/01/2021 13:54

@Datacolour you were asking about Greek yogurt? It looks like Total Greek yogurt (the one that's actually Greek!) is 3g per 100g. It's about twice the price of the others, but my is it worth it- it's delicious!

I've now lost 7lbs in 12 days. Considering that my target is 8lbs, I'm feeling pretty cock a hoop.

Frty · 16/01/2021 13:56

Morning All! Just coming on to say I’m stealing the idea for LC tapas.

Ninkanink · 16/01/2021 14:18

On the tapas topic, that’s one of my favourite treat meals on the WOE - every week or two I’ll have a lovely plate of all sorts of delicious things and it keeps away any sense of deprivation.

This is one from a few boot camps ago...😋😋

Ninkanink · 16/01/2021 14:20

*this WOE...

ZiggZagg · 16/01/2021 14:34

I'm so proud of myself, I have made "facón" and veg soup, it's delicious 🤤 usually my soups turn out crap and I throw them away! With curry cauliflower soup this is now my new favorite Grin

Iamnotacerealkiller · 16/01/2021 14:43

On second full day after dental surgery. Was tempted to eat solids today but my mouth is so tender and im paranoid of disturbing my stitches i couldn't bring myself to do it.

Also the thought of having to be really careful with my chewing and avoiding biting down on the other side doesn't fit in with the gorging i was planning. On the upside the salt water i need to do 5 times a day have been great for keeping up my sodium levels!

I had more of my very nice soup plus a tablespoon of leftover tuna mayo which i slurped down.

Feeling good otherwise and onto my 3rd pint of water for the day. I'm trying to focus on water intake as last bootcamp that made a big difference.

I've unfortunately just done the big food shop so the fridge is full of lovely and low carb food which i just cant face at the moment. Perhaps a blessing in disguise. Despite low carbing for 5 days i have not lost a single pound which is strange for my first week.

I managed to make and serve pancakes to the family without having any (maybe a first).

Dinner will be my last portion of soup then tomorrow i need to plan some actual food that is soft enough to get through.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 16/01/2021 14:45

Glad it turned out well Ziggzagg! your welcome. Off to do more 3d drawing. Must stop procrastinating on here!

StuntNun · 16/01/2021 14:51

Turnedouttoes I did wonder whether keto rash was more likely than shingles. Are you taking medication for your thyroid? If so are your thyroid hormones back up to normal? Do you ever feel really cold or have tingling/numbness in your fingers? Some people with hypothyroid benefit from a slightly higher carb intake to promote conversion from T4 to T3. This could be in the form of a slightly higher carb intake (e.g. 50-100g) per day. However this could potentially slow your weight loss so a better approach might be to have a cheat meal once a week. Porridge would be a good choice, but make sure it's a healthy food - don't go for wheat or sugar. A baked potato or a small amount of rice would be good options. This should help the keto rash and keep your thyroid hormones in better shape. I agree with Athelstane that it might be worth tracking your carbs roughly just to get an idea of what's best for keeping the rash at bay.

Brassica The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance is a good read about aerobic exercise although Volek and Phinney focus on cyclists more than runners. Once you're fat-adapted you don't need any carb-loading before a run, in fact many people find they run better in a fasted state. It's still a good idea to make sure you're hydrated and have enough electrolytes. If you're really worried about the run and think your mindset is going to hold you back then I suggest carb-loading with a banana and having glucose gels available for if you find you need them - which you very well may not. It sounds to me like it's more important for you to do the run than it is to be perfect about food. Does that sound right?

Cerealkiller soft and buttery scrambled eggs were my favourite when recovering from jaw surgery last year.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 16/01/2021 14:56

Thanks StuntNun. tbh i'm riding this train in the hope it can get me through ketosis with as little effort as possible. Its such a waste of food to eat it when i cannot enjoy it properly. Last bootcamp proves that delayed gratification works for me (before i fell headfirst into a vat of caramel very non bc food)

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/01/2021 15:43

Mmm, lovely, salty, oily, crunchy, spicy kale crisps.

Afternoon!

Was all cross after home-schooling yesterday afternoon, & ended up not posting my food. It took AAALLLLL my willpower not to pour a drink.

@Turnedouttoes I hope you feel better soon: that is one nasty rash.

Yesterday: B: yog, nuts etc
L: halloumi & bacon salad (which was too salty), a few berries with cream.
D: Moussaka served 9n cauli rice, after a starter of baked Camembert with crudites.

Today:

B: As yesterday
L: smoked salmon & sour cream salad, then the frozen raspberries in cream suggested by someone upthread. Thank you whoever suggested that: they were lush.
D: I think DH is doing pork steaks.

Ninkanink · 16/01/2021 15:56

Oh goodness @Turnedouttoes hope your rash improves quickly! I’d be having some (mindful) carbs to sort that out ASAP. Flowers

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/01/2021 15:59

Ooh, also, on the tapas subject - padron peppers. Traditional tapas dish, and also score highly on the oily/salty/spicy (occasionally) front.

PastramiNoRye · 16/01/2021 16:09

@Ninkanink that looks delicious!

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal ooh, I love those peppers. Kale crisps look so good!

Ratherchillyinhere · 16/01/2021 16:23

Well, I've lost my appetite completely.

Bacon, eggs and asparagus for lunch.

Coffee with cream.

Baked lemon chicken from diet doctor and salad with olive oil and acv tonight.

Maybe a glass or red wine to celebrate my success so far... but only one of course.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 16/01/2021 16:53

Blimey, I say this every time, but it's giving up the wine that's so difficult for me.

BIWI I'm sorry, but I just had the most humungous battle with myself not to crack open the wine when starting off a roast - I compromised eventually with a couple of yorkshire puddings as a consolation prize. Blush

I'm 12 days into my dry Jan (started late) so hoping next week produces weaker impulses. Might go and look up some extra avoidance tactics...

ChristMyArse · 16/01/2021 16:55

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

Mmm, lovely, salty, oily, crunchy, spicy kale crisps.
Please can you share how you did these?

Thank you!

Ninkanink · 16/01/2021 17:07

@PastramiNoRye Thanks! It’s really nice to eat and you feel so satiated afterwards.👍

@AthelstaneTheUnready I’m not usually too bothered at giving up the alcohol but this time I think it’s going to be quite a challenge - I’ve really got used to the ritual of having a glass or two most evenings over the past year and I’m a very habit-driven person.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/01/2021 17:11

Of course! Low oven - mine is fan-assisted, had it about 110 degrees.

Spread your chopped up kale over a metal baking tray (discard any thick bits of stalk). Coat with oil and flavourings of your choice - I used a mix of garlic oil and chilli oil, and some salt and pepper. But if you don't have flavoured oil then normal olive oil and some sea salt is still delicious - or you could add some crushed garlic or chilli flakes and shuggle it about a bit.

Pop into oven - I gave it 20 minutes, checked it,, and decided it needed another ten, but it'll depend on your oven and how well done you like it.

Once it's sufficiently crispy, remove from the oven and devour. You can pat off some of the excess oil with kitchen paper, but I didn't bother. Fat is good, right? Grin
