Morning all.

We've completed our ten weeks - and I can see from the Spreadsheet just how well it's gone!

But just because the ten weeks are up, doesn't mean we have to stop. So here's a bright, shiny new chat thread for us to keep chatting and supporting each other.

You lot are great - thank you so much.

@BIWI thank you again. You've given me the confidence not to change anything.

I shall carry on!

This diet is a huge deal to me. I had a spinal cord injury 13 months ago which has completely changed my life, and consequently I have put on even more weight, even though my surgeon told me I needed to loose weight. I went so far as to engage a psychotherapist in November and December so that I could get my head in the right space (it's been a bit of a rollercoaster of a year mentally) so I am in the right head space to make changes in 2021 that would benefit me.

I ordered a lovely note book prior to starting, put before and after pictures in etc and it's where I will be charting my weekly weight and measurements.

I think the fact I'm so "on it" is making me nervous about doing it wrong.

I love the fact that this board is so supportive.. it really helps ❤️

BIWI · 08/01/2021 10:33

While all of that is very positive, @ChristMyArse, the other thing I'd say is be careful not to get too obsessed with the numbers!

Perspective is key here - remember that the weight didn't all go on in one rush, so it's not going to come off quickly either.

Also, as countless other Bootcampers have reported, weight loss isn't linear. You may go for days or sometimes weeks without losing anything, then suddenly you'll drop by 3lbs. It's common enough to be referred to as a 'whoosh'!

It's also possible that your medication can interfere with the rate of loss. That doesn't mean you should stop taking it, clearly! But you need to be aware of that.

Ultimately we're all here to help and support so any questions or worries etc just shout.

Thank you oneborn for the recipe up thread - I've bookmarked it.

Last bootcamp was the first one I did properly, but I had been aware of them before, so even though I hadn't joined, they'd had an impact and when I was ready I knew where to find help. I am very grateful to Biwi and StuntNun and everyone else who is here, for the support.

I shall cling on to this Grin

@Lyrata I'm so jealous that you're enjoying running, I've yet to start but already know its going to be a chore. I do look forward to yoga though (not sure that counts).

Also are roasted veg less nutritious? I know some goodness leeches out when boiling but I hadn't considered roasting?

I've lost my Xmas gain and would like to be sub 12st by the 11th although that's probably too optimistic. I tried on my wedding dress this week and it's no where near fitting which is interesting as I didn't think I'd been this slim post DS2 who is 9 tomorrow.

Has anyone watched the new C4 dieting show? I can't remember what's it's called but the Guardian slated it for encouraging yoyo dieting

BurningGubbins · 08/01/2021 12:13

Thanks BIWI, that’s a really helpful steer.

VeryLittleOwl · 08/01/2021 13:14

Stuntnun - thank you for the electrolyte reminder, I couldn't remember where the bootcamp-friendly potassium came from and could only think of bananas! I've been dizzy again today, so now am halfway through a bottle of salt & lemon-laced water.

3.2lbs to go until I'm back where I finished the last BC.

MrsOmelette · 08/01/2021 13:24

@venusandmars that cheese sauce sounds delicious!
I was brave enough to buy new household scales. They came this morning so I got undressed again and gave them a go. I’m not going to beat myself up but was so disappointing how much I’ve gained in last five years. I’ve so much weight to lose in total but I’m going to break it down in to smaller...portions...3 and 1/2 lots of two stones sounds so much doable than 100lbs somehow!
It’s going to be slow going as I’m on medication that my consultant warned me makes you starving but I really am wanting to do this.

BIWI · 08/01/2021 14:43

I'm going to start the first prep thread for the next Bootcamp - the usual warnings and suggestions etc.

But before I do, is there anything that anyone here wishes they'd known about before they started, that I didn't make clear, or you would have liked to have known?

TIA

BIWI maybe that it can have an effect on periods for the first 2-3 months e.g. periods returning in menopause or with the coil, or mid-cycle/ovulation bleeding between period. This is because the hormone oestrone is stored in fat cells and can be released in large quantities upon weight loss (by any method, not just low carb.) It can take a couple of cycles for your oestrogen levels to adapt.

BIWI · 08/01/2021 16:26

Oh yes! That's a good one - thank you.

1WayOrAnother2 · 08/01/2021 18:28

That you have to commit to this and can't have 'cheat days' or 'cheat meals' ? It isn't like low calorie diets.

BIWI · 08/01/2021 18:28

I do usually warn about that at some point, but good point to make it in the prep thread! Thanks @1WayOrAnother2

I also wish I'd have known about periods! Hadn't had one for 3 years and now bang on time every month 🙈

Pleaseandthankyou · 08/01/2021 19:07

I am another one who has been following this for years as well. I don’t stick to it all the time but I keep coming back to it. I don’t usually post on the spreadsheet. I’m definitely not Twiggy but it has kept mainly in a size 12. As I am getting older I do think carbs are affecting my sleep and they definitely make me bloated.
Thank you @BIWI. Your hints and tips have been very much appreciated over the years. I’m probably one of those who have disappeared off a list over the years but I am reading and taking it in 😀

BIWI · 08/01/2021 19:14

Thank you for coming out of lurkdom @Pleaseandthankyou!

So I made cheese sauce again this evening and it was nice and thick..for 2 I used 1/4 pack of cream cheese .. melted a little butter and added a small amount of milk then the cream cheese, some dijon blqck pepper and beat in until smooth then over low heat added about 100g of cheddar and parmesan . Just melted down slowly and done! Had over broccoli.. a little left and it just cools back into an extra cheesy cream cheese. simple!

StuntNun · 08/01/2021 19:28

ZiggZagg please be aware that periods returning post-menopause can be a sign of more serious illness so do consult your GP if they don't settle down again. Periods operate on an approximately 70+ day cycle because that how long it take for a follicle to develop to the preovulatory stage so it will take 2-3 months for any hormonal issues to resolve. It's the same with any kind of hormonal change, for example when coming off the pill it can take a few months to establish a normal menstrual cycle again. In the case of weight loss, if you continue to lose weight and therefore release oestrone from fat cells, then your body will compensate by producing less oestrogen but it does take time.

ZiggZagg · 08/01/2021 20:00

@StuntNun I'm not post menopausal, I'm only 37 Blush I had the implant in my arm after DS 3 years ago and periods stopped! Before that it was 9 years with no periods but I've been having periods the last 4 months regular as clockwork! Sorry to confuse you Smile

StuntNun · 08/01/2021 20:12

Oh cool then ZiggZagg they should sort themselves out over a couple of cycles then.

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2021 21:53

If anyone is interested in the new Fast 800 recipe book that BIWI linked to yesterday, (and shops from Amazon)I have just noticed that its is reduced there today to 8. 50.. (was 12.50 yesterday)

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 08/01/2021 23:59

Thanks Takingontheflab and NotwatchingSpooks its good to be back. So sorry to hear you're going through a bereavement too @NotwatchingSpooks Flowers

It's been really hard today but I've been good.
B. Managed to fast till 2pm
L. Celery, pate and jalepenos and bulletproof coffee
D. Chicken in nando's sauce dinner
Snack - more celery and pate

Laska2Meryls · 09/01/2021 09:14

Good news on the scales this morning having dropped some one day, put it back the next and stayed at higher weight all the restof this week (been following woe religiously).. This morning? Whoosh !3.5lbs down!!
I know this often happens to me on LC
so just kept Koko .. So dont be daunted those who are not seeing a loss , this is how it sometimes goes..

BrassicaBabe · 09/01/2021 10:43

Pinched a few left over chips last night. 1lb on 🤦🏻‍♀️

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 09/01/2021 10:48

So, I finally braved the scales - 10 stone 13.5 lbs, which is up 4.5 lbs on where I finished last bootcamp. That's given me a proper kick up the backside this morning. Although I was back on the low carb I wasn't as strict as during BC so I now have to be super careful not to undo all my work.
