Week 5 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half

Morning all Flowers

This week sees the end of the first half of Bootcamp. The last two weeks may have been tough going, as you might have seen weight loss slow or even stop.

But this has been an important transition period, as your body has been switching from burning carbs for fuel, to burning fat. So from now on, the weight loss you will see will be entirely fat. And hopefully from week 5, you should see the scales showing a weekly loss too!

By now, hopefully, you have also have become a bit more accustomed to low carb eating, so that it's becoming a bit more of a habit. Once things are habitual, it's a lot easier to stick with things, as they're more routine.

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for this week's 'confession'!

Just half a pound off for me today; I was hoping for a bit more with it only being my week 2. I am going to stick to full bootcamp, as I don't really mind it, but I will be intermittent fasting aiming for 18:6.

I'm doing half a stone overall though and I can see a difference in my progress pictures. I've got three more weeks of maternity leave Confused so I want to be really embedded by then.

DiscontentedWoman · 09/11/2020 13:21

Aww thread baby! Well done @PurBal Grin

Oneborneverydecade · 09/11/2020 13:50

I gained 1lb this week (wk 16 or thereabouts) which is disappointing. I wasn't perfect - the worst was 2 small sponge cakes after baking - but I also did 2 days of omad. I wonder if part of the problem is that DD was poorly for 4/5 days and so I was mostly static, cuddling her.
Here's my lunch, followed by some more gammon and it's steak and veg for tea.
Well done everyone on your loses, very impressive for week 4!!!

2.2lbs down! Delighted after my prosecco pig out! It's made me very determined, that's 10.2lbs in 3 weeks and I'm back to my pre-lockdown weight. Need to set some goals today.
Well done on all the losses and Flowers to anyone struggling

EarlGreyHot · 09/11/2020 13:55

Hadn't read the thread, congratulations PurBal!

NotwatchingSpooks · 09/11/2020 14:46

Congratulations purbal

I stayed the same, which I’m hopeful is just week 4, I’m going to koko and hope for a shift on the scales soon

Today
B Greek yogurt, Tsp double cream, coffee with double cream
L cauliflower cheese, 2 rolitos, slice of roast beef
D roast beef, celaric and swede mash, Leftover roasted green beans, leeks and left over cauliflower Mash Mashed together to make a kind of bubble & squeak, shoggled Brussels sprouts

Lots and lots of water

BurningGubbins · 09/11/2020 15:09

Hello all, and congrats to Purbal! How exciting!

Well done on all the losses. I pretty much lost what I put on over Halloween, save for a mysterious 0.4lb which appeared overnight. I did quite a lot of strenuous walking this weekend so perhaps it’s water in the muscles. Last time I had a cheat meal it took a couple of weeks to get back into decent regular weight loss.

Duck leg for dinner tonight, and had an amazing lunch of leftover sausage and bacon, leek, spring greens and a couple of cherry tomatoes, topped with an egg. Working from an office will be most disappointing on the lunch front when it comes back!

ponygirlcurtis · 09/11/2020 15:36

Congratulations Purbal!

I am a week behind you all so just finished week 3. Today my weight is up a half pound (it's also been down a half pound through the week). I have done absolutely nowt to warrant a gain so I am putting it down to week 3 and impending period (due in 2 days), as I do feel quite bloaty despite drinking all my water. So I shall keep on. I had better have a whoosh soon!

Redsparklybucket · 09/11/2020 16:38

I’m sure I’ve missed the recipe, but how are you all making cheese sauce for cauliflower cheese etc?

LazydaysofSummer · 09/11/2020 17:25

@Redsparklybucket It's as simple as heat up double cream, add cheese! It's as lush and indulgent as it sounds!

Rayna37 · 09/11/2020 17:46

I often use creme fraiche or cheap soft cheese (like own brand philly) for the sauce, dollop of wholegrain mustard too along with tons of cheese. The secret is to steam the stalks/greens separately from the florets then whizz these into the sauce for added bulk and goodness.

300ml tub double cream as much grated mature cheddar as you like/to taste - probably at least 150-200g

Heat the cream till it starts to simmer then chuck in the cheese; stir and let it melt. Season to taste with black pepper and the juice of half a lemon.

Pour this over your cooked cauliflower, in an oven dish, and bake in a hot oven till it starts to brown on the top. You can also sprinkle more grated cheese on the top if you like, which will go nice and brown and crispy.

I lost 2lbs this week. So I'm pretty pleased with that Grin

Congratulations purbal 🎉

Well done to everyone who has lost this week, or stayed the same.

I'm feeling pretty good with myself as dh and dd are currently eating takeaway pizza, and I managed to order and collect that without getting any for myself or "helping" dd with hers. I'll make mushroom, pepper and bacon omelette in a bit.

Redsparklybucket · 09/11/2020 18:05

Thank you! It sounds lush! I will make some this week!

MumPo71 · 09/11/2020 18:07

I'm trying Low Carb but all on my own! Didn't know there was a group! CAN I ask how many carbs you aim for a day? I'm trying to reduce my blood sugars. Thanks!

BIWI · 09/11/2020 18:08

We don't count carbs (or calories) on Bootcamp.

Have a look at Bootcamp rules - which are on the spreadsheet, which is linked to in my OP.

And welcome!

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/11/2020 18:16

mumpo I'm trying to reduce my blood sugars too. I'm going for a blood test tomorrow, so should hopefully be able to tell you what effect bootcamp has had later in the week.
I really like that we don't count anything. I can't cope with counting food related stuff as well as carrying on with work and family, etc. Bootcamp is relatively easy in that regard.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 09/11/2020 18:21

Congratulations @PurBal!!

Only 0.6lb loss for me this week ☹ Thought I had been good 🤷‍♀️ Got drunk on friday night, didnt take much Blush But I made (keto) indian buttered chicken which filled me up so i wasnt tempted to cheat. Other than that i was really good. One day i dont think I drank enough water.

So frustrating, I'm so close to the 13st's. Haven't been there since before both DC!

On a good note though, so wont complain too much I had to buy a new belt, smaller of course! And i replaced a beloved shirt I killed with my iron... previously XL... now a size M 😱Grin

Well done every one, another week down!

ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh · 09/11/2020 18:28

Congratulations @PurBal !!

AWryGiraffe · 09/11/2020 18:34

I made the cheeseburger pie with veggie mince... I won't bother again! I think veggie mince really needs a tomato sauce, I added and reduced 200ml of stock to keep some moisture and flavour but it was still a bit of a nothing. The top of the pie was really nice though so I may use this but on top of a veggie cheesy creamy leeky type filling instead.

HerdyGerdy · 09/11/2020 18:51

A thread baby 🥰 congratulations!

A rather miserable weigh in this week - stayed the same. It’s week three for me but I haven’t lost since week one. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but clearly something 😭. Upping my veg this evening in the hope it helps.

ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh · 09/11/2020 19:17

Oh wow! I've just got into a new pair of black trousers for work that I deliberately bought 2 sizes smaller (do have to breathe in slightly but they close Grin) and am definitely seeing progress to fit into 2 lovely pairs of next trousers!

ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh · 09/11/2020 19:18

@HerdyGerdy why don't you post your food so that people can give some advice?

EarlGreyHot · 09/11/2020 19:28

Grin at carb wanker

ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh fab NSV!
I've done similar and have bought a pair of trousers for Christmas Day in the next size down. My reward and motivation for staying the course!

Sorry to hear things aren't going your way. List out for me what you've been eating and drinking over the last fe days and let me see if there's anything I can help you with.
