Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

  • you don't have to have three meals a day
  • you can have some fruit (berries)
  • you can have some nuts/seeds
  • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

That recipe looks fantastic. Somehow, when we were having our new kitchen fitted, I managed to lose my spiralizer. I'd never used it![/quote]
Yes, it's really delicious, I've passed the recipe on to lots of people and they all love it. And you can vary it quite a bit too.

My spiraliser isn't fancy it's just like a big pencil sharpener, with 2 ends to do thinner and fatter 'noodles'. And best of all it takes up no room. It's a bit manual but fine for the amount I need it for.

@Anotherducker

Thanks *@BIWI* I’ve eaten two massive leeks this week. It was on a google, must be wrong thank goodness.
I always use Sainsbury's website - go to their groceries, enter the food you're interested in, click on it and scroll down and you'll see the nutritional information

BIWI oops 😬 re toffee

DH just made a delicious seafood pasta with mussels and prawns, which I had on buttery leeks - so was relieved to hear they’re aren’t too carby after all. I’d far rather eat them than pasta anyway, they actually have flavour!

ToastCosILoveIt · 31/10/2020 19:12

Thank you @Lurknolinger.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 31/10/2020 19:42

@Lyrata

I would like to do a really indulgent meal tomorrow, to cheer myself up. I’m thinking about coq au vin or roasted pork or some sort of slow cooked duck or lamb.

I made a low carb version of Coq au vin, it was amazing, just like the normal recipe.

That's the same one I have, itsgreat isn't it! Took me a few attempts before realising it works better if you dont cut the end off the veg Blush

Well I did it!!! I got back down to 14st 4lbs today, the weight I reached last week before my 2 cheat days ruined it! BIG lesson learned!

I am having a drink with DP tonight, but this time I'm making a nice steak dinner to fill me up so I'm not tempted to order takeaway. I wouldn't anyway, that 6lb gain last week has put me right off takeaway!

B. Fasted
L. Fried egg on toast (seriously low carb bread of course!)
D. Going to cook sirloin with mushrooms, tomatoe, asparagus, cauli mash and peppercorn sauce.

I have drunk most of my water for today, kids just gone to sleep so switching to alcohol Grin

Happy Fiday Night Everyone!!

Dirty skinny cheeseburger pie. The perspective makes it look like it's all salad and no pie... (honestly BIWI put the stick away!). I feel so content.

Lyrata · 31/10/2020 20:34

Ooh thanks BIWI and BuffyTheBuffetSlayer for the meal tips! I think I might do the coq au vin tomorrow - and maybe steak during the week. I wouldn’t normally buy fancy steak but there’s bloody nothing else to spend money on right now!

itsmeagainagain · 31/10/2020 20:41

hi everyone hope you're all having a good weekend. I had one little blip earlier when my kids had toad in the hole and didnt eat all of it and I ate a big corner oops...am kidding myself that it was mostly eggs in it but still a bit annoyed with myself. Absolutely lush dinner today of sea bass with asparagus, samphire, and a homemade pesto it was gorgeous!!!

Midlifemission · 31/10/2020 21:41

It's been a weird day here . Had the sense of impending doom about the announcement all day mixed up with my DC bouncing off the walls with Halloween excitement. We decorated the house for a School pumpkin trail and they went out to spot the pumpkins and collected sweets where they had been left out - not in any way normal but lovely all the same. Not tempted by Haribo !!
I had a proper covid wobble today but like PP have said ( sorry can't scroll back at the minute to name check) I feel we have a choice now to use this weird time to lose weight not gain.
Having said that we haven't yet had dinner due to all the DC stuff so that's not ideal but DH is cooking steak with giant mushrooms and spinach .
I am also marking the last night of October with a gin and tonic - I have done Sober October but decided to break it tonight instead of a Sunday .

NigellaAwesome · 31/10/2020 22:00

@GorgeousGoldies I find that kefir water really helps to keep things regular.

I'm over my D&V thank goodness, and Dd was also up with it in the middle of the night, so it seems like it is a viral thing, although who knows how on earth we picked anything up? Covid test was negative.

I lost 1.4kg overnight! Still tender today, so didn't eat anything today until dinner.

Commiserations on the lockdown news. We have had 2 weeks so far in NI, and at least another 2 weeks to go.

GorgeousGoldies · 31/10/2020 22:36

Thanks Nigella - I see you’ve had the opposite problem, glad you’re feeling a bit better now 😊

Rayna37 · 01/11/2020 03:56

Steak, garlicky green beans with mushrooms and shallots was great tonight. Bit too much Rioja hence awake now No fancy meal out for DH's big birthday next weekend but we've booked a last hurrah meal early evening on Weds at a local pub.

Going to miss swimming three times a week; yoga won't really fill that hole.

Made the Christmas cake today, had a little lick of the spoon.

Lyrata · 01/11/2020 08:05

This isn’t really week three for me as I started low carb light a month or so before Bootcamp - but I am pleased to report that I’ve lost 2 3/4 pounds this week. I’m now 10 stone 5 3/4.

I’ve stayed pretty much on full Bootcamp this week (minus two medium glasses of red wine one evening and a bit of almond meal another night) so perhaps that helped.

I’m excited for my coq au vin tonight (which will leave me with a little more wine to dispose of). Other than that, I have my standard coffee for breakfast and peppers + cottage cheese for lunch.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 01/11/2020 08:12

Lost and put on the same pound over the last few days. I think it's down to alcohol. DH bought a lovely bottle of red despite me saying I didn't want to drink anymore so I had a couple of glasses. Am going back to no alcohol now because as much as I love the taste, it gives me a headache.
Food yesterday was 2 sausages for breakfast, lunch was a handful of almonds, berries and creme fraiche (sp?). Dinner was pork and green veg fried in butter with caraway seeds. Had the 2 glasses of wine and a piece of chocolate.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/11/2020 08:50

So have completed my two day fat fast and am now the lightest weight I’ve been this year; 10
stone 11 at 5 ft 7. So I’m doing okay but I’d like to lose another 7lb if possible.

My plan is to do a 5:2 style approach I think where I do two fat fasts a week and the other days I eat two meals. A bulletproof coffee in the morning is working really well for me and I can now easily fast until 1pm without clock watching.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/11/2020 08:52

I’m also going to sign up for Les Mills on demand. I was waivering about rejoining the gym
but suspected they might be forced to close again. So the recent press conference has solidified how pointless it is to expect any leisure activities to be able to stay open properly for the foreseeable so I’m just going to commit to exercising at home.

prettyscarybird · 01/11/2020 08:56

I tried weighing myself this morning and got drastically different weights according to the position I put the scales Hmm - between 11st 5lb (Grin) and 12st 4lb Shock I nearly went and tried on a nice solid piece of hardwood in the hall - and then I remembered that the carpet (with a good thick underlay) would be going down again today.

Until the bathroom gets redone and tiled (hopefully before next Christmas) I'll maybe need to find a spot in the kitchen - I know it had MDF put down, and thoroughly nailed in before the Lino went down (in fact they ended up putting the piping through the wall from the hall cupboard so as not to have to try to lift it).

For the moment, I'll have to go by my belt and black trousers as indications of progress. Smile

Totalshambles · 01/11/2020 08:56

Not been on for a while - kids half term etc, will catch up later. Stepped on scales early and was gutted to see one pound up!! Been very good the only thing I have had different to weeks 1 and 2 has been 5 raspberries on two occasions, couple of glasses of Prosecco and a very small chia pudding I made with some 2 tsp chia, soya milk, cream, one tsp of cocoa powder and one of peanut butter. That’s been the only difference. Not even been near the kids Halloween stash! But I did know week 3 was a tricky one. Hoping it’s off for weigh in day tomorrow and that week 4 is a more rewarding one!

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 01/11/2020 09:06

I was really good last night. I had my steak dinner, so never got the urge to order takeaway after a few Jim Beams. I did at one point tip out the Quality Street sweets onto my lap and smelled the inside of the bag Blush Then I put ALL the sweets back and put the bag away! So proud of myself.

Anyway, weighed myself this morning to see what the damage was after a night of alcohol and I am another lb down!!! I'm now the lightest I have been for years. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in now.

Meal plan for today is a bit sketchy, I'm still a bit hung over.

B. Nothing as usual, fasting
L. Probably fried bacon and egg on toast
D. Possibly mackerel salad but will probably change my mind later.

Lots and lots and lots of WATER

plumstone · 01/11/2020 09:44

Morning all!!! At airport! Have bought three bottle of water and all the snack babybels I could find in boots!! Will have to do me till I get to the hotel! Had to provide my negative test certificate at checkin, which takes forever now!! Oh well on the bright side a nice hotel for a couple of weeks! Could someone mark me as 12st dead on the spreadsheet! All the running about yesterday meant little food and 4 liters of water!!!

Today:
Breakfast: last of the salmon before I left the house, bacon out a bacon roll and a plain Greek yougurt at the airport - made the judgement call that although I have no idea I’d it’s low fat or not, thought better to eat this than buy crap on way to gate!!
L - on plane - all the baby bel
D - hopefully there will be a steak on the menu at the hotel and I can have that and a green salad!

Have a great week, will try and catch up when I can!!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 01/11/2020 10:24

Sneaks into thread to ask: Hi all! Did I imagine that there exists somewhere here a recipe for a low carb cauliflower cheese, and if so can someone point me in the right direction for it please?

EarlGreyHaunt · 01/11/2020 10:27

Flowers to everyone feeling crap at the prospect of lockdown. Like another PP I'm in NI so already 2 weeks into 4 week lockdown lite.

Feeling pleased this morning that I didn't succumb to any of the Halloween sweets and nibbles that we laid on in an attempt to distract the kids. I had two glass of red wine, all the cocktail sausages and chicken wings and some nice cheese on lc toast.

KOKO everyone!

20bloodypumpkins · 01/11/2020 10:47

Currently out for a wild and windy walk. Just catching up on here while dh is spotting little brown birds... Only had herbal tea so far this morning.

Lunch will be creamy, greeny soup then cheese and celery, no biscuits. And I think dinner will be that lovely Asian cucumber and carrot recipe that someone posted yesterday. Thank you! Going to have it with either chicken or salmon.

I am so inspired by the meal ideas and recipes on here.

WitchWand · 01/11/2020 10:51

Really lovely to read everyone. I'm not able to write as often as I read. There's often so much for me to catch up on. Grin

I've caught up now. Smile

So, here. It's feeling really weird for me because I seem to have lost much of my appetite. I'm incredibly thirsty and drinking loads but I just don't seem to be feeling very hungry. It's strange to be honest.

I'm ending week 2 and hoping to have shifted a bit more weight for tomorrow's check in. Especially as I'm reading that week 3 and 4 will probably mean that I'll stall.

Wishing everyone well for this Sunday.
Don't know why the weekend is feeling harder for me to stay on track than during the week. I'm including myself in the well-wishing . Grin
