Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

 • you don't have to have three meals a day
 • you can have some fruit (berries)
 • you can have some nuts/seeds
 • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

@NorthOfAmazing

why not try these?

They're great - you'd never know they aren't 'proper' bread. A real game-changer.

@20bloodypumpkins

What does this mean:

the famous cheeseburger pie (I've been dying to try this) but a dirty skinny version (ala All Bar One)

Skinny?! I hope that doesn't mean you're trying to make it low fat?!

@Lurknolinger

That recipe looks fantastic. Somehow, when we were having our new kitchen fitted, I managed to lose my spiralizer. I'd never used it!

Finding it hard to feel positive today. That being said, thanks to low carb I am now a healthy BMI (around 23.7) and I wasn’t earlier this year. So I’m at less risk from Covid than I was thanks to this WOE.

Still feel mega grumpy today, though. Procrastinating doing anything until this 4pm announcement - just idly browsing Christmas presents.

I have done a big shop though. I have some nice burgers and some gherkins for that proper feel - and some more cauliflower and kale.

I would like to do a really indulgent meal tomorrow, to cheer myself up. I’m thinking about coq au vin or roasted pork or some sort of slow cooked duck or lamb. Any ideas for total push-the-boat out low carb comfort food?

Oh heck. How bad are leeks? It said 14g per 100g or 8g if boiled.

BIWI · 31/10/2020 14:42

@GorgeousGoldies

When you say you're suffering from constipation, do you mean you're in pain and struggling to go, or just going less frequently? If it's the latter, then technically that isn't constipation.

If the former - drink more water and up your fats. Other things that can help:

 • a high strength vitamin C tablet
 • strong, black coffee
 • exercise
 • massaging your stomach:

Use your fingertips, knuckles, or the heel of your hand to stroke or apply pressure to your belly. Massage in the horseshoe shape of your colon. Start in the lower right corner of your abdominals and move up. Then massage under the ribs and over to the left, then down the left side, and then into the centre. (from www.healthline.com)

 • chia or flax seeds, added to yoghurt

If you're really in extremis, there's always this Grin

Where did it say that?! According to Sainsbury's website, 100g of leeks only has 2.8g carbs.

When I was a child I would come home from school and graze the baking cupboards until my Mum came home from work. Angel delight was one of my favourites, also glace cherries, treacle or golden syrup a tablespoon at a time straight from the tin, raw jelly cubes (a whole jelly), chocolate hazelnut spread from the jar. If I was feeling creative I'd make peppermint creams, toffee or tablet (recipes from sweet making for children) and I'd finish the lot.

Because I was eating them a bit at a time I thought it wouldn't be noticed. But of course my Mum did clock that a whole tin of syrup was finished in a week etc. etc. I ended up spending my pocket money, or my school dinner money on replacement jelly or angel delight!

Hi everyone,

I'm up 1lbs this week so far, and honestly think I've eaten well overall, but I know it's week 3 and I've been slack on the water, so going to KOKO. Nervous for this afternoon's announcement but I'm determined not to put on 4-5kg like I did last lockdown and lose 4-5kg instead!

I now have the guts of two carved Halloween pumpkins. I checked and it's only 4g/100 so does anyone have any ideas what to do with them? @prettybird am I right that you made a soup you weren't wild about ? Any tips?

Sorry you're feeling down - but really well done on being a healthy BMI now! Flowers

Treating yourself with low carb comfort food is a great idea, especially as the weather is so shit.

How about a fillet steak, in a creamy mushroom sauce, with celeriac chips and buttery spinach with garlic?

Or slow roasted belly pork, with crackling, and creamy celeriac or cauliflower mash with roasted broccoli and shallots?

... or why not browse the low carb dessert thread for a treat?

@BIWI not low fat Grin It's the All Bar One description - 'dirty' because it's got pancetta and some smelly cheese, and 'skinny because it replaces the bun and fries with avocado and salad.

Mimosa1 - it wasn't me that made the pumpkin soup recently. You're right though, someone did and was unenthusiastically eating their way through a big batch.

I did make some last year from my Halloween pumpkin - I liked it but dh didn't. I think the key is spicing it up, whether with cumin and/or coriander and/or chilis. I like to serve it with a swirl of extra virgin olive oil, which help add to the fat content.

20bloodypumpkins · 31/10/2020 15:26

I've made this Delia recipe for pumpkin soup with cheese. It was very velvety and creamy. Better to swap the onion for shallots and the milk for cream and water, or maybe almond milk?

GorgeousGoldies · 31/10/2020 15:42

@BIWI Thanks for your reply.

I’m just not going at all Blush so I’ll definitely give your recommendations a try...possibly apart from the sugar free gummy bears (although tempted), but the reviews have cheered me up no end thanks 😂

prettyscarybird · 31/10/2020 15:50

My weight this morning was 12st dead on the "new" bathroom floor, so pretty close to the 11st 13.75lb yesterday. Plus the fact that I'd not "been" for 3 days Blush (not constipated, just hadn't needed to) would have accounted for a small daily variation Grin

Let's just say, if I'd weighed myself half an hour later, I'd have been under 12st WinkBlushGrin

Non scale victory today. Found a lovely pair of LEVIs skinny jeans size 10, and they only fit!!!!!! I’m over the moon 💃

@GorgeousGoldies I didn't know about the laxative effects of polyols, until after (i.e. too late!) I'd eaten almost a whole back of Thornton's Diabetic Toffee. (They don't make it any more). I strained a muscle in my stomach from going to the loo so much Blush

Used to be a 14/16, so I size 10 feels crazy good 😍

Takingontheundead · 31/10/2020 16:22
@Takingontheundead you haven't updated the spreadsheet this week - are you still making good progress?

And don't worry - unless you've chucked a whole bunch of carrots into the stew, that should be fine!
I think I've lost track of where I am
I seem to be lingering at 13st after briefly seeing 12.13(.5!) I'm just stagnating again.

Today I've had salad with bacon and avo, and then for tea I've had beef strew with a chunk of cheese for dipping because my beef stew was tasteless shite. 🤣😭🤣😭

We're heading to next door for a halloween tea with the kids and so I've eaten stew in hopes I'll be able to resist their buffet.

I'm quite low today tbh. This next stone seems impossible (i know, dramatics) and along with so much stress and tiredness in the mix it's getting me down tbh. I could have done with some weight loss rewards for my dedication to keep me motivated!

Anotherducker · 31/10/2020 16:27

Thanks @BIWI I’ve eaten two massive leeks this week. It was on a google, must be wrong thank goodness.
