Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

BIWI · 26/10/2020 08:57

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

  • you don't have to have three meals a day
  • you can have some fruit (berries)
  • you can have some nuts/seeds
  • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

Ahh thank you everyone!

Diet tonic it is!! We're in tier 3, so no pub unfortunately. Have planned a lovely meal though, chicken and lamb kebabs with lots of salad and low carb chocolate cake (with whipped double cream) Grin

I have bought lots of chocolate to leave out for any little ones, just have to resist the urge! But I have my cake, there will be many more birthdays 🎂

Enjoy your day all Gin

Morning All - feeling so much better after a glass of red wine, a bath and a good nights sleep!!!

Will go with the large breakfast of salmon eggs and caviar and then try and go 12 hours till dinner and then essentially intermittent fast and just eat every 12 hours - it’s for 2 weeks and will be fine!

Can’t remember who asked but as everyone who travels for work will say it’s not glamorous but you have to do it to know that! I have. Friends who are SAHP think it’s amazing and glam - they don’t believe me when I say it’s just the job, but I love it and get a massive surge of excitement every time I get on a plane! It’s not outing but I’m a PA to a CEO - been with him for 71/2 years - I love it, but I love to arrange and organize people so I spend my time like a coiled spring waiting for shit to go wrong - problems fixed include: lost laptop between Plane and hotel in Moscow, need presentation - only copy of which is on said laptop. My cats limping what’s wrong with it, I’ve lost my wife’s and daughters passports (7pm on a Friday night) they were going to Paris the next day for daughter birthday. His colleague texts me at 7am saying they have lost their passport and handbag overnight and we are all on a plane at 6pm it’s essentially just fixing stuff!

I’ll weigh in tomorrow before leaving - if someone could add that the the spreadsheet I’ll aim to stay at that figure for two weeks!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cross posts!

One day's meal:

B Cheese and spinach omelette
L Salad leaves with half and avocado and almonds
T roast cauliflower, baked eggs with cheese on top (not much)
Greek yoghurt with nuts
Snack - home made chocolate brownie

Ignoring the brownie (!), there is a lot of cheese/dairy here, as well as nuts. Are you a vegetarian? Because there also isn't much protein going on.

How about fat? Did you have an oily dressing on your salad, and/or mayo? Were you roasting your cauliflower in plenty of oil?

Drinking water

Yeah - but how much?!

Let me see another couple of days' menus as well.[/quote]
Thank you. I am veggie and my diet doesn’t vary much other than adding in mushrooms and tofu. I thought I would be good for protein from those meals - maybe need more tofu. I managed about a litre and a half of water and am pretty active. Will just keep on keeping on!

Anotherducker · 31/10/2020 10:08

@plumstone your boss sounds like a child!

plumstone · 31/10/2020 10:20

@Anotherducker - i often describe it as: Psychologist/reader of minds/nanny and general checker of everything! He says his talent was having one good idea 20 years ago and then the ability to hire lots of people that are better than him to implement it!!

Anotherducker · 31/10/2020 10:27

Out of interest how did you solve all the lost passport problem?

And what was wrong with the cat?

Takingontheundead · 31/10/2020 10:52

Morning guys.

I've done a food shop and I'm ready to go.

I'm going to really up my veg intake as i feel I've been a bit stuck with just kale for a while and try and stick to 2 proper meals a day as I was often only getting time for one (very good) meal.

Also i think I need to lay off the scales for a while. Daily weighing generally helps me but I've just been very frustrated of late.

I appreciate I've lost a lot so perhaps it'll be harder now, but I still have lots to lose so hoping its not too hard Sad

Still nursing a gurgly tum from yesterday currently!

justanotherneighinparadise · 31/10/2020 11:37

So I’m down 0.4lbs this morning lol. I’ll take it though as i stalled for a good month, then put on 4lb, then lost that 4lb plus 0.4lb!!! Now I’m sitting in the car in the rain trying to go browse some shops but wondering why the hell ive bothered 🙄

DiscontentedWoman · 31/10/2020 12:22

I'm not up to date but a quick pop by to post this steak with labneh and pul biber butter by Sabrina Ghayour - just watched her make it on the telly and it looked divine

plumstone · 31/10/2020 12:23

@Anotherducker - The cat was clearly not happy - I called the vet, took it to the vet, vet diagnosed a broken leg, so I then drove it to the Cat hospital, where leg was pinned, and the next day drove back to collect the cat - took cat home to recover - cat is now fine.

Passports - After checking with the two shops he was in and confirming that he did not have his bag with him - Both shops were very helpful and let showed me their CCTV. He then said that he had gone to the shops by taxi, I then hailed a black cab and asked the driver what he would do if someone left something in his cab after getting out ? He said he would take it to the nearest police station to where he was when he realised it was in the cab - Google maps later and there are 4 fairly near by, started calling them and established it was at Shepherd's bush - text boss he collects bag and passports goes home - all good!!

2nd passport - I was with said colleague the evening before, and knew she had her bag when we got to the restaurant, as paid for the taxi and I saw her put her purse back in it. Waited till 12pm when restaurant opened, went back and asked if I could check the cloakroom, (never trust anyone to check anything) sure enough there was her bag, and passport inside. Collected it and took it back to her! On the off chance it wasn't, I had a call into the British embassy, and had an appointment, to go with a pdf of her passport (i always have pdfs of passports of whoever I travel with) they would then register it lost, cancel it, and then provide exit documents so she could make her flight. She would be able to get a new one when back in London. I cancelled this once I didn't need it.

Everyone needs a @plumstone!

NorthOfAmazing · 31/10/2020 12:30

Soooo I’ve finally got all my ingredients to experiment with some low carb baking .... thought a bacon sandwich would be a good place to start Grin

These were sliders-size but even then I couldn’t finish two. Very dense with seeds and a weird garlic aftertaste - the search continues !

I liked the idea of doing boot camp lite at the weekends , would an apple be pushing it ? I really miss fruit but berries don’t always cut it texture wise.

Happy birthday Zigg Flowers

Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?
20bloodypumpkins · 31/10/2020 12:33

I'm flitting in and out of troughs of mood at least it's not troughs of food as I try to work out what I can and can't do in relation to current coronavirus restrictions. This weekend I could see my dd and dgc outside, but it is shite weather. No restaurants open, and no cafes that are bookable, and it is NOT the weather for queueing outside. Next week there are places open for lunch, but we live in different counties (although only 4 miles apart) so not able to meet unless I cycle in the shit weather! Looks like it is going to be this way for many, many months to come.

But... I can be in control of what I put in my mouth and I am determined to lose the vast majority of the 20 bloody pounds I've put on since March. Then when we do start to emerge from all of this, I will be feeling great.

B - creamy coffee
L - mushroom and broccoli omlettte
D - the famous cheeseburger pie (I've been dying to try this) but a dirty skinny version (ala All Bar One) with crispy pancetta, salad and slaw, and smashed avocado

lurknolinger · 31/10/2020 12:51

Just want to share my lunch recipe I found online with you.
It's a salad loosely based on Pad Thai.

www.thelondoner.me/2015/01/pad-thai-salad-low-carb.html

The recipe uses spirallised cucumber and carrot, but I replace the cucumber with courgette and cut back on the carrot. If you don't have a spiralliser a normal veg peeler would do to make ribbons instead.
If you don't have peanuts then a tablespoon of peanut butter added to the dressing works well. I make double the amount of dressing and keep it in a jar in the fridge so it's there when I want it.
It's my favourite lunch at the moment as I love the warmth from the spices and the various textures. It's good with any leftover cold meats as well as prawns and I imagine tofu etc.

20bloodypumpkins · 31/10/2020 12:51

That steak and labneh dish looks delicious. Definitely on the menu for next week - if I can find the recipe link by then!

An addition to LittleHowl's multiple weighing points and mini-goals - when it seems like I'm losing weight very slowly, or if I'm fluctuating up and down, I sometimes get on the scales with all my clothes on. Then I look back at my (almost naked, early morning) weight from 3 or 4 weeks ago. It feels so reassuring to see that today, even fully dressed and wearing a big jumper, I am still lighter than I was at the start of bootcamp. It helps me focus on the long-term and irrefutable progress rather than the half pound up or quarter pound down.

Takingontheundead · 31/10/2020 13:04

Bacon and avo salad, got a beef stew on- i suspect it'll be carby actually as it has shallots, purple carrots, swede & leeks in it, made with 60ml Guinness and a beef stock (2g carbs)

I'm resisting the urge to use MFP to check tho. I need to just focus on good food and how i feel for a bit I think.

Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?
ToastCosILoveIt · 31/10/2020 13:45

@Lurknolinger, that salad looks devine. Do you make it fresh each time or would it keep for 24 hours?

GorgeousGoldies · 31/10/2020 13:46

Still hanging in there, loving reading about everyone’s lives! Really relate to those who used to sneak sweet food as a child - I was terrible for this, would eat literally anything I could find when my parents were out. DM refused to have any treats in the house, so I gorged myself given the opportunity. I’ve tried to be the opposite with my DC and allow free access to biscuits etc, in the hope that they would self-regulate. That tactic hasn’t worked either though - they’re as bad as me!

I had a lovely meal out last night - duck with puréed celeriac and shiitake mushrooms, it was delicious. Plus a great cheeseboard afterwards.

I’ve managed to shift the Cornwall weight and a couple more pounds, but am feeling very down about being in tier 3, plus whatever is coming later today. Trying v hard not to comfort eat.

Final thing, (TMI) although I’m eating loads of vegetables, I’m very constipated and having to use laxatives once a week. Not ideal! Any advice of things I could introduce into my diet to help?

Too feckin’ right! Damn, girl... Wine Wine Wine
Anotherducker · 31/10/2020 14:09

Just checking in instead of falling into the treats at my house. Today’s depressing news would normally mean eating a load of rubbish, but I’m standing firm!

lurknolinger · 31/10/2020 14:20

@ToastCosILoveIt I've always made it just before eating it. If you tried making it the day before I wouldn't add the dressing that far in advance as I think the veg would wilt and the dressing would become watery. But as I said, I've not tried it so I'm not sure, worth a try I think.

BIWI · 31/10/2020 14:25

@plumstone

International travel is not glamorous! I've been to all manner of places, and have rarely had time to see any of them, never mind enjoy them. Also, because I was always on my own, I used to end up in quite a strange mindset, often feeling quite low, and that does paint how you see/feel about a place. I'd happily never go to Moscow, Porto, Warsaw or Krakow again, no matter how much people rave about them!

My best trips were to Australia though - because it's so far away and with such a different time zone that you have to add time on before and after, which meant I did get time to do a bit of sight-seeing, and also to catch up (albeit very briefly) with friends and family over there.

My most frustrating was to Vietnam - arrived at 9pm (so it was dark - it was January), taxi to hotel. Up at 8 for the work next day, in a facility directly across the road from the hotel. Worked there till 7, then came back. On my own, to room service dinner. As I was the client on that occasion, I was taken out for dinner the next night - to a fast food Vietnamese restaurant - a bit like being taken to a McDonalds! Third day was the same as the first, then had to hang around for various pieces of data from the company I was working with - expected in the morning, not delivered until the afternoon, leaving me no time to go anywhere other than back to the airport! Still, it was warm, and I did spend a couple of hours each evening drinking G&Ts by the rooftop pool.

@potas

I managed about a litre and a half of water

You should be drinking at least 2 litres of water. And definitely see if you can add more protein.

BIWI · 31/10/2020 14:28

@Takingontheundead you haven't updated the spreadsheet this week - are you still making good progress?

And don't worry - unless you've chucked a whole bunch of carrots into the stew, that should be fine!
