Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - 'full' or light?

BIWI · 26/10/2020 08:57

Morning all!

Here's The Spreadsheet as per

Hopefully you've had a good second week, and have settled down into Bootcamp ways by now, and any trace of carb flu is but a distant memory.

By now, if not already, you should be well into the switch from burning carbs to burning fat. You should be finding it much easier to go between meals without snacking, and should find your energy levels picking up, maybe even feeling like you've got more energy than you had before.

So as we start week 3, you have a choice: you can continue on Bootcamp if it's suiting you, or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means:

  • you don't have to have three meals a day
  • you can have some fruit (berries)
  • you can have some nuts/seeds
  • you can drink some alcohol

Please not the use of the word some! This isn't carte blanche for you to go mad. Just remember, all these things will add a lot of carbs quite quickly - so it's very much in moderation.

You also need to know/remember that week 3 (and 4) is infamous for being the point at which weight loss slows - sometimes even stops - so this is another good reason to go easy when you relax things

A good compromise is to stay strictly Bootcamp during the week but Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you choose, hope the results this morning are positive, and wishing us all good luck for the week ahead.

Some good results already - and I see @TotalShambles that you were worrying for no reason!

Morning. 4.2lb loss for me (which I’ll add to the spreadsheet when I’ve got my laptop in front of me). Good luck everyone weighing in today!

Rayna37 · 26/10/2020 09:08

132.2 so another lb off, 5 and half so far with 4 to go. Can't believe how much less hungry I am most of the time.

BC "lightish" for me. I can live without fruit and will try to keep wine to the weekend. However I have a pot of nuts in my drawer should I genuinely get hungry and I will have a tsp of almond butter in my yogurt some days.

Burnshersmurfs I'm the Zero app fan; it just draws a line at the end of the day and stops you picking. Brilliant!

Today's plan - ordinary but nice:
B: 2 scrambled eggs
L: mackerel in oil with a "sauce" of creme fraiche and wholegrain mustard, on spinach/tomato/cucumber salad, plus yogurt as above.
D: courgetti bolognese.

LazydaysofSummer · 26/10/2020 09:08

A couple more pounds down, which makes nearly half a stone so far which I'm chuffed with. But for me, the weight wasn't as important as my size, I'd only put on four pounds in lockdown but due to age and time of life that had equated to at least four inches on my waist! Happy to report I've already shed three of those, and whilst weight loss can slow/stall weeks 3 and 4 previously I still saw a change in shape for the better, so my advice would be to measure, then you can see NSV even if the weight doesn't move much.

Totalshambles · 26/10/2020 09:09

BIWi yes a happy surprise on the scales this morning. Seems like Monday is the day to weigh for me. Smile

Are we allowed small amounts of artificial sweetener now? Also the odd zero sugar fizzy drinks?

Well done everyone for sticking with it. I have done low carb before but never like this and I haven’t ever seen results like this so fast so I am finding that very motivating. Even (sort of) managing to enjoy not eating the cake/pudding/half term treat breakfasts that the kids and husband are having. Although am looking forward to a couple of chocolate covered hazelnuts this evening (just a few) and a g&t!

Rayna37 · 26/10/2020 09:11

Sorry 123.2 not 132.2! Logged in. Still plenty of wobble around the middle. There's a lift with a mirror in it from the pool to the changing rooms at my gym which is quite unreasonable.

Anotherducker · 26/10/2020 09:12

Thanks @BIWI

BIWI · 26/10/2020 09:14

Just be careful about introducing artificial sweeteners - the science on these is mixed, but there is some suggestion that the body can react to them as if they were sugar.

Well done everyone with the losses 👏🏻

I’m sticking with Bootcamp. I don’t trust myself with high carb food yet. It’s half term, it’s raining and a fall into the biscuit tin is a possibility.

prettybird · 26/10/2020 09:16

My preliminary look at the scales is looking good Smile - but I'll only weigh in officially after doing The Shred and having a movement Blush - in the hope I can lose another 3/4lb Wink

Shameless placemark Grin

itsmeagainagain · 26/10/2020 09:22

Some great losses!! I’ve lost 3lbs making it 6 so far we’ll chuffed with that 😊 hoping that next weeks weight starts with an 11! Half term this week so need to stick to my good habits and not get derailed by picnics or eating out. Have stocked up on lots of low carb choices so I’m well prepared! Have a good Monday everyone 😊

Summery1 · 26/10/2020 09:24

I weighed yesterday (after the loo Blush) so I'm using that number. 157lbs, which is 1.8lb this week.
This is where I ended last BootCamp so the Covid bulge is gone.
My next target is 11st (154lbs), and if I feel ok 150lbs. I was 150lbs a few years back after trekking in Asia, and clothes were so easy. Size 12 just fit.
Definitely definitely moving to BC lite, as I've attempted strict BC in the past & quit. This, for me, means nut butter for my yogurt and an odd square of 85% chocolate. I'll skip the alcohol and maybe the berries for another while.
I'm going to do the hamburger pie this week. Sounds lush.

Thanks everyone for posting recipes. I can get into a food rut, and therein lies failure. All the tips and the shared misery and joy are great.

To anyone who hasn't had the best start, climb back on! It's only week 3 of 10. You can start today.

Summery1 · 26/10/2020 09:26

@prettybird I'm on your page, re weighing and bathroom habits.
I might go dig out my Shred DVD actually. Thanks

fizzfridays · 26/10/2020 09:30

Morning all, some really great losses, well done everyone !

I'm down to 133.5 which I'm pleased with as I'm still swollen from surgery and haven't been moving. Last week was also my week 4 of low carbing so was expecting things to have stalled!

Plan today:
L: scrambled eggs, lc chipolatas, mushrooms.
D: celeriac chips, skin-on chicken breast, green beans, truffle mayo

Not much in the house today as food delivery due this evening. Looking forward to more veg arriving and a big pork joint.

Midlifemission · 26/10/2020 09:32

Morning all well done for the losses !

2lbs down for me which is 7lbs so have got to be happy with that !

Redsparklybucket · 26/10/2020 09:33

I have lost another 5lbs this week so that takes me to a stone! a flippin stone! in two weeks - I am not feeling hungry at all and have to remember to have something to eat! I am going to stay on full bootcamp this week - i might have a glass of wine on saturday!

Notwatchingtvtoday · 26/10/2020 09:34

Morning, Some great losses

I’m amazed to log another 3lbs off, so that’s 6lbs in total. I was worried that being out for lunch and dinner would derail me but it didn’t, which I think was because I thought about what I was going to eat beforehand, I’d really recommend asking for advice if your unsure. BIWI very kindly had a look at the menu which helped to steer me in the right direction.

I have done boot camp a couple of times, but this time I have really tried to embrace the fat, which has meant that I have not been hungry between meals, so it’s been much easier, so do listen to BIWI and All, I’ve tried to say to myself that you need fat to burn fat.
I’ve also tried to drink a lot of water and fruit teas.

The other thing that I think helped was that I got dinner ready earlier in the day, so that we ate between 6 and 7, so that I had less time to feel like snacking before dinner, had a bigger window of time between finishing dinner and having my breakfast and finally I kept a big soda stream bottle of water filled for me to make sure that I drank enough.

prettybird · 26/10/2020 09:37

Summery1 : It's the only day this week I'm going to be able to exercise - usually do it (or "Ripped in 30") 4 days a week - as tomorrow we're getting our central heating system replaced (boiler and all the radiators) so there won't be any room in which I can do it. Even my Pilates (Zoom) class tomorrow will be awkward - but I'm hoping that the living room will remain clear tomorrow morning. The bedroom, where I usually do it, also has the gas meter and the pipe up to the boiler, which might need to be upgraded.

MaudesMum · 26/10/2020 09:37

I fell off the wagon on Saturday night, in every respect, and as a result lost no weight overall. Luckily (?) I have absolutely no social activity for the next two weeks at least so it should be much easier to be sensible. Hopefully over that two weeks I'll learn from all of you great people about the best way of resisting temptation, including what to do when your guests turn up with espresso martinis, red wine and chocolate ice-cream. Full bootcamp for the week, definitely - and I've made some lovely brocolli and stilton soup to help me on the way!

Laska2Meryls · 26/10/2020 09:43

Im a sts but thats fine, its not weight on and Ive been doing this several months now.. BC light .. but I had too much wine last weekend.. its easy to do, so of you are going to BC light, beware!!

SomethingInTheWaySheCooks · 26/10/2020 09:44

Another two and a half pounds down for me, which I’m delighted with. I feel like I’ve lost the few kilos I put on when I was laid up with my broken foot and now just need 2 or 3 more kilos to be at goal weight. Hubby is doing really well too. I made chaffles for breakfast!

SomethingInTheWaySheCooks · 26/10/2020 09:46

Oh and I also had two coffees with cream. I am adding about three teaspoons of cream to a coffee. How much do people add normally when they say creamy coffee?

Kleptronic · 26/10/2020 09:50

I put a pound on. No light for me!

SuperbGorgonzola · 26/10/2020 09:52

Some great losses- well done! Day 2 of full bootcamp for me so I'll weigh next Monday.

B- Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, coffee
L- leek and cauliflower soup
D- chicken thighs in a creamy sauce with FLGV

ShagMeRiggins · 26/10/2020 09:54

When I add cream it’s never more than a teaspoon on coffee. Just a little pour, really.
