Seriously low carb bread

superstar63 · 08/10/2020 14:23

Has anyone tried this, it seems almost too good to be true 0.9g carbs in a slice and 2.9g in a roll?

I have ordered some but delivery is taking 6 - 7 days!

I've bought some and it arrived today. I bought a sliced loaf (which is in the freezer) and the four bread rolls.

They are fantastic. You honestly wouldn't know they weren't normal bread. An amazing find!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/10/2020 17:29

Could you add a link please?

I used the lo-dough wraps on recommendation from someone on MN and they were the most expensive air I'd ever eaten!

BIWI · 09/10/2020 18:50

@thenewaveragebear1983

here you go!

Agree with you on the lo-dough wraps - I was really disappointed with those.

I can honestly say, though, that these rolls are great. I'm assuming (hoping!) that the bread is as nice - it should be though, it felt just as squishy.

fanniboz · 09/10/2020 19:12

How funny, I ordered their pack of 3 loaves via Amazon and it arrived today (early!). Had a few slices with my dinner and it was very good. It's not 100% the same as 'normal' bread and they're quite small but I really enjoyed it and will buy again if I can control myself and not eat it all within a few days Grin

superstar63 · 10/10/2020 08:34

Well my order came yesterday and OMG had one of the rolls with philly cheese and chives, roast beef and tomatoes - it was amazing! I think they are as good as proper rolls (almost) but not tried the bread yet.

It does worry me a bit as the ingredients list oats and syrup, does anyone else see this as a problem?

I think these will be a real game changer for me as the possibilites are endless but would only have one a day but so far no negative effects on weight .

I also tried the lo dough and actually threw it away which is unheard of for me!

Thanks for the link @BIWI I've just ordered some bread. I'm dreaming of egg on toast!

Normally, yes, we'd worry about ingredients like syrup and oats - but the overall carb count per roll/slice is so low, it's not a problem.

Technically, of course, they're against Bootcamp rules, because they also use artificial sweeteners, but I won't tell if you don't ... Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/10/2020 13:51

@superstar63 it would be for me as I'm doing pure paleo not necessarily low carb, so oats and syrup would be way off limits.
I just always check these things out in the naive hope that one day there will be a grain free bread.

I think Lo dough is made from the stuff Konjac noodles are made of, so basically a tasteless plant root that's almost entirely indigestible.

This is the nicest bread sub I've ever found, I made some last night with sundried tomatoes and olives, and am making one today with walnuts and prunes. I do tend to slice and freeze though as it can be quite Cal heavy. (Per 100g = 12g protein, 23g fat, 8g carbs)

Seriously low carb bread
BIWI · 10/10/2020 14:17

That sounds lovely @thenewaveragebear1983

superstar63 · 10/10/2020 15:13

Yes, it does sound lovely but I am not really into cooking but enjoying the seriously low carb rolls - had one for lunch with beef, cheese, tomato and mayo with salad on the side so hopefully enough fat for bootcamp!

I only was worried about carbs being correct as you do hear of companies getting the values totally wrong but am glad Biwi is OK with it (apart from the sweetener)LOL.

I am thinking of toasting either bread or rolls to have with pate, camembert, cheese on toast, poached egg on toast etc. Can you tell that I am excited! All I need now is low carb potato and I will be over the moon lol.

I have to confess this is worrying me too. It does seem too good to be true. I suppose the thing will be to see if by eating this bread, it's impacting on weight loss.

superstar63 · 11/10/2020 12:33

Well the roll did not affect my weight loss so far, touch wood! I had it about 2.30pm and was not hungry for the rest of the day which is so unlike me as `i need to eat every 4 hours!

I am so happy that I may have found something delicious that also fills me up. I am going to have pate on toast using the bread later as I have not tried that yet.

OP posts:
BIWI · 11/10/2020 12:35

Yes, it's a bit of a game-changer if we can now have things like pâté! I've tried other ways of eating it, like on celery or cucumber, but it's just not the same without bread or toast!

Incidentally the rolls are high in protein (haven't checked the bread but I imagine it will be the same) so this is one reason why you will also not have been so hungry.

MJMG2015 · 11/10/2020 13:06

Thank you for the thread & the link.

I'm a T2 Diabetic so I'll test my blood sugars when it arrives & that will almost certainly clarify just how LC or otherwise it is!! I'll report back.

I'm salivating at the thought of bread/toast. I'm going to have to be very careful not to over indulge! I'll need to use it very mindfully and not as a lazy option!

Plant based 'bacon' roll is top of the list!

I'll report back ASAP, but I don't think it's going to arrive for a week 😳

I'm in the same boat as you. I saw that it's got syrup in upthread so was immediately put off - will keep an eye on the thread to see if it affects your bloods. Thank you for trying it out!
Kleptronic · 11/10/2020 14:22

I've bought the rolls and loaves and I'm thrilled with them, they've finally got me over the loss of Lidl protein rolls.

superstar63 · 12/10/2020 09:52

MJMG2015

I am looking forward to your update and hoping they don't affect you as I am really enjoying it and mine took 6 days to arrive too although I think Amazon is quicker but a bit more expensive.

I will be putting in a bigger order next time as postage is cheaper the more you order.

I've ordered a loaf of bread and four rolls at ruinous expense! My DH is really going to enjoy a guilt-free bacon sandwich though. I got some extra thick back bacon from Sainsburys for him. I'm more looking forward to pate on toast. I love pate but it just isn't as nice on celery.

BIWI · 17/10/2020 16:27

I so, so, so enjoyed those rolls, and yesterday I had a cheese sandwich with my soup, using the loaf.

I can't actually believe they're so low in carbs, so I await @MJMG2015's testing with much anticipation!

Every time I've tried other low carb substitutes I've been disappointed (Lo-dough I'm looking at you Hmm), so it was fabulous to have something that exceeded my expectations.

MJMG2015 · 17/10/2020 17:31

Hi all - well they arrived yesterday, a lot faster than their website said!

It feels so soft & fresh!

I haven't tried them today as I've had my flu jab (first ever) and not sure if it'll affect my bloods so didn't want to spoil the trial 🤣

If my bloods are ok in the morning, a vegetarian bacon roll is calling my name!!

monkeyonthetable · 17/10/2020 17:47

Thank you for starting this thread. There used to be an amazing bakery in Richmond that made delicious low carb bread and did mail order - nicer than real bread, but it went bust. Never knew where to get it after that. Will try some of these recommendations. Good protein bread is way nicer than bread.

Okbutnotgreat · 17/10/2020 18:30

This is very very exciting. The idea of a cheese and ham toastie is making me drool. What is the postage like? It won’t calculate until I make an order and I’d rather know first. The price is pretty extortionate anyway so will a luxury rather than a regular purchase.

StuntNun · 17/10/2020 19:14

@Okbutnotgreat I paid £3.70.

superstar63 · 18/10/2020 09:43

I ordered 4 packs of rolls and one loaf of bread and it was £4.57. The more you order the cheaper it is and I believe next day delivery was £5.99 so for a bigger order it may be worth doing that.

I. am really enjoying it but only having one sandwich or roll a day - just in case as they do seem too good to be true and eagerly awaiting the results from MGMG2015

Okbutnotgreat · 18/10/2020 13:24

@StuntNun think I’ll wait to see if @MJMG2015 updates on her blood sugar results then make a bulk order, £3.70 is pretty hefty.
