Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

@Takingontheworld

It happened you guys 🤣 I've been waiting for the "oh my god you look amazing" moment... sounds so vein but because I've struggled to see it myself I've often been mildly convinced my weight loss isn't real and its all in my head.

Well i just got stopped on the school run by a mum i hadn't seen in a while and she was like oh my god, you've lost so much weight!

YES I HAVE! thats it, the outside world is noticing. I feel validated 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm pathetic

that's awesome Smile

Thanks StuntNun I never thought it could actually be a deficiency.. I had thought of electorates early in the process, but had taken my eye off the ball on that.. Ill get some low salt .. also lemon juice in water is a great idea, I was doing that .. but again had stopped doing that..

Mimosa1 · 06/10/2020 21:25

Hi everyone,

I bought some ketonuts (low carb doughnuts) made with almond flour and some kind of artificial sweetener, from an online bakery, and they were revolting! and £18 for half a dozen, what was I thinking?? I'm quite disappointed, as I do enjoy a desert very occasionally.
I remember there was a great recipe for chocolate pots somewhere without artificial sweetener, I shall hunt it out ! Obviously not for BC proper, but I do fancy a small treat beforehand without falling off the wagon.

Congratulations on the your weight loss hitting the noticeable stage @Takingontheworld , that must be such a lovely feeling. I'm seeing some colleagues in the flesh I've not seen for ages tomorrow so I'm secretly hoping they will notice something too!

@Laska2Meryls

Here's a list of potassium-rich foods that would work on Bootcamp:

Cooked spinach
Cooked broccoli
Mushrooms
Cucumbers
Zucchini
Leafy greens
Certain dairy products, such as milk and yogurt, are high in potassium

Some fish contain potassium:

Tuna
Halibut
Cod
Trout
Rockfish

Other foods that are rich in potassium include:

Salt substitutes (read labels to check potassium levels)
Nuts
Meat and poultry

In the short term, I'd suggest you try a supplement.

Mimosa I make this dark chocolate mousse which only contains chocolate, butter and eggs. It's absolutely amazing with a few fresh raspberries and extra thick double cream.

Laska2Meryls · 07/10/2020 07:29

BIWI thanks very much for that list.. really useful.. I am definitely going to up the greens , and get the lo salt for starters.. its only been a week or so wanting vinegar so ill look at a short course of vit min suppliment as well.

BIWI · 07/10/2020 08:09

@Laksa2Meryls - go for an electrolyte supplement like Zero by High5, rather than a general vit/min supplement. you can buy direct from their website or from places like Evans Cycles or Holland & Barrett

Great thanks.. I will do that 👍

Mimosa1 · 07/10/2020 10:51

Thanks @StuntNun that recipe is PERFECT

itsmeagainagain · 07/10/2020 17:42

I'm a bit scared to ask this..... Does anyone measure ketones? runs and hides

BIWI · 07/10/2020 19:50

No!

BIWI, I am feeling much better today ,having taken yours and Stuntnun's advice .. Thanks !

StuntNun · 07/10/2020 20:37

Itsmeagain we don't recommend measuring ketones on Bootcamp for three reasons:

  1. You don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight so it's irrelevant.
  2. If you're drinking the recommended amount of water then it will dilute the amount of ketones in the urine so the results will be inaccurate; you would need to test your blood ketone level.
  3. High levels of ketones inhibit the further production of ketones so a high ketone reading isn't necessarily a good thing.
itsmeagainagain · 07/10/2020 20:51

Understood 👍 thank you

Jdhshekr · 07/10/2020 22:37

I occasionally wee on a stick to check that I’m in Ketosis but I don’t pay any attention to the level it indicates, only if it changes colour or not. Weirdly, the only time it has even not changed colour (indicating that I’m not in Ketosis) apart from the two times I cheated so knew I wouldn’t be, is the day before and during my period. I googled to see if this was a thing and people were saying it couldn’t possibly be, yet there were enough women saying that it happens to them every time to make me think that it’s real.

Mimosa1 · 08/10/2020 09:04

@Jdhshekr I have a nutritionist friend who says that women are more insulin resistant around their period. 🤔

I've popped on the thread to say that I have discovered chocolate tea and it's glorious! I've a builders tea fiend but I have to have it with milk, so I've been looking for alternatives. If anyone is in the same boat, Hooglu chocolate brownie black tea on Ocado is the bees knees and tastes fine to me without milk.

Also.... I now officially have a "normal" BMI!!! I've just sneaked in and I know it's an artificial measure, etc. but I'm still very happy. I'm hoping BC will get me nearer the mid point. Thanks again @BIWI @StuntNun and all the bootcampers for your sensible and helpful advice!

Takingontheworld · 08/10/2020 09:06

Congrats mimosa!

Oneborneverydecade · 08/10/2020 09:20

Well done @mimosa1! That's fantastic

I don't know how I feel about chocolate tea. I always have high hopes for non English Breakfast tea but have yet to find one I like. I might try it though next time we order from Ocado

. You don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight so it's irrelevant - can you explain this a bit more please @stuntnun? Do you mean in the way that anyone with a calorie deficit will lose?

StuntNun · 08/10/2020 09:20

That's interesting Mimosa and would explain why women often crave carbs around their periods. If you're more insulin resistant then your cells can't take up glucose from the blood as easily. So it seems as if you're short on glucose making you crave carbs.

Oneborneverydecade · 08/10/2020 09:32

I was out last night but ordered a starter for my starter and a couple of starters for my main. Had one glass of prosecco and no desert. Feeling pretty virtuous Grin although I'm not sure I'm the most fun dinner guest ha

Oneborneverydecade · 08/10/2020 09:33

Dessert!

@Oneborneverydecade

If you're eating fewer carbs then the body produces less insulin - it's the insulin that drives the laying down of fat, hence why you will still lose even if you're not in ketosis

well done @oneborneverydecade... its always social situations which I struggle with as I hate drawing attention and people never seem to be able to accept you just saying oh I'm not having dessert really gets on my nerves. We've got friends round for takeaway tomorrow and although I've planned what I am happy with eating I just know that it will get commented on and then 'oh but you don't need to lose weight' blah blah. Am also planning just one glass of prosecco!!
