Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

Just broken my fast with an amazing (if I do say so myself!) lunch - will add to the recipe thread.

Eggs in a Pot (Oeufs en Cocotte)

You need a ramekin, I did 2 just for me - mine are about 3inch diameter. Find an oven proof dish they will sit inside with deep sides - you will be filling the big dish about three quarters of the way up with hot water!

Heat the oven to fan 160, so probably conventional 180.

Butter the ramekins.
Add a pile of small chopped cooked veg - I used leftover bbqd green peppers.
Add some shredded meat / cheese - I used 2 rollitos per ramekin (as I had them leftover from a picnic!)
Make sure there is a bit of a dip in the centre, it helps when putting the egg in.
Gently crack in the egg, keeping the yolk whole in the middle.
Blob a few bits of creme fraiche / cream / plain yoghurt round the outside and top with salt, pepper and chilli flakes.

Place the ramekins in the deep dish.
Fill the deep dish (not the ramekins!) with boiling water so that it comes about three quarters of the way up the ramekins.
Carefully put in the oven - mine were soft but not runny yolks after 18 mins. Be very careful and steady of hand taking them.out, and remember the ramekins will be HOT! Eat with a spoon, straight from the ramekin.

The final weigh in has seen me reach my target of 9st, I have even seen 8st 13 in the week so very pleased with that. Thank you to everyone! I will keep checking in here and reading the thread even though I don't comment very often. Will be sticking to this way of eating as I truly believe this is what healthy eating should look like. Not really looking to lose any more weight although I would like to lower my fat percentage (25.7%) if anyone has got any tips!

Mimosa1 · 03/08/2020 18:25

Congratulations to everyone on their losses - I'm so impressed! And motivated to start the next BC lighter than I am today

On a side note, Ocado's frozen sausages have 5.6g of carbs EACH! Their second ingredient is rusks. Back to the expensive-but-delicious butcher...

Takingontheworld · 03/08/2020 20:23

Congrats Cad!!

Choux · 03/08/2020 20:46

Congrats @cad186

Nothing wrong with doing a bit of toning up - build muscle to burn fat - but you are already at the lower end of the healthy fat %ages for a woman.

I have no idea how you combine LCHF with losing body fat. I imagine it will be drop the fat a little, add a few more carbs and then do muscle building exercise.

Coming out of lurkdom to say a big thank you to Biwi and Athelstane plus everyone else. I haven’t really commented as can’t keep up with you all but have read all the threads. Boot camp came at exactly the right time for me and has been amazing - I’ve lost just over 2 stone in 9 weeks and have never managed to keep a diet up this long before. I like doing the 16:8 fasting and found a love of courgetti too. Just completed the C25k and about to start training for the 10K. It’s really changed my lifestyle (that said we’re hopefully off to France next week so will be back on the wine and croissants for 2 weeks). Fully committed to starting again in September as I still have another 10lb to lose to reach my personal target. Thanks again- I’m really thrilled

StuntNun · 04/08/2020 06:04

Cad if you're at your ideal weight but your body fat percentage is higher than you would like (although yours is in the acceptable range) then you need to build muscle. The 'fitness' range for body fat percentage is 21-24%. To get into the middle of this at 22.5% you would need to gain 4lb of muscle (and lose 4lb of fat otherwise your %bf would be 24.9.) The easiest way to gain muscle is to take up weight training, preferably with free weights. The quickest way would be something like the StrongLifts program which is three workouts per week but you need a home gym with a weights bench and squat rack or to go to a gym to do it. If that isn't possible then choose some kind of bodyweight training incorporating HIIT and that uses hand weights such as CrossFit. I recommend the Jillian Michaels DVDs as you can get a lot out of them with minimal equipment and you can do them at home. I've also had good results with kettlebells and there are plenty of workout DVDs for that too - check out Bob Harper.

SparklesAllOver · 04/08/2020 06:54

Thank you, BIWI and other bootcampers for all your advice and support, it has opened up a new and I hope sustainable way of eating which I will follow apart from the odd special occasion! Still got around 10lbs to go so hope that will come off naturally in time. Well done all!

cad186 · 04/08/2020 08:04

Thanks StuntNun, I will have a look at that program. I am currently doing weights in the house 3 times a week but just doing my own thing so could probably do with a better routine and a bit more structure, I think I have far too many and too long rest periods!

Mimosa1 · 04/08/2020 08:19

I've had mini woosh - 300g off overnight and even though BC is over, wanted to come and post so I don't bore DH rigid I'm really pleased

Rshard · 04/08/2020 08:50

You should definitely share news of your whoosh here mimosa! We’ll still be posting scale and non scale victories even though boot camp has officially ended.

I like the look of that weights workout too so thanks stuntnun.

BrassicaBabe · 04/08/2020 08:56

Checking in. I can't keep up with the threads at the mo. Although I did have plenty of laughs for the drunken shopping! Grin

This BC bought be solidly back to goal weight. Although currently 2lb over my lowest of about 10 days ago. For me this was the BC of HRT and alcohol-free. Thanks for BIWI as ever for Stirling support.

Oh, had that Konjac rice last night. It was a solid "ok". Would have it again.

BIWI · 04/08/2020 09:26

@Choux

NO, NO, NO, NO!

Eating fat does not make you fat.

Dropping your carbs is what makes your body burn its fat. Upping the carbs will simply lead to weight gain - and it won't be muscle.

@cad186 As @StuntNun has said, if you really think you need to drop your body fat further (although it doesn't sound like it to me - the average body fat for women is 25-31%), then weight training is where you go.

That's brilliant! Well done you. By the way, croissants aren't compulsory in France ... Wink

It's funny @BrassicaBabe I use the konjac noodles regularly, but haven't been able to bring myself to try the rice - not really sure why! I suppose because I tend to either not bother (with things like chilli) or have cauliflower rice instead.

Is the texture like rice?

OP posts:
BrassicaBabe · 04/08/2020 09:37

@BIWI hmm. The texture is like maggots I'm afraid Grin

BIWI · 04/08/2020 09:40

Oooh lovely! Grin

(But how would you know?!)

8Track · 04/08/2020 09:40

Great going @Mimosa1and @BrassicaBabe.

Good day so far, the paw patrol toys I've ordered as a surprise for my friends kids have arrived in time for my trip over on Friday. Just waiting on the fish delivery now oysters as a treat for leaving my job! Weight is the same, but stomach is looking overall flatter but very simply, for want if a better phrase, not like one wobbly piece of fat, but lots of little bits. I'm hoping this is an appearance of a bit of good old fat burning!

Takingontheworld · 04/08/2020 10:26

Scales have etched down a tiny amount this AM. My leggings actually felt looser this morning too which was weird and I've got back into my sports bra that was previously cutting blood circulation off from my torso so good things! X

ealingwestmum · 04/08/2020 13:13

Also checking in with my heartfelt thanks to BIWI and you knowledgeable folk on keeping me in maintenance for the last 5 months. So far, when I’ve crept up, I’ve managed to get eating back under control, and not exceeded 8 st 8lbs since March.

I have 2 NSVs to share. My 80 yr old mum is staying with us for first time since Jan. Walked through front door and exclaimed ‘WOW, you really have lost weight!’ From a woman who used to say don’t pay them compliments or else their heads will grow when we were kids, this is massive! And I know I’m painting her to be really harsh but culturally, she is what she is though mellows around her grandkids.

Second was congrats from the GP on phone consult. Need bloods testing to check on cholesterol; glucose etc but she was really pleased with the loss, and didn’t balk at the method like past drs.

I am a happy bunny. Back in a gym running safely and now need to start to consider some light weights to build a little muscle mass. At 52 in 2 weeks I’ve felt better than I have in years Smile

8Track · 04/08/2020 14:38

Brilliant NSVs both of you, @ealingwestmum and @Takingontheworld!

ealingwestmum · 04/08/2020 14:51

Thank you 8Track. And I missed the ‘never’ in felt better...though I’m sure that was figured out already Smile

Mimosa1 · 04/08/2020 16:36

Wow @8Track and @ealingwestmum ! Seriously impressive !

AWryGiraffe · 04/08/2020 16:53

What's a NSV, from a newbie?

I've been stuck on 80.0kg for days. I want some big whooshes! If I don't start shifting I'm going to have to think about the milk in my coffee 😭

MrsKoala · 04/08/2020 17:02

Well done!

I am soooooo pleased I did this now because out of the blue I have been invited to my late friends ash scattering/tree planting next week (it was supposedly cancelled due to the obvious) and I know it sounds vain (because it is and I am) but I know most of the people there don’t like me (understatement) and feeling confident in my ‘armour’ will make all the difference. I’m attending alone and will have to say I’m now separated etc to my exH and exFriends. I can imagine if I was my lockdown weight I’d feel so self conscious. This will probably be the last time I ever see these people in my life and I just want to be chic, lean and sophisticated. Basically French- I want to be French for the day (without the policeman from allo allo accent of course).

I’m going to do BC guantanamo bay for a week to make sure I’m at my best. (Then I’ll fall into the hole for the tree or something Blush )
