Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

@Takingontheworld

Sorry - I'm really not familiar with MFP to advise.

So stop using it!!! We don't need to count carbs on Bootcamp.

Seriously. If you really want to do Bootcamp you need to engage with it thoroughly and stop flirting with keto or MFP.

We can't promise you the same results as if you were doing other plans, and it's not fair to blame Bootcamp if you're not doing as well as you think you should be.

So you need to make a decision. Are you Bootcamping or are you doing keto (or some other low carb plan)?

Hi @BIWI I loosely follow 16:8 at the moment ... do I need to start eating breakfast at beginning of bootcamp? Thanks 😊

StuntNun · 05/10/2020 06:37

Itsme if you're already doing 16:8 then you should be fine to continue when you start Bootcamp. However see how you feel and don't be afraid to eat breakfast if you're unusually hungry in the mornings. The reason we say to eat three meals a day plus snacks is that if your body is used to running on glucose for energy. When you suddenly reduce your carb intake you can get hungry as your body is expecting its familiar fuel. It takes a couple of weeks for your metabolism to switch over to fat-burning. So skipping meals, at first, can make it harder to stay low carb. So I would say give 16:8 a go but if you're hungry then eat. It will be easy enough to go back to 16:8 in week 3 or so once your body has adapted to eating low carb.

Sts this week, annoyingly. I've seen lower during the week though so fingers crossed I'll have a loss over the next few days. Hope everyone is doing well ahead of Bc proper starting. I'm looking forward to it.

itsmeagainagain · 05/10/2020 08:00

Thanks @stuntnun looking forward to joining you all for bootcamp next week 😊

Oh gosh, i hope I've never come across as blaming bootcamp? I've been delighted with my progress so far and definitely wouldn't have done that without this thread.

I dipped back into MFP to kick start as I'd stalled a bit, and of course ones perspective vs reality can be quite different when dieting, as in, i was clearly getting lax somewhere! It helped me keep track of myself and get back into the flow of it all. As mentioned up thread, there was no intention of keeping that up long term.

I've settled back into usual woe with no tracking or excessive fasting since we got home, having managed to keep on track whilst we were on holiday too (that's never happened!) And scales say I'm down 2lbs this morning.

Woop!

Looking forward to official bootcamp next monday. I'm going to use that as an opportunity to try some different recipes too I think and shake it all up a bit 🥰

BIWI · 05/10/2020 08:22

Sorry @Takingontheworld that was unnecessarily harsh Blush Flowers

But, to reiterate, we don't subtract fibre from carbs in the UK so no need to do that.

In terms of new recipes, have you checked out the recipe threads in the Bootcamp topic? Lots to inspire you there.

StuntNun · 05/10/2020 08:52

You've done really well with your weight loss Taking I'm sure you'll be able to inspire a few of our newbies next week.

Takingontheworld · 05/10/2020 10:27

No worries BIWI. i know i can come across intense here. Im aware how utterly boring diet talk is in real life so i save it all up for here 😳 probably come across quite intense.

Today I feel quite in shock of what I've achieved in a short space. Husband did some side by side photos and i couldn't believe it! I've a long way to go but the main thing here has always been how well i feel on this woe. I really feel so good.

2 st 11.5 lbs, and 2.4lbs till i see 12stone something on the scales. It feels so crazy close.
And to think i was so convinced I'd never make it past a stone. Thank you guys so much for putting up with me. This really is changing my life!

Takingontheworld · 05/10/2020 10:28

I do solemnly swear never to utter the words MFP for the rest of our bootcamp time 🤣

You have done really, really well - very much an inspiration for all those new to low carbing.

And please (continue to) feel free to vent, chat and generally wibble on about all things diet and low carb related!

@takingontheworld care to give me your success in a nutshell? Smile I’m in need of inspiration/motivation/ feel good vibes

Takingontheworld · 05/10/2020 13:05

To be honest its all been so quick.

I started the last week in May, stumbled across here roughly the same time. I lost 10lbs in 10 days, which hugely motivated me. Then week 3 and 4 NOTHING. Nada. It was just as we'd been warned here. Usually I'd have given up immediately, but i was already feeling so good and felt absolutely astonished to feel so indifferent towards foods. No cravings, no binging etc. So i stuck with and it shifted again. I go through regular cycles of seemingly losing 1lb every 2 days for a week, then I'll stay the same for a week. On reflection this has happened often. I am also learning boundaries with going off plan. One carb heavy meal can see my stagnate for 7-10 days alone. Then I'll get another cycle of quick losses. I like to moan alot when i don't lose anything and get dramatic about it. Convince myself I'll never make it etc. And then i start losing again and my brain is like yeahhhhh!

I've another 2 stone at least to lose really but I feel so focused and motivated right now.

Regular beatings from BIWI and the general support here has been instrumental.

I am a control freak, i micro manage and I have extremely high standards, so I'm very hard on myself, and I'm a sucker for instant gratification so the speedyness of the weightloss (when its moving) makes this emotionally work for me. The health benefits and shift in my approach to food is an unexpected wonder to me and what keeps me going when the weight isn't flying off.

I expect it will slow, and I will need to adapt and adjust to get over the finish line. Logically i know this, emotionally I will be a total moaning Minnie 🤣

But all in all, I make it roughly 40lbs in 20 weeks.. which is pretty reasonable if you were to average it to 2lbs per week.

Oneborneverydecade · 05/10/2020 13:23

How tall are you @takingontheworld? We are the same weight having lost almost the same but I don't feel like I've dropped a dress size. I have jeans which now fit that didn't before but they're a size 16

@itsmeagainagain
I hope you don't mind me sharing too. I've lost 2.5st since starting at the end of July. I lost about a stone in 2 weeks then just like Taking have had slow weeks (usually around my toth). But I can honestly say I've never felt less hungry or more in control.

I haven't counted calories or carbs although I do check labels to make sure they're reasonable. I've got about 2st to go to put me in the middle of my healthy bmi. I have been suffering with headaches so today I'm going to start using High 5 Zero as recommended by @BIWI

All the very best. Do you want to share more of your 'journey'? (ha so wanky)

itsmeagainagain · 05/10/2020 13:31

Ah thanks @takingontheworld and @oneborneverydecade just had a quick read but will log on properly tonight after work and kids in bed. I love hearing people’s success stories I find them really encouraging so thanks for sharing. I’ll give you a quick overview of where I’m at later too! 😊

What a great post @Takingontheworld

And you really have done well - I hadn't realised quite how much weight you'd lost!

OP posts:
Takingontheworld · 05/10/2020 16:17

Oneborn, I'm 5'2. I would say I've only dropped a dress size +into comfortably. If that makes sense.

If I'm being really honest, I was edging closer and closer to a 20. I don't think I'd realised how bad I'd gotten and how tight my stretchy size 18s were..

I am as of this week, wearing v stretchy size 14 jeans, but I'd say I'm a solid size 16. I have some 16s that are now loose that i couldn't even do up prior, and other 16s that are still snug. Sizing is weird and I'm starting to reflect on how caught up in labels I can be.

I also have absolutely giant boobs. So i don't feel I'm looking as though I've lost as much as i have really. I'm hoping another 2/2.5st will take me to a comfortable size 12 and I'd be pleased with that. I have an hour glass figure so I'm hoping to be curvy but slim.

Takingontheworld · 05/10/2020 16:17

Also congrats on your weightloss, that is so quick!

bluelefant · 05/10/2020 16:17

Great story @Takingontheworld
Thank you for sharing.

itsmeagainagain · 05/10/2020 21:39

So in the interests of sharing ....Smile I'm early 40's, 5'6 and currently 12 stone 8lbs... I have PCOS and am thinking I may be peri-menopausal. Lowest (wedding) weight 9stone 10 but goal weight is 10 stone or slightly above. I've fluctuated between 10 stone 8 and 12 stone over the last few years but its gradually creeping up and up and it;s definately gettig harder to shift now Sad. I do well on low carb and it suits me due to PCOS. I've been messing around with 16:8 with ups and downs but I'm eating far too much sugar and fasting just isnt enough for me. So I'm in 100% for bootcamp. AIming to get to 11 stone 3 by the end. That's my goal. Looking forward to joining you all Smile

Jdhshekr · 06/10/2020 06:22

Would it be ok to follow along with the bootcamp but not to put my name down to officially do it? I have a history of eating disorders (a very long time ago) and I know that some of the bootcamp rules will trigger old behaviours, but I have been on keto for a couple of months - with a couple of modifications to prevent the ED stuff - and am doing ok but could do with the support and structure of following a group. I’d try to keep any contributions from me to a minimum to avoid being a bad influence.

Takingontheworld · 06/10/2020 07:48

I don't think i ever officially made it onto the spreadsheet, don't fret. Stick around xxx

BIWI · 06/10/2020 08:03

Of course you can @Jdhshekr - as long as you think you will stay well?

What's your overall plan, so that I don't wave my Big Stick at you inappropriately? Wink

What do you need to avoid/which rules are most likely to trigger you?
