Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - last weigh-in!

BIWI · 03/08/2020 07:19

Morning all

Very much looking forward to finding out how everyone has done so here's the Spreadsheet for its last outing

I had hoped, when I started this Bootcamp, that we would have left lockdown properly by now, rather than being in this weird kind of limbo that we find ourselves in. But hopefully it has achieved its objective, of getting us all a bit more focused and healthy, rather than just eating and drinking ourselves to death before the virus could do that!

We will, of course, carry on - I'll keep the thread going and when it's finished, we'll start another one. Just because the ten weeks is up doesn't mean that the diet has ended Grin

Here's to a good result on the scales this morning Flowers

@Jdhshekr Ive done BC in the past and will do it again without joining the spreadsheet either (mostly because I grew up with kilos and that's what my scale shows, and find doing the conversion into lbs let alone stones stupidly difficult) and it always been a super supportive group so don't feel you can't join in bc of the spreadsheet thing.

I also seem to be in a patterns of sts 1 week then having a bit of a woosh. I've stayed the same last week so fingers crossed for this one!

BIWI · 06/10/2020 09:36

@Mimosa1 I thought there was an automatic conversion thingy on the spreadsheet, to convert lbs to kilos/vice versa? We need @AthelstaneTheUnready to shed light on that one!

OP posts:
StuntNun · 06/10/2020 10:57

Pounds to kilos divide by 2.2 or 2.204 if you want to be precise, kilos to pounds multiply by 2.2. Easy peasy.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 06/10/2020 11:00

And so there is!

In the spreadsheet BIWI's linked to in the first post, there's an excel tab at the bottom named "Conversion".

That can do lbs to kilos, kilos to lbs, lbs to stones, and stones/lbs to lbs...

In case you want to go around in circles Grin

itsmeagainagain · 06/10/2020 11:18

Oh that’s great!!’ I only understand stones and pounds!!

20bloodypounds · 06/10/2020 11:35

So I could lose weight by multiplying by 2.2, then dividing by 2.204, over and over again while eating crisps and chocolate Grin

I am going over to look at recipe thread, in a bit but just reporting a real fish ( and strangely vinegar ) craving hitting me this week.. definitely not one of 'those' cravings.. Im 62!!

Fish and vinegar.. hmmm... soused herring? I have just eaten tuna and egg and lettuce for brunch ( with vinegar dressing .. )

It'll be prawn and veg Thai green curry this evening .. ( possibly vindalooed up! ..Gotta have that vinegar!!) ..

Have I gone barmy? I am trying to have a 'pre-bootcamp good week' but I haven't quite managed to give up the evening glass of wine yet

Am still the same weight as I was though..(a few pounds less than end of last BC )

Hello - there's been an absence of Big Sticks in my life and I've managed to put back on everything I lost in last year's bootcamps. (Fortunately not added any top yet...).

It went something like:
September 2019 - hit lowest weight in years, feel awesome.
November 2019 - go on holiday, have 12 days of amazing food, only gain 3lbs.
December 2019 - think 'Well, I've clearly cracked this, as the holiday proved, let's enjoy Christmas'
January 2020 - the scales are not kind. Try to get back on the wagon, but only half succeed.
March 2020 - lockdown starts, DH switches to working from home and brings his chocolate drawer home with him. Think 'Well, it'll only be for a couple of weeks, it's a scary time, might as well indulge.'
May 2020 - go and work at a friend's farm over lambing, burn so many calories that I can eat what I want and still lose weight
June 2020 - finish at friend's farm, maintain calorie intake
September 2020 - see photo of me that isn't taken by my very kind smartphone and realise I now have three chins.

Glad to be back, I've been going three days now and already feel so much better!

Oneborneverydecade · 06/10/2020 12:47

@verylittleowl what I'm taking from that is that I need to convince my DH and the kids that sheep farming is the life for us

Oneborneverydecade · 06/10/2020 12:56

Oneborn, I'm 5'2. I would say I've only dropped a dress size +into comfortably. If that makes sense

If I'm being really honest, I was edging closer and closer to a 20. I don't think I'd realised how bad I'd gotten and how tight my stretchy size 18s were

Tbh I'm the same; I bought an 18 Kin skirt at the end of lockdown and it was too tight really. I'm really looking forward to needing a new wardrobe.

I'm 5ft 10 with small boobs. I don't want what I do have to shrink but I guess it's inevitable.

Thank you btw Blush

Oneborneverydecade · 06/10/2020 13:00

@itsmeagainagain we have a similar goal although you're already ahead Grin Good luck

@jdhshekr I have a friend with a history of disordered eating, she's currently trying to lose baby weight. I always think it must be really difficult to avoid old ways of thinking. All the very best to you

itsmeagainagain · 06/10/2020 13:35

I’ll be watching your progress @oneborneverydecade in a non creepy way obvs Grin

Go for it! Mind you, she has 6,000 acres of hill farm and 800 ewes, so it was fairly non-stop for the six weeks I was there. I have 18 ewes, it's not quite as hectic and doesn't have anything like the same effect!

Jdhshekr · 06/10/2020 14:28

Thank you! I will join in without being on the spreadsheet.

Basically, I started low carb to manage a health condition as it was recommended. The weight loss of just over a stone has been a very welcome side effect, but it was never the main aim and still isn’t. However, I now have about half a stone to go until I hit the normal BMI range and I would very much like to be there after failing to be within that range for about 10 years.

So far I’m managing to stick to it because it’s making me feel so much better and I don’t want to feel ill again. It hasn’t triggered any ED feelings because although I’ve cut out an entire food group I don’t feel restricted because I’m not eating ‘diet’ food. I do, however, eat cheese and nuts, and I do have something sweet every day, although it is always a lower carb option like very dark chocolate or a few small spoonfuls of low carb ice cream. Those three foods made it feel much less restrictive which is keeping me emotionally healthy. It probably means that the weight is coming off slower (have reached a standstill over the past couple of weeks) but I know from experience that it’s healthier for me to do it slowly my own way than to go in all guns blazing, lose fast and end up obsessed.

Takingontheworld · 06/10/2020 15:55

It happened you guys 🤣 I've been waiting for the "oh my god you look amazing" moment... sounds so vein but because I've struggled to see it myself I've often been mildly convinced my weight loss isn't real and its all in my head.

Well i just got stopped on the school run by a mum i hadn't seen in a while and she was like oh my god, you've lost so much weight!

YES I HAVE! thats it, the outside world is noticing. I feel validated 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm pathetic

BIWI · 06/10/2020 16:05
Grin

Not pathetic at all! It's lovely when someone else notices!

@Jdhshekr I hope you haven't cut carbs out altogether - I assume you're still eating plenty of veg and salad?

Oh yes, still eating green veg and salad. Lots of kale in particular.
Laska2Meryls · 06/10/2020 19:18

Inspired by the recipe thread.. I currently noshing Stir fried prawns and chorizo, with garlic chilli , a spring onion , green beans and pesto.. (and no vinegar!)
Yum!!

BIWI · 06/10/2020 19:48

@Laska2Meryls I did a bit of Googling, and there's a suggestion that a craving for vinegar might mean you need more potassium.

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 06/10/2020 19:53

Really BIWI ? Thats very interesting.. I certainly am struggling , atm but not glugging it because it would do my stomach no good .. ill look that up..

What foods , I wonder can I eat for potassium...apart from bananas? (which obviously I cant)

Laska2Meryls · 06/10/2020 20:02

Aha! that is interesting , Thanks BIWI .. so avocados, broccoli and swiss chard would be ok .. We have chard growing in the garden atm.. (sadly not avocados .. )..

I do eat lots of green veg but not avocado much ..

StuntNun · 06/10/2020 20:07

Laska I use Lo-Salt which replaces some of the sodium with potassium. There is also potassium in lemon juice which you could use instead of vinegar in a salad dressing, or just squirt a little into your water, along with a pinch of salt if you want to keep your electrolytes steady.
