@Jiminny
Hello. I've been lurking a while and started bootcamp this week. However I just glanced at the week 1 thread which I hadn't looked at before. It mentions counting both calories and carb intake, which isn't mentioned in the bootcamp rules. There are lots of tabs on the spreadsheet so I'm wondering have I missed one. I've stuck to the rules but haven't been counting anything. Have I totally messed up?
Also, re cheese: the rules say it's okay but don't 'overdo it' or words to that effect. What would be overdoing it? I fear I might have done exactly that! I'm pescatarian so cheese is very useful.
Welcome,
@Jiminny!
This Bootcamp has been an extraordinary one in that we started with a super strict 'short sharp shock' in week 1 - it was designed to get us all into a more focused mindset, as many people were feeling that any sense of healthy eating or dieting had gone out of the window during lockdown.
In 'normal' Bootcamp (is there ever a normal one I wonder?
) we never count calories, and we certainly don't measure our carbs.
The most critical tab on the spreadsheet is the one with the rules, so just follow those and you will be fine.
With regard to cheese, overdoing it would be having a whole pack of cheese in one go! Although we say that this WOE (way of eating) isn't about deprivation, and you should eat if you're hungry - it isn't carte blanche for over-eating, or huge portion sizes - and that's one reason why we say go easy with the cheese.
The other reason to go easy with the cheese (and also cream and milk) is that some people find that dairy can impede their weight loss. (Milk should generally be avoided anyway, as it has a lot of carbs.)
If you're using cheese as a source of protein, that's fine - but just keep an eye on things and maybe try to find other sources as well, like eggs, for example.
