Morning all

So here we are in the new, unexpected second half of Bootcamp!

Spreadsheet is here

Hopefully everyone should be in the swing of things now, and also hopefully we've left the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 behind us, so should be seeing steady losses.

If things aren't going the right way for you, have a good, hard look at what you've been eating and drinking. Make sure you haven't allowed carb creep - and also that you're following the rules!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure that you're keeping an eye on the amount of fruit or nuts/seeds and alcohol that you're allowing. Remember - always in moderation!

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Could anyone point me where to look for info on what happens at the end of 10 week proper bootcamp? I am interested in how to do maintaining without losing, but still eating this way. Thanks!

NigellaAwesome · 01/07/2020 20:09

What awful experiences @calendulaand roses and @MrsKoala Shock

In other news, I was down 2lbs on the scale this morning, and had the most delicious lunch:

Lardons, cherry tomatoes, courgetti cooked in elderly soft goats cheese and garlic granules.

Rshard · 01/07/2020 21:54

The last chat just continues tornfelt, lots of us will be hanging around so there’s always support.

LostaraYil · 01/07/2020 22:58

Calendula, good news, I hope she's ok. MrsK, sorry you had to go through that!
I've had a bit of a lapse today, was craving snacks all day today and then watching bake off with DS was too much and I sneakily stole a tiny kinder chocolate bar... I couldn't even taste it, it was so not worth it! I'll be back on the wagon tomorrow. KOKO.

SparklesAllOver · 02/07/2020 07:24

Calendulaandroses and MrsKoala Flowers. BIWI and Athelstane thank you for continuing this bootcamp.

Having a really shitty week at work, although relieved to still have a job in the midst of this weird new world. Have turned to the bottle and have had wine the last two evenings and feel even shittier! Good thing is that foodwise I have stuck to strict bootcamp, with berries a couple of times, but still no chocolate, which is a miracle! I realise that alcohol has a huge impact on my mental health and whilst it numbs physical and emotional pain, it also causes dark thoughts and self doubt, I am over-analysing everything at present and struggling to fight the downward spiral. Sorry, didn't mean to get so heavy, I can only talk to DH about this in real life as worried about being judged by friends - I am good at putting on a fun act but occasionally the darkness theatens to swamp the light.

Tornfelt I will be continuing this way of eating, have seen results of 8lb + loss and now over the carb flu, enjoying this way of eating.

Takingontheworld · 02/07/2020 07:25

Lots of us having hard times at the minute. I'm creeping back up to FT nights and its a catch 22, it really facilitates 16:8 as i eat early, leave and then if i get home and have a little sleep or have errands to run i can easily make it to 10/12 without eating... but I'm shattered so that's not great.

whispers since i stopped FMP and i now weigh every other day or so, the weight is really shifting again. I'm trying not to get too excited because with excitement comes expectation and hope, I'm currently a pound down every other day it seems. Keep waiting for it to say its broken or something!

Anyways, I'm really feeling the loss now, looser clothes, comfortable, no longer bloated or tense etc... but at 5'3 and still 14.8 (this morning!) I'm still a big girl so don't think the 1.4 st I've lost is. Noticeable to outside world yet. But I'm really starting to feel like I'm gonna do it this time for real.

Laska2Meryls · 02/07/2020 07:38

I was really pleased with my moussaka last night , just lamb mince cooked slowly all daywith spices and layered with aubergine and courgette.. really pleased with my topping, box of full fat philly, mixed with a little Greek yoghurt ,grated parmesan and feta, nutmeg and an egg and spread on top..it came out puffy and was delicious.

Scales not moved any more yet , still stubbornly sticking to that 1/2 lb over the next stone !!

Takingontheworld · 02/07/2020 07:58

That sounds blinking gorgeous!!!

It was spag bol night here so i had mine with kale & baby corn instead.

Hi @Tornfelt.

If you've reached your target, then you can start to add some carbs back into your menus - but very gradually! See what your body will tolerate.

It's a good idea to have a 'tolerance' range - so if, say, your target is 9 stones, allow yourself a range of about 5lbs either way. Should you start to lose or gain, once that loss/gain reaches the range, then you know you need to either increase or decrease your carbs.

Please be aware that you will never always just stick at 9 stones (or whatever your target is) because our body weight fluctuates naturally anyway. But it does mean that you have the freedom to eat pretty much what you want - so if you end up going out for a meal and pasta or pizza is the only option, you should be able to accommodate that, as long as that doesn't mean you start to add loads of carbs to every meal!

To help keep you on track, there's always a Bootcamp chat thread running. When we get to the end of this one, we just keep the last week's chat thread going - and then start another one if we need to.

Morning all! I'm going to try to buy the ingredients today for a Burger King Mushroom Double Swiss (sans bun). It was always a favourite, but sadly discontinued many years ago. Found this recipe and will just ditch the cornstarch...can't wait!
www.sprinklesandsprouts.com/mushroom-swiss-burger/

That sounds tough @SparklesAllOver I know how it feels to use wine in that way- and it's hard for people who are usually perceived as strong to have a day off and look vulnerable for a change. Flowers

Laska2Meryls · 02/07/2020 10:39

That sounds great NowLook do you use Emmenthal? I may make that !

nowlook · 02/07/2020 11:00

I assume so @Laska2Meryls...it's the only Swiss cheese I know Grin

nowlook · 02/07/2020 11:12

Also meant to ask @Laska2Meryls if you parboiled your aubergine pasta sheets before assembling the moussaka? I bloody love moussaka.

Laska2Meryls · 02/07/2020 11:42

now look no I fried them in olive oil until soft , but once coloursed a bit I also drizzled some of the lamb fat that hads accumulated on the mince mosture when cooking into the frying pan and a little chicken stock .. it makes them soften but without adding too much extra oil..
you could bake in the oven though, but you do want the aubergine soft before it goes in .
Lamb is fatty anyway and I didnt want the fat to be overwhelming ( there was plenty of fat In it and the sauce! )

Sheets would be one way but I actually cut them on half moons to make it all easier to handle and assembled it overlapping.

Laska2Meryls · 02/07/2020 11:45

Ok so you can see ( obvs cold now) enough for 2 more meals! I dont do small when it comes to cooking , it seems !)

My DH has just gone 🤦‍♂️ at me posting that !😂

nowlook · 02/07/2020 11:56

That looks absolutely amazing! Don't worry, my DH rolls his eyes when I spend hours trying to find the perfect wedding guest outfit for someone's mother I've never met over in S&B Blush

nowlook · 02/07/2020 11:59

...fortunately, he didn't understand when I retaliated and described his sister as a little bit NetMums.

CalendulaAndRoses · 02/07/2020 12:17

hello all

@Laska2Meryls that moussaka looks amazing - definitely going to try that

@SparklesAllOver empathise hugely with you over the alcohol thing - I been through more than my fair share of heavily dependant phases too and recognise completely that horror of knowing it is a depressant and doesn't help at all but also simultaneously reaching for the bottle every evening. This boot camp has helped me shift my habits and I am noticing a massive upturn in mood and productivity, but am very aware I need to keep working on this change of mode as my go-to is definitely to drink most nights and especially when feeling low, which as we know leads nowhere but to a vicious cycle. Keep sharing here, it's only by knowing our demons that we can make peace with them and move on (I think)

Went to visit DD's pal and her mum last night - just to drop off a card and some cake. The girl looked dazed and tired but otherwise well and they both felt she had a very lucky escape. @MrsKoala I had to laugh as the mum said the ambulance driver told her exactly what you had said, if she hadn't had a few drinks and been a bit floppier it could have been much worse. Yeah and if she hadn't had any drinks at all she probably wouldn't have fallen out a window (I didn't say it!) Alls well that ends well and hopefully DD and her pals are a little more aware of the increased risks that come with drinking after this.

Checked weight today and am bang on 140lbs - delighted! hoping to stay here til Monday's official weigh in and then maybe drop a little more so that my pivot weight (ie the middle of my tolerance range as described by @BIWI above - which makes great sense) is about 140. I think that'd suit me. Anything under 9.5 stone and I just feel weak and feeble so staying within 135 - 145 lbs I think would be good (ideally at the lower end of that range)

MrsKoala · 02/07/2020 12:47

That’s good @calendula. I remember a very VERY drunk woman falling down a large flight of metal stairs at our local pub once (when I was a teen) and having to be helicoptered to hospital. We thought she’d die or never walk again. It was horrific. But she only had a concussion and a few mild breaks (wrist/arm and ankle iirc). Apparently it was because she was so drunk she didn’t reflexively stiffen up. So weird. But then as you say, if she wasn’t so drunk she wouldn’t have fallen in the first place.

@NigellaAwesome I’ve got some goats cheese which needs using and a courgette, I’m going to copy your recipe tomorrow - sounds delicious.

Big Cheese Burgers with avocado green salad and red cabbage and walnut slaw for lunch so maybe just (a lie down) sashimi for dinner.

Going to make some granola this afternoon so I can have it with the lovely ripe raspberries from the garden for breakfast tomorrow. :)

Well, if you're anything like me, what happens next is that you spend the next year or so regaining everything you've lost- and a bit more for good measure- then slink back to @BIWI and @Athelstane with a hang dog look on your puffy little face.

Moussaka looks good except aubergine is the food of the devil Hmm

Nipped into coop last week for a last minute lunch. Bought boiled eggs with mustard mayo. It was good. Recreated it at home. Mayo with a teaspoon of Dijon and grain mustard mixed it. 👍

Day 25 no alcohol. Trying to decide what approach I will take when I get to the end o day 30. Really don't know 🤔 Don't want to become t-total. But as per other conversations I'm not in any way a moderator.

BrassicaBabe · 02/07/2020 14:12

On the Burger King front, did I share my sausage and egg McMuffin triumph?! It was amazing!

BIWI · 02/07/2020 14:26

Aubergine is only the food of the devil when it's not been cooked properly!

It takes a lot of olive oil, then has to be fried until it's lovely and golden and soft - soft that it's almost falling apart.

Then, and only then, it's gorgeous.

I won't order aubergine if I'm in a restaurant because all too often it hasn't been cooked well enough!
