Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6

BIWI · 29/06/2020 07:14

Morning all

So here we are in the new, unexpected second half of Bootcamp!

Spreadsheet is here

Hopefully everyone should be in the swing of things now, and also hopefully we've left the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 behind us, so should be seeing steady losses.

If things aren't going the right way for you, have a good, hard look at what you've been eating and drinking. Make sure you haven't allowed carb creep - and also that you're following the rules!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure that you're keeping an eye on the amount of fruit or nuts/seeds and alcohol that you're allowing. Remember - always in moderation!

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

@1WildTeaParty

We all watch out for the swing of the big stick *@ElizabethHoneysuckle*. I bet you remember rule 9 forever now :)

(It seems that this isn't a forgiving way of eating - if you deviate, you go back into the carb-burning rather than fat-buring mode and you fail. It isn't like calorie-counting where you can just adjust your week's calories and carry on. Cruelty can be kind! )

I was TERRIFIED in the beginning. I have found that I can get away with a tiny bit of deviation right now, infact it does seem I'm losing better for it.

However that said... I'm not drinking any booze at all, and it seems like lots are so perhaps thats my equiv!?

venusandmars · 05/07/2020 17:37

@ShagMeRiggins - the aptly named CHEETOs Grin They will cheat you out of your good habits.

@ElizabethHoneysuckle My very first post on my very first bootcamp I put a link to fatbombs with cocoa, peanut butter and coconut. THWACK !!! My wounded ego wanted to flounce but my sensible head said lesson learned and 18 months later I'm still here, and still learning, and still loving all the recipe ideas and inspiration.

Can't remember who asked about lunch... I often have left overs from the previous day, and frequently with a couple of fried eggs. I am really happy when there's oven roasted veg left from dinner, of some ham and spinach. My dh is always coming into the kitchen complaining that my lunch smells so much nicer than his boring sandwich, banana and pack of crisps "just eating up the leftovers" I say Grin

Where I live, still no pubs or restaurants open, although I've got 4 great places booked during July and August. However, we ARE allowed to hug our grandchildren. What a delight that was this afternoon, even if the alternating sunshine and torrential rain had us sheltering every 15 minutes or so (not allowed inside with other people). I have so missed the warmth and enthusiasm of those little people with their arms round me.

Brunch was creamy scrambled egg, fried mushroom, and some black pudding - probably a bit carby, but I only had 6g carb in total.
Dinner - salmon wrapped in parma ham, oven roasted broccoli, creamed spinach, grilled tomato.

Can I just sneak in here and say (if I say it quickly BIWI won’t hear) that after 40 days abstinence I drank must of a bottle of very nice wine last night. Back on track today and won’t touch any more until 18th when I go in holiday for 5 days.

ShagMeRiggins · 05/07/2020 18:15

the aptly named CHEETOs grin They will cheat you out of your good habits.

That’s very funny.

I’m not worried, more like trying to figure out what the hell was I thinking starting my day like that, especially as I had half of a beautiful sirloin, cauliflower cheese, and buttered broccoli left over from last night’s dinner.

I’m fine, though. I have lost zero weight during Lockdown Bootcamp but that’s because I seem to be in my own version of maintenance mode. That is, I’ve not gained anything either.

For me this is a very long process and I need to check myself at each stage. I suppose I wasn’t ready to commit?

This WOE is absolutely for me. 61lbs down and—eventually—counting down again.

Just need to go at my own pace.

But you’re right about the Cheetos. Angry Grin

nowlook · 05/07/2020 18:19

@ElizabethHoneysuckle

Don't feel bad! @BIWI's lovely (once you've learnt all the rules Grin)
It's pretty remarkable that she puts all this effort in for nowt when you think about it.

Still, it's not for everyone and you won't be the first to flounce as a result.

Hang on if you can- promise it's worth it.

Anyway, afternoon all! Pissing like a racehorse today, so reckon that's a good sign. Had a cheese and mushroom omelette with braised lettuce for lunch. Couldn't finish it all, but kept going with the buttery lettuce.

Anyone else love truffle oil? I'm having it on everything at the moment...

nowlook · 05/07/2020 18:23

And an odd NSV: my nails are amazing! So white and strong and lovely to type with Grin. They're normally shite. *

*this might be nothing to do with BC

Rshard · 05/07/2020 18:45

That’s a very interesting NSV nowlook! This woe is good for skin so why not nails too?

Sorry for double-post. They look like when we used to use Tippex for a french manicure back in the day.

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 05/07/2020 19:09

Thanks for all the supportive comments. Sorry for not getting back sooner, I hadn’t flounced, I was just out for a family walk.

I won’t deny feeling pretty stung- stupidly crestfallen - by the tone of BIWI’s comment to me. If that sounds pathetic and over-sensitive, bingo! I’ve been quite low, and joining this thread felt positive. I’m not great at being beaten by a stick, albeit metaphorical, for making mistakes- it’s not about ego it’s about looking after myself and my mental health. And as someone said below, this might not be the thread for me, although I’d hoped it would be, but as most of you seem so supportive I’ll stick around a bit longer to see how I fare (although I might keep a lower profile!) 😊

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/07/2020 19:35

Stick around Honeysuckle!

Shag might even tell us what 'cheeto' is.

Bad not-really-food I'm guessing?

I am a very sensitive person irl, and as someone else has said many have flounced and I might have almost, but sticking around is the best thing you can do for you.

BIWI wants the best for bootcampers, and does a pretty shit hot job of keeping track and on top of it all for absolutely zero reward other than a bunch of strangers on the tinternet getting slim but she(?) Has equally made me cry with kindness when i needed it most. So hang on in there.

I used to sit in slimming world/ww groups and wish that someone would just follow me around an smack the bad foods out of my hand rather than just give me a wee clap for returning and a head tilt. I like to think of BIWI as the virtual food slapper.

Good luck!

She's probably been nowhere near as mean as you truly are to yourself in your own mind 💐

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 05/07/2020 19:50

Thanks takingontheworld 🙏

BIWI · 05/07/2020 20:00

@ElizabethHoneysuckle

Sorry BIWI yes I did read the rules, multiple times, I don't know why No.9 rule didn't stick in my head or I didn't process it or something. Go easy on me! Feeling a bit stung by your reaction.
I'm sorry if you're feeling stung. But if you've read the rules multiple times, I can't understand why you would still think that nuts are OK!

There are only 10 rules ...

Look - I'm not here to hurt or upset anybody. But I am here to make sure that Bootcamp works for you, and there's no point in me pretending otherwise.

If you don't follow the rules, then it won't work!

Going easy on people actually doesn't help. I'm not going to pretend that if you don't follow the rules, or if you cheat, that all will be well. As you have found, that isn't the case!

Please don't think I'm not sympathetic. We've all been there, got the t-shirt. And absolutely I include myself.

I don’t really want to get into this, but there are countless reasons why somebody might have issues with focus and miss something in a thing they’ve read (dyslexia, adhd, chronic fatigue, stress, the list goes on...). I get that you might not think along those lines and are genuinely baffled how I could’ve made that mistake and are quick to scold (and you’re still doing it now). But you can point out the error of someone’s ways without making them feel stupid. It’s perfectly possible. When I said ‘go easy on me’ I meant in terms of the scolding me for my mistake, of course I’m not suggesting you pretend the rules don’t matter. Kindness and firmness are not mutually exclusive.

nowlook · 05/07/2020 20:43

@ShagMeRiggins
Did I read that right? 61lbs? That's incredible.

That said, I've just googled cheetos and YABU because they look gopping Grin Grin

I missed you saying earlier @venusandmars that you got to hug the grandchildren at last. How lovely!

BrassicaBabe · 05/07/2020 20:53

I stood in a queue today and bought ice-cream for kids and DH. It's the most amazing local ice cream. I had none! I am the Iron Lady!!

Takingontheworld · 05/07/2020 20:56

Yes you are brassica!

Nowlook is gopping a regional term? Off to google its meaning!

Aren't cheetos the American version of wotsits?

nowlook · 05/07/2020 21:10

@Takingontheworld I don't think it's regional.

Mardy is definitely regional, though.

It's hideous weather here @BrassicaBabe, but you are nonetheless amazing in your fortitude.

BIWI · 05/07/2020 21:20

@ElizabethHoneysuckle

Of course there might be lots of reasons. But unless people tell me those, I can't assume any of those might apply.

I'm not 'quick to scold' and nor am I trying to make you feel stupid. I always try to be firm and kind. And I have already apologised to you if you felt hurt by what I posted.

Rest assured, though, that whatever I post here always has your best interests in mind namely, that you want this WOE to work, and that you want to lose weight.

Another Week 1er here

So am going to be recording a loss tomorrow. Grin Do I just report it in the thread or do I update the spreadsheet myself?

I also bought some kale. Not sure what to do with it. I saw someone said garlic kale. Do I just stir fry it with garlic? I think it can be a bit chewy if undercooked can't it?
