Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6

BIWI · 29/06/2020 07:14

Morning all

So here we are in the new, unexpected second half of Bootcamp!

Spreadsheet is here

Hopefully everyone should be in the swing of things now, and also hopefully we've left the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 behind us, so should be seeing steady losses.

If things aren't going the right way for you, have a good, hard look at what you've been eating and drinking. Make sure you haven't allowed carb creep - and also that you're following the rules!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure that you're keeping an eye on the amount of fruit or nuts/seeds and alcohol that you're allowing. Remember - always in moderation!

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Yes i was a bit ragey wasn't I nowlook Blush hope it lasts!

I'm finding the kiddos keep asking to bake which is really difficult and as its always been something we enjoy doing together i don't want to draw attention to why we're not, esp as DD is an impressionable age.

So I'm utilising the shit i bought in the beginning, almond/coconut flour, sukra sweetener etc and making low carb choc cakes (organic cocao powder) littlest seems satisfied with this.

Dd thinks the cakes taste like shit so I'll have to start practising steal like willpower for when the summer holidays hit and she is home FT (currently PT)

prettybird · 30/06/2020 12:39

If it helps, Takingontheworld , I'm able to bake things that I've made loads of times and not feel the need to have any as I already know that they're good WinkHalo

What I have difficulty with is if I bake something new Shock because I want to taste it. Blush

So maybe concentrate on baking "old favourites" with your kids and leaving them to eat the output.

Anyone here use mascarpone? I bought a tub for a sweet recipe and now have half left and am wondering what to do with it. If I stir it into bolognese and fried courgettes and bake in the oven topped with cheddar and grano padana, will that work? Or does it have to be sweet things?

prettybird · 30/06/2020 13:26

That will work. Think of it as extra rich cream cheese or creme fraiche.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/06/2020 13:41

Bit late checking in. Did my weigh in yesterday. Stayed just about the same so koko.

Sorry about your uncle wild Flowers.

Takingontheworld · 30/06/2020 13:44

mrs koala you mean you aren't repeatedly heading to fridge for a huge spoonful 😂 i love scooping it up on a square of dark choc.

Obviously havent for a week hence the better losses Haha

MrsKoala · 30/06/2020 14:02

Ha no. Sorry but that sounds horrible to me Grin I’m Really lucky I don’t have a sweet tooth so don’t eat chocolate anyway (only as an ingredient in things). I bought it because mum and dad came over the other day for lunch and I did poached peaches in Marsala and mascarpone mixed with Greek yogurt and a vanilla pod seeds (I just had mine with berries) for dessert. And now I’m thinking if I don’t use it it will grow mould.

If I eat half a tub in my bolognese with cheese too is that too much for one person?

Takingontheworld · 30/06/2020 15:35

I can't imagine it in bolognese, what would it do? Make it creamy?

BIWI · 30/06/2020 15:55

Why not use it with egg and parmesan, to make a carbonara sauce, @MrsKoala? Would be lovely over some cauliflower and baked in the oven. Or on courgetti.

Here's a really interesting video about the benefits of cruciferous vegetables - broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, etc.

Another lesson learned! Fast 800 shakes EnvyEnvy Bought the strawberry one in a moment of madness. Thought they would be a useful addition when mixed with almond milk for when I'm super busy. Yuck! Grainy. Sicky. Yuck! Chucked it away and had a coupe of boiled eggs.

Takingontheworld · 30/06/2020 18:01

Made a beef roast (ran out of time Sunday and had a fucking huge joint to cook lol)

Celeriac mash is not the one my friends 😂 maybe i did something wrong but even with a shit tonne of butter and seasoning i wasn't feeling it. So beef, roasted cabbages, garlic, shallots and tenderstem broccoli.

MrsKoala · 30/06/2020 18:30

Thanks for the suggestions- I have been struggling to find cauliflower so haven’t had any in for 2 weeks. It’s a pain as I really need it for curries and chilli etc. Anyway, I’ve decided to do a kind of lasagne. Layer the bolognese with strips of griddled courgette and a cheese sauce of mascarpone, cheddar and grano padana, maybe loosened with cream if I need it.

MrsKoala · 30/06/2020 18:34

Takingontheworld I agree I think celeriac mash is horrible. It tastes like it’s turned to me. Even celeriac dauphinois gets forced down. It’s such a pain because I so want to like it.

prettybird · 30/06/2020 18:44

Mrskoala - if you have any ricotta or cottage cheese, mix a beaten egg into it and use that to layer with mozzarella, Parmesan, bolognaise sauce (and dried basil and oregano) and thinly sliced courgette (you don't even need to griddle it) for a lovely unctuous lasagne Grin

The beaten egg would probably work mixed into mascarpone.

The above is actually my mum's fabulous lasagne recipe only she used real pasta lasagne sheets Wink

The graininess is because of the flaxseed in it - which helps to keep you feeling full (along with the fat).

I haven't tried the strawberry one, but do have the chocolate one. I found it much better if I used my stickblender, rather than trying to just shake it in a bottle.

just catching up again after crazy few days at work

welcome @Choux - wishing you the best of luck, follow the guidelines and you won't go wrong

loving all the cheesy sauce ideas - will try this week

tried my first cauliflower based pizza and while it wasn't quite teh sourdough delight my DP bakes up it was nice to have something that looked like everyone else's food and I actually really enjoyed it

@OneFootintheRave you and I are practically twins I think - age, hormones, weight, loss this BC, ability to make ourselves believe we are saving money by buying pricier wine everything

@prettybird - great basis for a wine business. Drink less, spend more

@BrassicaBabe well done on the alcohol - it's one of my battles too, am hoping I will have re-educated myself and formed healthy new habits by time BC is done

here's to KOKOing

venusandmars · 30/06/2020 22:00

Great move brassica this woe is about REAL food, things that grow on plants, things that run in fields or swim in seas, things you can pick for free in hedgerows...

A couple of eggs sounds great.

Laska2Meryls · 01/07/2020 06:38

CalendulaAndRoses · 01/07/2020 07:14

had a horrible shock last night - woke up to dog barking furiously and someone at the front door c. 4.50am. It was my 18 yo daughter with her friend's mum. Daughter had been at another friend's for a sleepover with some other pals. Friend whose dad's flat it was fell out first floor window and had to be taken to hospital in ambulance unconscious. My DD and her pals rang the ambulance, then rang the girl's mum who went up to the city with her in the ambulance. Her dad wasn't there (they are separated) My DD tried to get in touch with me but I stupidly didn't have my phone turned on so her other pal's mum had to get her and drop her home. She was in shock. I'm in shock. Just waiting for news from the hospital. Not religious but praying for good news

OneFootintheRave · 01/07/2020 07:22

OMG @CalendulaAndRoses I hope the girl is OK! Thanks

BIWI · 01/07/2020 07:52
