Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6

BIWI · 29/06/2020 07:14

Morning all

So here we are in the new, unexpected second half of Bootcamp!

Spreadsheet is here

Hopefully everyone should be in the swing of things now, and also hopefully we've left the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 behind us, so should be seeing steady losses.

If things aren't going the right way for you, have a good, hard look at what you've been eating and drinking. Make sure you haven't allowed carb creep - and also that you're following the rules!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure that you're keeping an eye on the amount of fruit or nuts/seeds and alcohol that you're allowing. Remember - always in moderation!

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

hi everyone - hope we're all koko - was doing ok until today when I've eaten some dark chocolate - its so cold and depressing here - where is the summer?? Sad

lost some weight but considering I need to lose around 13kg seems to be very slow Sad Sad. have some NSV as I am looking much more shapely rather than just a bit chubby Smile

lunch - celeriac dauphinoise (leftovers from yesterday) with eggs and bacon and rocket (I know a bit odd but very tasty)
dinner - big chicken and bacon salad

I would recommend the celeriac dauphinoise - very easy to make and very very tasty (peel and slice celeriac into thin slices. make sauce from double cream, thyme, lots of garlic, spring onions), layer the slices with some double cream mixture, and a handful of cheese until finished. Top with some mature cheese or gruyere cheese. Cook for 30mins @ 160c with foil on, and then take foil off and cook for another 30/40mins - just take care that the cheese doesn't burn, (Doesn't need as much sauce as you think as the celeriac releases a lot of water when cooking.) Had with roast chicken yesterday and had leftovers today for lunch.

NoraEphronsneck · 29/06/2020 15:07

Only 2lb loss for me this week but overall that's taken me from 16'1 to 14'13 so happy about that and still going in the right direction.

I have had probably larger portions of berries/cream than I should have in the past week so will keep an eye on that now

I had quite a large roast dinner yesterday at 2pm and then didn't eat anything else at all until 1pm today - so a whole 23 hours - and I wasn't particularly hungry even then. Won't be doing it every day though.

BrassicaBabe · 29/06/2020 15:10

0.2 lb off this week. Better than a gain I guess.

But jealous of pp who had chips, pizza and wine and only put on 1lb. That would be about 5lb for me! Confused

devoncreamtea · 29/06/2020 15:40

Posted on wrong thread! That sums up my day today. I’m tired out!
158.2 today so a total bc loss of half a stone so far. Wish I had seen big whooshes like some of you - but still glad to be steadily shrinking.
So sorry for you wild Flowers take things easy.

Well done for all these pounds down everyone! KOKO

1WildTeaParty · 29/06/2020 16:10

Thank-you for the flowers.

@CalendulaAndRoses "The other nice side effect of this is I was in the supermarket and rather than buying 3 10 euro bottles of red for the week I bought only one bottle and paid nearly double that for it. Net result I get to drink what will hopefully be a really nice red when I do decide to have a glass AND I actually saved money on the normal bill "

I have been doing the same, spending the Euro 12 on one decent bottle and enjoying the odd glass instead of 3 bottles of plonk.

It sounds like we are in a very similar place on the journey what with being 51 with post-menopausal flab. Thinking back to my last GP appointment I'm actually a bit surprised as when I told her about this WOE I was following, she actually said "you won't do it" pretty negative hey!

KOKO everyone Flowers

Not feeling well today so forgot to weigh this morning - will do it tomorrow

That's the ethos of our wee wine business: why buy three when you can buy two? ie encourage people to trade up in quality and reduce the quantity Grin

If you're going to drink, make sure it is good quality stuff! Wine

I’m annoyed at myself- I sabotaged over the weekend. I was 1.5lb down on Saturday morning. Then allowed myself some respite, and quelle supris the 1.5lb was back by this morning. When will I learn Confused
But onwards and downwards. It’s Monday- I’ve been totally on plan and I know I can do this if I make sure I keep steady at weekends. Seeing in laws in 2 1/2 weeks time- last time I saw them at Christmas I was one stone heavier so if I can make it another half stone before we get there I’d be over the moon. I’m sure they’d have expected me to go the opposite way over quarantine!
Had dinner already with kids and had a keto cottage pie- so beef mince with swede mash topping and oodles of butter.
Might try to check in more to keep myself accountable.

Takingontheworld · 29/06/2020 18:08

Hi all.

Really sorry to hear some of you are having a tough time. Thinking of you all.

I'm weighing in the morning so I'll check in. Last check i was 3.5lbs down so we shall see...

venusandmars · 29/06/2020 21:42

So lovely to read of so much progress, especially after weeks 3 and 4 when people were measuring ounces lost. The great thing about this stage in boot camp is that we can stand back and see the overall sustained impact. Slow, steady, but entirely possible. And so many amazing things to eat.

I've been losing and gaining the same 2 pounds this week and have ended up this morning on a gain. I know the issues: portion size, snacks, boredom eating... I just need to be busy!

BrassicaBabe · 29/06/2020 21:58

It's a journey of self discovery sometimes isn't it. Bone achingly tired today. Didn't want to be cooking a family dinner. Wanted to go to bed. This tiredness materialised as a mad craving for wine. I'm on day 23 of a self promised 30 days alcohol free. So while fighting the tiredness and wine craving I ate! In the main "on plan ". But I way over ate by eating my body weight in cheese 😩 a snack pack of mini jammy dodgers and crystallised ginger straight from the jar Sad(Not pregnant!!) Put a stop to the situation by going to bed to watch telly. Onwards!

Takingontheworld · 29/06/2020 22:06

23 days is amazing! Think how you'll feel in 7 more days. Proud of you!

Choux · 29/06/2020 22:35

Hi - could I join you for part 2 of the boot camp? I weighed in this morning at 180lbs. 8 of this is lockdown gain, another 30lbs of it has gradually slipped on over the last 6 years or so. Now I feel fat and at 5'4 am just into obese BMIs which is a wake up call.

I've never done a low carb diet before so not entirely sure of the rules. Today I've eaten:
B - 2 eggs, spinach with butter, smoked salmon, black coffee
L - chicken, peppers, fajita sauce
S - 25g peanut butter, 25g cheese, cucumber and 1/2 tablespoon salad dressing
D - 240g soy and ginger marinated salmon

Plus two cups of tea with semi skim milk and as much water as I can drink.

MFP tells me this is 19g carbs, 50g fat and 75g protein. Does that sound broadly what I should be eating?

devoncreamtea · 29/06/2020 22:40

BIWI or another more knowledgable person will be along I’m sure, but as I’m here... I think more fat! And lots of green veggies with your protein otherwise looks good! Good luck and welcome Flowers

devoncreamtea · 29/06/2020 22:43

Oh and the rules are on the beginning of the 2nd thread I think for boot camp ordinaire. Really worth a good read of the recipe threads too. Off to bed but look forward to chatting more soon!

Choux · 29/06/2020 22:55

Actually I got that wrong. It's 19g carbs, 93g fat and 112g protein.

Will look for thread 2 now.

BIWI · 29/06/2020 23:02

Welcome @Choux!

The rules are on the spreadsheet, which is linked to in my OP.

B - 2 eggs, spinach with butter, smoked salmon, black coffee

Perfect!

L - chicken, peppers, fajita sauce

OK - not so sure about this, as I don't know what was in the fajita sauce. If it was from a packet or a jar, did you check the carbs? They often have sugar in them. Also, how was it all cooked? How much fat did you use?

S - 25g peanut butter, 25g cheese, cucumber and 1/2 tablespoon salad dressing

Peanut butter isn't allowed in the first two weeks of Bootcamp. I know you're joining us for the second half, but you should still be starting with two weeks of 'proper' Bootcamp. Also, was the salad dressing home-made or from a jar/bottle? If the latter, again be careful as it might have been sweetened

D - 240g soy and ginger marinated salmon sounds lovely, but where is your veg?

MFP tells me this is 19g carbs, 50g fat and 75g protein. Does that sound broadly what I should be eating?

We don't count our carbs on Bootcamp! I also don't really like MFP as many of their counts (carbs and calories) have proved to be inaccurate. But that said, your day does look very low in carbs - probably because you haven't been eating much veg! Your proportions overall are wrong though - it should be low carb/medium protein/high fat. So your stats show that you're not eating enough fat.

Choux · 30/06/2020 00:22

Thank you BIWI.

Lunch - I forgot to add I used vegetable oil to fry it and didn't record it on MFP either. It isn't a meal I would repeat as part of the diet but was the leftovers from Sunday night.

Peanut butter - I read that nuts weren't allowed for two weeks.

Dinner - salmon. It was meant to be less salmon more veg but I needed to go shopping and had no veg in. I have now been and have a wide variety of salad and veg for rest of week.

Salad dressing - was pizza express dressing and does contain 3g of sugar per 100ml.

Dumb question but if we aren't counting carbs are we counting calories? Or just eating from the permitted foods with no counting? I had 1,435 calories but less fat than protein so will try to fix that in the coming days. I wasn't hungry or needing more snacks though.

Takingontheworld · 30/06/2020 07:06

Official weigh in- 4.4 lbs off for me this week!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳

1st 4.2 since May 19th. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow guys.

Laska2Meryls · 30/06/2020 07:28

That is a fantastic loss Taking well done👏

Takingontheworld · 30/06/2020 07:39

Choux i came here meticulously MFP everything too. BIWI beat me into submission convinced me to stop. The scales had completely stalled in week 3/4, which is normal but i was frustrated.

I haven't logged into mfp at all this week or so and now they're shifting well again.

No kcal counting.

Thanks Laska!!

Rshard · 30/06/2020 08:15

Wow taking, that’s a great loss!

Welcome choux, that’s the beauty of this woe - no counting!

venusandmars · 30/06/2020 09:42

Hi Choux try just following bootcamp rules without logging everything, or counting calories, and see how it goes. Wouldn't it be great to find you didn't have to bother with all that faff, just eat delicious fresh foods, put butter on your veg, and drink lots of water. And lose weight! It really is an amazing way of eating.

One thing to notice is what happens to your appetite. You might find that by adding butter (and other fats such as coconut, avocado), using good quality mayonnaise, eating eggs etc. that you can reduce your portion size, and not feel at all hungry between meals. And won't need a snack between lunch and dinner. Or anything after dinner either - no evening nibbling!

Sometimes the snacking is a 'mouth-habit' or something we do because others around us are having a biscuit with their coffee or some crisps before dinner. I often have alternatives available such as these seaweed crispy thins or cheesies to avoid me being tempted by sweets/biscuits/crisps that might be on offer. But in reality, I notice that I don't actually need or want anything, and often my alternative snack remains uneaten.

B - avocado
L - leftover veg with a fried egg and a big side salad
D - asparagus and courgette wrapped in ham with a cheese topping

nowlook · 30/06/2020 10:02

@Takingontheworld

So pleased for you given how frustrated you were a couple of weeks ago!

I'm in week four, so not going near the scales now until next Monday. I was another 2lbs down yesterday, but not this morning apparently Grin
