Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6

BIWI · 29/06/2020 07:14

Morning all

So here we are in the new, unexpected second half of Bootcamp!

Spreadsheet is here

Hopefully everyone should be in the swing of things now, and also hopefully we've left the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 behind us, so should be seeing steady losses.

If things aren't going the right way for you, have a good, hard look at what you've been eating and drinking. Make sure you haven't allowed carb creep - and also that you're following the rules!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure that you're keeping an eye on the amount of fruit or nuts/seeds and alcohol that you're allowing. Remember - always in moderation!

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Oh god. That’s awful. How high was it? Was she drunk? If she was drunk she may have fallen better, I know it sounds weird but the more floppy and relaxed you are the better.

I have a terror of windows. When we moved into our house it was a hot summer I took ds2 (2 days before his 2nd birthday) to bed and the blinds were already down On the floor to ceiling sash windows, h must have pulled them, I was reading a book sat on the bed and ds2 ran to the window to hide, lifted the blind and fell straight out of the window (h had opened them to cool the room down Angry ) 5m onto the concrete drive. It was the most shocking thing I have ever seen. I can still hear my screams. As I ran to the front door I heard ds2 cry, which was the best sound I’ve ever heard. A helicopter was sent out, and we were rushed to Kings in London. He was fine. Miraculously all he needed was some stitches on his chin. The drs said because at that age they are floppy and don’t tense up the fall has less impact. Like with a drunk person. I had to be treated for shock. Your daughter should really rest and keep warm and hydrated just in case. Hot sweet teas all round. Fingers crossed for her friend.

CalendulaAndRoses · 01/07/2020 09:37

thanks all - yeah my blood ran cold too - what a horrible shock. DD is, I hope, asleep but she was not in great shape when she got home around 5am. They'd had a bit to drink (I've only started relaxing a little when she goes out now she is past 18, huh, that's taken a battering I can tell you!) but I don't know how much that affected the situation. Poor poor kid. Waiting to hear how she is and am just feeling sick with worry. Mainlining strong coffee with cream here which probably won't hep with my jitters

CalendulaAndRoses · 01/07/2020 09:41

cross posted @MrsKoala OMG that's an experience you would never forget. Thank god your DS was ok. Thanks re the alcohol. I may not share that piece of info with DD but you've made me feel a little more hopeful. It was "only" a first floor window. About 10-12 feet up.

CalendulaAndRoses · 01/07/2020 09:44

apparantly the girl was crying after she fell but went unconscious after that. The others who were there called ambulance and then called her mum so at least they had that presence of mind. They did move her in from outside which maybe they shouldn't have done...sorry don't mean to derail the thread but just having somewhere to share this is helping me while I'm sat here trying to work and achieving absolutely nothing

Rshard · 01/07/2020 09:54

So scary calendula, sounds as though your dd and the other friends did exactly the right thing. Fingers crossed for good news

MrsKoala · 01/07/2020 09:55

It sounds hopeful she was crying and might be better she was drunk. I am sending all my positive thoughts your way.

Hello, I'm starting low-carb bootcamp today. I've looked at the resources (thanks @BIMI) but haven't quite got my head round everything, so can I ask a couple of questions please.

  • I can't see where it says if you have to measure the carb intake each day and what is the limit?
  • if carbs are measured, are calories not measured at all? (This would be v good for me!)
  • are all pulses off the menu? I'm sure I read somewhere that white pulses e.g. butter beans are okay?

Thanks!Smile

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 01/07/2020 11:46

Sorry that was meant to be thanks to @BIWI! Misread it.

CalendulaAndRoses · 01/07/2020 12:02

welcome @ElizabethHoneysuckle - we don't measure anything - carbs or calories (except in the really strict rare week 1 - though I avoided both even during that week). Think all pulses are off menu but check the spreadsheet to be sure

update on DDs friend - just had message from her mum and they are on way home from hospital - diagnosed with concussion but nothing more serious (not that concussion isn't serious but ykwim). Think it'll be the cue for a good sit down with DD later or tomorrow and a discussion re the perils of drink. again. But for now am just feeling very very relieved we are not having a different and much tougher convo. Thank you all for the hand-holding earlier Flowers

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 01/07/2020 12:05

Thanks @CalendulaAndRoses. I'm glad there's no counting, hurrah! And very pleased to hear your DD's friend is okay-ish.

Welcome @ElizabethHoneysuckle!

No carb or calorie counting at all. Just follow Bootcamp rules and you'll be fine.

Pulses, I'm afraid, are off the menu for the (normal) 10 weeks of Bootcamp.

Flowers Calendula to you and DD. I hope you hear some good news soon!
ElizabethHoneysuckle, welcome. No counting carbs or calories, just stick to the rules. No pulses. I'm sure someone with more expertise will be along to advise you more! Post some examples of what you are eating and you will get some feedback.

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 01/07/2020 12:19

Thanks lostar and BIWI
A shame about the pulses as I was planning a butter bean, avocado, courgette, celery and spinach salad later. But I can replace the butter beans with tuna or eggs. I eat fish but not meat so pulses would've been handy, but will stock up on large quantities fish and eggs!

venusandmars · 01/07/2020 12:20

So pleased to read that update Calendula It doesn't lessen the shock though, sometimes the 'what ifs' that you / your dd can imagine are worse than the reality. Good time to reinforce the perils of risk taking.

ElizabethHoneysuckle if you follow the bootcamp rules your carbs will automatically be lowered. We don't count carbs because the main aim is to eat lots of fresh and healthy food - salads, avocados, green vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, asparagus, cabbage... all of which contain some carbs.

For example you could have a 50g carb limit and eat a Starbucks blueberry muffin which has 52g carb, or you could eat my food for today which has slightly less than that - you can see which is healthier Smile (and tastier)

B - boiled egg mashed with butter
L - avocado with salad
D - lasagne made with courgette 'sheets' and keto cheese topping

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 01/07/2020 12:24

Thanks venusandmars that makes sense. I'm actually quite excited to get started. Feels positive. I have 4 stone to lose ultimately, so I have my work cut out for me, but I'm ready!

Rshard · 01/07/2020 15:09

So glad it’s ‘just’ concussion calendula.

Welcome elizabethhoneysuckle, great support here always - good luck!

Flipping heck. Just went cold reading this. Thankgod your son was ok!!!
devoncreamtea · 01/07/2020 16:34

So glad that your daughter’s friend is relatively ok! What a relief for you both Flowers

Super duper annoying day here... Ive got to re apply for my own job (nice!!) and I cannot begin to tell you what a faff it has been. I couldnt copy over my details like qualifications or employment because of the way it is formatted - plus I’ve got a Mac at home and it’s windows at school, which is its own unique shit show to begin with. IVe never been so frustrated!!! It took absolutely hours. I have asked for a slight change to my role though, so fingers Crossed to that!

Plus bloody scales went up this morning. I’m sure it’s just a (water related Grin) fluctuation - but still, didn’t help my general mood!!!

Welcome to new peeps - Brew

Freetodowhatiwant · 01/07/2020 17:09

Hello all, i am busy this week as due to go to spain a week today (so far no flight cancellation!) and also my work is busy. I finally has sponsor for a creative project I’ve been doing for no money for two years! So it’s exciting in that sense.

Mrs K thank you so much for your reassuring words about the separation. It sounds like you have been through similar and are a few months ahead of me. This is my week to rip off that plaster and I’m sad and nervous but also know it’s got to be done to get to the next stage.

Glad to hear your friend’s daughter is ok now callendula. Wow what a shock. My then four year old fell of his scooter and cracked his skull in two places (helmet all the way now) and was unconscious and spent a week in hospital. An awful time but thankfully he’s ok now.

Im KOKO with the food and scales going down ever so slightly every day although I am having a drink in the park later with my London neighbours as it might well be the last time I see them for a while!

Freetodowhatiwant · 01/07/2020 17:10

Sorry about the job Devon. These are difficult times!

MrsKoala · 01/07/2020 17:24

Calendula that’s fantastic news. Really. It could have been so much worse. When we were waiting for the ambulance ds2 was crying and I was frantically checking him over and apart from a cut chin there wasn’t a mark on him (he had a dummy in which saved his teeth and possibly biting his tongue off - so fuck you to all those chastisement for letting a 2 year old have a dummy Grin). I was convinced there would be internal bleeding or brain damage. The flying doctors arrived with a portable ultrasound but found nothing. When we arrived at kings there was a team waiting. It was like ER. They spent a frantic 30 mins checking him for every possible break or damage while I held him. Then after much shaking of heads and whispered discussions one dr said to me ‘we think he’ll need a few stitches in his chin’. That was it! I was pregnant with dd and they were then more worried about me losing the baby as I was in such shock I couldn’t speak or stand.

My parents got a taxi a while back from our house and the driver said to them ‘is that the house the little boy fell out of the window?’ And they said yes it was their grandson. He said he knows the neighbours opposite who came to help. Apparently the neighbour still has nightmares and hears my screams. Every year on that day I have a big cry and think about what could have been. Utterly terrifying. Hug your daughter extra tight. Flowers

Rshard · 01/07/2020 17:28

That’s a terrifying story mrskoala, I somehow missed it when you first posted about it. One lucky ds you have there!

CalendulaAndRoses · 01/07/2020 17:35

thanks again everyone.

God @MrsKoala you went through the wringer that day, so glad he is ok. And you too @Freetodowhatiwantwith your son. Honestly hugs all round tonight for all the kids. Experiences like that make you realise what a fine line it is keeping our loved ones safe, and how little of it is in our control sometimes.

Also empathise with you @FreeTodo with the impending separation. I split with my xH ten years ago. We are very amicable and in many ways I still love him but I just couldn't live with him and his shenanighans. It's still bittersweet, to this day. I'm glad you have a holiday to look forward to to take your mind off things/give you time to reflect (delete as appropriate)

@devoncreamtea sorry about the job, what a faff. Probably stress infecting the scales I'd say

MrsKoala · 01/07/2020 18:04

Totally agree calendula. There seems no rhyme or reason to injury freetodo. Ds1 fell forward from a standing position into the bed post when he was 17months old while I was a foot away. Cut thru his cheek, the muscle underneath and cracked the cheek bone. He barely flinched but the whole side of his face was hanging down. He had to go to a specialist plastic surgeon in East Grinstead to repair his face. It was surreal. A friend slipped and banged the back of his head on a pavement and was in a coma for months and has never been the same. It’s all about the way you land. Just luck.

Devon I feel your pain. We have only apple products at home (Hs obsession) and when I was filling in job forms it was beyond frustrating. I always worked in education and they really don’t use compatible stuff (technical word there). The amount of hours I’ve spent just trying to cut and paste things over isn’t funny. It would have been quicker to have done it in semaphore or morse fucking code. Angry
