Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 6

BIWI · 29/06/2020 07:14

Morning all

So here we are in the new, unexpected second half of Bootcamp!

Spreadsheet is here

Hopefully everyone should be in the swing of things now, and also hopefully we've left the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4 behind us, so should be seeing steady losses.

If things aren't going the right way for you, have a good, hard look at what you've been eating and drinking. Make sure you haven't allowed carb creep - and also that you're following the rules!

If you've moved on to Bootcamp Light, make sure that you're keeping an eye on the amount of fruit or nuts/seeds and alcohol that you're allowing. Remember - always in moderation!

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

I've been out for lunch at my local! Chicken livers in brandy and cream sauce followed by braised ox cheek and a random side salad. One very large glass of red. Eschewed the bread, horseradish mash and carrots.

Well done all. Soon week five for me, so hope the scales start shifting again!

nowlook · 04/07/2020 16:33

I should say I ordered the random side salad. Didn't trust the seasonal veg.

devoncreamtea · 04/07/2020 17:20

The ‘seasonal veg’ 🙄 Always carrots and peas!!

nowlook · 04/07/2020 18:05

100% @devoncreamtea
The season in Derbyshire is always 1976.

SparklesAllOver · 04/07/2020 18:25

Some inspiring losses, well done! I am now a total of 10lbs down since start of bootcamp, am thrilled so have booked a holiday for May next year and hope to feel comfortable for the first time in years in a swimsuit. Woohoo!

devoncreamtea · 04/07/2020 19:16

@nowlook 🤣🤣🤣

Great work sparkles !

Today I had a friend round indoors! Was lovely to see her and drink tea together (too much tea but then felt quite energetic from caffeine all afternoon!) went to beach and kids swam but was a bit choppy so I stayed on shore and DH went in. He is RNLI so very aware of sea. Then we saw a man who looked as though he might be struggling - so DH swam out to him. Turns out he was ok but I bit tired from current. DH swam with him a bit but no drama. Just reminds you how unpredictable sea can be.

Had chilli and sour cream avo etc for dinner. Delish.

I think wine on set days is the way to go pretty. I like naice wine. But when I was drinking 3/4 bottle a day I lowered my standard. Might follow your lead and up my game and just drink less of it.

Your mojitos sounds fab MrsK. Also like your approach of non-al before you have a "proper" drink too.

PMSL "The season in Derbyshire is always 1976." devon nowlook Come on over to Lincs. I feel your pain! I'm going to borrow that one!

We've had roast duck, cauli cheese (the dairy/cals in this always bite back!) and buttered leeks! Lots of fatty duck skin! My fav

MrsKoala · 04/07/2020 19:58

@nowlook Grin that’s like my mums cooking. She’s a fantastic cook but her repertoire is very 70s bistro; prawn cocktail, melon and port or pate and dry toast for starters. Coq au vin, beouf bourgignon, duck a l’orange for mains. Veg always peas and carrots and Lyonnaise potatoes. Pudding sorbet. And always a cheese board. Very nicely done just all very drippy candle wax down a bottle wrapped in wicker and red checked table cloth. Grin

@NigellaAwesome forgot to say the goats cheese courgetti was gorgeous. Really really satisfying. I bloody love goats cheese!

Tonight was salmon baked in butter and dauphinois celeriac (it was the best one I’ve done - I added rosemary sprigs and a tsp Dijon mustard to take the edge off the celeriac) and flgv. Can’t decide what to do tomorrow. I’ve got a freezer full of mince and a swede. I may do cottage pie, especially as the weather is all a bit wintery here.

I can’t find cauliflower anywhere so am going to have to do an Iceland order for some frozen steam bags for cauliflower rice as I really want to vary the dinners and am avoiding anything rice affiliated as I feel cheated with nothing a a substitute.

MrsKoala · 04/07/2020 20:02

@BrassicaBabe the duck skin is my favourite. My parents hate it and we always had duck a l’orange for Christmas dinner growing up. Mum would peel it off and give it to the dog before she brought it to the table [shick] . So for years I never new what I was missing. Then I realised and ate it all. Now we don’t spend Xmas together she brings it over cold for me on Boxing Day and I snaffle it in the kitchen while cooking dinner.

BrassicaBabe · 04/07/2020 20:13

Nigel Slater has an AMAZING little recipe for chicken skin popcorn. Shock

devoncreamtea · 04/07/2020 20:32

Love duck! I found some duck scratching type things in Sains a few months ago. V. Expensive but tried -them - gross! Most disappointing!
I always eat loads of chicken skin when I’m serving up roast chicken - DH tells me off as it’s the kids favourite bit! 😬

BlusteryShowers · 04/07/2020 23:31

Been off the threads but still KoKo here. No weight off this week but I really maffed up the meal plan this week and was feeling very very bored by my menu.

With that in mind, please could I have your favourite low carb lunches? I've been rotating omelettes and ham/tuna salads for about 6 weeks now and my resolve is not holding up.

I love soups but it's one of the only times I miss bread so ideally not soup suggestions please!

BigJonn · 04/07/2020 23:42

@BrassicaBase Thanks for the thoughts! :-)
Been on a massive struggle for the last couple of weeks. Work pressures and no exercise with bad BBQ food and lack of LGV has been a struggle :-(
Back on top of it now and taking back control.
Discovered a magic recipe for chocolate which has perked me up tremendously.
My children will eat the Milk chocolate version I create. White chocolate is fab, but it is not to everyone's taste, Approx 1-2g net carbs per half bar for milk and less for White.
Let me know if anyone is interested :-)
Curry and spice my other passion has returned to me with all the benefits that come with good keto weight loss.

thinkabouttomorrow
Brilliant! And a fantastic NSV. I love it ehen something finally does up ! .iI have a tiny Jigsaw skirt , id love to get into, or perhaps the micro tartan kilt I was wearing the day I met DH ( but I can't ever see that happening, thats a real 'old size' 10, and quite possibly would not be a style that 62 yr old me can carry off with aplomb now 😂)

Laska2Meryls · 05/07/2020 07:40

I had 2 half glasses of red last night with dinner ( celebrating wedding anniversary) . After so long not drinking they went straight to my head!
I was impressed with myself stopping there, usually id have had about 2/3 of a bottle !
And this morning still in the 11s !! Yay ! ( But its not official until tomorrow and logged )

Freetodowhatiwant · 05/07/2020 08:11

Hello all, been reading occasionally but busy packing and spending last few days with STBXDH. It’s all amicable but sad and difficult. Still no cancellation of my flight though so fingers crossed I get away for the summer.

I can’t seem to get back on track with the weight loss after breaking the WOE on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s the first time I’ve broken it properly but had alcohol and crisps and chocolate when having a last evening with my neighbours who have become best friends over the years. And now I think I’m pre menstrual. Will KOKO.

Would love to go round for dinner at your mum’s Mrs K! There’s a restaurant I go to in spain that is full on 70s and has all that including crooners and a ‘ladies’ menu’ with no prices on! I hate the latter but everything else is delightful.

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 05/07/2020 08:54

Hi folks, I'm nearing the end of my first week, started well but been finding it very hard and have caved and had carbs a few times - in a fairly minor way- but a few oatcakes here and there. And ate way too many peanuts yesterday. I have felt hungry and occasionally nauseas. I presume this means it'll take longer for my body to adjust to new WOE. I think upping my water intake would help (not enough so far) but I'm surprised at how hard I've found it 😔

Ragwort · 05/07/2020 09:10

I don't weigh every week but did weigh this morning and have lost a stone since starting Boot Camp - delighted with that and feel motivated to try and lose another stone and a half.

My favourite lunches are things like an plate of assorted cheese, cold meats, hard boiled eggs, avocado with a large green salad with mayo and an oily French dressing. Or sometimes I have a big brunch, eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms. I am trying to keep to 16:8 but it doesn't work very well with my work pattern (without going into tedious details it is not easy to eat where I work Grin). But I do stick to just two meals a day all the time now and never feel hungry. But I eat lots of fat - cheese, cream, butter, fatty meat, pork scratching, the occasional spoonful of peanut butter etc so I always feel full. I do think you have to get into the mindset of eating fat. I found it hard at first after years of low fat diets, Slimming World etc but I now embrace all the fat - AND IT WORKS !!!

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 05/07/2020 09:15

Ragwort well done, that's fab! Can I ask, how long did it take you to lose a stone?

Takingontheworld · 05/07/2020 09:22

Ragwort thats amazing!!!!

We sound v similar! I started may 19th and I'm currently 19lbs down. I'm trying to do 16:8 most days but its actually easiest on work days as I can't eat at work (unless i take it and even then not easy at all!) So have found weekends harder as I'm sorta moseying around the house nibbling lol

I think i need to lose 3 stone before anyone is going to really notice so I'm just kinda head down and plowing on right now. I need to lose 5 in total at least, maybe 6 if i wanted to really push it but I want to be reasonable.

Altho I'm a bit worried about how loose my skin, esp boobs are going to be and wondering if i should aim for size 12/14 rather than a 10/small 12. But i seem to have a mental "all or nothing" issue (applies to all areas of my life!)

Ragwort · 05/07/2020 09:26

It's been exactly six weeks, I started the day after the official start date of Boot Camp.
I have stopped drinking as well, I used to drink 2-3 glasses of wine a night Blush, in the last six weeks I have probably had 5-6 glasses in total. I genuinely feel so much better ... of course lockdown helps as we haven't had any social occasions but my DH drinks every night however I have remained strong willed enough not to join him. We are hosting a BBQ party next week ... that will test me !

devoncreamtea · 05/07/2020 09:29

Amazing Ragwort really well done! Flowers

Elizabeth I def felt rotten for a good week. Sorry ☹️ It is hard to cut out carbs but if you eat enough fat drink enough water it will come together and suddenly feel different. MKe sure you eat if you need to. Eventually appetite lessens. But at first, if you feel hungry/snarky/deprived/like you might cave - eat some fat. Pork scratching, cheese, glug of cream (saved me many a time!!) or a fatty drink like creamy coffee or cocoa with cream. Some people use coconut oil in coffee. Coconut oil is amazing and does fill you up. Try to cook with it - I reckon you’ll notice a difference. Keep going!

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 05/07/2020 09:29

That's fab Ragwort, and very encouraging to hear!

Ragwort · 05/07/2020 09:31

Taking - I've long accepted that I will never get to a size 12 again, I would love to be a comfortable size 14 and at my height (& age - over 60!) I believe that will look good. I have been an 18/20 recently and currently wearing a 16 a bit tight. I met a friend on Friday and she immediately noticed I'd lost weight which was encouraging, I don't tell anyone anymore that I am 'dieting' after so many years of being on/off diets it all gets very boring.
Good luck Taking, you will get there, this group is so supportive and helpful.

ElizabethHoneysuckle · 05/07/2020 09:32

Thanks devoncreamtea. I think I need to think of snacks to get me through- I don't eat meat but something crunchy like pork scratchings but veggie would be perfect. I'll investigate!
