Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

Was scrolling through quickly and thought you were all talking about how old you were. Until someone went from 56 to 55. God, please sell me that secret Grin Grin Ah I see five foot six to five foot five. Got it now.

venusandmars · 08/06/2020 17:19

Then I sniggered at I'm 56 and aiming for 140. Yup me too. I'm damn close to 59 but aiming for 120 so I've still got half my life to live... Oh you're still all talking about height

Takingontheworld · 08/06/2020 17:20

Thanks for enlightening me guys! Ok so yes aside from cheesestrings, cos they are the easiest thing I can eat in car between shifts (1 day) i guess I'm doing clean keto. No more than 25g carbs a day. Usually closer to 20. Once or twice i crept up to 30 but appear to have remained in ketosis according to the sticks.

is it weird I'm enjoying peeing on sticks cos I'll never pee on another pregnancy test?

Takingontheworld · 08/06/2020 17:21

I'm not on the spreadsheet and i dare not touch it for fear of fucking it up 😂

AthelstaneTheUnready · 08/06/2020 17:21

Blimey, @venusandmars, what did you say?!

Dissing bootcamp? Wink

venusandmars · 08/06/2020 17:26

@athelstanetheundready - yup was a bit gobsmacked at that myself. But I think it might be that I used a word meaning scornful laugh, which begins with 's' and is followed by an awful racial slur.. Good to know that mn central are on top of this stuff. They might be having a wee laugh of their own at how innocuous my post was Smile

AthelstaneTheUnready · 08/06/2020 17:45

gosh, I've used that recently. I guess now is not the time for algorithms to be sloppy though.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 08/06/2020 17:47

And now that's it back, I fully agree - I intend to live until at least 140. Might be a bit tottery and wrinkly, but when the papers ask what the secret is, I'll say BIWI.

Ifeelfat · 08/06/2020 17:56

To those that are horrendously constipated - don’t take your dog for a long walk, that’s all I can say...

I had to ring DH to come and get me bloody quickly. Very nearly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life Blush Blush Blush

venusandmars · 08/06/2020 18:05

@Ifeelfat weigh yourself weigh yourself

Sadsammy · 08/06/2020 18:25

Posted on thread 2. Having started the low carb mid week and finishing off some carby things, I've been delighted to lose 1.6 lbs as my scales haven't changed for about 9 months! Cancelled all chocolate and fruit from my online shopping. A friend bought a cake round today and it seemed rude not to have it as it's the first time I've seen her since way before lockdown. I'm really impressed with everyone's weight loss! 😀

venusandmars · 08/06/2020 18:34

To anyone who missed it, my post made at 17:19:37 had been automatically removed to be looked at by admin... Phew! It's back and I've not been banned but thumbs up to mn for picking up random hidden words.

So I've lost a pound this week which is surprising given that my crisp habit is not yet under control. I've managed to move well away from the sweet snacks, but a certain shop, a certain brand (won't even mention it in case it tempts other people) have been my Achilles heel.

Plus there were peas gowning in the garden. New fresh, squeaky little pods, with fat sweet summery peas inside. I succumbed. Blush But they are never very prolific so it was a very short lived experience and I know that everyone else will dive in before I have a chance again.

The coriander is growing wild. What can I do with it? Someone on the last thread mentioned coriander chutney - recipe?

@jofish26 you asked about feeding full fat to the rest of the family.. YES. You don't need to limit their carbs if they are all in a healthy weight range but low-fat products have so many additives to gives the mouth feel of thickness and creaminess and texture. Give them full fat yogurt, cream, cheese, and adjust the quantities if needs be.

@Ifeelfat You lost more than 5 lbs, then more than 3 lbs. That is great. Just feel great about it.

Someone was asking about sweet things: Twinings do a cherry and cinnamon tea which hits the spot for me, plus I make rhubarb fool sometimes. Rhubarb - which is actually a vegetable, not a fruit - some orange zest, grated ginger. mixed with whipped double cream. Yum yum! Double cream actually tastes quite sweet...

@sauvignonismysaviour interesting what you say about pointless carbs. dh doesn't like courgettes, says they are a pointless vegetable as they taste of nothing, but I maintain that my courgetti noodles have loads more taste and colour than his egg-flour noodles!

@MarkRuffaloCrumble - loved your post about your height was never going to change. It's one of the things that I had to realise: I'm never going to be 35 again, I'm never going to look like Suzy Quatro, my legs are never going to be long enough to make me 5'8''

@MrsTerryPratchett yes, yes to the skin thing. I lost 3 stone but on this way of eating everything just seemed to tighten in and I'm not left with a big baggy chin...

So today, food -
Coffee with cream
L - left over chicken, left over turnip, left over cabbage, fried eggs
D - left over paneer mutter (or halloumi, spinach and courgette curry)

Tomorrow I'm meeting a friend for a physically distanced walk and a picnic. I stupidly got in a panic and couldn't imagine what to do on a picnic without a sandwich. But now I've got cheese and ham rollitos, cucumber, salad leaves, radish, a tomato, olive oil and mushrooms in mayonnaise, then 2 strawberries (please forgive me @BIWI) chopped into double cream with the grating of one quarter square of 90% chocolate.

Oh, in the chutney I use erythritol instead of sugar!

Notwatchingtvtoday · 08/06/2020 18:54

Ifeelfat hope your okay and sorry that did make me laugh 😀

And the “weigh yourself comment“ made me laugh as well, only on boot camp.

Reminded me of the google I did on laxatives, one helpful comment said “only take if your not going to leave the house for 2 days” 😀

prettybird · 08/06/2020 19:05

Am I the only one trying to find the hidden words that were in Venus' post at 17:19 that warranted it being temporarily removed? Confused

Just me? Wink

I also seem to be about the only person here who has somehow increased my height Shock which does wonders for my BMI Wink I always used to think I was 5'4" and then I measured myself again a number of years ago and I was 5'5" Smile - and then a few years ago measured myself again after a particularly stretchy Pilates session and I was 5' 5.5" Grin

I should probably measure myself again, now that I'm 59 Wink

Wormthatturned · 08/06/2020 19:07

Oh @Ifeelfat, sorry about your walk situation but 🤣 - very childish, I know. I'm even a little bit jealous - which just shows how bad things are here! However It doesn't bear thinking about, even for a significant downward shift of the scales.

Rshard · 08/06/2020 19:17

It took me a couple of reads to spot it prettybird, ‘chuckled, giggled, laughed’ when I did.

So I just made this for dh, I have eaten when being less in control and it’s divine. But it does have flour in, 1 cup. I don’t know if something could be subbed for flour, ground almonds possibly. It’s courgette cake. Any thoughts?

Finally got it GrinBlush

prettybird · 08/06/2020 19:28

Almond flour, coconut flour, ground linseed - or may be just an extra egg and some Parmesan to bind?

BIWI · 08/06/2020 19:29

Why are you keeping your carbs so low? And, more to the point, why are you counting them?!!!

@venusandmars I couldn't work on what on earth was going on, since I read @AthelstaneTheUnready's post once your post had been reinstated!

Good job you don't come from Scunthorpe, that's all I can say!

prettybird just read that as ...pleasure myself again now I’m 59... and wondered what I’d missed Grin

Sauvignonismysaviour · 08/06/2020 19:46

Tzatziki. You delicious little snack you! :-)

(Still constipated. Is it wrong to be jealous of poo urges on a dog walk?!)
