Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

Yes, Sauvignon.. Yes, it is.

Dairy heavy day today. Good job it's a week til WI.

L: grilled cheese 'toastie' with cauli crust instead of bread
D: pesto chicken with cream and feta

Anybody else fed up of cooking? No sooner have I done lunch, walked the dog, done some work then it's time for tea. I'm either cooking, cleaning the worktops or meal planning. Thank god I'm not having breakfast - might just push me over the edge!

kakiqueen · 08/06/2020 20:13

Hello everyone.
Well done on all the losses after what sounds to have been a tough week for everyone.
I haven't weighed myself yet, as I actually forgot this morning.
I will do it first thing tomorrow morning.

I've just had dinner and am still hungry, which in frustrating, as I had quite a lot and I start worrying whether I will ever feel full /satisfied. Maybe it's more in my head, rather than actual hunger.
Food today: B: 2 teas with unsweetend soya milk
1 coffee with cream
L: Green salad with an egg, mayo, 2 slices of salami, a chunk of brie and some left over pulled pork.
S: Serrano ham crisps from M&S
D: 1 portion Konjak noodles (1g carb) with meatballs and cheddar ( no tomato sauce) and some cauliflower coleslaw (made with mayo and sour cream)
P: Total yoghurt and cream

Feel like I am going wrong somewhere.
I will wait to see how much I weigh tomorrow.

KOALA: I love the idea of liquorice tea and will source some of that.

BIWI

Id discovered Keto before I discovered these threads (hence being a week in front in weighing)

Was told v specifically to keep to less than 25g for my weight and height.

I'm using mfp as I mentioned (altho how accurate it all is I don't know!) So its all automatically tracked. Im finding that I'm not struggling to keep it that low. I've had days I've barely made it to 15-17g carbs, 🤷‍♀️

NoraEphronsneck · 08/06/2020 20:31

I'm down another 3lbs today so really happy with that and haven't struggled at all in the past week.

Today though once I started eating about 1pm, I have been ravenous all day - haven't strayed from lc but haven't stopped eating either.

Had bolognese on top of salad at 7.30 and that's me done for the day.

I think I'm drinking less than 3 litres of water each day (including black tea/coffee) and probably need nearer 4 so will focus on that tomorrow.

One quick question - why can't we eat nuts? Are they high-carb or just too high-calorie? When I haven't been low-carbing previously I've found that eating one or two helps stave off hunger for hours so I am missing them.

Yep @Puppermint - I love cooking and meal planned yesterday, but it’s time to make lunch for everyone, then DH cleans up and then it’s time to start prepping dinner, and yep he’s cleaning up now!
BrassicaBabe · 08/06/2020 20:48

Anybody else fed up of cooking? Fuck, yes. No sooner has knife and fork been put down and already having to think about the next meal

ShagMeRiggins · 08/06/2020 20:54

You lot are on fire today. Nothing to contribute, but damn! Pissing myself. Flowers

Puppermint · 08/06/2020 20:56

Ha ha, glad I am not alone. I love cooking, don't get me wrong, when it's accompanied by a large glass of red on a lazy Saturday evening but I cannot get over how much my family need to eat! In ordinary life, DH works away in the week and DS eats at after school club most nights so I only really have myself to look after bottle of wine and a family bag of Walkers Sensations . But these people are ALWAYS hungry!

Rshard · 08/06/2020 21:01

Yes puppermint! I regularly feel like I’m running a small cafe.

Thanks for the alternative flour options for the courgette cake prettybird

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/06/2020 21:19

@devoncreamtea
Thanks for your well wishes. Yes, I think this will be the way forward for me.

Had what I really want to be blip today because of being desperate for energy. I ate things, which aren’t allowed. Toffees and a pack of crisps. I’m so pissed off. I need to get back to eating correctly. It’s so easy do so when I have enough energy as the pay off is immense and actually gives me energy.

prettybird · 08/06/2020 21:25

My supper tonight: a stir fry using the third of a steak that I didn't eat on Saturday night. Not bad for a second meal for two! Grin

I included so many veg that I decided not to open the bag of Naked Noodles that I have (instead dh warmed up some rice that was left over from last night for himself). I didn't even manage to finish my plate - and I have more veg in the wok to snack on tomorrow afternoon (when I can eat again after my 16:8).

Because they are very carby very quickly! In these first two Bootcamp weeks we're keeping our carbs lower, to encourage our bodies to switch from carb-burning to fat burning.

Hopefully after the two weeks you will have made that shift, so you can increase your carbs slightly.

However, one of the other benefits of low carbing is that your appetite will naturally be suppressed. So if you're still hungry, that would suggest that you're not eating enough fat, and/or you're eating too many carbs.

Why do you feel you're doing something wrong? Your food looks fine to me.

Loving catching up with the thread! I am not a fan of cooking, and it really does feel like a cafe, especially with trying to use up everything and stretch the food out till the next shop so making different things for each person. Now the boys have started on MY Cheesies and I need to find somewhere to hide them!
Good day today.
L- scrambled eggs, avocado, smoked salmon
D- creamy beef curry, cauliflower
Coffee with cream

kakiqueen · 08/06/2020 22:39

@BIWI
Because I always feel hungry.
And my mouth feels weird, like my tongue is fizzing/tingly.

Will I get to a point where my hunger will lessen, do you think?

Is it ok to drink unsweetened soya milk freely?

Sorry for all the questions. I really want to stick with this because I know if I eat carbs, I cannot stop.

BIWI · 08/06/2020 23:10

If you're always hungry then

  • you aren't eating enough
and/or
  • you're not eating enough fat

It can take a few days for your body to get used to it, but by this point you should be experiencing much less hunger between meals.

Also, are you drinking enough water?

Re soya milk - no you can't drink it freely. There are 2.5g of carbs per 100ml, and 100ml isn't very much - so if you're drinking it freely you will be consuming a lot of carbs.

Morning,

Going for a dairy free day today after yesterday's cream and cheese fest. Plan is:

L: tuna and egg salad
D: lamb kofte, tzatziki, salad

kakiqueen · 09/06/2020 07:30

Good morning @BIWI,

Thank you for your answers. The milk I use is sainsbury's unsweetened soya milk, which has less than 0.5g carb per 250 ml, according to the pack. That's why I thought it was ok.

I have just weighed myself and have lost 2lbs, according to my husband's rickety old scales

I will keep going.

I hope everyone else has a good day. The sun us shining here for a change and hopefully it will for all of you too.

No worries @BIWI

I love tea so much Smile

BIWI · 09/06/2020 07:47

Just make sure that you're drinking plenty of plain water as well (which can include sparkling), and not all your fluid is coming from tea.
