Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

@jofish as soon as we get onto bootcamp lite, you'll see a whole world of low carb sweet treats open up...thanks to the arrival of 95% chocolate and the berries onto the playing field to join the cream/yoghurt/mascarpone/quark. To misquote Morrissey.... every day is like Sundae.

Just got to KOKO until BIWI says the word!

Until then...Greek yoghurt with a drop of vanilla or cinnamon.

burratabitch · 08/06/2020 10:40

Thank you for the new thread @BIWI

Well done to everyone on the losses. I've not weighed myself today as totm overnight and feeling very bloated. I stopped using birth control in March as my skin and moods were terrible and I felt like after however many years of using some sort of hormonal bc my body needed a break. Sorry if tmi but this is the first period I've had since and the cramps are awful!

Feel like face planting into pasta bake and choc but am going to have some Greek yog now and plan a comforting warm lunch. Maybe cauliflower and broccoli cheese will be a good pasta bake alternative.

bluelefant · 08/06/2020 10:41

Interesting conversation about weigh vs height vs body frame.
I am also 5'5" @Freetodo and my goal is actually 147 pounds(66.5kg) Wink
And at that weight I would def be able to wear size 10 jeans.
I have a huge bust and no bum which throws my body frame a little bit out of proportion.I can imagine ever going back to 60kg I would probably look far too skinny.

moleeye · 08/06/2020 10:43

Ooooooh @burratabitch good idea on the lunch front. I was going to make a salad, but think I want something warm and cheesy instead!

devoncreamtea · 08/06/2020 10:44

@Mummyoflittledragon I only just read your post on the old thread. I’m so sorry that you have such awful fatigue to deal with. Will you move on to BC light do you think? It will give you a wider range of foods to keep you going. Don’t push yourself too hard. Flowers

Flippinfurloughed · 08/06/2020 10:46

Morning all, I have been very quiet as had a horrible week (we were broken into) and I have fallen well and truly off the wagon. That said, I weighed this morning and have stayed the same - I came on my period this morning too which makes that all the more astounding! I am back on it this week though, it feels like something has just clicked and I AM worth doing this for. I deserve to feel good too? I dunno. I’m rambling! It made sense to me though so bring on the coming week. Well done everyone for your losses!

TheClitterati · 08/06/2020 11:13

4lb off this week - which after last weeks gain makes 3lb loss overall. I'm happy!

really getting into 16:8 - makes me realise how often I get the call to eat at night when I'm not hungry, and 16:8 gives me a simple framework to deal with that. As a lifelong "emotional eater" I like the no bullshit, no fluff strong boundaries 16:8 gives me.

Sauvignonismysaviour · 08/06/2020 11:21

Oh my gosh @Flippinfurloughed that is awful, I'm so sorry. You sound like you're starting this week so positively - you are definitely worth it!

Thanks for the new thread BIWI.

I'm not weighing today, I am still so constipated despite the tons of water and green veg. I'm not expecting a huge loss now, I think it'll be more like 1lb a week. My BMI is 24 but at only 5ft2", a petite frame and no shoulders, I look heavier than I would like. In fact, I think I've been in denial for the last few years that I've looked okay; the target weight I've had in my head has never been quite low enough especially after having a baby and my body shape changing.

For the pizza cravings I second aubergine pizza bases - or courgettes - they are delicious, flavoursome and easy. One of the best things about this diet is you can still have so much good flavour. I actually appreciate a Bolognese without spaghetti, stir fry veg without rice or noodles etc as it doesn't lack taste; it could be argued it enhances it.

Food plan today: no breakfast as I'm not hungry. (IF has worked well there!)
Lunch will be ham salad and for dinner it's roasted aubergines with a little pesto and mozzarella.
Tomorrow it'll be ham & cheese omelette for lunch; steak for dinner with buttery kale and am going to attempt some swede fries!

Well done those with the losses and sorry for those who are feeling a bit low. I'm feeling a bit weird today too, DD went back to nursery today while I work. Plus ongoing lockdown, the protests & riots, just don't quite feel like myself. Have a good week everyone - KOKO!

devoncreamtea · 08/06/2020 11:38

@Flippinfurloughed Flowers that is bad news I’m so sorry. No wonder you fell off wagon - and well done for getting back on it under those circs!

Height wise - I am short 5’2 so my BMI at 160.2 (new shiny weight...😊) is overweight at 29.
Having said that BMI is a bit rubbish for me, because I am an hourglass with boobs and bum - even as a young un when I was 8 stone - before babies and life had had their fun, I was all boobs and bum. I hated it at the time and wore massive jumpers (generation grunge...!) but I would love it now! 🤣

BlusteryShowers · 08/06/2020 11:42

About to put this on for tea today. Will have it with tenderstem brocolli

Notwatchingtvtoday · 08/06/2020 11:43

Flowers for flippinfurloughed and everyone else who has had a tough week. Thank you BIWI for the thread.

1 lb off for me this week so 6 in total, as BIWI says it does often slow down in the next week and then in the next weeks you may get a whoosh overnight, so the secret is really to KOKO and ignore the scales.

B Total Greek yogurt
L eggs and avocado
D lamb curry served on green veg

Water 💦 💦 💦

Rshard · 08/06/2020 11:55

I’m really sorry to hear about the break-in flippinfurloghed, it’s a devastating experience Flowers

Really interested in how that beef turns out blusteryshowers please report back

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 08/06/2020 12:00

Oh flippinfurloughed. You poor thing, how awful. Puts the weight loss thing into perspective a bit. Hope you and your family are ok.

Another one not keen on the height comparison (wonder if it’s all the 5’9”ers that are up for it! Us shorties don’t come out of it so well). It’s bad enough having one of the higher starting weights on the spreadsheet without having that indexed to me being 5’3” Grin no doubt making my BMI one of the highest on there. We’re not supposed to be in competition with each other and our height isn’t going change so it’s a bit irrelevant to the spreadsheet I think.

Reading the caveat that this can be a tricky week for stalling is reassuring, as I started a week before boot camp, so technically last week was my week 3 Smile. I had a great loss of 8lb in the first week (before the spreadsheet even started) then 4lb off in (my) week 2 and then nothing for a week. So while the scales haven’t budged for over a week, and my spreadsheet loss is 4lb, overall I’ve lost 12lb. Maybe this will be a better week for me?!

MrsKoala · 08/06/2020 12:18

Have I missed that we are meant to put our height somewhere? I’m 5ft 10 if it’s relevant. Like I said on an earlier thread it sounds mad to people when I say my goal weight is 12st and that’s when I’m a size twelve. My collarbone, hips and ribs start poking out too much any lower than 11.7 Which is when people start telling me I look ill. I have a huge frame - bigger than a lot of men. I am in proportion tho it’s only when I stand next to other people I look like a mutant.

Burnshersmurfs · 08/06/2020 12:18

3lbs this week, with a bit of up and down along the way, as I readjust to normal bootcamp. Giving up dairy -and booze- has made a real difference for me- feel so much better overall.
I'm not too worried about the scales from now in- just enjoying feeling clearer, lighter, more in control and more like my old self.

ebeneezergood · 08/06/2020 12:19

Hi all and thank you BIWI got all the help and the new thread. Sorry to those who have had a tough week Flowers.

Yesterday I was kissing my daughter goodnight and she said ‘Mummy, why does your breath smell like nail polish remover’! I have never been so pleased to be told my breath stinks 😀. Anyway really chuffed with my weight loss this week albeit this was only my week 1. I’m 5ft11 so although it takes a long time for any weight gain to show it also takes a lot for any losses to show up too.

PS thank you to whoever first suggested putting cinnamon on natural yoghurt. That has been a lifesaver to me when the chocolate cravings hit hard in the evenings

Rshard · 08/06/2020 12:27

There was just some curiosity about our different heights mrskoala.

Just making a cuppa for dd and I, put a cookie on her plate and realised another difference with this woe, to add to the benefits that nink posted upthread. I never feel the need to treat myself with food after a weigh in. When I’ve done WW in the past, I always had ‘treat night’ after weigh in. Have never felt like that while eating like this, so to me it genuinely is a woe and not a diet.

SunshineInMySprocket · 08/06/2020 12:33

Hi everyone,

Well done on all the successes so far! I've lost 3lb this week taking my total to 8lb. I'm really pleased with my progress although I have had a few extremely stressful days over the last week.

I find the thread so motivational and try very hard to keep up with it when I can. Just planning to keep on going this week!

MrsKoala · 08/06/2020 12:38

Ah I see Rshard. Height and frame make such a huge difference. I’m lucky with mine because I can tolerate quite a high level of carbs and lose weight quite easily. I also need more calories.

I remember when I was mid 20s working with a woman of similar age and she was 5ft if she was lucky. She had a tiny frame. Really dainty. She was constantly dieting and would complain bitterly about how if we went to lunch and ate the same it wasn’t fair as she was genetically predisposed to put on weight and I wouldn’t. I used to think well of course I need more food than you. I’m humongous!

herecomesthsun · 08/06/2020 12:38

So I am down a bit from my starting weight - not a great week, but I do know why that is!

I need to drink more water and exercise more, especially.

Freetodowhatiwant · 08/06/2020 12:53

@bluelefant

Ooh never used this feature before. It’s a new one to me on MN even though I’m an old regular.

Yes it’s strange isn’t it, the different weight thing. I’m a size 12 at this weight and height but am starting to get away with a few tens. When I put on weight I put it on all over although my stomach is the last to go when I lose it.

prettybird · 08/06/2020 13:09

@Linnet - I measure waist, hips, under boobs, over boobs (widest point - those two measures help establish bra and cup size) and if I can be bothered, neck, upper arm, thigh and calf.

Having said that, I've not been measuring recently as I now have trust that this WoE works. But as an NSV, I'm now able just to wear a belt that I'd got too big for Blush since Lockdown - which I'm grateful for as my other adjustable belt (they're both plaited, so no holes per se) is now far too long and as a result has a tail that flops out of the belt carriers.

I also have a button front Nicole Farhi evening/cocktail dress (ankle length so very versatile) that I try on periodically and see if I can do it up. I'd just about got back into it before Lockdown although with too much strain on the buttons Wink so it will be a while before I try it on again Blush

1stMrsF · 08/06/2020 13:11

Hello, good to see everyone. Sorry to hear so many are having a tough time and thank you to BIWI for the positive vibes at the end of the last thread, it was very helpful. I have struggled to get back into BC this time, with weeks of terrible habits during lockdown combined with an emotional week of back to school for the DCs and back to work for me meaning there have been several slip-ups. However, focussing on what's working, I've changed some of those habits, I've done a good shop, and I've increased my water intake. So I'm just going to push on.
B - creamy coffee
L - chicken soup and roasted broccoli with feta
D - need a plan...will look at recipes

PastramiNoRye · 08/06/2020 13:13

My frame is a bit all over the place. I'm tall (not far off 6ft) and my waist is small compared with my bum and thighs, which are very generous. I'm very pear-shaped!

BIWI · 08/06/2020 13:21

No time to post more, as I'm working today - but just to say

NO SUGAR-FREE JELLIES DURING BOOTCAMP!

Two reasons:

  • they contain artificial sweeteners, which we're avoiding (see rule 10)
  • we're trying to break the hold that sweet things have over us.

From next week onwards you can have them - in moderation.
