Low Carb Bootcamp Ordinaire - Week 3

BIWI · 08/06/2020 07:15

Morning all!

The start of a brand new week. Hopefully it will be a better week - emotionally/psychologically - for us all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your progress.

Hopefully we've all had a good couple of weeks, food and weight wise.

Be warned that we're now in week 3. Many, many, many low carbers (not just Bootcampers) find that the weight loss can slow or stop in this week (and also week 4)

If this happens to you DON'T PANIC! If you've been losing so far, then you know it works. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on) and things will get going again soon.

Good luck to us all [ flowers]

Sorry about the break-in, flipping

As an act of faith, yesterday I ordered a swimsuit in size 14 rather than 16. Can't give in now!

gruntley123 · 08/06/2020 13:30

Checking in with another loss this week. Thank you for all the support on this thread. Like others there are a lot of deep set emotional reasons for my food issues. I think this is genuinely the first time I have ever felt that there is hope that I can overcome then.

Good luck to everyone for the coming week.

Freetodowhatiwant · 08/06/2020 13:36

I didn’t really think I was an emotional eater before but I just drank a rather too large amount of double cream straight from the pot Blush I think I’m starting to be a bit pre menstrual but I can’t give into that as it’s still a good 5 days away. I feel so annoyed with myself.

MrsKoala · 08/06/2020 13:51

Aargh just realised I’ve been working out my weight wrong. I thought it was wrong at the beginning and couldn’t work out why. I was sure it had 70 in it somewhere but then I kept working it out and it was right. So I I thought it must have been in kilos before or something all modern. Just realised I’ve been doing 12 x 12 rather than then 12x 14. Despite knowing full well there are 14lbs in a stone. Sigh. Makes no real difference to me as I have still lost 6lb and was still thinking in stones.

Anyway apologies if I’ve mucked the spreadsheet up Athelstane.

CathcartKatie · 08/06/2020 13:51

Many thanks from me too BIWI for the pep talk...I see you less as a cheerleader and more as Rosie the Riveter...sleeves rolled up, letting us know we can do it Wink
Pleased and suprised to have lost a couple of pounds this weigh-in.
I was at a funeral mid-week and went back afterwards to the house.....well garden. There were only 6 of us obviously and sandwiches, quiche and sausage rolls had been arranged - in individual personal containers. I absolutely could not have declined.
Rest of the week must have been on track though.
Am putting it down to the lack of alcohol which prior to camp had been an almost constant companion Blush.

Must resist renewing that friendship...
PS Takingonthworld Hope you do get to go to Lapland at Christmas..if you do, try if you possibly can to go on a snowmobile..wonderful fun!!

Freetodowhatiwant · 08/06/2020 13:57

A funeral sounds sad and stressful at the best of times, be gentle on yourself.

Who was it upthread who said remember how it was when we first went into lockdown? Well I too was eating and drinking far too much and put on 2-3 kilos in the first few weeks. April was an awful month, I’m so glad that is behind us. Some people are doing better than others with the lockdown but I love to socialise and to travel and had to have a long trip abroad to a town I love cancelled so really struggled. It’s nice to know that with boot camp at least we now have control back. She says having just downed a pot of double cream...

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/06/2020 14:19

1.4 down for me and with the 8 and a bit last week, that's almost 10.

Had a socially distanced birthday party for DH at the weekend and no one even noticed me not eating cupcakes and drinking beer. They did comment on the massive amounts of weight everyone has put on in lockdown. DH's best friend now has boobs, which he appears very proud of Hmm

My skin is better this morning, which I attribute to fat. I swear this WOE down't make your skin as dry, baggy and sad as conventional dieting. My nails improve too.

prettybird · 08/06/2020 14:22

I have finally weighed myself (after a 3.7km run Smile) and I can report a 1.25lb loss, which brings my total loss this Boot Camp to just over half a stone Smile I'm now 11 stone, 11.75lb.

Pleased with that Smile - plus the NSV of being able to start using my "smaller" plaited belt, which is now just big enough for my waist Grin

If I can get down to 11st 9lb (or less Wink) by the end of this Boot Camp - recognising that the remaining weeks can often be "stall" weeks, I'll be chuffed. Smile

NigellaAwesome · 08/06/2020 14:33

Hello all,

It's been a good week for me. 5lbs off, and 9 in total. Most importantly, I am now in onederland. Only just, but still in it!

I'm also 1 1/2 stone lighter than I was this time last year Smile

Will catch up with everyone else's progress later, but hope it has been a good week for you all.

Wormthatturned · 08/06/2020 14:37

Hello folks, hope this week goes well for everyone.
I'm pleased I managed to lose a couple more lb despite the following transgressions:
Not done much exercise the last couple of days.
I'm so constipated, despite industrial amounts of veg, that I've had to add bran/linseed mix to my Greek yoghurt. I need loads of fibre usually. Think I'd actually be a stone lighter if I didn't have this problem!!
I cheated and had 4 strawberries, 3 blueberries and a few splodges of unsweetened stewed rhubarb.

  • there endeth my confessions. I will try harder on the exercise this week.
ShagMeRiggins · 08/06/2020 14:50

DH's best friend now has boobs, which he appears very proud of

You do you, DH’s best friend. Shock

Takingontheworld · 08/06/2020 14:54

I was eating a tub of ben and jerrys every 2 days Blush and much more for the first 6 weeks of lockdown 😳

CalendulaAndRoses · 08/06/2020 15:25

sending Flowers to all who are struggling - haven't been around much end of last week as have been emotionally low myself - luckily was able to take some time out and chill which has helped

weighed this am and thrilled with another 4lbs off. Ready for it to potentially stall now though. For those interested in height (which I am too ) I'm 5'6' and currently 143lbs. Definitely still a 12/14 on my bum and thighs and a 10 upstairs. Would be happy if at a consistent and comfortable 12/10 which I should be if i lose another 5-6lbs and keep my stomach bloating under control. That's my biggest problem. I can look literally 9 months pregnant by the end of the day and then my entire wardrobe is out the window and I am stuck wearing XL baggy elastic waisted pants of doom just to avoid serious waist band dig in damage. I think my internal flora and fauna are off and the baddies feast on certain foods, sugars definitely being one of those, and bloat me up. It's been better in bootcamp for sure but still not gone completely. I think my (over generous) portion sizes may have something to do with that too. By the time dinner time comes I want to eat loads, to get me through to 18 hours later!.

ealingwestmum · 08/06/2020 15:29

Hello, been lurking since January, when I stumbled across you all by accident when I attempted Keto but couldn't sustain, and fell naturally into a HFLC way of eating. I thought about joining you several times; was waiting for a support vs boot camp thread but think now is a good time to pass on my heartfelt thanks to you all, and say just how this HAS to be one of the most supportive groups on MN. And has kept me going all this year as a newcomer to Weight Loss Chat with very few in my RL understanding how this all works.

I've never been great at calculating food data (carbs/calories etc), and am now more in maintain weight than lose territory. Was 9st 9lbs and climbing in Nov (peri menopausal, high blood pressure, pre diabetic etc...BAME profile) in a small, 5"4' slim frame. Typical fat/thin person, with circa 45% body fat, even when I was 7.7 stone at 18 years.

Now, apart statins which I have taken for over 25 years, I am still drug free and when lock down restrictions ease on routine stuff, I'll get bloods tested to see what the 'inside' looks like now with a circa 8st 6lbs (give or take).

Whilst my eating habits still fall off the wagon, I know what to do to get back under control.Thank you again, and thinking of those having a tough time. It's worth keeping going...

Patapouf · 08/06/2020 15:32

Hi all, I sort of fell off the thread last week and I think I've suffered for it. I haven't been very motivated or enjoying this WOE, in the run up to AF all I want is sweet things even though I don't enjoy the taste anymore. I haven't fallen off the wagon, but I have not kept on top of my water consumption at all.

I've lost a measly half a pound this week, which I will attribute to AF. Onwards and downwards for next week :)

Takingontheworld · 08/06/2020 15:33

What is the difference between hflc and keto?

PseudoBadger · 08/06/2020 15:35

3lbs off this week. Thinking of everyone having a tough time at the moment. I'm so busy I haven't had a chance to stop!

prettybird · 08/06/2020 15:40

Keto tends to have a lower carb threshold and it doesn't matter where they come from (typically under 20g?) whereas this WoE doesn't encourage carb counting (but typically 50-100g? - I don't count so can't remember Wink), but getting those carbs we do eat from a FLGV Grin

I bought a few Keto cook books earlier this year, but actually have found very few recipes in them that I can use as they tend to use apple purée, honey and sweet potato an awful lot Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/06/2020 15:51

@Takingontheworld

What is the difference between hflc and keto?
And there are different versions of those. There's clean keto (much more like what we do) and dirty/lazy keto, which basically means that you eat what you want, including processed, packaged, shelf stable crap as long as your carbs stay very low. Gross and when people criticise this WOE they are thinking about that.

I am in ketosis (I used sticks) but just doing HFLC and not counting anything.

girlwithgreeneyes · 08/06/2020 16:09

Well done everyone, all sounding really positive. Another loss for me but really struggling with the water when at work as we're now wearing masks all the time. And when I do manage to drink enough I just need to pee, which isn't always possible and my pelvic floor isn't what it once was.But the IF is great, realise breakfast before work in habit rather than need and not hungry in the evenings at all.

lurknolinger · 08/06/2020 16:29

Checking in to report another 3.5lbs lost this week, so half a stone off in 2 weeks which I'm more than happy with. I'll adjust my expectations for the next 2 weeks, would be great to loose a pound a week but will try not to be disappointed if I don't. Will be extra vigilant on making sure I manage my water intake just to give myself the best chance of losing if I can. Well done for all the losses and Thanks for those having hard times.

1WildTeaParty · 08/06/2020 16:41

Donated blood today , and on arrival was offered a very worryingly pink-coloured 'isotonic' drink instead of the usual water. This was before the donation.

There was no other option and suspecting that it was sugary (it looked unappealing too) I became 'that' donor asked for water instead. (This was given but had to come from somewhere behind the scenes and clearly wasn't an expected request.)

The staff just said that it was a 'trial'. Perhaps it has some magical anti-covid measure (added disinfectant as suggested by POTUS perhaps)? Has anyone else come across it?

1WildTeaParty · 08/06/2020 16:45

Distracted from what I meant to say after reading this page while waiting:
well done everyone - your losses and perseverance are very motivating. There are some really brave people on here.
I'm down another lb and a bit :).

Randomfatty · 08/06/2020 16:56

hi all - been busy today on a virtual course and actually felt ok but very thirsty before lunch so have upped the hot water in the mornings. Just finishing off my 'homework' and then will jump on the treadmill for 30mins or so. Courgettini with seabass for dinner, which is yummy! Good to see all the losses - the scales don't seem to be moving much for me but my skin is glowing and Im still bouncing about like tigger with loads of energy! Hope everyone has had a good day!

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 08/06/2020 17:07

Just had a random thrown together tea - celeriac chips, fried aubergine slices and cherry tomatoes, bacon and fried egg.

All I've had the rest of the day is two creamy coffees, and a metric fucktonne of water :)
