Good evening!

Trying to get ahead of everything, as I know tomorrow will be a real rush with people signing up, etc.

Here's the spreadsheet with many thanks to the ever lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for her sterling efforts

It’s interesting to me that that already the message of the benefits of low carbing has been lost somewhat with the muddling of calorie counting into the plan. There won’t be the usual epiphany of ‘wow this really works’, as the initial weight loss will be tied up with strict calorie counting rather than the effects of low carbing.

Glittercandle · 31/05/2020 13:29

I have given up calorie counting, it made this feel like a restrictive diet. Usually bootcamp shows how we can lose weight, feel well and enjoy food without the usual diet restrictions.

Personally am much happier following normal bootcamp though the calorie counting did stop my snacking habit.

PseudoBadger · 31/05/2020 13:39

I agree Glitter, but will be keeping the 16:8

BIWI · 31/05/2020 13:41

@cockneylass

Once the calorie counting has stopped, is there such a thing as too much fat on LCHF?
No! It's actually very hard to eat too much fat as it's so satiating.

But I'm intrigued - what do you have in mind? Grin

That's very true.

However, I suppose as long as the weight has come off, people are getting what they want out of this Bootcamp.

@NumbsMet

I am also interested to know how long is appropriate to continue low calorie low carb

We will always be continuing the low carb, as that's what Bootcamp is about!

But no more calorie counting.

Ninkanink · 31/05/2020 13:47

Yes of course! It doesn’t really matter, I suppose. I have just always felt that the absolute break with the usual tyranny of dieting is the most important part of bootcamp, but that’s probably me being a little too focused on what’s most important to me.

prettybird · 31/05/2020 13:52

@brassicababe - I've sent you a PM Smile

BrassicaBabe · 31/05/2020 14:03

Thanks pretty I'll dig out my laptop.

I'm thinking this thread needs a delivery of new wagons. It sounds like we've had a dodgey batch Grin

7k row done. Garmin says 475 calories which feels a bit of an over reach to be honest

Made 2 massive boxes of coleslaw. One with mayo which the kids will eat and another one made for me using a vinegar/oil/mustard dressing and added coriander to the mix. Only down side is I have absolutely no clue on the calorie front. Couldn't be doing with weighting all of the ingredients then guessing at portion size. Surely it can't be too bad?!

L: said coleslaw with a hot smoked salmon fillet

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 31/05/2020 14:20

This thread moves so fast I can't keep up. I keep flipping the thread and getting confused

Felt a tiny pang of hunger at 12.00 so sat down with DH for lunch. Really enjoyed making it and it was nice to sit peacefully in the sunshine rather than eat standing before rushing onto the next 'to do'.

L Tuna, diced onion and cucumber with 1 tbs mayo. Saved half for tomorrow and had it with crispy salad and some apple cider vinegar.
D I'm doing pork loin in cream and wholegrain mustard sauce with cabbage/broccoli and some new potatoes for the rest of the family.

I had a cup of espresso with a dash of cream and half a lc bar so no more coffee today. I've also discovered that Earl Grey is lovely with unsweetened almond milk so will be drinking that or water.

I did weigh myself today and was astounded but I'm waiting until tomorrow for the final week 1 weigh-in.

Puppermint · 31/05/2020 14:28

I've loved the calorie counting the week. It's been a huge eye opener to me with regard to portion sizes and the balance of carbs, fat and protein.

I'm happy to take that knowledge forward and stop counting but using this week as a guide to keep my portions and macros (is that the right word?) in check.

That said, I didn't count my chicken and mayo salad at lunch cos it was leftovers and too tricky to figure it out Confused

Champagnecharleyismyname · 31/05/2020 15:00

First week almost done and I couldn't resist a stand on the scales this morning, 5.5lbs down so very happy.

I found the first three days really tough and had no energy. Day 4 was like flipping a switch and I felt great and luckily that stayed.

Really inspiring thread and I've copied a lot of what everyone is eating so I haven't had to think much. I'm not much of a cook but I've enjoyed some things I rarely eat.

BIWI · 31/05/2020 15:09

OK so next we'll be moving on to Bootcamp Ordinaire.

This means no counting of calories or carbs

I know that most of you - including me! - will be heartily pleased to hear that. When I devised Bootcamp the whole idea of it was that it would be easy to follow. Weighing and counting is just too much of a faff.

But as long as you follow the rules, you WILL lose weight.

It's also important to stress that Bootcamp is a low carb/high fat plan - it is NOT low calorie

The only reason that I included calorie counting for this one week was to get us refocused on what we're putting on our plates and in our mouths - and help get us back into weight-loss mode. And I'm glad that it has served its purpose for many of us.

Please don't try and make this a low calorie plan - it absolutely isn't about that. You will lose weight by keeping your carbohydrate intake low.

BOOTCAMP ORDINAIRE

Just a reminder that for the next four weeks we will not be eating any of the following:

pasta/noodles
couscous/grains
oats/porridge
cereals/muesli/granola
rice
lentils/legumes/pulses/chickpeas/hummus
peas/beans
bread/pitta/bagels/wraps
potatoes/sweet potatoes
biscuits
cakes
sweets
chocolate
pizza
flour/cornflour
sugar/honey/agave syrup/maple syrup/jam
full-sugar drinks (fizzy drinks/squash/cordials)
balsamic vinegar
fruit juice
fruit (for the next two weeks - you can introduce berries after this)
alcohol (for the next two weeks - you can re-introduce it in moderation after this)
nuts (for the next two weeks)

And here are the rules. I'll post these in full when I start the chat thread for next week, but just as a reminder:

1. Eat three proper meals a day This is usually rule 1, but as we've introduced intermittent fasting I'm suggesting that you continue with this.

  1. Avoid processed foods
  2. Eat lots of fat
  3. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  4. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)
  5. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  6. No alcohol
  7. No fruit
  8. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

For those worried about not calorie counting, I’ve done boot camp this week without counting calories and have lost weight.

I have done 2 previous boot camps and so have an idea of portions. I have followed BIWIs usual rules for the first week, but have added in the extra exercise and have had an eating window of between 10am and 8pm, with 3 meals. I’ve lost 5lbs, so yes it does definitely work without counting calories as many others will also say.

The main thing as BIWI and others will say is that;

  1. You can’t mix it, it must be low carb. As it is a fabulous way to eat but unforgiving
  2. Water, water, water. As Shagmeriggins is fab at reminding us
  3. plan and prep to succeed
anewdispensation · 31/05/2020 15:35

Can I join in please?

BIWI · 31/05/2020 15:46

Of course you can @anewdispensation! Just jump on to the spreadsheet (link in the OP) and put your name at the bottom. The very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready will then make sure it's re-alphabetised.

100% agree.

I’m pleased the counting cal and carb has worked for so many, but the beauty of bootcamp is how it liberates is from all that shite and still works beautifully.

Next week will be interesting.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/05/2020 15:57

Lots of gardening today as my 'exercise', but too hot to finish mowing the lawn of what feels like the surface of the sun (22 degrees).

I'll do some more tomorrow, but am pleased to note we'll be back down to a more seasonable 12 degrees by next weekend Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/05/2020 16:10

I’m pleased the counting cal and carb has worked for so many, but the beauty of bootcamp is how it liberates is from all that shite and still works beautifully.

Also 'cheating'. I've cheated on the calorie counting two days this week, because from a few BCs I know it matters not, as long as I'm doing it because I'm hungry. I haven't cheated on the IF but if I had... it's not an issue, as long as I'm hungry.

But cheating with sugar, bread, pasta. Absolute derail for me. I haven't done it and don't because it does three things; completely stalls weight loss, makes me crave more of everything, and puts me back at the beginning for getting fat adapted. Which means things like my running is harder as I'm not burning fat.

I'll be IF this week and I might vaguely fill in MFP for curiosity but I will be eating butter and I won't be eating bread!

BrassicaBabe · 31/05/2020 17:15

I am currently queuing outside a fish and chip shop waiting to buy goodies for DH and kids. Bollox it's torture already. AND I know there will be leftovers. But my will is strong!

PseudoBadger · 31/05/2020 17:22

Yes I agree that the calorie limit and feeling hungry is far more likely to lead to cheating or off piste moments than our wonderful Bootcamp Ordinaire.

OneFootintheRave · 31/05/2020 17:28

Hi @AthelstaneTheUnready could you add my name to the sheet please and I weighed in at 67KG on Wednesday when I was at the doctors. I'm planning on buying a scales now.

5K power walk today and a short yoga and boxing with weights before so I am tired now.

That picture of a pound of fat was very inspiring! Grin
