an '20 - Week 5 Low Carb Bootcamp - Onwards and downwards!

Welcome to week 5 of the Low Carb Bootcamp; we're nearly halfway through! If you've had a pause in your weight loss during week 3 or week 4, the scales should hopefully be moving again now and you can expect an average weight loss of half a pound to 2 lb each week. Nobody ever gets consistent weight loss from week to week so try not to get hung up on each week's weigh-in, it's the overall trend that we want to look at. If you're a daily weigher then try an app such as Happy Scales or True Weight that uses a rolling daily average to give you a more accurate record of your weight loss.

Add today's weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. And here's to another great week...
Onwards and downwards!

@BrassicaBabe really impressed you swerved the donuts. I bloody love donuts

Teapotdespot · 11/02/2020 16:47

Back on the road today, and today’s meeting catering delight included cold KFC style fried chicken Envy (not envy)

I had a solitary grim chicken fillet for lunch which was fine, because I had a large coffee with cream from Costa on the drive down and a big pork belly meal last night, so I’m not suffering.

I’m feeling really sick today, I’ve been feeling sick since my night out drinking on Saturday night Blush are 4 day hangovers a thing on this WOE or am I particularly blessed?

ShagMeRiggins · 11/02/2020 17:03

Geez, what a day. Home now and sitting down to have my first food before dashing out again in 45 minutes---too much work to do so no time to cook, prawns slathered in Benedicta mayo it is, then!

@Harveywoo, I'm another who hopes you have a change of heart and decide to stay.

For one thing, I'd miss your contributions. And I haven't said that to other posters over the years who have decided to bow out from Bootcamp for similar reasons. Not by a long shot, so it's sincere.

I have other reasons but you'll have to come back to hear them. ;-)

Even if you do decide to stay off this thread, I hope you continue with this way of eating. You've sung its praises and you've lost a stone in a month. I'll say that again, you've lost a stone in a month, without deprivation and enjoying your meals. I don't know how many weight-loss programmes work this way.

If you pursue this way of eating but choose not to participate on the thread, please consider lurking. You've done so well and you will still get sooooo many ideas and wonderful recipes and knowledge along the way.

I've been doing this three years and I didn't know either that apples were in the Red Zone!

ShagMeRiggins · 11/02/2020 17:06

Teapot hangovers can be killer anyway and can be particularly brutal with this way of eating because (I think) we don't "sop up the alcohol" with carbs. I've read StuntNun's explanation of this in past Bootcamps but can't remember--it's actually nothing to do with that myth, it's much more scientific and sensible.

Anyway, it also doesn't sound like you've had opportunity for the best meal choices today so I'd guess that's a contributing factor.

Drink your water. ;-)

DiscontentedWoman · 11/02/2020 17:11

4 day hangovers with existential dread come with old age @Teapot Grin

Teapotdespot · 11/02/2020 17:27

@DiscontentedWoman I’m 29 now and possibly just beginning to feel, if not ‘aged’, at least partially fermented Grin

TheClitterati · 11/02/2020 17:48

StuntNun thanks for the recommendation - but thankfully it's not a scar as such - it's a big bump. I'm guessing it's damaged/scarred internally (just under the knee) but the skin itself is undamaged. It does still look a bit crap and I've had it over 24 years! Time flies!

Almahart · 11/02/2020 18:12

An on track day.

Total ff yoghurt for breakfast
An M&S curry and ff yog for lunch
Terrible dinner just now of cheese and salami in car

But at least all bc though I may have had too much yoghurt

Rayna37 · 11/02/2020 18:14

I am so bloody cross with myself! The bolognese I defrosted and was looking forward to turned out to be two beautiful rib eyes from the butcher I froze at the weekend. They were even labelled Angry
The problem with careful meal planning and keeping so much meat/fish in the freezer is The was nothing else ready planned for another night to swap to. I'd got steak in the fridge ready for Friday too!
Threw together a Thai style curry using a can of coconut milk, lots of veg and frozen cauli rice and it's quite nice actually. Must remember to buy some Thai curry paste though, that would have helped! Used two red chillis from the freezer and it's hot hot hot!
Thinking of whichever of you defrosted the wrong Christmas "ham" Grin

DiscontentedWoman · 11/02/2020 18:15

Which curry @Almahart? I had a lush prawn one last time - one I'd not seen before an it was delicious.

prettybird · 11/02/2020 18:21

BBC news: "Farmers want to ensure that they aren't hit with unfair restrictions"

....at the same time that Gove himself is saying that there will be Border checks.

It's a bit fucking late to realise that ShockConfusedAngry

prettybird · 11/02/2020 18:21

Oops - wrong thread Blush

TheClitterati · 11/02/2020 18:38

I really fancy a curry - there's a butter chicken recipe in the other thread I think!

CheddarGorgeous · 11/02/2020 19:24

My tactic for avoiding evening snacking: brushing my teeth at 7.30pm.

You had me creasing at “labelled”

Sympathies, Rayna. And while you’ve managed to get Clitterati salivating over curry, I’m now hankering for bolognese.

BrassicaBabe · 11/02/2020 20:33

I survived the day. 9 hours locked in a meeting room and I'm still ready to climb the walls!

L: Buffet lunch was lots and lots of cheese. A cheddar type and feta squares. Some chicken skewers and some meat ball type things.
D: steak and buttered veg with side of coleslaw.
I have a feeling there were hidden carbs today. Hmm

No wine even though I deserve it. Back at hotel now, in bed with Netflix. My happy place GrinSmile

^Brassica* I admire your determination for a first—no alcohol on a business trip.

Way to go, @BrassicaBabe! Grin

Notlostjustexploring · 11/02/2020 20:58

Stuntnun, I hope you keep feeling better. And cracking nsv prettybird!

I'm sneaking back on the thread, having not been on since week one...Blush I'm also back because I absolutely love reading about everyone's NSVs. Even when I'm being a bit shit about following the rules, reading about what lies in wait, or how well others are doing is always a lift.

My mitigating circumstances are a combination of sick me, sick kids, hectic work plus overtime topped off with a jacked in (now fixed) washing machine. I was struggling from a serious lack of hours in the day!! I've slipped a bit from bootcamp, out of self preservation, once my freezer stash ran out, I've been eating lunch in the canteen last week so I didn't go mad trying to do one more thing. However that seems to have been balanced out by the fact I've not been snacking and my go to "can't be arsed" meal, of which there has been a lot recently, is scrambled eggs means I have lost weight since I last weighed in!!!! 5.5 overall since the start, which considering my recent transgressions, I'll take. I'm now tantalisingly close to breaking into the 12 stone bracket.

Can I just say, whichever good soul discovered sliced broccoli stalks roasted in olive oil and salt....bloody hell they're good. I was dubious, I admit, but they're really good!!!

I'm now going to catch up on the 3 previous threads that I've not had a chance to read!!!!

Almahart · 11/02/2020 21:08

@DiscontentedWoman it was a chicken one with spinach I think. I know the prawn one you mean, it’s lush. I stand in M&S with my reading glasses squinting at all the nutritional info

Exitstrategist · 11/02/2020 21:20

Hey- speaking of booze!!!! Does anyone else’s face get totally flushed after a couple of drinks on this WOE? Never happened me before! What’s the science??

sheepysheep · 11/02/2020 21:53

Does anyone else find that their fingers swell up in response to carbs? Mine go quite puffy and it happens really quickly. If I’ve been good my rings feel really loose; if I’ve eaten (unwittingly or knowingly) carbs during the day then they are almost uncomfortably tight.... I’ve just had to have one resized as it was two sizes too big!

ShagMeRiggins · 11/02/2020 21:54

Notlost great loss for someone struggling to plan. Better than mine! Grin

I must try these broccoli stalks...

venusandmars · 11/02/2020 22:45

On holiday in a warm southern Mediterranean place... Struggling a bit with menu choice and language.

Breakfast, all good, lots of choice from cheese, hams, guacamole, eggs. Totally ignore the mountains of cake and pastries.

L today, almost made a mistake. Ordered a 'deliciosa' salad, the waiter said: lovely, lots of fruit... so I ordered the other salad which had tuna, egg, avocado, asparagus (I left the beetroot and sweetcorn). Dh opted for my original 'deliciosa' choice, it came with tinned peaches, tinned pineapple, fresh mango, strawberries, orange, plus all the tomato, lettuce, cucumber and olives that were in my salad. Narrow escape!!

D - ordered salad with octopus and langoustines. Went to the kitchen, pointed at what I wanted. Delivered to the table was an octupus salad and a plate of anchovies (all good, lots of oils, no carbs, plus it was delicious). Then a plate of prawns in tomato sauce, with bread. Then the 'salad' which was mashed potatoes, chopped egg, chopped octupus and prawns.

Bizzare!!

ShagMeRiggins · 11/02/2020 23:04

venus I don’t know where you are but the good sounds...fun...and please download a free translation app for the basic words when reading a menu.

Well done. Enjoy. WATER!!
