Jan '20 - Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Ready for Bootcamp Light?

Welcome to the third week of Low Carb Bootcamp. As always, log your weigh-in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. If you're happy with Bootcamp then you can choose to stick with it. Or if you want to relax a little and incorporate some fruit, nuts/seeds and dark chocolate then check out the Bootcamp Light rule changes on this thread and in the next post. Or you can do a hybrid: Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

It's really common for weight loss to stop briefly around weeks 3-5, some people even gain a little weight. Google "week 3 stall" and you will see post after post from people on Atkins, Fast800, keto, after bariatric surgery all asking why they haven't lost weight this week. The simple answer is that you are losing fat but retaining water. The stall will last a week or two and then your weight loss will resume its bumpy path downwards.

I've attached a typical weight loss graph which shows a brief stall at week 4. As you can see, weight loss is not linear; it varies from week to week but the overall trend (shown by the black line) is ever downwards hence our saying that "the trend is your friend." If you follow the rules you can expect an average weight loss of 0.5 to 2lb per week.

Hallo! Jumping in late after boot camping until last September. I’ve got Christmas weight to lose.

Really looking forward to getting back to it. Made aubergine parmigiana and cauliflower cheese last night in preparation and have a big online shop on the way. I’d like to be a bit more veggie this bc.

Bf will be ff yog with frozen raspberries
Lunch a salad (eating out)
Dinner steak with avocado and big green salad (found this in the freezer from last bc!)

Notwatchingtvtoday · 27/01/2020 08:29

I very sorry about your dad pink be kind and gentle with yourself.

2.5lbs off for me this week, which I am delighted with, I think drinking 3 litres of water a day has definitely helped me to curb my snacking.

A NSV for everyone, every 1 lb you loose is the equivalent of 2lbs on your knees when you go up and down stairs according to my lovely knee consultant. So if you are having knee problems it is an extra incentive to loose. Another NSV for me is that I have stopped snoring 😴.

Food for today
B total Greek yogurt, Tsp each of Linwoods, cream and frozen crumbled raspberries
L Avocado and eggs
D stir fry chicken with cabbage and other veg

3 litres water

Teapotdespot · 27/01/2020 08:31

Hi all,

Well, 4.4lbs have gone back on last week Sad

I’ve stuck to bootcamp religiously, but It was week 3 for me and AF arrived unexpectedly early, so I’m not panicking just yet.

Onwards and downwards hopefully?

Twit · 27/01/2020 08:32

Hellooooo!
I had a successful week with my food and water (ie no cheating) and also stopped ovulating Hmm and am now in the 11's!!
Woohoo! Grin

I can vouch for the stall, I've done my own very rough line chart, and although it doesn't show the weight I gain when I ovulate Hmm very clearly, it does show a dramatic loss during week 4. (During week 3 I gained and lost about 4lbs)

Week 3 is often tricky for me, so I'm staying on bootcamp at least until the weekend. This is my second bootcamp in a row, so I'm expecting my loss to be slow but, hopefully steady. although if my body prefers to be dramatic and lose it more quickly I'm fine with that too, just saying
KOKO, losers!

Sorry to hear of your loss @PinkSubscriber💐

Lost a pound 😀

Down to 11-03

Just want to lose another 5lb and I’ll be on target

venusandmars · 27/01/2020 08:40

Lost 0.1 of a pound! Not enough water.

B - creamy coffee, boiled egg
L - avocado, sardines, salad
D - vegetable curry

HouseTornado · 27/01/2020 08:42

Thanks, StuntNun - great advice! Well done everyone wherever you are.

2 off for me, so 7 in total. Finding BC easy enough, so sticking with it for now.

Away overnight tomorrow for work with one evening meal to think about - the rest of the time I can rely on snacks, but FGLV may take a hit for 24 hours. I'll work it out!

BIWI · 27/01/2020 08:59

Back on the wagon for me, starting today. Have various meals prepped in the freezer, but tonight we'll be having roast chicken. It will be roasted on a bed of celeriac, shallots and chorizo, and seasoned with smoked paprika, olive oil and lemon. Adapted from a recipe in this month's Olive magazine. The recipe calls for potato and onion to be used, and gives the carb count as 22.1g per person, so using celeriac and shallot will easily cut that right down.

TheClitterati · 27/01/2020 09:06

Well after extraordinarily massive loss last week, it's no surprise that I have a bit of a gain this week Even though I've followed it very well and did the same as I did the previous week really.

It's looking I've gained back more than half of what I "lost" last week. I don't know what's up - I'm not having much faith in my scales. A bit confused.

But I'm gonna keep on keeping on doing what I'm doing - I've got about 6 cm off my waist and my pain levels for tendonitis are down so it's all good.

I dd some gentle exercise 6 out of seven days last week and I'm just off to the gym now.

I've started skin brushing this morning. I used to do this years ago and I think it's a good idea to help keep your skin in good condition as you lose weight so that felt really nice doing it this morning.

ShagMeRiggins · 27/01/2020 09:07

Very sorry to hear of your loss Pink

I’ve added everyone’s weight who requested it.

I haven’t weighed this morning and already two pints of water in, crappy morning, will weigh in tomorrow.

DRINK ALL THE WATER BOOTCAMPERS!

TheClitterati · 27/01/2020 09:09

Teapot I see you've had similar experience with big loss followed by a gain.

I've only been weighing once a week. I wonder if I would be better Off weighing myself every day? So that the changes don't come is so much of a surprise.

Actually one of the things I struggle with the most if I'm trying to lose weight is the numbers game and how it can affect me most emotionally and mentally. It's a big focus for me not to let that happen while I'm doing this way of eating.

Teapotdespot · 27/01/2020 09:36

@TheClitterati I did indeed have a big loss followed by a gain, annoying as hell but knowing about the week 3 stall helped me to rationalise it and not drown my sorrows in pizza BlushGrin

I just keep reminding myself how much better I feel generally and the fact I ovulated, that alone is reason enough to carry on even if I didn’t lose another pound ever Smile

NumbersStation · 27/01/2020 09:55

pink Flowers

@AthelstaneTheUnready - please could you put me down for 2.5 lb loss?

Only another 87 odd to go Blush

Thank you Smile

absopugginglutely · 27/01/2020 10:03

Good morning all! Soo pleased to say that I’m now 10st 2lbs (goal=10stone)
I’ve been drinking loads of water this week. I started in October at over 11.5 stone so I’m really chuffed because it hasn’t felt like a massive effort.
Well done everyone for losses and KOKO!
Ps My weight stalled for 4 bloody weeks when I started this so please KOKO!
And water water water Water!!

Summery1 · 27/01/2020 10:09

@PinkSubscriber Flowers

I'm up .8lb.
I haven't drank enough water - it's a struggle in the cold weather.
Also yesterday was a disaster, food wise. 100% due to disorganization.
My tri club had a training day. 8AM in the pool for a 5k swim. I went with NO breakfast. Then a 2 hour cycle. I ate an energy bar. I also hadn't warm enough clothes as I usually only cycle in the Summer. I decided to skip the run Hmm and came home weak and cold!! I had a bath and went to bed for an hour and then ate rubbish for the evening!!

My weight this week has been 155 and 159lbs so I'm recording the 157.6 that's there now.
I'm going to a bit of Lite, as losing isn't exactly my goal. All of my size 12s fit, but I'd like to be closer to 150lbs for the Summer. But as this is long term I'd like the nutrition of a little berries, nuts and seeds.
If I don't lose this week, it'll be back to heavy duty BC. Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 27/01/2020 10:35

Only another 87 odd to go

I was there, NumbersStation — now it’s only another 38 to go. KOKO.

Clitterati would giving yourself lots of numbers help with that focus? So in addition to the scales, use your measurement numbers. Also use pounds, kilos, and stones to mix it up. Also think about number of glasses of water you’ve succeeded with each day. Or maybe calculate the total ml of water you’ve drink since start of Bootcamp! There’s also blood pressure and cholesterol numbers that can be played with...

I’m sure others can think of more, but my point is in a day when the scale number is making you unhappy or causing a distraction, play with other numbers until one gives you peace.

I’m not a numbers person and also couldn’t tell you the calorie count of a single item of food, but I love in a household of mathematical types (lucky me Hmm) and one thing I’ve learned is there are many, many ways to look at numbers.

ShagMeRiggins · 27/01/2020 10:36

I really should get back in the habit of previewing my posts.

NumbersStation · 27/01/2020 10:52

@ShagMeRiggins

Well done!!! Flowers. You shall be my inspiration Smile

ShagMeRiggins · 27/01/2020 10:55

Aw thanks, but others have lost more and much, much faster than I have! Grin

CheddarGorgeous · 27/01/2020 11:00

I am back up to 128.3 from a low of 127. Entirely my own stupid fault.

I'm in a bit of a mess today. Hardly slept at all and have horrendous back pain for no apparent reason. Got up at 7 but had to cancel my first meetings and go back to bed. Headed into work late planning to get breakfast in the canteen but they stopped serving before I got there so now I'm eating two boiled eggs I had planned for lunch/snacks and I have no other food with me.

I have a huge presentation to do at 2 and I don't know if I'll make it to then.

LazydaysofSummer · 27/01/2020 11:05

Been quietly lurking and weighing, thanks Stunt Nun for running this.

In terms of the week 3 stall I just want to encourage everyone to take some measurements as even though the weight might not move the inches could still disappear!

When I first got up this mornig and looked in the mirror as wasn't looking forward to getting on the scales as my belly looked bigger than ever! Turns out over the last two weeks I've lost two inches off my bust, hips and belly (I always measure the widest part, mid way between waist and hIps!) but four inches of my waist! So in the short term my belly looks bigger as the belly to waist ratio has incresaed slightly, but in fact it's all reducing, and I'm getting a waist back!

Measuremnets are always a great NSV!!

TheClitterati · 27/01/2020 11:10

ShagMe that is a really great way of approaching this and it may be of use - thanks so much.

What I am really enjoying this WOE is the lack of cravings and the way my brain isn't obsessing about food etc all the time. I am pretty calm & deal with food when I need to but otherwise OK. Its not sucking up all my mental space.

Just had lovely workout & feel OK about the weird numbers/scales this week.

I did stop all sugar, processed carbs, and most carbs the week before I started BC, so my body might think its in W3?? Who knows. I know my weight has fluctuated wildly in the past, so I'm thinking my graph is going to be fairly funky & that is OK.

I'm going to keep on with what I'm doing for now and maybe befuddle my brain with lots of different numbers :)

NellNorth · 27/01/2020 11:11

So sorry to hear that pink, commiserations x
I’ve been MIA from the thread, because pesky real life is bombarding me with stress and upset and money problems.
I struggled to eat in general, as my appetite disappears with stress, but I stuck to LC, with the small amount of food I did eat, and I’m another 2lbs down, bringing me to 11 8.2.
I didn’t drink nearly enough water, as I was in and out of hospitals (with DC),and was just out of routine for the past week. I’m back on the water with a vengeance this week.
I’m going to get a length of ribbon and cut it to my exact waist measurement today, to see me through the stall that may come in the next few weeks.
Our family business is really struggling with the negative effects of Brexit, so getting back into all my clothes that no longer fit, is a really good motivation, as I can’t afford to go shopping!
Maybe I’m just a shallow idiot, but amidst all the chaos in my life right now, I like that my tummy is flattening, and my arse is a little less sizeable! I’m too old (47), to view a big booty as a positive!

absopugginglutely · 27/01/2020 11:32

So sorry pink I can’t imagine how hard it must be.
Flowers

ilovecherries · 27/01/2020 11:32

pink, this must have been a very difficult month for you. I count still standing as a win.

I’m just over a lb down today - was two on Saturday so I’m def heading in the right direction as my ‘bounce around’ weight is reducing. It’s not a lot, but I’m happy with it and if I continue at a similar rate I will be back at my happy weight by the end of bootcamp. IBS has completely gone again, having made a guest appearance over Xmas, carby cravings have gone, so basically just normal service has been resumed, and I won’t be going off piste again!
