Jan '20 - Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp - How did you do?

We've already seen some fab results, especially from those who started early. We do expect a big variation in the first weigh in. Some of you will have lost several pounds, some a more modest loss. Others won't have lost anything yet either because some healing is needed before weight loss begins in earnest, or because they didn't quite manage to stick to the rules during the first week.

So please check in with us to reflect on how your first week has gone. Try not to compare yourself to others because weight loss is a very individual thing. If you have any concerns about your progress then please do ask. We have had thousands of people through Bootcamp so make use of that collective experience.

Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or tag the rather wonderful ShagMeRiggins with your weigh-in if you can't access the spreadsheet yourself. If you're only just starting then please tag the very lovely AthelstaneTheUnready to be added to the spreadsheet. And to anybody that suspected they couldn't lose weight while eating lots of lovely food, and without feeling hungry... I hope you enjoyed being proved wrong!

Mimosa1 · 20/01/2020 19:03

Oh @doilooklikeatourist that looks delicious!

Happy birthday @harveywoo

I have an odd box fruit and veg delivery. I'm going to try making the kale chips and a stir fry with some Hispi cabbage. Will report back I also have been sent a massive Hubbard squash if anyone has any ideas! 10g/100 so not BC but will feed it to the children

1wilma1 · 20/01/2020 19:05

I lost 4lb in the first week which I'm over the moon with as I'm
Only 5'2" and am usually a slow loser on any other diet I've tried. My husband has been following this WOE with me and lost 6lb.
I'll be honest and admit I've found the first week really hard, I feel a bit sick all the time and don't look forward to my meals at all, everything is just too salty or rich without something sweet to balance it out. I have a sweet tooth and cutting out sugar so drastically has been tough.
Please tell me this sicky feeling will pass.
It hasn't all been bad though, I don't have a single spot on my face which is unheard of for me, and my eczema is clearing up a treat, My face and hands don't feel as puffy either. I just wish I could look forward to and enjoy my food again.

SpeckledDot · 20/01/2020 19:20

Congrats on the losses everyone :)

B: 2 babybel, 1 mini peperami, 2 boiled eggs and 2 coffees
L: chargrilled chicken salad and greek yogurt with blueberries (light)
D: 2 salmon fillets with FLGS (salad) and cauliflower rice
S: mature cheddar cheese sticks (2) and a bit of mattesons sausage

I feel as if I've eaten loads today

Hagbeth · 20/01/2020 19:42

@Notwatchingtvtoday Thanks will try your suggestions. Smile

B: Creamed coffee
L: Cauliflowers, Chicken, Cram, Stilton, Parmesan and Tomato
D: Creamed Coffee

Hagbeth · 20/01/2020 19:43

Cream, not Cram

AthelstaneTheUnready · 20/01/2020 19:59

I'm with you, Rayna! I did the broccoli stalk thing at the weekend, and they were fab.

Thank you Stunt Flowers

DoILook, that looks like a PERFECT dinner. I want one. Could you add an idiot's guide to the fish thread?

Wilma, it will pass. Honest. But list what meals you've been having and someone might be able to point out an easy fix?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 20/01/2020 20:01

No gold star for me today - I did a LOT of energetic stuff yesterday which always trashes my appetite, so:

B: creamy coffee
L: some pate
D: bowl of buttered broccoli with parmesan and an egg

Heston Blumenthal it ain't. Hmm

NoOneCaresInRealLife · 20/01/2020 20:09

Hello peeps,
Just 1lbs off for me, if someone could put it on the spreadsheet for me please.
B. Boiled egg x 2, mayo, butter
L. Rashers x 4, celery , lettuce, cucumber and mayo
D. 2 chick thighs skin on, fried courgette
Snacks- corn beef cubes, full fat greek yogurt mixed with double cream and 20g blueberries

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/01/2020 20:12

@NellNorth, my 4 th Bootcamp too

@Mimosa1it was delicious , there’s a bit left for my lunch tomorrow

@Athelstane , I’ll put the recipe on the fish thread, I adapted it from diet doctor , so can’t take all the praise

1wilma1 · 20/01/2020 20:27

@athelstane On day 1 I tried having boiled eggs with butter for breakfast but couldn't stomach it, I've never been much of a breakfast person so I had cream coffee instead for the rest of the week. Lunch tends to be a salad with tuna or salmon and mayonnaise or celeriac soup (Delish! The one thing I look forward too)
Dinner has been sage and onion pork with cauliflower and broccoli smothered in butter, oriental pork cabbage rolls, cottage pie, chicken foo yung. Occasional snacks have been pork scratchings, olives, cheese and pickled onions.

I'm wondering if it's dairy that's making me feel ill, I've eaten a lot more than I'm used to? If the sickness doesn't pass after the second week I'll experiment by cutting out cream and cheese.

Zxyzoey31 · 20/01/2020 20:40

1wilma1 pickled onions (and pickled things in general) are usually really high in sugar. Did you check the label?

1wilma1 · 20/01/2020 20:46

@Zxyzoey31 they are the little silverskin ones and I only had about 20 over the whole week, the label says 0.8g of carbs per 30g so I hope that's ok

TheClitterati · 20/01/2020 20:53

Super busy day today so all a bit rushed;

Creamy coffee
Nice swim.
B 2fried eggs with lots of spinach and dribble of leftover cream.
L first ever )Pan fried) chuffle
D rib eye steak, fried shallot, cod, avocado, broccoli

Hit water target drinking loads of herbal teas.

Cooked some chicken thighs so I have cold chicken ready for lunches during the week.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 20/01/2020 20:55

Thanks DoILook! I'm rubbish without instructions, so really appreciate it.

Wilma, @StuntNun is the real expert here, but I'd say if breakfast makes you queasy, and you don't need it, don't do it.

As for the too rich problem, you could always have some of the more bitter veg (sprouts, broccoli, cabbage) cooked with a bit of lemon juice rather than butter - then that would balance out the fat in the rest of the meal? You've lost a fantastic amount for the first week, so it's obviously working, you just need to fiddle with amounts a bit. I LOVE my creamy coffee, but I do find if I get a bit enthusiastic and put too much in, I get a bit queasy, so perhaps you're just being a bit generous with portions of 'added' fat?

sheepysheep · 20/01/2020 21:08

Well done everybody :-)

I’ve just completed week three and am a bit gutted to have gained 3lb. @Hagbeth sadly I agree with you and think perhaps excess creamy coffee may be the culprit. It’s so lush but it seems to be our nemesis! I’m going to try making coffee with coconut oil in the blender as a substitute.... but will still drink creamy coffee when out and about as it’s a nice treat

Zxyzoey31 · 20/01/2020 21:15

1wilma1 if that is all they are it doesn't sound like a problem. I once checked all pickled onions and cucumbers on ocado and in sainsburys and they were all really high carb. It is good to know some aren't.

TheClitterati · 20/01/2020 21:28

I have some polish pickles from Morrison's that have no sugar and are low carb

Lionsleepstonight · 20/01/2020 21:34

@StuntNun how does week two pan out for weight loss. Does it start to slow down? I'm not expecting such a great drop again, and would like to manage my expectations.

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 21:44

Lion I would expect week 2 weight loss to be 1-2lb. It does depend on how much you have to lose though so some may lose as much as 3lb.

I hope today is much better EI2EI Thanks

Great news on the weight loss Motherofdragons and good luck with the running tomorrow.

How was cake-gate Harvey did you get away with just a tiny piece?

Well done Wilma it sounds like you're a bit carb-fluey and I'm sure you'll feel much better in a few days. Remember, fat-adaption is a big change for your body but it's worth it in the end. Sometimes increasing your fat intake suddenly can make you feel queasy until you get used to it, so it's more likely to be that than the dairy.

1lb loss is still good NoOne have you noticed much reduction in your appetite yet?

Oh no Sheepy that's demoralising. It could largely be water retention as you're in week 3. Stay on plan and, as you say, maybe cut down the frequency of dairy throughout the day.
