Jan '20 - Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp - How did you do?

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 05:22

We've already seen some fab results, especially from those who started early. We do expect a big variation in the first weigh in. Some of you will have lost several pounds, some a more modest loss. Others won't have lost anything yet either because some healing is needed before weight loss begins in earnest, or because they didn't quite manage to stick to the rules during the first week.

So please check in with us to reflect on how your first week has gone. Try not to compare yourself to others because weight loss is a very individual thing. If you have any concerns about your progress then please do ask. We have had thousands of people through Bootcamp so make use of that collective experience.

Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or tag the rather wonderful ShagMeRiggins with your weigh-in if you can't access the spreadsheet yourself. If you're only just starting then please tag the very lovely AthelstaneTheUnready to be added to the spreadsheet. And to anybody that suspected they couldn't lose weight while eating lots of lovely food, and without feeling hungry... I hope you enjoyed being proved wrong!

@TheClitterati found mine in Aldi!

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 13:21

HouseTornado lemon or lime slices are good or why not try cucumber or strawberry slices in cold water or a combination of the above.

18lb is very unusual Clitterati what a great start to your weight loss journey. Keep on doing what you've been doing as it's clearly working but maybe don't expect another 18lb off next week! On the IBS front mine is completely gone on this way of eating.

1stMrs, Prettybird and Summery you may only have small losses to report but it's still a step in the right direction. The only way is down!

Summery butternut squash is too carby, I didn't see who had that. Also guys, watch out for sweet potatoes which are actually carbier than potatoes. Sweet potato fries have become a healthy option on menus lately but should be avoided. Sausages are allowed but check the meat content and aim for 95% up. Marks and Spencer do 97% pork sausages and chipolatas that are often on offer. And if you're in Marks check out their low carb pizzas in the fresh burger section. They have a pork mince base and are lush and very filling but cost £££.

Super chuffed as I have hit my first milestone which was to get under 12st! And I have cheated a bit with booze Blush so delighted with progress. Finding it easy so far and excited to keep going!

Onlyaprawn · 20/01/2020 13:32

Hi all
I didn't post last week but will try to do better as I find everyone's messages really helpful and motivating. 5 pounds off for me which I'm very happy with. Today's food

B: breakfast muffin with smoked salmon
L: mackerel pate with celery (an Amelia Freer recipe with ginger and chilli)
T: Salmon with cheesy creamy leeks.

Good luck to everyone this week.

HouseTornado · 20/01/2020 13:35

StuntNun thank you!

NellNorth · 20/01/2020 13:41

4 lbs down for me- delighted!!
According to the records I have on my phone, this is my 4th Bootcamp, and it’s my biggest week 1 loss.
Unfortunately I’m not actually getting progressively lighter, as I am alway losing the same 10 pounds.( bangs head)
Today’s weigh in brings me to 11.10, which means I’m just scraping into a BMI of 25, so I’m no longer classed as over weight- go me!!
Short term aim - get below 11.7, as my c section over hang/ pouch of fat is protruding at the moment, in a very unflattering manner.

Medium term- get to 11.3, which means I can get back into my size 12s, which are all my nice clothes!
Long term - stay just under 11 stone, and stop gaining and losing the same sodding stone of fat!!!

Things that have helped me this last week

  1. I drank all the water- a stalk of fresh mint in a mug of boiling water makes the BEST mint tea.
  2. I didn’t have any booze
  3. Broccoli and leek soup makes me poo, so I guzzled that anytime I felt bagged up
  4. I didn’t cheat, ever
  5. I only ate veg from the green list, and ate lots of it
  6. I didn’t over eat cheese- used butter to cook veg, but did significantly less sprinkling of grated cheese over all the veg.
Twit · 20/01/2020 13:42

Hi all, congratulations on all the losses!

Yesterday I finally broke into the 11s, but this morning I'm back at 12.0st. Grrr.
But I'm ovulating and hopefully I won't go any higher as I'm being extra vigilant with my food and water.

Today I'm eating...
B. Tea & ham and cheese
Bulletproof coffee and pork scratchings
D. Broccoli and stilton soup with smoked salmon
T. Curried chicken and spinach

3/4 litres of water- I've already had 2. Yay!

KOKO, losers!

TheClitterati · 20/01/2020 13:54

StuntNun last October I ate meat and vegetables for a month (Gut diet) and I lost no weight whatsoever, though my gut/IBS improved. I was shocked not to lose any weight - it wasn't the purpose of the diet but it would have been nice especially as I was 18 stone so had plent to lose, plus I was exercising.

This WOE is not that different from the gut diet, but no fruit and lots of fat - as I haven't lost any weight for over 2 years, I was very skepical a week ago. But it is very clear to me now just how important the fat is to the WOE when I compare to last October.

But yes I am manageing my expectations re next weeks results :)

venusandmars · 20/01/2020 14:33

Lost 1.7 pounds. Happy about that as I'm a longer term lc-er and close to target. I'm another wee short arse with a small frame, so excess weight doesn't sit easily on me sits like a football on my tummy

Short term goal: back under 9st (2 lb to go)
Boot camp goal 8.5 stone I just grazed this weight last summer but bounced back up, so it might not be healthily achievable / sustainable
Long term goal: sticking under 9st - it's where I feel comfortable and active

prettybird · 20/01/2020 14:56

I misremembered what I'd logged last week and also did myself short this morning as I was actually 11st 7.25lb (not 7.5lb). So I've actually lost 1.5lb Smile (2.25lb if I take yesterday's weight Wink).

I'm still dead chuffed as that's 8lb since I started 2 weeks ago! It just goes to show how glycogen stores suck up the carbs (and water) when you fall off the wagon - but it also demonstrates that as long as you don't leave it too long, they can also whoosh out quickly Grin (Caveat: as long as you follow The Rules and. drink. plenty. of. water. Halo)

absopugginglutely · 20/01/2020 15:31

Well done everyone!
I have been doing this LCHF WOE since just before last boot camp and because I’ve got relatively little to lose to get to ten stone I have been a bit disorganised. I haven’t done the strict start although no fruit, nuts, seeds or sugar and have been keeping up with water and only eating foods that are under 5g/ml carbs per 100 etc I have eaten Moser Roth 85% chocolate bars on and off (4.6 g carbs per mini bar)
I’m having a bad period with low mood ( think it’s partly due to winter blues) so feeling a bit blah.
Anyway KOKO!

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 15:39

Well done Nux, Onlyaprawn, Nell and Venus.

I was a bit disorganised today so brunch was leftover lamb, two cold boiled eggs with mayo and some cheese. Blush Hopefully my dinner will improve things: two quarterpounder burgers with a big salad dressed with vinaigrette, maybe some coleslaw on the side.

4 lbs down. Very happy as that’s half a stone in a fortnight. So half a stone off my dodgy knee.
Good luck all

CheddarGorgeous · 20/01/2020 16:09

I've lost count of my water consumption today - I think I'm up to at least 3 litres and I'll drink at least one more. I think this has been the biggest habit change for me and I'm really loving it.

MasterFlamingo · 20/01/2020 16:15

3lbs off for me. I'm particularly pleased as this is week 3 for me, having started on 1st Jan. I'm also relieved as I had a family celebration at the weekend at a Chinese restaurant which was a carb minefield. I ordered the Thai green curry (it was a weird menu) which had a very thick sauce which must have had cornflour or something in it. Anyhow I seem to have remained unscathed, probably helped by the 40th party I went to later than evening where I drank 4 pints of water.

Really enjoying this WOE and reading everyone's delicious menus. Thanks to stuntnun, Athelstan and Shagme.

MasterFlamingo · 20/01/2020 16:21

I found a celeriac in Sainsbury's TheClitterati. I diced mine and roasted it in coconut oil - delicious!

RobinHobb · 20/01/2020 16:29

Ok. I fell off band wagon.
@StuntNun I know you told me so. I had two glasses of prosecco and all will power vanished along with the "it's my birthday! Why can't I have a chip!" And it all went down hill from there.

But that was Saturday. Pulled myself together on Sunday morning, and being very strict today. Am treating this as going back to day 1 of boot camp.

Argh! I was doing so well too...

Mandelinka · 20/01/2020 16:35

Checking in.
2lb down, ( Friday weigh in was close to 4lbs down but never mind). I usually average 1lb per week so I’m happy.
I am a slow but steady looser when I stick to the plan, usually 1lb every 6-8 days.

Sneaky TOM arrived unexpectedly couple of days ago, about 6 days too early and just really light, this is most likely down to change in my diet.

I made some 24 hr chicken bone broth over the weekend, had some of it with a dropped egg for breakfast, just delicious.
I don’t make it often as DH complains about the smell so always collect chicken carcasses in the freezer and wait for him to be away for few days to do my witchy cooking Grin

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 16:56

Fab work Tenement, Flamingo and Mandelinka.

Don't beat yourself up about it Robin it happens to all of us. It's great that you got straight back on track so that will limit the damage. Also please use this as a learning opportunity so that you're better prepared for similar occasions in the future.

Please can anyone tell me what I could eat when I’ve got a sweet craving.? I’ve got jelly here. I find this time of the evening up until 9pm the hardest part of the day control wise. It’s literally on my mind all night thinking about chocolate.

prettybird · 20/01/2020 18:03

Go and have a glass of water and brush your teeth.

If you really still crave "need" something sweet, then a spoonful of clotted cream (or cream if you don't have any clotted cream) might hit the spot. Or a wee chunk of salted butter.

Peppermint and liquorice tea also tastes sweet - and has the benefit of adding to your water intake Halo

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 18:17

PinkSubscriber I have Buttermint tea bags which tastes like Werthers Originals.

Oh Jeez not been a good day. Bought eggs yesterday for today's breakfast, fairly sure my toddler hid them. Had already boiled some eggs so mad egg mayo and had that and a bowl of yogurt afterwards. Hardly drank any water, missed lunch and ate (85% but quite a lot) chocolate after a toddler and newborn meltdown coincided around 3pm.

Frustrating. Mostly down to poor planning (same for the double meltdown) and totally avoidable. Having veggie chilli for supper soon and eggs safely stored in the fridge for my omelette tomorrow morning. Onwards and upwards.

Rayna37 · 20/01/2020 18:34

OMG just sliced two broccoli stalks into discs and roasted them in the oven with olive oil and salt a la Stuntnun and they were fantastic! Genuinely considered if I could get away with pretending they never existed to DH despite having already told him they were in the oven Grin That will cut down my food waste going forward!

m0therofdragons · 20/01/2020 18:45

5lb off but that's partly down to flu. Feeling much more normal today so am on it. I really want to lose half a stone more. Plan to get back to running on Wednesday.
