Jan '20 - Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp - How did you do?

We've already seen some fab results, especially from those who started early. We do expect a big variation in the first weigh in. Some of you will have lost several pounds, some a more modest loss. Others won't have lost anything yet either because some healing is needed before weight loss begins in earnest, or because they didn't quite manage to stick to the rules during the first week.

So please check in with us to reflect on how your first week has gone. Try not to compare yourself to others because weight loss is a very individual thing. If you have any concerns about your progress then please do ask. We have had thousands of people through Bootcamp so make use of that collective experience.

Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or tag the rather wonderful ShagMeRiggins with your weigh-in if you can't access the spreadsheet yourself. If you're only just starting then please tag the very lovely AthelstaneTheUnready to be added to the spreadsheet. And to anybody that suspected they couldn't lose weight while eating lots of lovely food, and without feeling hungry... I hope you enjoyed being proved wrong!

I might have dreamt this but I think Costco have almond flour? I have a feeling I saw it on the Instagram feed of my local one.

Glittercandle · 26/01/2020 16:05

Thanks all.
Ha ha MrsBertBibby the jeans were £4.20 from the sale rail in Sainsbury’s- my husband despairs of me and tell me I’m allowed to buy ‘normal’ priced clothes from decent shops Blush I will when I can fit into clothes three sizes smaller than I am now!

Elpheba · 26/01/2020 16:06

I’ve not been posting but have found other posts helpful so thought I should join in with actually sharing what I eat. Started a week early so this last week I’ve had some dark chocolate and skipped breakfast- I just don’t seem to feel hungry- mind boggling compared to how I was eating before!
B- nothing
L- we went out and I had an all day breakfast. Sausage probably wasn’t LC but the rest was. Treated myself to a Diet Coke but resisted even trying a chip- felt like the taste (I don’t tend to be able to stop at one) wouldn’t be worth the cheat.
D- instant pot butter chicken with cauliflower rice.
S- pork crackling and probably 25g dark choc tonight

absopugginglutely · 26/01/2020 16:25

I haven't been coming on every day because I have been doing BC since October and am really in the swing of it now.
I have noted a pattern emerging across the month where I ravenous the week before my period and feeling the need for more cream, cheese etc in my food then the week after my period my appetite grinds to an (almost) halt and I eat very little because I am just not hungry. This is why I prefer to weigh myself every few weeks rather than every week because over time I do lose weight because I'm always sticking to the rules.

BrassicaBabe · 26/01/2020 16:25

I had one glass of wine last night. One. Massive achievement for me to stop at one.

L: 2 boiled eggs, mayo and lump of cheese
S: pepperami
D: roast loin of lamb, buttered cabbage, mashed swede, kale crisps (roast pots for family)
Water: coming out of my ears. The worst part of the whole woe for me. Pesky Smile

Harveywoo · 26/01/2020 16:53

B: mushrooms with butter and cottage cheese
L: chicken, avacado, aeoli, cream cheese cuc LoDough wrap
D: will be a veggie stir fry incl baby corn and beansprouts
Nowhere near enough water today as have spent hours heads down painting the kitchen units. Will start swigging now

HouseTornado · 26/01/2020 17:22

Anyone here live in/know Bath, who could suggest a good pub for evening food?

One which is lc friendly!

HouseTornado · 26/01/2020 17:22

Thank you, of course.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 26/01/2020 17:26

absopugginglutely, me too with the ravenous. I've not shied away from 4 dinners in one day before.

Congratulations, Brassica! Grin Don't think I can manage to stop yet, so not starting just yet.

Food today a bit haywire:

B: 2 creamy coffees
L: none, had some outside stuff I needed to finish before the rain started
D: (in a minute) a bit of cold roast chicken, celery, olives, and yoghurt

Unfortunately spent the latter half of the afternoon batch-cooking for the week so appetite has vanished. Need to avoid sudden ravening at 10pm or won't sleep!

MrsBertBibby · 26/01/2020 18:51

I have a spot of broccoli stalk, can anyone remind me of the star thing!?

StuntNun · 26/01/2020 18:58

Slice it into rounds about the thickness of a pound coin, toss in olive oil and salt, roast at 180C for 20 minutes, deliciousness ensues.

Thanks Stuntnun xx

NumbersStation · 26/01/2020 19:03

Thank you for the above also. I was just cooking it with me florets. That look super.Smile

BrassicaBabe · 26/01/2020 19:03

Hmm. I've overeaten on the lamb/swede/cabbage/kale dinner. I won't get away with that Confused

waspfig · 26/01/2020 19:25

Feeling really bloated today - probably as a result of eating two forkfuls of batter off my fish and 3 chips and 25g dark chocolate last night Blush I did eat green veg while The rest of the family tucked into their battered carby goodness. Pretty proud I didn't totally cave.

Definitely not enough water again today - how do you long timers manage when out and about? We went walking this morning with the kids and just weren't anywhere near facilities for ages!

B scrambled eggs and coriander
L tiny bit of cucumber, teaspoon of tzatiki and chunk of cheese
D pork steak rarebits with celeriac fondant and green veg

Couple of milky and couple of herbal teas
Only about 1.5L water so far

Rayna37 · 26/01/2020 20:31

Ran 4.5 miles back into town to collect the car this morning then had two scrambled eggs mid morning.
Lunch was a courgette and cheese omelette and some yogurt
Late burns nights meal: haggis, swede, bit of red cabbage and sautéed kale plus some gravy. Delicious but not perfectly low carb.

Not exactly a perfect weekend so fully expecting to be a bit up on last week.

I have a crazy week with lots of driving and two hotel nights, but think I'm at a steak place tomorrow so that'll be good.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/01/2020 20:33

I take a water bottle with me waspfig. It accompanies me everywhere.

waspfig · 26/01/2020 20:50

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal sorry when I said facilities I meant toilets! My water bottle comes everywhere too but I can only hold so much water in! Blush

CheddarGorgeous · 26/01/2020 21:04

@absopugginglutely I'm the same. Disinterested in food for 3/4 weeks of the month and then find myself eating handfuls of dry Cheerios straight from the box on the week before my period Confused

I am getting better at tracking my cycle and spotting the pattern now. For years I just didn't bother.

ilovecherries · 26/01/2020 21:05

Can anyone suggest any good low carb soups (I will make them myself, don’t want bought ones). I’m not shaking off this virus and soup is all I fancy, but I’m bored to my repertoire which is: cauliflower and cheese soup, broccoli and Stilton, creamy mushroom, and a chicken and green veg clear type soup. I’m sitting here craving lentil, or minestrone or pea and ham!

MrsBertBibby · 26/01/2020 21:10

www.rivercottage.net/recipes/celeriac-soup

This celeriac soup is lovely, I'vd never done the pesto bit. Omit the potato, obvs.

BIWI · 26/01/2020 21:42

@ilovecherries

this is a fabulous recipe for soup

I used to get this when I was working, on the days that Pret did it, and it's really tasty and very satisfying. I can't find the carb count online, but from memory it's pretty low (despite the oats). You might want to add a bit more fat, but as it stands it's a lovely soup.

BIWI · 26/01/2020 21:45

Sorry - didn't make it clear in that link - that's a recipe for 'no cream cream of chicken soup' from Pret A Manger.

venusandmars · 26/01/2020 22:01

@Ilovecherries how about lobster bisque? ( or any kind of shellfish)

The shells of the shellfish roasted, crushed boiled in water. Add shallot, garlic, tomato. Then add knobs of butter.... rich thick delicious nutritious

Doilooklikeatourist · 26/01/2020 22:03

Soup recipe
Peeled and chopped onion ( yes I know , but they’re easier than shallots )Celery or celeriac sweated in butter
Add peeled courgette , leeks and some broccoli ( I use the stalk , use the florets for veg as a side dish )
Add a chicken stock cube , salt and pepper , I add mixed herbs too ,though DH hates them
Simmer away , blend , check seasoning
To serve heat up
Add cream, and a cube of butter to make it smooth and rich ,
Add some chopped parsley and devour
