Evening all

I'm starting the new chat thread this evening, as we're going to be away tonight, and I won't have an opportunity to do this tomorrow morning. And I know how you all start chomping at the bit after about 5am on a Monday, waiting for me to start the new thread Grin

So here is the Spreadsheet

Hopefully now we've got through weeks 3 & 4, things are starting to go well for you all. Although I have noted the various lapses

Look forward to hearing how you've all got on

Thank you. That article is really interesting to read and confirms what I was thinking about the fear mongering.

Like how my friend took it for fact that if you consume animal products then you have fat floating in your blood.....
I know plenty of unhealthy vegetarians for instance. Who eat cheese sandwiches, crisps and chocolate for lunch each day. Obviously that isn't vegan so not the same but I feel I'm healthier on this WOE than that person for instance.
Obviously vegans and veggies can be healthy! However I don't believe at all it's the only way, and like she says it's not the right way to convince people as it doesn't seem very honest!
I do think she has a point in that article that many people consume too much animal product because they have it instead of plants.... instead of a good balance. Can't beat green veggies.

Anyway, thank you, and sorry for the off topic rambles.

BIWI · 23/11/2019 19:12

I think the thing about the current vegan bandwagon is that companies are falling all over themselves to produce products that replicate meat - which means they have to be really heavily processed, using all manner of ingredients. Here's an example, The Plant Pioneers Smoked Vacon Lardons:

Water, Wheat Gluten (17%), Coconut Milk (13%) (Coconut Milk, Water), Rapeseed Oil, Fortified Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Vegetable Suet (Palm Oil, Rice Flour), Pea Protein, Stabiliser:Methyl Cellulose, Natural Flavouring, Sugar, Salt, Yeast Extract, Smoked Paprika, Dried Onion, Smoke Flavouring, Colour:Iron Oxide, Vitamin B12

Meals today.
L: 3 egg omelette with ham and cheese..
D: 4 chicken drumsticks, bag of mixed salad leaves, half an avocado, some hm parmesan 'crisps' and a dollop of mayo.
Had two cream coffees too.

Feel hungry today but not sure if it's just picking for pickings sake. I have given up vaping (yaaay) but only on day 3 so could very well be down to that.
But I will resist.
Looking forward to Monday's weigh in 😊

Nonononon · 23/11/2019 19:41

And I had better see an 11 on those scales!
I was 12st 1.25lbs on Monday just gone and really want to be back down into the 11s 🙏

stayathomegardener · 23/11/2019 23:18

@absopugginglutely I started at the beginning of this BC but did this woe for two years previously on the advice of my consultant as I have rheumatoid arthritis and cfs and it helps with that.

Just couldn't get back on it by myself this time without support and had been eating vast amounts of sugar over the last year.

No exercise @ShagMeRiggins but I think the bloating was food intolerances which this woe (minus the dairy) seems to really help with.

DownUdderer · 24/11/2019 05:25

Hi. I’ve had sashimi for lunch, love it, could eat it all day long!

My mum bought a caramel sauce the other day and it was in the fridge, so I dipped my finger in for a sneaky taste, and it was disgusting, but, that’s due to my changed taste buds.

I’ll have loads of veg for dinner.

I’m hoping to drop a pound any day now!

StuntNun · 24/11/2019 06:31

Iris I've been eating low carb for six years and the last time my triglycerides (literally the amount of fat in your blood) were tested they were 0.22 mmol/l. Ideally it should be below 1.7 mmol/l and the test used had a lower accuracy limit of 0.4 mmol/l. So the amount of fat in my blood was lower than the test could actually measure! This is a fairly typical result for someone eating a low carb high fat diet.

StuntNun · 24/11/2019 06:34

Also Iris the reason dairy can be a problem is that in some people the protein is hyperinsulinogenic, i.e. it triggers a disproportionate release of insulin. What we call a low carb diet is more technically a low insulin diet. If you're one of these hyper responders then too much or too frequent dairy intake can stall or restrict weight loss. Butter is 97% fat so the tiny amount of protein in it doesn't cause a problem and it can be eaten liberally. Ghee is 99% fat so is even better from that point of view.

MarmaladeTeepee · 24/11/2019 07:56

Sorry to derail the thread and barge in like this, but does anyone have any advice for what to drink on a night out? All I drink now is water, buttermint tea and coffee with cream. I used to love sugary cocktails and flavoured gins, but can't stomach them now as they're all too sweet. In fact I'd happily give alcohol a miss altogether, so what soft drinks would you recommend as I've got a few Christmas nights out coming up? I'd feel too much like a cheap skate asking for water but what are the alternatives? Thank you

venusandmars · 24/11/2019 08:31

marmalade
Soda water with a squeeze of fresh lime (not lime cordial!). Or add some crushed mint leaves so it's a bit like a virgin mojito.
Doesn't help when you're out but at home I add a small amount to boiling water to a herbal teabag (to get the flavour out) cool, and then top up with sparking water, add a slice of lime, some mint...

I was very 'chefy' last night. I had some bisque in the freezer (made previously from langoustine shells). I reduced it down and then added a touch of double cream and whisked in a few knobs of butter. Served with seabass, it was just like a restaurant sauce.

Had a walk round a local farm estate and bought partridge stuffed with black pudding and wrapped in bacon, for dinner tonight.

B - scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, buttered mushrooms
L - avocado salad
D - partridge, cabbage in cream and parmesan with crispy pancetta

MarmaladeTeepee · 24/11/2019 08:44

@venusandmars soda water of course! I'd forgotten all about that. Thank you!

Doilooklikeatourist · 24/11/2019 09:17

I’ve had a bit of a bad week , bread came back into my life , one day I had toast for breakfast , sandwich for lunch and garlic bread with dinner

Drawn a line under it , and moving on

Christmas shopping at a NT fair , hope there’ll be a nice meat / butchers stall

absopugginglutely · 24/11/2019 09:47

Eeeeek!
After being stuck at 11 stone for an aeon (and not being able to see my scales because they have teeny tiny lines) I knew I’d dropped below 11 in the past couple of weeks but didn’t know the accurate reading because I couldn’t see exactly, I finally got my poor DH to get down on the bathroom floor and see how many lines exactly it’s was on and I’m now 10 stone 9!!!
Sooo happy- when I started I was above 11 and a half stone and now I’m getting close to 10 and a half!
This is just the encouragement I needed.
I have stopped eating cheese for the past two weeks and have been intermittent fasting when I can, also drinking loads of water.
My mission for today is more veg. I’ve been having green veg with every meal but not a FL!
So happy!
In a way I’m quite glad that I haven’t been able to fixate on exact amounts of Lbs and just KOKO but I am going to buy some digital scales on Saturday when I get paid! (Hope they’re in agreement with mine!)

Have a lovely day all.

P.s I’m enjoying getting my first 2 litres in by mid day so that the last one isn’t such an effort and can be spread across the afternoon/ eve.

Nonononon · 24/11/2019 11:46

Awesome abso!! Im over the moon for you. Its such a great feeling 😊

rosesandsunflowers · 24/11/2019 12:52

Thanks @rshard. He's doing much better now and I think it's healing up so fingers crossed we won't need to go back to hospital.

Congratulations @abso that's amazing. I'm still to jump over the 11 stone line but I'm so so close. Your post has spurred me on! I will do this before Christmas!!

B: scrambled eggs with buttery mushrooms
L: not sure - probably some green veg in butter as dh and kids are out.
D: making a cottage pie of sorts using swede instead of potato for the mash.

stayathomegardener · 24/11/2019 17:44

ShagMeRiggins · 24/11/2019 21:02

Loving all this! WATER ETC...

DownUdderer · 25/11/2019 03:14

My scales are the older fashion ones with a disk that goes round and dashes for the weight with only the stones marked with numbers! I have to squint, hold deathly still and try and count dashes too! How lovely that your DH bent down to look for you!

I’m nearly 10st 7, and I can’t wait! I’m getting closer to the BMI I want and need!

Rshard · 25/11/2019 07:02

Glad he’s ok sunflowers

Well done abso! I know what you mean about not fixating on the scales. I couldn’t weigh a couple of years ago (went to Boots and had a couple of weeks of not driving due to any injury) but I just carried on with this woe and had lost 4lbs when I did get back on the scales. I guess koko is the mantra!

Is anyone starting to think about Christmas and how to handle?

absopugginglutely · 25/11/2019 07:40

@DownUdderer I know it was sweet of DH to read the scales for me!
Maybe it’s a good thing that only the stones are written as numbers because I want to get to ten stone!

@Rshard I’ve planned my Christmas Day food and it does include an Erin mess for dessert and a Baileys on Xmas eve but I’m hoping if I keep all the really special treats to just Xmas day and Boxing Day that it will be okay.

The main thing I’m worried about is staying with MIL from 20-23rd Dec abd politely eating around the carbs in offer!
