Morning campers! Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet

Sounds like a bit of a mixed week, so hopefully the scales (or tape measure!) have been kind to you, otherwise @MrsTerryPratchett is going to need a bigger patio!

Sorry to hear about the surgery @Sittingonthesidelines, but glad all is well. Hopefully he'll be home soon.

And hope that your surgery went well @NigellaAwesome

So we're in the last three weeks - still time to lose a good chunk of fat. But only, of course, if you stick to the rules ... Grin

Good luck to everyone.

Summery I wouldn’t recommend online Colour Analysis—the technology isn’t there, not even close. I’ve no experience with Colour Me Beautiful but if you go to the Style& Beauty boards and ask for their opinions, I’m sure you’ll get lots of helpful recommendations—most people who’ve invested in it are passionate about the subject.

With the grey, it was exactly like VeryLittleOwl said. I thought if I’m clearly going to be 100% white/grey anyway, rather than suddenly reveal it one day in a few decades time and look massively different overnight (which I feel would be harder to cope with), why not do it now with my younger face and possibly make the transition feel easier. I think I’ve aged facially a lot in past 2 years and my face didn’t suit my old natural colour either but I didn’t want to go down regular highlight route either.

Having said all of that, I’m still relatively early days with it. The roots are about ear length and the ends are still highlights. I’m a little bit darker at the very front, which definitely suits my face more. I often remind myself that I’m only ever TWO hours away from covering it all up again, which helps Grin. Not sure if this is permanent but will keep going for now. Going to get some gloss treatments or lowlights if I need to enhance it in the future.

And I also have one ginger side and one olive-ish side. I’ve def veered to the ginge as I’ve got older. Pink/white scalp is actually what puts me off this hair colour the most, when you can see it. Though I have lost a lot of hair recently too which might not be helping.

Hallo all

Summery and 18pages thank you both of you. I did dry January to the end for the first time this year and I remember feeling relieved that I had the choice of whether to drink or not just taken away from me. And now when I don’t drink I feel like I have got a bit of my life back. I drink probably five evenings out of seven and usually half a bottle of white wine on each of those. It’s too much. I will look at those books. I have Control Alcohol sitting by my bed. I read it and liked it a year or so ago, need to revisit it

18pages I went grey a few years ago when I was about 46. My hair is actually very nearly white and died dark brown it just looked awful really. I look much healthier now and much more stylish. I wish it was still naturally dark but it isn’t!

I’ve had a great couple if days. At a conference by the sea, went for a 40 minute sea swim which was lovely and then dinner at the Real Greek which was easy, lamb kebab, Greek salad and halloumi fries. Breakfast was bacon and eggs on the seafront

Will definitely be pottering along between BC

This has been a great BC for me, great food, great people Thank you BIWI Flowers

Almahart · 03/07/2019 15:24

I would absolutely LOVE a BC style day with you lot!

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/07/2019 15:44

However, I'm an easy target and usually give in ...

I'll stick mid-October in the diary then. Grin

prettybird · 03/07/2019 15:55

tootsastic - had a look at Boden and say this that might suit: obviously, don't know your colours, nor how dressy or not you want the dress(es) to be.

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/summer-wrap-dress-forest/sty-j0183-dgr?cat=C1_S2_G4

or this one

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/mira-ponte-wrap-dress-poinsettia/sty-j0380-drd?cat=C1_S2_G4

I someitmes stuggle with Boden dresses that have waists stitched in and false belts, as their waist is higher than my waist, so it can be both slightly uncomfortable/annoying and doesn't show off my good waist Hmm

This is like the top(s) that I wore to death - only they had 3/4 length sleeves. Annoyingly, the white and the black ones, which are the only ones still in stock in my size, are not reduced Sad

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/07/2019 15:58

Boden need a picture with a model with big chestal area. Those dresses are lovely but when I try some of them on I look quite different to a skinny model.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/07/2019 16:00

"I'm kind of hoping for a cool stripe a the temple ala Morticia!"

I have that! Hair is naturally dark brown but years of sticking reddish semi-permanent colours on it have left it looking more Auburn - with goldeny highlights ATM from the sun.

We've recently had our bathroom done so DH has forbidden me from home dying as I also tend to do half the bathroom (I have thick, curly hair, it's hard not to). Will have to decide soon whether I want to pay for a professional job or just let the grey streak grow out.

VeryLittleOwl · 03/07/2019 16:01

This was my before and after when I had it done for the first time last summer - I've gone a bit darker on the base colour since, but it really did make a big difference to me.

Week 8 - Summer low carb Bootcamp - three weeks to go ...
SittingontheSidelines · 03/07/2019 16:23

@athelstone I'd love that. I'm away most of next week and I think knowing the spread sheet was still going to be there would help me to stay on track. (I do intend to eat haggis though, dare I ask how many carbs it contains?).

Rshard · 03/07/2019 16:35

Love all the styling chat! Who knew there was such a difference in the cost of highlights! I’m very grey but go to my local salon to have the roots done - £55 with a wet cut. I’ve got very curly hair and come out looking like a poodle so see know point in paying for that......

Yours looks lovely verylittleowl

My dd has a silver streak at her neck hairline, quite chunky and looks lovely through a plait. She’s only 13!

Rshard · 03/07/2019 16:37

toots Boden’s blackberry dress is lovely and quite good for boobs - I’m a 34E and have 2 which I’m wearing for the third summer, still in great condition.

NigellaAwesome · 03/07/2019 16:40

Lovely hair @VeryLittleOwl

Almahart · 03/07/2019 16:54

verylittleowl your hair is fab!

MrsBertBibby · 03/07/2019 17:58

Lovely hair!

I went bra shopping, to a proper lingerie shop (never dared venture into one of those before. Fuck knows why, who the hell else should be going in a bra shop but a middle aged woman with big undisciplined boobs?)

Anyway, she measured me (36 E-F, which was a surprise) and found me a bra which I have high hopes will refrain from persistently poking me in the arm pits.

And she's low-carbing. We moaned about bleeding avocados.

Then I bought some holiday trousers. Same Fatface linen crops as I got last year but different colour. And a size 14 instead of 16! Pretty snug just now but that will change (plus they stretch like buggery).

prettybird · 03/07/2019 18:39

I'd post a picture of me (with my 34DD/E boobs Wink) in a Boden wrap top, but at the moment, FB is playing silly buggers with photos, so I can't access them Hmm

ShagMeRiggins · 03/07/2019 19:31

I do intend to eat haggis though, dare I ask how many carbs it contains?

Just don’t look, Sitting. Honestly, if this is something you know you’ve planned and will have, best to be perfectly LCHF before and after. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating so your options are a) don’t have haggis and feel you’ve missed out, or b) do have haggis then stress about how many carbs you’ve had. Out of curiosity, must you have haggis? Hmm

VeryLittleOwl, fab hair, truly beautiful I’m curious why you aren’t embracing your natural wave/curl. Because I’m a nosy bugger.

Rshard, I’m also loving the styling chat. , Well I would, wouldn’t I? I hate the word “journey” because reality competitions have ruined it, but Works In Progress is better. From birth to death (those tricky years, someone said Grin), we are all Works In Progress, and our health, weight loss, fitness, style, hair, makeup, exercise...all go into a category I call Well Being & Confidence. There are also myriad attributes (education, kindness, drive, humour, to name a few) that are hugely important. But if one feels one’s best (outside and in), it probably follows that one acts one’s best.

prettybird · 03/07/2019 19:59

Don't ask about carbs in haggis Wink The saving grace though is that carbs in it are barley which I think is low GI. Plus it is very fatty! Grin

I usually have it at the Burns Supper at the end of the January Boot Camp without too much ill-effect: have loads of very buttery neeps as accompaniment and forego the mashed potatoes (don't often like mashed potatoes anyway, so no hardship Grin). I do a starter of creamed parsnips, seared scallops, crispy streaky bacon and rocket, (and sometimes Stornoway black pudding), so try and keep the carbs down there too (although the black pudding also has a few carbs).

VeryLittleOwl · 03/07/2019 21:58

Thanks everyone Blush

ShagMe - the hairdresser I go to likes to cut dry, so she straightened it before lopping it off. The curls were back the day after :)

starsky22 · 03/07/2019 23:14

Just catching up on the thread after a busy few days, food wise trying to stick to low carb, but been letting the carbs creep in and I need to get a hold of that quickly before I fall of the wagon completely!

Loving the style and hair chat and would love a Bootcamp style day, I had my colours done a few years ago and found it helped me so much with clothes shopping, would love to find out what my style is too.

I starting going grey when I was 21, dyed my hair brown for years, getting darker and darker to cover the grey. Got fed up with it and in late 2017, after a very inspiring thread on MN, I decided to stop dying and grow out the grey. It was difficult at first with massive grey roots, but I love it now! It does mean I have to make more of an effort with my clothes and make-up, if I don't make an effort I think I can look very old and haggard, a bright lipstick definitely helps! I'll see if I can post a picture.

ShagMeRiggins · 03/07/2019 23:18

Doesn’t she ask you how you like it styled? Or do you like it for a change of pace? Beautiful straight, and, I’m sure, beautiful with curls.

StuntNun · 04/07/2019 06:30

Has anyone managed to track down the M&S meatza yet? Neither of my two nearest shops stock it.

NigellaAwesome · 04/07/2019 07:18

@StuntNun they are beside the burgers in my M&S, at the end of an aisle.

I liked them, but had a full one and felt quite sick. They are deceptively filling.
