Morning campers! Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet

Sounds like a bit of a mixed week, so hopefully the scales (or tape measure!) have been kind to you, otherwise @MrsTerryPratchett is going to need a bigger patio!

Sorry to hear about the surgery @Sittingonthesidelines, but glad all is well. Hopefully he'll be home soon.

And hope that your surgery went well @NigellaAwesome

So we're in the last three weeks - still time to lose a good chunk of fat. But only, of course, if you stick to the rules ... Grin

Good luck to everyone.

Just over a pound gone this week. More excitingly, first time below 12 1/2 stone!

Almahart · 08/07/2019 06:42

Had a lovely weekend away with friends but had a day off BC. Back on it today, could do with a bit of a breakthrough

Chipping I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time, please don’t apologise for posting Flowers

VeryLittleOwl · 08/07/2019 06:33

Apparently pride comes before a custard slice and Haagen-Dazs. That'll teach me to wander round Tesco at 3pm when I haven't had time to eat anything all day!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/07/2019 22:45

Performing today at the Queen Mum's old home in the middle of nowhere and wasn't sure what I could manage without carbs for dinner, but a local Costco came up with the goods in the shape of a ready-roast half chicken - which lacking any cutlery I ate with my hands like the classy bird I am.Grin

ChippingInLowCarbing · 07/07/2019 22:19

chilli

Thanks chipping I did fry the bees in butter

We won’t be having ANY Of that - 🐝🐝🐝🐝they’re FAR TOO CUTE!

However, hopefully you meant ‘beef’ (though as a vegetarian I’m not too chuffed about that either, you understand, but you got the extra butter in so that’s good!!)

I was working my way back to vegan( because the dairy industry is every bit as bad arguably worse) but selfishly I’m not doing that & BC too or I’m getting to a point of being ‘food free’ (and a properly grumpy witch!)

Nigella I haven’t actually read the book yet, but I know quite a bit about it through the diabetes website I also hang out on. I know BC & F800 aren’t mutually exclusive, but it’s a bit like runners if ones training for a marathon and the other cross country. It’s nit easy to run together. And in general I do TRY not to derail the BC threads with my vegetarian ‘alterations’ or diabetic wittering

I. Hope you find the book interesting/worthwhile

I’m re reading DR Briffa for the millionth time & Bernstein. But also listening to pod casts re diabetes low carbing, Keto & other options.

How’s your recovery coming along?

And honestly, if you wanted to do that, you could still post here! Awws thanks @BIWI

Rshard · 07/07/2019 21:41

Aww chipping, sorry to read that’s you’re feeling fed up. You did the right thing posting on here, lots of great advice.

BIWI · 07/07/2019 21:21

... and I'm sure you haven't made anyone wobble - I think you'll find that we're all here wanting you to find something that works for you. Flowers

BIWI · 07/07/2019 21:20

I know you want to stop being a diabetic, and if we could make that so, we would all be very happy for you!! Grin

But actually that was also why I was thinking about the Fast 800, as it's a WOE which was developed initially to help diabetics. And honestly, if you wanted to do that, you could still post here!

I've been reading a lot about the Fast 800 and have been playing around with some of it myself. As far as I'm concerned, it combines some of the principles of food restriction (aka calorie restriction) with low carbing, and so seems to be a promising WOE.

Of course, it's not Bootcamp - but there are many different ways to skin a cat, as they say Smile

NigellaAwesome · 07/07/2019 21:10

GrinShock at frying 🐝

Chipping, I just bought the Fast800 book yesterday and am sitting down to read it. I think so many of the principles sort of crossover with boot camp, that the 2 are not mutually exclusive.

I haven't been able to follow BC properly since my surgery 3 weeks ago, but I'm still here, making sarky comments about typos Grin. I really value the support and chat on here.

Chillijamntuna · 07/07/2019 20:53

Thanks chipping I did fry the bees in butter and didn’t know shallots were lower carb- thank you.

I hope you can find a way to make LCing work for you- I hope we all can I know many have!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 07/07/2019 20:41

@BIWI PLEASE don’t feel bad & I know that’s not what you meant 😘

Yes I’ve looked into the MM F800

I try not to post when I feel like this because I don’t want to put anyone else off because I think this really is ‘Easy’ and ‘Works’ for meat/fish eaters & why I stress that it’s just the veg, no egg aspect that’s difficult

I have listened to a lot of pod casts offering slightly different solutions etc

But I LIKE doing BC with you and everyone else. I want to just enjoy it and have it work, but I just can’t eat meat/fish

I think really I just want to stop being bloody diabetic and having to fuss so damn much. I have spent 25 years being the ‘easy’ vegetarian who’ll eat anything as long as it’s this past 5 years has been hard work - physically & emotionally. I’m tired of it but this is it for life now ‘reversal’ isn’t actually ‘teversal’ It’s simply careful maintenance through diet.(plus/minus meds) if they went back to eating the same amount of carbs as ‘normal’ People their bloods would be bad again.

I really Hope o haven’t made anyone wobble that wasn’t my intention AT all I’m a big BC fan! Xx

ChippingInLowCarbing · 07/07/2019 20:31

Hi chill

You haven’t messed up today because of one stock cube. You’ll think look next time you’re buying them and choose a good one (or maybe the fresh stock)

I would have put butter and olive oil in the bignsyse to up the fat content s bit and I use shallots instead of onions as they’re less

But overall it sounds like you’ve had a good day & lots of water...all finished off with a nice bike ride!

Well done you 🌷

BIWI · 07/07/2019 20:25

Please don't think, @ChippingInLowCarbing that I want you to leave us Shock - I just worry that you're not happy and not enjoying life, and also not getting the results that you want/need!

OP posts:
BIWI · 07/07/2019 20:24

I'm wondering, @ChippingInLowCarbing whether a different approach might work for you?

Have you considered Dr Michael Mosley's Fast 800 diet? It's low calorie but also low(er) carb. It's based on the work they've been doing at the University of Newcastle on using low calorie diets to reverse diabetes.

I can't help but feel that your food on Bootcamp is getting so restrictive that it's making you feel really bad, and that makes me feel bad Sad

If you were to follow that diet, it does allow the inclusion of legumes/pulses, which might make your meals rather more interesting.

Chipping I was looking at the site anyway ( for inspiration) and saw the no eggs ,
I like. To Look at Diet Dr , and plan , life doesn’t always go to plan , though
And yes , I always look like a tourist , slightly confused and wondering if I should put more sun cream on 🌞

ChippingInLowCarbing · 07/07/2019 20:21

I have ordered more seeds etc though to make flax porridge & ‘granola’

ChippingInLowCarbing · 07/07/2019 20:17

DoookLikeAtourist (your name always makes me smile! Despite trying hard not to, I’m sure I DO look like a tourist! No matter where I am !!

Thank you for taking the time to post the link. I have seen those before and do use the Diet Doctor website but like all the other veg low carb:Keto sites etc there’re still quite carb heavy and their x number vegetarian LC breakfasts (or whatever are either high in carbs or are s variation of meat/fish:cheese on a plate or 6 ways to make BP coffee 🙄

Chillijamntuna · 07/07/2019 19:24

Hello fellow LCers
I have just made a low carb bolegnese with...

Beef mince (Aldi only had 5% fat one :( )

3 sticks of celery diced
2 onions
2 cloves garlic
A splash of single cream
A splash of white wine vinegar
Italian dried herbs
Chicken stock
Served with a sprinkle of parmesan and a tbsp of sour cream.

I also smacked on 2 sticks of celery dipped in philledelphia and 5 slices of salami between meals, my period is on its way and I always just feel ravenous before.

I have drunk loads and loads of water today.

We have run out of any other veg and I need to go to the supermarket in the morning.

I’m bummed out because I checked to stock cube after I put it in and it’s the crappy cheap Aldi one and the packet said “chicken flavoured stock” and was full of shit; sugar, flavourings E numbers etc.

Feel like I’ve messed up today now.

Going for a bike ride now.

Does pre menstrual mess mean you retain weight?

My clothes feel looser but my weight won’t budge.

Maybe my calorie vs exercise is not at a deficit?

Thanks,

Chilli

MrsBertBibby · 07/07/2019 18:49

Hah yes, I boggled at the beetroot and the chick peas too!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 07/07/2019 18:29

@BIWI. @mrsBertBibby Thanks - it’s nice to be ‘heard’ NON LC’ers just say ‘well Stop doing it then’

I do make Cauliflower steaks with various toppings and they are good, but I still feel it’s ‘cauliflower AGAIN samey/samey...

And did you loook at the carbs in the recipes? 😳. I’m barely losing any weight eating 1/3 to half those carbs!😩

Chickpeas, beetroot - they’re foods I’ve foresaken for low 🥴😖😢

I make ‘cauliflower cheese’ A LOT ( but I add other veg broccoli/spinach/courgettes etc. I USED to make it with cream cheese, but I’ve also forsaken that and just use cream & cheddar or blue cheese now as it’s lower in carbs

I haven’t made celeriac dauphinois this time so that’s. a Good reminder!

wayoftheworld I trust nothing in a packet! Carb count first, ingredients second well...both after checking it’s suitable for vegetarians!

I buy Waitrose Essentiaks Wholenut Peanut butter as it’s the lowest carb I’ve found 5.3g per 100g this eeej I had to order Online From Ocado as Tesco have stopped sticking the Fiid Doctor mixed seeds I like I was looking at what other PB T
they had in case there was another lower carb one I could try. I happened to click on the one I usually buy and online it said 16g per 100g 😳 I rang up I sdo’d customer support to ask WTAF (slightly more politely) and the young lad was perplexed. I think he thought I might be a bit dim or blind as he asked me to send a photo if the jar and asked when I’d bought it. He’s going to get back to me. The reply will be interesting!

Chipping
I don’t know if this might help?

MrsBertBibby · 07/07/2019 17:49

I feel your pain, Chipping. I really do.

It is a real grind, especially if you don't have time/ energy to do proper cooking.

I do seriously commend the cauli cheese I had the other day : you make the sauce with a load of broccoli whizzed up, so the flgv quotient is satisfied, and it did 3 dinners for me, with a veggie sausage or mushies or roasted cherry toms on the side.

www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/low-carb-cauliflower-cheese

Celeriac dauphinoise filled a similar spot. And again, lasted several meals.

Doilooklikeatourist · 07/07/2019 17:36

Was looking for a home made meatzza recipe and found this
www.nigella.com/recipes/meatzza
I don’t eat beef , will try with minced pork / turkey and leave the breadcrumbs out obviously
Will try it the next couple of days and report back

TheWayOfTheWorld · 07/07/2019 17:00

Been MIA due to work and yo-yoing, event though sticking to it, so KOKOing.

Anyway, I've just popped on to remind people to check labels really carefully. Was in the supermarket earlier and saw a "cauliflower pizza base" - brilliant thought I, something different to fathead and maybe more tasty/crispy than Lo-Dough.

Uh-huh. The front of the packet states "67g cauliflower". Sounds good, right? Wrong. Firstly the base alone is 399 cals which makes me a tad suspicious.

Look at the front of the packet more closely. Gives a breakdown of fat, sugar and salt. Hhm, what about the carbs...

Back of the packet. First ingredient is wheat flour. 73g of carbs in the pizza base Shock

Clearly manufacturers trying to jump on the LCHF bandwagon without doing it properly.

HmmHmmHmm
