Morning all!

here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So now we've completed the first half of Bootcamp. Some trials and tribulations along the way, but hopefully you've all settled into the swing of things and it's becoming easier and more like second nature.

Just a reminder - if you haven't already - to check out the recipe threads, which are all stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic. Some really nice ideas there to inspire you.

And also, just in case you haven't seen this thread here's one which is about good low carb products that people have come across

If you post on that thread - and please do! - please post a photo of the front of the pack and also the nutritional info on the back of the pack.

My good friend got a little outdoor stove thing and ate mostly steaks when her kitchen was AWOL one summer.

Agree that mn emojis are the original and the best and that Hmm = woman. Confused is also a fave but I worry sometimes about offending people by implying in a pa way that I’m confused by something they’ve typed rather than that I’m just a bit dense/dippy sometimes Grin

My faves on iPhone that come closest to MN on satisfaction scale, and their meanings to me:

😬 = “awkwarrrrd” (as per teen dd)/oh dear, I’ve been bad (most Mondays)
🙄 = oh ffs!/worra twat (as above)
😌= smug (yet to be used on bc Hmm)
🤨 = hmmm/fucker!
🤪 = brain melt (everyday)
😁 = I am easily amused (default mode when not depressed )

Thanks for frozen celeriac tip! Frozen or otherwise - celeriac is this week’s cheese crisp things. I WILL find it and make a tartiflette. I have a very particular set of skills etc etc...

Ignoring the fact that I’ve yet to find the cheese things Hmm Come in Waitrose, don’t let me down! I need something to look forward to this weekend. what has my life become that a root veg is the key to my happiness

StuntNun · 20/06/2019 07:33

Roasted green beans?! What is this sorcery?

HealthyLunchBox · 20/06/2019 07:40

I just get gin bottles emojis on the app too. Annoying as sometimes I can't work out the tone of the post.

I have a confession to make. I had pizza last night. It wasn't a 'fall off the wagon, last minute decision' I planned to have it as I see this way of eating as long term and so I will have a treat once a month or so. Sorry if that's the wrong way to look at it but I'm just being honest. I haven't had any high carb food (apart from the bbq sauce accident) since I started bootcamp. I've been totally strict and followed every rule. I've had 3 squares of 85% chocolate and a few sips of a g&t this whole bootcamp.

Weirdly I didn't put any weight on this morning. Very strange. I felt so bloated last night. Amazing that I used to feel like that every day and just see it as normal! Also had really bad food cravings after. I was looking through the cupboards for soemthing else, even though I was beyond full. I had to stop and give myself a talking to! So lesson learnt!

MumbleLumble · 20/06/2019 07:42

Oh dear, last post was me. Forgot to change back to my normal name ConfusedBlush

Rshard · 20/06/2019 07:47

What you described above mumble, is how I envisage maintenance on this woe to be.

I’m 2lbs up this morning, think it might be because I didn’t have enough water but 2lbs!! Still if it is that, it should come off just as quickly

TheWayOfTheWorld · 20/06/2019 07:55

Woo and boo - 0.4lb off to finally get me out of the 147s and into the 146s, onwards and downwards.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 20/06/2019 07:55

Bloody autocorrect - that was meant to be "hoo" not "boo" Hmm

TheWayOfTheWorld · 20/06/2019 07:57

@MumbleLumble but that's good, because you recognised what had triggered the munchies and put a stop to it. It does take a lot of willpower but I always feel good when I swerve something and you should too Smile

18pagesfrontandback · 20/06/2019 08:11

Feel flatter (in a good, tummy way) this morning. Still had wine last night which need to kick on the head, but increase in water yesterday has def reduced a lot of bloat I had gathered during week.

Agree Mumble about the effect of carbs and how we didn’t notice it before this woe. On the odd occasion I’ve carbed a bit, it always amazes me to think that that used to be the ‘norm’. Never going back full time!

Weigh in day tmw. Rshard WATER WATER WATER! Get ready for Friday baby!

Rshard · 20/06/2019 08:27

You’re right 18pages 💦 💦 is my mantra for today!

Almahart · 20/06/2019 08:32

I’m in a state of complacency - I’m rating bootcamp compliant food but having too many treats

For example

Yesterday I had
Ff yoghurt with blackberries
A Greek salad with a whole slab of feta
Steak and rocket
Two glasses of red wine
A cream and chocolate pot with more blackberries

Also four cups of tea/coffee with normal milk

I was definitely overeating and also the wine and chocolate is happening too often

Am two pounds up from before the weekend

This happened the only other time I did bc all the way through, I relaxed too much in the middle.

Next week I am planning to follow BIWI’s strict recipe plan on the spreadsheet and get below 11 stone (am three pounds away at the moment). Target weight is 10’7. Should be almost achievable if I lose 2 ib a week for the next four weeks.

18pagesfrontandback · 20/06/2019 08:40

Ooh I might take a look at that. I haven’t weighed in this week at all yet, dread to think what it is. And that’s at my lightest time of month too so Blush
I’ve actually mostly been fine with food, but like you Almahart I think possibly too much. And also, I know wine MASSIVELY reduces the speed at which I lose. Which is why it’s such a good fucking idea of mine to start drinking again when I’m stalling for 4 was at a time anyway Hmm

18pagesfrontandback · 20/06/2019 08:42

*Might take a look at that = BIWI strict food plan

Anyone got any recipes (simpler the better) for frozen haddock fillets? I haven’t stuff in to be doing a mash for fish pie or anything, but was thinking of baking in some form. Any dry or with a sauce suggestions would be most welcome.

18pagesfrontandback · 20/06/2019 08:44

Most welcome? Do I mean, most helpful? Most gratefully received? Most appreciated?

Almahart · 20/06/2019 08:45

18pages it’s in the spreadsheet. I’m going to start it on Monday if you fancy joining me Smile

Notwatchingtvtoday · 20/06/2019 09:01

Morning all, another half pound off, so only 2 and a half to go to get back to where I was preholiday. I do love this way of eating but have found that for me I have to stick to it rigidly, any extras and I always gain weight.

I had a huge plate of veg with a chicken breast last night and was a bit worried that it would lead to a gain so pleasantly surprised that you actually can eat a huge FLGV and still loose .

I currently have loads (7) of Celaric stock pilled in my fridge, it is actually a little spooky and hope no one draws Faces on them 😀.

I’m not brilliant with fish, but would probably oven roast the haddock with butter, oil and veg.

Today’s menu:

Water
1 tea with milk
B Greek yogurt, tsp double cream, Tsp Linwoods mix, 2 frozen raspberries crumbled, 2 coffees with butter
L egg Frittata with green salad and coleslaw
D roast chicken, celaric mash, oven roasted green beans and runner beans

A couple Teaspoons of Marsacapone or m&s rollio in afternoon if I get hungry, seems to fill me up and keeps me from eating other stuff

Rshard · 20/06/2019 09:25

Could use some ground almonds and make into a “breaded” fish type thing? Either the while fillet or goujons maybe?

NigellaAwesome · 20/06/2019 09:50

@18pagesfrontandback I've been watching the Paleo Way on Netflix and there was a very nice marinade / sauce for white fish. A bit like a chimichurri - lots of chopped parsley, garlic, olive oil, dash of apple cider vinegar. Use half to marinade, pan fry, then use the other half as a sauce.

Rayna37 · 20/06/2019 12:42

Almahart I'd normally split a slab of feta over 4 lunches and felt a bit naughty this week having it over three; assuming that's a 200g/8oz slab of cheese it's over 500 calories in one go, even if that's not something we focus on. So maybe keep your eye on portions.
Not saying I don't eat other things I shouldn't mind, but my portion control except booze and buffets is ok. I often tell the story of my Mum sitting at weight watchers hearing "so you couldn't eat one of these large bars of Cadbury's in one go because that's like a whole day's food" and thinking she wouldn't dream of eating all that at once, and if that's what you lot do why am I here?!! Well Mum, perhaps because while you would never eat more than two biscuits in one go or two slices of bread, you might have two 3 times a day and a cake at lunch and a pudding at dinner? I think there's something about a fear of extravagance and wastefulness we've grown up wary of which allows some types of bad food habits and not others.

VeryLittleOwl · 20/06/2019 13:06

Mumble I think that's a very sensible way of doing things. I'm probably going to be doing the same on Saturday. I think the best way of keeping me on the wagon tomorrow in the chip shop will be knowing that I've got pizza to look forward to on Saturday. Of the two options, I think a handmade smoked venison and goats cheese pizza on the thinnest-imaginable base, leaving the crusts, is a better step off the wagon than a big box of macaroni bites and chips.

(BIWI's in Amsterdam now, right? Wink )

Almahart · 20/06/2019 13:48

Thanks Rayna that is a really useful reality check. I sometimes muddle up ‘this is a way of eating’ with ‘this is a woe to lose weight ‘

NigellaAwesome · 20/06/2019 14:27

I've checked the Paleo Way episode for the fish marinade sauce. It has garlic, mint, coriander, parsley, fresh chilli, cumin, paprika, turmeric, s&p, lemon juice and coconut oil.

Whizz together, use half on fish, fry the fish. Serve on the remaining half sauce.

He did a nice thing where he charred a half lemon on the grill then squeezed over for char lemon flavour.

18pagesfrontandback · 20/06/2019 15:31

That sounds lovely Nigella, I don’t have the fresh herbs atm so might not happen today, but will grab some when out and do that next time.

Thanks for the suggestions for fish, campers.

Rayna I can so relate to that. I am very aware when overdoing any ‘junk’, but def have a ‘mustn’t waste’ attitude to anything ‘normal’.

Apart from the odd attack of the munchies - cinema/epic hangover/seasonal celebrations/holidays - I’ve always actually eaten a very balanced diet. Mostly scratch cooked, low sugar, LOADS of veg/salad, and never been into squash or fizzy drinks. So how did I get fat? Stress (cortisol), lethargy (depression), comfort eating (boredom/breastfeeding early parenthood), alcohol (non prescribed stress relief medication), and getting into home cooking (again, mostly since dd arrival) and becoming a ‘feeder’. I cook good meals, I just serve too large portions! Over the years it massively adds up.

Pre dd, out of the house working full time, I would say I ate what and when I wanted - petite size 8, didn’t have to think about my weight. But looking back, I ate on demand, WHEN I was hungry, and only had myself to feed. Now I cook and eat ‘because it’s lunchtime’ ‘because it’s dinnertime’ and because I’m feeding a family so it’s all about hearty nutritious meals and no waste.

MumbleLumble · 20/06/2019 18:13

I've just had mashed celeriac for the first time. It smelt like celary while cooking (one of my least favourite foods) and did not have high hopes for the taste.... But it was soooo good! I added loads of butter, cream and garlic and was absolutely delicious! What a bastard to peel and cut though!
