Week 4 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - time to KOKO!

Morning all

Hopefully there will be some losses to record on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness but please don't be disheartened if you didn't lose (or even see a small gain.

Weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for this. Your body is getting used to the new regime, but if you stick to it, then you should see things get moving again from next week.

If you are struggling, make sure that you are following Bootcamp rules to the letter; consider whether or not dairy is an issue for you - and if you've moved to Bootcamp Light then perhaps consider going back to Bootcamp for another week or so?

Whatever the case, don't develop a case of the fuckits and jump head first into the biscuits. That's the only way to guarantee that you will gain weight!

Forgot to post yesterday.

Lunch was tortilla type thing with mushrooms and tomatoes and cheese. Served with dressed leaves.

Dinner spicy chicken wings and dressed leaves.

After a couple of days of reduced appetite and not eating in the evening, yesterday I went back for more and also picked in the run up to dinner. Admittedly dinner was late but not as late as not having it at all. The picking wasn't the best choices, some cold breaded chicken and a couple of chips. It was only a small amount but sadly I'm not one of those people who can slip off the wagon and still loose weight.

VeryLittleOwl · 05/06/2019 08:01

Youwanapizzame - fab difference already!

I have weighed in at 11st3lbs for the seventh morning in a row and am heartily sick of seeing that on the scales now. I switched them over into lbs, where it shows fractions of lbs, and am actually 11st2.8lbs, so maybe tomorrow it'll tick over? Please? At least the trend line on Libra is still heading downwards for now, but it's going to flatline soon!

IStillMissBlockbuster · 05/06/2019 08:06

I am thinking of cutting down on the number of eggs i'm having. I was having 2 boiled for breakfast but I think that is an awful lot per week, and that's before the crustless quiche I have for lunch. For now, 1 egg and some spinach might be the way for me. Until maybe I can face yoghurt which I generally find too damn tart without sugar.

Nameusernameuser · 05/06/2019 08:28

18pagesfrontandback the meatzza was on the end of the meat isle in our m&s! We lapped about 6 times to find it. The Texas meat lumps I posted were much nicer than the pizza and would be a great lunch. Don't eat the whole pizza in one go, because you will feel sick and get the meat sweats Grin I think they're lovely as a treat but I couldn't eat them all the time. I've got sausage meat in the freezer so will just make my own next time, but did feel a treat so if DP gets chips from the chippy as a treat I'll have one of those. I think I'll be full for the next week though Grin

Summery1 · 05/06/2019 08:35

Down a quarter lb!Hmm Smile
Still. Better than a gain. 11st 7 1/4 lbs. It's 6 lbs over 3 weeks so definitely worthwhile.
I am struggling with the 'no sugar/bread' but this IS bootcamp, and it's temporary. At 5ft 8 I'm just into a healthy BMI for the first time in years.
I'm reminding myself of the positives of this diet!

Significant weight loss!
6lbs over 3 weeks (that is easily twice as fast as my efforts at SW, - 20lb loss over 12 months!).

Weight loss around abdomen, which feels so healthy.

Convenient diet for eating out (this suits me).

Lots of lovely food 'allowed'. (Must try a 'bread' recipe).

People tell me my skin looks wonderful - has anyone else found this?

Please remind me of more positives- NSVs, good recipes, anything.

KOKO.

VeryLittleOwl · 05/06/2019 09:00

There's a Nigella meatzza recipe here - I'm guessing the oats would be a better option than the breadcrumbs in the base? www.nigella.com/recipes/meatzza

Notlostjustexploring · 05/06/2019 09:07

18pages I'm firmly on the wagon beside you again.

IStillMissBlockbuster regarding eggs, I remember asking in previous bootcamp if there was such a thing as too many eggs on this way of eating and I was assured not. If fact one of the bootcamp pillars, can't remember which one, had quite an impressive record for number of eggs consumed in a week.

For the record, I'm currently having 3 boiled eggs mashed with cheese and cream every morning and it is not uncommon to follow it up with an omelette for lunch.

prettybird · 05/06/2019 09:10

I tend to use grated Parmesan (and/or maybe ground almonds) instead of breadcrumbs or other "filler" for meatballs etc. I'm sure that would work for Meatzza too Smile

Notwatchingtvtoday · 05/06/2019 09:18

Morning all

Another 1 lb off which i’m So pleased with, I have been very strict with myself and I think for me reducing my dairy, eating eggs at lunch and tracking my water drinking has really helped. So that’s 8lbs in Total now .

1 cup of tea with milk
B total Greek yogurt 5% with tsp Marsacapone, 1 frozen raspberry crumbled into it and a small teaspoon on Linwoods flax seed mix
2 coffees with butter, whizzed up with stick blender
L Frittata made with eggs, chorizo, cherry tomato (1 per serving) feta (25g per serving) and spinach
D roast lamb with celaric mash and green veg

Has anyone else become territorial about their food? I have taken to putting my celaric mash in a small bowl next to my plate and batting others away from it 😀 I’m happy to make them their own carb stuff and yesterday they had some rather lovely looking stuff (I won’t describe for fear of causing hunger pains or derailment 😀) but they still look at mine. Normally I would make loads and let them help themselves but celaric is such a pain in the arse to prep and I can only find tiny ones in the shops at the moment so I have corralled it for myself 😀

Notwatchingtvtoday · 05/06/2019 09:23

Here is the Frittata I have made for lunch, I usually have a quarter of it and have divided the filling into 4 and put a quarter into each corner to try to ensure that all slices are equally nutritious

Week 4 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - time to KOKO!
venusandmars · 05/06/2019 09:39

The nigella meatzza looks yummy, I think I'll do that this week (with almond flour instead of breadcrumbs).

I seem to be in a bit of a stall, no weight loss for a week, in fact higher than the record low that I was last Friday. Just have to koko, and appreciate that I actually enjoy this woe, don't feel deprived (the exact opposite really) and that I feel healthy and well, rather than bloated and hungry.

B - boiled egg mashed with butter (horrid cold rain here so needed something comforting)
L - going out but there are some great choices on the menu, probably salmon with buttered spinach, capers and lemon (possibly with a glass of wine, but maybe just lots of water)
D - more of yesterday's chicken, chorizo and vegetable stew, with broccoli, courgettes and green beans

Off to drink more water before taking dog for a rainy, windy, chilly walk. Is it November?

venusandmars · 05/06/2019 09:40

@Notwatchingtvtoday that frittata looks wonderful!

There are so many good things to eat on this woe that there aren't enough days in the week to have them all!

Grimbles · 05/06/2019 10:17

Yesterdays food was:

Lunch: pork scratchings, chilli and garlic prawns, rollitos.

My lunches tend to be more snacking as I usually have a baby to deal with so stuff I can eat 1 handed are preferred Grin

Dinner was meatballs in a chilli tomato sauce. I added spinach to the sauce to reduce down a bit and the topped off with guacamole and cheese.

NigellaAwesome · 05/06/2019 10:22

@Notwatchingtvtoday that frittata looks lovely!

Yes, I have become extremely territorial about food. I bought rollitos and 3 meatzzas yesterday. Gave one to my DM, I ate another, and the remainder of my hoard is hidden at the back of the fridge.

There were cross words had the other day over DH picking at the leftover broccoli I had planned for the next meal. He doesn't seem to understand that when I make double of something, it is to do us a second day, rather than providing him with a tasty grazing snack from the big lit up cupboard in the kitchen aka the fridge.

I actually really dislike eating with my DH - whilst I love him dearly, he has the most enormous portions, wolfs food down at a rate of knots without chewing, then proceeds to immediately graze from the fridge because he's still hungry. No shit sherlock. Hmm

BIWI · 05/06/2019 10:30

@Notlostjustexploring not good! You need to think about why you did that, and why you're prepared to sabotage yourself. Did you even enjoy it?! Sorry about the toddler illness though - hope they recover swiftly

@Summery1 if you're feeling sluggish then you're probably a) not eating enough b) not having enough fat and c) not enough water! Your food yesterday looks like it could be lower in fat and protein than it should be, but also a bit higher in carbs than it should be

I am struggling with the 'no sugar/bread' but this IS bootcamp, and it's temporary.

Given all the positives that you then go on to list, why do you think this is temporary?! Also, beware that if you consider this just a temporary way of eating, and plan to revert to a high carb diet once Bootcamp is over, all that will happen is that you will gain weight.

That's not to say that you can't include more carbs in your diet when you reach your target, but remember it's the carbs that made you gain weight in the first place!

@IStillMissBlockbuster why are you considering cutting down on eggs? They are fantastic low carb food - full of fat and protein and virtually no carbohydrate. There's no need to limit them.

@Notwatchingtvtoday

I have taken to putting my celaric mash in a small bowl next to my plate and batting others away from it 😀 I’m happy to make them their own carb stuff and yesterday they had some rather lovely looking stuff (I won’t describe for fear of causing hunger pains or derailment 😀) but they still look at mine

I know what you mean about celeriacs being difficult to peel as well as being rather small at the moment, but please tell me that you're not cooking separate meals all the time?! That's just making a rod for your own back as well as making it more likely that you're not going to stick to this in the longer term. There's nothing wrong with your family having lower carb alternatives from time-to-time

@venusandmars

I seem to be in a bit of a stall, no weight loss for a week, in fact higher than the record low that I was last Friday. Just have to koko, and appreciate that I actually enjoy this woe, don't feel deprived (the exact opposite really) and that I feel healthy and well, rather than bloated and hungry

Absolutely the right way to approach it. And a stall isn't just one week without weight loss. You know how this works! KOKO and it will be fine.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 05/06/2019 11:26

@Notwatchingtvtoday - agreed, that frittata looks delish.

All this talk of eggs has inspired me to get some more into my general diet. I have a few a week - maybe 4-5 - but am going to look at upping it I think.

My period arrived today, so hopefully that is the reason for my rogue 1lb on overnight on Sunday and then scales failing to budge. We shall see!

Summery1 · 05/06/2019 11:36

Thanks for the feedback BIWI

I plan to have a little oatmeal/brown bread after bootcamp. And fruit. I didn't think very low carb was healthy long term - but I stand to be corrected.

I struggle to drink the water. It is quite cold here 11-14°. I blame that, but I'm home & children are in school so no excuse.
B. Scrambled eggs with spinach & feta. Asparagus and tomato.
L: salmon with pesto and green salad dressed with olive oil. Coffee with cream.
Snack: homemade stock with cream. (Was delish)
D: fridge pickings - 4 feta stuffed chillis, coleslaw, paté, small spoon of peanut butter, square of 80% chocolate.

Where would you cut the carbs here? I thought it was quite good. Yes the peanut butter and chocolate were naughty, but very small portions. Blush

Summery1 · 05/06/2019 11:39

I blame wine and the snacking that followed for my weight gain. Blush

Youwanapizzame · 05/06/2019 12:11

Morning campers (just)

Full on at work at the mo! But I quite like it.

B - Sausage and Bacon
l - Ham Salad
D - cauliflower gammon and cheese bake delightfulness.

All good in the hood here. Have a great day everyone

Rayna37 · 05/06/2019 12:59

@m0therofdragons just recalled I meant to respond to your post from yesterday morning about losing the last half stone to target:

Lots of variables: much will depend on how much you've already lost and how tough your target is (i.e. just inside healthy BMI or nearer the bottom of the band) but you might need to change a few things yes. It also of course depends on how strict you have been up to this point and how tolerant your body is to carbs. You might need to switch to keeping almost all of your veg in the green zone, seriously limit dairy, keep BC lite things such as alcohol, nuts/seeds and fruit to a real minimum. My body is relatively tolerant to carbs and if I just bloody follow the rules 100% I'll normally lose, but others find cutting down on things like creamy coffee, limiting the squares of 85% chocolate, swapping breakfast yogurt for eggs, and largely eating dinners of fatty meat/fish with FLGV rather than the more complex recipes and carb replacements is the way to go. Be wary of anything we're allowed in moderation. Oh and of course...

WATER WATER WATER!

BIWI · 05/06/2019 13:20

@Youwanapizzame woah! A lot of processed meat going on there!

@Summery1 Why would you think low carb is unhealthy? Have you read any of the resources on the spreadsheet about the science behind it?

In terms of your meal ' fridge pickings': 4 feta stuffed chillis, coleslaw, paté, small spoon of peanut butter, square of 80% chocolate it looks like only the chillies would be carb-free or low carb. Coleslaw and pâté could both be quite carby as well. And the amount of carbs in the peanut butter could also be quite high depending on the brand you have. All this could add up!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/06/2019 13:57

I am still loving this WOE. A friend asked me how I am this morning (in a genuine, I've just vented at you for 20 minutes, now I want to know how you are way) and I was able to answer "I'm good. I'm really good."

I look better (another one here with lovely skin, it looks glowy, which I had not expected at the wrong side of 40!) and, odd bouts of sadness notwithstanding, I feel better. I'm sleeping better and I have loads of energy. If I'd known how good this would make me feel, I'd have tried it years ago!

Notlostjustexploring · 05/06/2019 13:57

BIWI I'm afraid to say that I really, really enjoyed my chocolate trip off the wagon, even if the sugar made me feel a bit meh afterwards. I wouldn't even say I was sabotaging myself as I have done in the past. I just really really like chocolate. It was more a case of yielding readily to temptation. This is why I just avoid those aisles and petrol stations. At least until a long period of abstinence reduces the cravings.

On the bright side, my step off the wagon was only 3 small bars of good stuff instead of two family sized ones which would have been my usual choice, so I think my behaviours are subtly changing.

I'm taking my knuckle rapping and I'll go eat my cheesy tuna salad that awaits me. Although any tips on reigning in chocolate cravings will be gratefully received...Blush

Notlostjustexploring · 05/06/2019 14:08

Although too much information...I seem to have been left with a dodgy tummy today after my little sidestep...

m0therofdragons · 05/06/2019 14:20

Thank you @Rayna37

I've lost 1st 11lbs since January and the target it mid range bmi so hopefully achievable. It's the weight I was between dd1 and dtds.

I've definitely gone with water, water, water because halfway through interviewing candidates this morning I needed to wee for England! Grin I'll keep going.

Haven't reached my target for today as still bouncing the same 1lb around. It is disheartening when the scales refuse to budge out of the 10s. Koko; maybe by Monday?!
