Week 4 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - time to KOKO!

BIWI · 03/06/2019 08:41

Morning all

Hopefully there will be some losses to record on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness but please don't be disheartened if you didn't lose (or even see a small gain.

Weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for this. Your body is getting used to the new regime, but if you stick to it, then you should see things get moving again from next week.

If you are struggling, make sure that you are following Bootcamp rules to the letter; consider whether or not dairy is an issue for you - and if you've moved to Bootcamp Light then perhaps consider going back to Bootcamp for another week or so?

Whatever the case, don't develop a case of the fuckits and jump head first into the biscuits. That's the only way to guarantee that you will gain weight!

blackteaplease · 08/06/2019 06:27

@pizza fantastic weight loss, thanks for sharing your photos

@m0ther I'm the same height as you and also was 9 stone 4 once upon a time. Well done on getting into the 9's. I'm currently fluctuating around 160lbs with a lot to lose before I get there.

Whoever mentioned frozen spinach thank you. I used to buy this all the time and forgot about it. I'm adding that to my shopping list now.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 08/06/2019 07:52

Summery1 Do you have a good recipe for Hollandaise sauce that you wouldn't mind sharing? I'd love that for a lil muffinless eggs florentine.

Thank you to people giving their heights! I am (last time I checked) 5'8.5. Started this very bootcamp at 11.3 and was at last weighing, 10.10. That is back to my pre holiday binging, "have been this weight for years" weight and I am very happy. I am now getting a bit ambitious and seeing if I gan get down to 10'5 or something.

Yesterday was a tough day though. My work had an away day. So breakfast was fine, I had yoghurt and 2 strawberries. Then lunch, I felt SO anti social because they'd bought a huge spread from M&S but it was ALL sandwiches/wraps, crisps, chocolates and an incredible selection of cream cakes. Literally nothing I could eat. I had anticipated this and brought a slice of crustless quiche but I felt quite ungrateful and embarrassed. I had made some oreo/cream cheese truffles and resisted all of this all day.
The evening we all went to an Indian restaurant and I had chicken Tikka Masala (no rice or naan). Hopefully that was all ok.

I hope I didn't ruin it because when I got home, I had two Oreo/cream cheese truffles. I'm scared to admit that here Grin. But I did think that total deprivation is likely to lead to a massive binge at some point, plus, there was probably only half to one Oreo per truffle...I'm giving the rest to the in laws today because these things really are like Cryptonite Grin.

I also struggled with water a little bit because early in the day, I discovered that my 700ml bottle has black mould in it [vom emoji here]. Will deal with that today and WATER WATER WATER!

IStillMissBlockbuster · 08/06/2019 08:22

Is cooking with alcohol allowed? Coq au vin and chicken in cider and bacon are really delicious and I want them...

m0therofdragons · 08/06/2019 08:24

@blackteaplease I started boot camp on 20 January weighing 164lbs. I didn't feel that big but my clothes were too tight and I started buying 14s. I'm now a size 12 and feeling much better except my saggy skin tummy but I don't know how much weight loss can help there as it's more twins related.

Youwanapizzame · 08/06/2019 08:39

@Mother that's really good! Great loss. Don't worry about the mum tum. I don't think anyone really looks or noticed apart from ourselves... my arms are awful but I still sometimes wear sleeveless...I just give myself a pep talk that No ones interested in me and if they are they should have better things to be worried about...

Anyone know if the cream cheese pancakes are a bit eggy? I can eat eggs as an ingredient but HATE them. I'd honestly rather eat my own eyeball than a boiled egg!!! Yik

Off swimming today (not exercising but with the girls) then might go to a fete if it cheers up!

Youwanapizzame · 08/06/2019 08:44

Actually I felt really tempted by things yesterday. I WANTED a croissant at breakfast and if there had been one I might have succumbed.... I couldn't stop thinking about bread and other off limit food.... sigh. Only one more week until were off on holiday...

tootstastic · 08/06/2019 08:44

@Youwanapizzame incredible difference in your photos. Well done!

Interesting all the different heights and different goals. I'm 5' 7" (quite a solid build) and I still have a long way to go, but my 'dream' goal is 9st 5lbs. I'm not sure how I'll look at that weight. The lowest I've been is 9st 10lbs and I was slim, but not super slim. So the goal may alter along the way, but I really want to get ALL of the excess weight off this time around, once and for all and be happy with how I look and feel. The difference this time is that I'm doing lots of exercise, so hoping being toned may make all the difference. That's the plan anyway, whether it's possible remains to be seen!

Youwanapizzame · 08/06/2019 08:45

I worked out what my height would have to be to be in the healthy range at current weight.... it was 6ft 3. 🤣😂🤣😂

tootstastic · 08/06/2019 08:50

SittingontheSidelines · 08/06/2019 09:15

@Youwanapizzame I thought that was funny till I discovered I need to be 6ft 9. However wasn't there talk earlier in the thread of @BIWI starting a grow yourself some inches boot camp. I'll definitely be adding myself to the list. Perhaps if I do both boot camps at once I can settle half way at around 6ft 2. Grin

Notwatchingtvtoday · 08/06/2019 09:16

Morning all, great photos youwannapizza and thank you very much BIWI for your help on the other thread.

I’ve logged my weight on the spreadsheet as we are away next week, 10 stone 7, so that’s 8lbs off which is brilliant and has made me feel and look so much better, thank you all for support and encouragement.

I had a NSV yesterday, I had bought a dress for my hols, thought I would try it on and shock it was too big, as i had not worn it and it still had all the tags I took it back and they refunded me and I bought it in the smaller size but with 30% off 😀

B Greek yogurt and sprinkles of flax and 1 raspberry
L eggs of some sort
D Steak , celaric mash (leftover) green veg incl asparagus

MrsBertBibby · 08/06/2019 09:25

You wanna, if you are really craving breadiness, try making those almond scone thingies. They really hit the spot for me before, when I didn't feel I could go another day without something fo spread butter on.

www.wholesomeyum.com/recipes/paleo-almond-flour-biscuits-low-carb-gluten-free/

They mean biscuits like Americans do. I e scone-like things

Rayna37 · 08/06/2019 09:26

Well I'm in for a slightly random weekend in the camper van but we've a fridge full of snacky treaty LCHF food from M&S and some chilli I made earlier in the week. I've recovered from my panic at being catapulted from reserve to running a leg of a crazy relay as I have a flat scenic route of 9 miles ish, think I'll make the cut off and then can start my holiday feeling proud of myself.

Notwatchingtvtoday · 08/06/2019 09:31

Rayna37 that sounds like a great weekend, my husband would love a campervan, which is a maybe for a few years time when he retires. Have fun and good luck with the run

Youwanapizzame · 08/06/2019 09:34

Thanks @Mrsbertbibby I'll try those.

I made some pancakes I'll load a pic Tuesday even I'm back at work omg they're amazing like American pancake I'm eating it now topped with butter and bacon

prettybird · 08/06/2019 09:40

If you like cinnamon, you could also add some cinnamon to the pancake "batter" to mask the taste of eggs.

18pagesfrontandback · 08/06/2019 10:08

That’s my kind of NSV Notwatching! Losing unwanted pounds, while saving useful ones.
Being overweight probably usually causes the opposite effect!

Great pic Youwanapizzame. Not just your 2nd boob but your tum has pulled in so much at the bottom too.

Loving all the food and height chat. And YES to increasing height. All great things come in small packages my arse. I hate it down here

Am going to check myself on the BMI chart to see how much I need to grow.
It was called ‘Lengthened Calves, High Foreheads’ but I can’t remember which poster it was. I want to say Venus but my memory is shite so apols to whomever it was.
(Unless it was actually Venus in which case do I get a medal for my awe inspiring memory?)

I would have enjoyed the karma of Rayna’s dh glovebox Lindt melt, but that would have been bad karma on my part so I haven’t enjoyed that thought. Not one little bit...

And fwiw Rayna - I think frozen veg has come a long way. Certainly from the ming water logged bags of tasteless cauli/carrot/broc I remember from childhood.

I haven’t tried any mixed veg types myself so can’t comment on them. And I don’t use broc or cauli (or carrots) individually for similar reasons as above. Though would try cauli/broc in a cheese bake I guess?

But the individually frozen bags of various green beans, spinach, sprouts, peas, sweetcorn, squash, herbs have all been good (not all LC friendly obvs).

I’ve not tried leeks or onions but would. Though imagine leeks might be quite watery? And if I could find some frozen swede that would be fab. Have only ever found it mixed with carrot.
If anyone else has any frozen veg recommendations please post them.

Also, things like spinach are worth thawing first or at least managing to allow for extra water content - e.g making omelettes. I nuke a few blocks for a 1.5mins before chucking in pan. Speeds up cooking.

Shagme do you mean you don’t eat because not hungry? If so, I get that some days. Then others I absolutely feast. Keepin it real blud all low carb too though, so am sure it’s must be a ‘normal’ effect of this woe. I go through phases where every 3rd or 4th day I’ll feel like I’m pigging out all day long - usually lots of fat. Then I’ll go a few days not eating all day and still no massive appetite in evening. Must be to do with the old ‘feast and famine’ thing.

18pagesfrontandback · 08/06/2019 10:37

Those pancakes look so good. I might have to make them despite fact that I was never bothered about pancakes before this woe Grin It’s something about the textures you miss on LC though isn’t it?

Does almond meal = ground almonds or is it finer?

venusandmars · 08/06/2019 11:49

@Rayna I'm thinking 'so many similarities' height, weight, goals, spending this week in a campervan.... Then I got yo the bit about running 9 miles!

m0therofdragons · 08/06/2019 12:00

Frozen veg is good in stuff, like a vegetable curry or to bulk out bolognese. Frozen carrots are disgusting though. Frozen butternut squash is fab in a chicken curry made in the slow cooker. And frozen onions are a revelation!

Park run completed and nearly ran the whole killer hill at the end, just a little walk in the last bit because I felt sick! Not my best time as I had to stop 3 times to allow sheep to pass (they rightly have priority) including one time when at least 40 sheep and lambs crossed over Grin

mrwalkensir · 08/06/2019 14:36

Anybody else feeling smug today as the addition of coleslaw means that you can eat salad outside in a high wind?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/06/2019 15:24

Lunch out again today and I had a delicious pork cutlet with bacon, mushrooms, asparagus and cabbage in a red wine jus. Was supposed to come with colcannon but I asked them to leave that off and didn't miss it all - was a huge portion anyway.

I suppose the jus may well have flour in it, but it was fairly thin so I doubt there was much.
