Morning all

Hopefully there will be some losses to record on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness but please don't be disheartened if you didn't lose (or even see a small gain.

Weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for this. Your body is getting used to the new regime, but if you stick to it, then you should see things get moving again from next week.

If you are struggling, make sure that you are following Bootcamp rules to the letter; consider whether or not dairy is an issue for you - and if you've moved to Bootcamp Light then perhaps consider going back to Bootcamp for another week or so?

Whatever the case, don't develop a case of the fuckits and jump head first into the biscuits. That's the only way to guarantee that you will gain weight!

Really lovely food today:
B: asparagus and scrambled egg
Snack of manchego and walnuts
L: leftover paneer and veg curry; yogurt with tsp almond butter
D: beef mince chilli with green peppers. I added extra mushrooms to mine and only a few beans. Grated cheese on top!
About there with water I think!

Riggins definitely needs to be a catchphrase, it's so easy to fall behind on water!

BIWI · 05/06/2019 19:19

@IStillMissBlockbuster you're absolutely right that variety is key! However, with regard to that study, the other thing to point out that no allowance was made for people who ate eggs but followed a low carbohydrate diet - which is known to reduce your (bad) cholesterol levels. So I really wouldn't worry about having 2 eggs a day!

@BallonSlayer - brilliant news! Star.

@SittingontheSidelines beware the peanuts! 10.9g carbs per 100g - and it's very easy to eat that much (or more!)

And Star for you @ShagMeRiggins - great post, and so true.

WATER, WATER, WATER!
Grin

@Almahart I use creme fraiche as a curry base and for the white sauce in lasagna (when I'm eating pasta) or just in a layered bolognese thing when I'm low carbing. It's fab Grin

Youwanapizzame · 05/06/2019 20:01

I know it's been discussed before but what's a nice creamy plain yogurt. I do find them sour. Pref available at Tesco but could do Aldi

blackteaplease · 05/06/2019 20:06

@youwannapizzame have you tried adding a little cream to the yogurt? It takes the edge off.

I buy tesco finest Greek yogurt, it's quite rich

Youwanapizzame · 05/06/2019 20:15

@blackteaplease ooooh yes that is nice. I've added that yog to my shop though thanks!

Rayna37 · 05/06/2019 20:17

Youwannapizzame I'd say Aldi is one of the more sour/less tasty ones. Waitrose is great. Probably won't help but I have an amazing one in a big tub from Costco on the go.
I also recommend Onken set yogurt- it's as low carb as Greek and widely available. Great if you're not keen on the Greek ones.

readyforsunshine · 05/06/2019 20:20

That’s fantastic balloon & mumble, well done!
I’m losing a bit of enthusiasm today, I get easily bored if there’s no show in the scales. Stayed strong as I could easily have derailed & had a takeaway & wine tonight I was SO in the mood!
Today was
Coconut berry pancakes w yoghurt
Leftover cold pork with cauli cheese
Salmon lettuce ‘taco’

Notwatchingtvtoday · 05/06/2019 20:26

Hi BIWI don’t worry, i’m Cooking the same for the family, except when they have eg potatoes, bread etc, I have Celaric mash, ( they would like both the potatoes and MY celaric mash BUT I am refusing to share 😀 as I don’t want the extra prep that it would take. I’m happy to share cauliflower mash, but not Celaric as I find the nobly —little f*kers— hard work to prep and I can also only find tiny ones at my supermarket.

NoYesBut so glad it’s not your gallbladder and that your back

NigellaAwesome · 05/06/2019 20:42

I bought an amazing vegetable peeler from Lakeland a couple of years ago that is so sharp it slices through celeriac like butter. I went to add a link to here and they no longer do them. How annoying.

Notwatchingtvtoday · 05/06/2019 20:47

NigellaAwesome I love a trip to Lakeland, I will pop in and ask them if they have anything else that might be good for Celaric

venusandmars · 05/06/2019 20:52

Smile at the different approaches to family food.

We get a veg box delivered and every second week there are potatoes. Dh and I eat the same meal but I often add rice, pasta or potato to his. When we have them in the veg box I always encourage dh to eat potatoes. He says: 'no that looks ok without them, the spinach and cauliflower will do me'. Me: "eat the bloody potatoes!!" so I can most of the spinach / cauliflower

venusandmars · 05/06/2019 20:59

I think that some people(irl) think low carb is like Atkins or the Dukkan diet, and is all protein and pretty much no carbs.

This woe does include carbs it is just that most of they come from leafy-type veg. It seems to me that it is a VERY healthy way to eat carbs.

When I'm not on boot camp I stick to bc rules but have a small amount of complex carbs about once a week (from beans / lentils etc not from processed or refined sources like flour, bread, pasta...). And nothing with sugar. On a day that I have carbs I have less fat.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 05/06/2019 21:19

Very late checking in, I had a pretty bad half term, suffer from depression and not having a school routine really makes it bad, seeing people (fb so I know it's crap) out with their friends when I was stuck at home with the kids bickering on my own all day made it worse.. However I would usually have ended up bei g a carby twat but I haven't been too bad, had too much red wine though. Down another 2lbs at least, hoping this weekend I can get out for a run, get back into feeling fitter.
Haven't been posting what I'm eating and I should, it helps.
B. Yoghurt and strawbs
L. Quiche made with cauli crust and salad
D. Belly pork, green beans, spinach, asparagus
Did well, not great on water, unfortunately DH arrived home from working in Germany with proper dark choc Toblerone... With the right number of triangles and everything. Stopped myself at one. At this rate I'd hope it will last a year or so...
My goal is a big fancy ball for work, got a sparkly dress, want to have no mum yum by then... Another 5lbs would be amazing. Its at the end of the month so I need to really stick to it for the next 4 weeks.

tootstastic · 05/06/2019 21:21

I'm a three eggs a day girl and I'm not concerned about cholesterol. I had it checked after low-carbing a few years ago and my levels were very good. I just think eggs are fabulously nutritious and it's so quick to rustle up buttery scrambled eggs for breakfast, it's what I have most days (sometimes with spinach, plus meat/veg leftovers thrown in, sometimes just on their own).

Chuckling at the territorial behaviour over our 'special' low-carb food. I'm exactly the same! Waitrose chorizo de Leon is brilliant for snacking when on the run and far too expensive to share. Little bags of almonds and extra dark choc are squirrelled away at the back of the cupboard and babybels, strawberries and crispy bacon strips are in the drawer in the fridge that I've commandeered. I don't snack that often, but I would not be responsible for my actions if they weren't there when I fancied something. DH knows it's more than his life's worth!

I'm noticing I'm becoming more toned since I've upped the gym sessions. Weight loss is slow, but reasonably steady and I'm happy with that for now. My clothes shopping habit is slightly worrying totally out of fucking control but it's so nice to fit into 'normal' clothes, I am justifying it to myself. I deserve it surely?!

Doilooklikeatourist · 05/06/2019 21:28

youwantapizzamei like the Tesco Greek yoghurt , it’s cheap , not sharp and is lovely with a drop of double cream , 1 raspberry and the low carb nutty granola

Hallo again RightYesButNo 😀

I love Lakeland , bought an almost magic contraption that looks like a veg peeler , but cuts into julienne strips

Bought a celeriac , was planning a remoulade, but the weather forecast is awful , so might make dauphinois instead 🌧

I had a credit note / gift card for M & S and bought some of the manchengo and Serrano rollitas , very nice , might have had then for dinner with some cheddar, but all in all a good day

B cheese omlette
L HM coleslaw , ham
D .. not hungry , so had some cheddar , feta stuffed mini pepper x 4 and manchngo rollitas with some Sauvi b

Managed over 16000 steps , 67 active minutes ( that probably included trying to get the sofa cushions back into the covers that I’d washed )

Notwatchingtvtoday · 05/06/2019 21:58

YouCantScareMeIHavechildren Flowers hope you feel better now your back in a routine. I have bad days too, so please know your not alone

SittingontheSidelines · 05/06/2019 22:08

@BIWI you are right, it is easy to overdo peanuts and I did. I'm putting nuts firmly back in the not allowed drawer.

I did eat (late) dinner on top of the afternoon snack. Not a proper meal and not a particularly nutritious one. All In all a bad day and definitely tied to my mood, feeling vaguely anxious and out of step with the world. Roll on tomorrow and a fresh new day.

@tootstastic you definitely deserve it.

MumbleLumble · 05/06/2019 22:25

Totally agree re nuts. I find them really addictive and have to limit myself.

I've been meaning to ask for a while, but does anyone here have pcos? I've heard that low carb is great for it but I haven't noticed any changes yet. Just wondering if anyone else has any experience?

Heartyhooker · 05/06/2019 22:38

@Yesbutno glad it's not your gallbladder. I think Dr Berg has utub e videos about fatty liver, he is sensible not yay, dry fasting is amazing utuber.

@Youcantscareme. Half term is hard it's the lack of personal space that does my head in. Depression is a soding awful illness speaking from personal experience, please be kind to yourself, and speak to yourself as nicely as you would a friend.

Right food related stuff

Cheese and creamy coffee
Buttered chicken sliced
Bolognese with spinach
Water water water.

Had two occasions to go into work, tutor who had ofstead following her about and night staff meeting that just finished, schoolrun and the suspense of end of year play parts not yet being given.ds 1 one of four boys who had to sing a solo today.

Am pondering which veg would go with puttenescca, unless capers are high in carbs

prettybird · 05/06/2019 23:06

Made a shepherd's pie base today from minced left over roast lamb, with blitzed leek, shallot, carrot, a cube of chopped spinach, a can of tomatoes, and a generous squoosh of Worcestershire sauce. Dh and ds decided they'd prefer spag Bol (plus I didn't have a cauliflower for the mash and couldn't be bothered preparing a celeriac Wink). Didn't have a courgette to make "tagliatelle" so instead microwaved some frozen whole spinach with chopped garlic and butter. Served with a generous amount of grated Parmesan. Yummy Smile

Week 4 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - time to KOKO!
1stMrsF · 05/06/2019 23:17

@RightYesButNo non-alcoholic fatty liver is caused by high carb diet. There is a good chapter on it in Why we get fat by Gary Taubes. Very pleased you are back with us!

I am finding it hard to stick to the rules. I think it's because I'm not organised and planning like I was before, because things are so busy at work and home. However, scales are moving downwards slowly and I'm gradually getting back into good habits. Got an Ocado delivered today with chicken thighs and mince and salmon... easy things I can cook with FLGV and quick creamy sauces for easy meals. Yesterday's dinner was the absolute last scrapings from the fridge - a piece of leek and cheddar frittata with homemade coleslaw and lettuce with Caesar dressing.
Food today:
L a very not BC scotch egg (the salad bar option for school dinner. Alternative was a breaded veggie burger Hmm) with iceberg, cucumber, green beans and coleslaw.
D - garlic and herb chicken breasts (Waitrose easy to cook - I'll pop them on the food thread. A really good option for easy food) with Boursin spinach and ts broccoli with olive oil and lemon juice. Some water. Not enough.

MrsBertBibby · 05/06/2019 23:21

Oh God I need a chef. I have sat here this evening mainlining cheese. No energy to cook. Work was ridiculous, piles of family crap and my other half who generally occasions good behaviour is away.

Must do better tomorrow.

Summery1 · 06/06/2019 00:14

I've recently started on statins due to high cholestrol - it's genetic, I'm about 26BMI, and I exercise regularly. I'm due back to my GP tomorrow for follow up bloods to see how my cholestrol is now. (GP knows I'm going LCHF diet).

So we'll see if 3 eggs, 3 portions of meat, generous helpings of cream and butter per day, are ok for my metabolism or not. I believe I've lost some abdominal fat, so I'm optimistic.

Food:
B: 3 eggs with spinach and feta.
L: Caesar salad
Snack: drumstick
D: mushrooms, courgette, Asparagus and chicken, with cream.

Not too bad looking back (I think).

yesbutno hopefully this BC is exactly the help you need.

RightYesButNo · 06/06/2019 01:58

Thanks for the welcome back all and @BIWI

Thanks, to @BIWI and @1stMrsF! That’s good to know for sure re: carbs and LCHF being the best WOE for this. I didn’t want to Google it too much until my doc calls me tomorrow and tells me the “official results,” as I didn’t want to scare myself, ha. I’m sure everybody knows... the 2am Google search... where it tells you that twinge in your elbow is hepatitis-cancer-lupus Hmm

Also, thank you @HeartyHooker (giggling at your name - are you into crochet or, er, fishing???) for the advice of those videos. I’ll take a look at them!
