Starting tomorrow's thread early as I'm not around in the morning

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So far there seem to be some great results already, so I'm hoping they've continued over the weekend.

I love this week because the first weigh-ins are often spectacular, but also all those who were less than convinced are amazed how much they've lost!

It really sounds to me like people have really got to grips with this WOE, which is fantastic.

Here's to you all, and wishing you a good result on the scales tomorrow. (Or with the tape measure or the clothes you're trying on, if that's your preferred method of monitoring progress!)

Right, who was it who suggested taking pictures in clothes you want to get back into as a way of tracking shape change?? Thank you, it's just given me a very big boot up the backside to keep the motivation strong in week 2! I have an old pair of size 10 Topshop shorts and I couldn't get them all the way over my bottom Blush (Which shows how sizing has changed - I'm sitting here in size 12 FatFace jeans which are slightly loose).

Anyway, there was a picture of Jennifer Aniston in Closer magazine last week and the text beside it says she credits a low-carb, high-fat, gluten-free (probably a given with the other two!) diet plus 20 minutes of yoga daily and four sessions a week with a personal trainer for keeping her in shape. Now, I know that image has been Photoshopped to death, but she looks great in paparazzi shots as well and DH has a massive crush on her Smile so that page has been ripped out and stuck on the fridge door, and when those Topshop shorts are fitting properly again I'm going to go and see a friend who does boudoir photography and get her to recreate the picture with me in it.

I have a way to go, but I am determined to get there, however long it takes!

@VeryLittleOwl go you! It is very motivating - here are my ski trouser pics from last year, I think I took pictures once a month...

Oh that has really made me chuckle VeryLittleOwl Grin
I am so doing this today, chances of me posting it are slim to zero atm but you never know!
So inspired by your go get ‘em attitude this morning and love that the pic (of DH crush) is on the fridge - if that doesn’t shout BRING IT ON, I don’t know what does. You will wipe the floor with JA!

And yes to sizing changes!

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 08:56

And wow way of the world the difference in a couple of months is incredible isn’t it! I bloody love this woe.

I know I took some pictures of myself at heaviest weight, possibly last time I was fasting. Not sure if I burned deleted them though, will have to have a trawl through a million pics to find them. Would be great to see the real before and after, rather than just from here.

DrBuckles · 21/05/2019 08:57

Good idea blacktea

So breakfast is always coffee with cream (I hate breakfast so this is my compromise!)

Lunch will be either halloumi, mozzarella, tuna or chicken salad with mayo.

Dinners have been things like roast chicken with skin, pork steaks, chicken with prosciutto, meatballs with sides of various combinations of spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli all cooked in butter.

I’ve had pork scratchings twice since we started as a snack as I know snacks aren’t really allowed.

3-4 litres of water. If I’m at work (3/4 mornings a week) I’ll have an extra cup of black coffee.

m0therofdragons · 21/05/2019 09:05

@DrBuckles are you having enough green veg? I basically aim for meals to have lots of green veg (cooked in butter) then a standard meat portion. I do allow an evening snack of cheese (and later in BC it'll be dark chocolate).

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 09:06

DrBuckles it could still be carb flu. It’s not just electrolytes that make you feel rough, it’s the process of your body switching over from primarily burning carbs for fuel, to burning fat. It can take about 4-6 weeks to transition.

Everybody will have a different experience, but if this is your first time properly LC then it could well be that? I know the first time I did it, I felt completely wiped for a good few weeks. Stuck with it though (because I’d read a lot on keto forums and was expecting it) and when I came through the other side, I was practically bouncing off the walls with energy and had never felt better. Since then I’ve found it much quicker to transition - couple of weeks. But that first time was much worse. (Don’t know if you’ve done this before.)

If you can, KOKO and it might pass. Up your fat, keep taking your electrolytes and post your food diary for help as pp mentioned ^

Ninkaninus · 21/05/2019 09:13

Agree, could still be carb flu. Sorry, I know it’s rough. Flowers

My first instinct was to wonder what the balance of meat/protein to veg is in your meals, and I’m still thinking that you might not be having enough veg. As an example a steak with 6-8 asparagus spears isn’t anywhere near enough IMO.

I’m sure BIWI will be along soon to offer some advice too. But KOKO, you will get through it and it will be worth it.

VeryLittleOwl · 21/05/2019 09:15

WayOfTheWorld - that's amazing! More inspiration for me Grin

18pages - just having pics on your phone will give you something to refer back to on those days when it seems like you've stalled and realise that you've made progress.

I figured I'm doing the same WOE as JA, I can do 20 minutes of yoga a day thanks to YouTube - we're a bit short of nearby personal trainers, but on my to-do list for today is a foot inspection for two of my sheep who are limping slightly, so I think catching 2 x 80kg ewes, wrestling them until they're sitting on their backsides against my legs and then holding a kicking foot still enough to see what needs doing to it, aided only by a slightly daft collie who prefers driving sheep away from me to going round them and bringing them towards me, is probably a decent enough workout for today. First it's a trip into town for some yoghurt though, as I'd rather not be doing it in this rain!

B: yoghurt and double cream
L: Turkey salad
S: Not a clue. There's chicken and beef mince in the fridge, so will see what DH decides to make.

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 09:17

*that is... there is carb flu (withdrawal from carbs) and then there is also the process of becoming ‘fat adapted’. So could be either one affecting you depending on how strict you’ve been/when you started.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/05/2019 09:18

Guess what guess what GUESS WHAT???!

I've lost 8lbs!! In a week! I was sure I was looking slimmer and could pinch less fat round my middle, but 8lbs!!! I know a lot of it's water but still!

BIWI, I can't thank you enough - it genuinely feels like a miracle to have found a way to lose weight that doesn't leave me hungry and miserable - and even more miraculously, actually enjoying food! Thank you so much - and don't worry, I will KOKO!

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 09:21

Oh blimey VeryLittleOwl Grin yes, I can see how that would be quite the work out. Getting to look at my dogs cut paw is hard enough. You must be quite the wrestler! And as somebody with a Collie cross I can sympathise with the heading (at great chuffing speed) in the wrong direction bit! Hmm

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 09:22

Fab news Greenbol! Now get your tightest shorts/trousers on and take a pic Grin

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/05/2019 09:30

Ha, @18pagesfrontandback, maybe when I lose another 8!

That's given me a BMI of 26 instead of 27 too.

Rshard · 21/05/2019 09:41

That’s cool verylittleowl I remember wayoftheworld’s ski trouser progress too. A great idea to track progress - I will have a dig about in my wardrobe this evening I think.

Well done greebol!

limberlost · 21/05/2019 09:53

I couldn't get on the spreadsheet but I am following. Weight loss of 4.2lbs this week. I follow a gluten free diet and restrict carbs anyway so I am very pleased with this. In recent times I have had a low of 11.9 but have put back on to a high of 13.5. Started this one at 13.2.6 on my scales. Still better than the all time high of 15.00.

I am really enjoying boot camp this time. I have kicked my sugar free mint habit into touch and have kept away from nuts. I am drinking and mostly enjoying 3 litres of water a day. Sometimes it is a struggle to get it down so why is it when I go to the pub and drink (FREE) soda water I can drink gallons? I feel guilty about them doing it for free as we had a battle to keep the pub open. I don't do alcohol and hate artificial sweeteners.

Thank you BIWI and everyone.

limberlost · 21/05/2019 09:55

Should add I am an older Mumsnetter (probably should have graduated to Gransnet) so I think my metabolism is quite slow.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 21/05/2019 10:01

Brilliant @Greenbol!

I am tempted to dog out those ski trousers and take a picture to monitor progress this time as well... 🤔

ChippingInLowCarbing · 21/05/2019 10:10

Just popping on quickly to say Hi. I’ve read all the posts, and send hugs, KOKO, woo hoo and ‘that’s brave’ where appropriate x

Rainbow LC will not have caused your infection. Ask the Drs if they know how you might have got it. Adding carbs, of any kind, will throw you out of keto and it’s pointless. There’s nothing in a carb that you need, that can’t be got LC. Adding in carbs will just stall you or make you gain weight.

Hopefully you’ll be home today and in control of your food. When I came out of hospital last year I couldn’t face eating much of anything, certainly not salad or veg cooked in butter. I bought the lowest carb fresh soup, yogurt, and basil tofu. Mostly because I wanted anything I did get down to be healing my body. Nothing full of carbs was going to do that. Hope you’re feeling better soon💐

DrBuckles. I’m sorry you’re feeling so awful. Have you read the rules again to check you’re following them properly? Somehow people seem to have missed things like NO fruit, NO nuts. Are you double checking everything you’re eating/using? Somethings are STUPIDLY more Carby than you’d think. I was going to cheat and use a sachet if chili con carne flavouring the other day - feck me, 48g per 100g and it wouldn’t have made that many portions. Certain veg are really high too and 100g of veg isn’t actually that much. Check everything.

Other than that, as others have said, carb flu/fat adaptation can make you feel AWFUL and can last a good while or come & go. I felt like death warmed up on Sunday.

...and make sure you keep drinking the water. Keep your wee wee’s so clear you can barely see them in the toilet bowl 🤣

Once you’ve checked all of the above (rules & carbs that are sneaky) then the BEST thing to do is just take a leap of faith. IF you follow the rules, you will lose the weight. Once you get over this adjustment period, you will feel good.

I wasn’t convinced the first time either, I felt crap, my weight didn’t shift, I hate diets...I was a grumpy ass - but to my advantage I was terrified and that kept me inline (terrified of my newly diagnosed diabetes & desperately keen not to take medication) so I figured it’s 10 weeks, what have I got to lose by just putting my mind to it & doing it for that time without questioning it? Nothing.

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy, I moaned like hell, I grumped.

But within 3 months I’d lost weight (not as much as meat/egg eaters) but most importantly my blood sugars were in the normal range, my blood pressure and cholesterol was too. YOU can’t see the internal benefits, but they’re there.

You just have to be strong, power through the adaptation and have faith 🌷

VeryLittleOwl. You are very little, I’m sure you’ll be back in those shorts in no time! Good luck with your wrestling match today! 🐑😊

TheWayOfTheWorld. Thank you for sharing & upping the motivation. It’s really great to see actual photos and not photoshopped ones.

It would be great if it you & VeryLittleOwl inspire others to post theirs too.

RainbowHash · 21/05/2019 10:11

Fab pics @TheWayOfTheWorld - very helpful and motivating

ChippingInLowCarbing · 21/05/2019 10:19

limberlost Hi 😊

If you PM AtherstaneTheUnready, she’ll add you to the list (it was locked down so it couldn’t be accidentally messed up again).

You’ve had a great weight weight wise, especially after your previous WOE being quite good anyway.

limberlost · 21/05/2019 10:25

chipping I confess to before starting having partaken of Tesco's kind offer of mini Easter eggs at 13p! each!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 21/05/2019 10:43

limberlost it would have been a crime not to! I had a couple of the smarties Easter eggs, they’re the only ones that seem to have the loose sweets inside (I wish it was buttons!), they instantly take me right back to being 4 years old. I love it.

But it’s all about the broccoli now 🤣

NigellaAwesome · 21/05/2019 10:46

Dr Buckle It could be Herxheimer reaction Basically when we switch to low carb, people who have high yeast content in their GI tract can have this reaction as the yeast die off (from not being fed sugary things) and as they die off, they release toxins.

It should go in a couple of weeks at the most.

shiplessocean · 21/05/2019 10:46

I am 1.5kg down. As I've LC'd a few times, reasonably happy, though annoying I was 2.5kg down when I weighed myself on Friday. I stupidly got cocky and thought I could handle a couple of drinks at a family do... I remember now from last time that confidence can be dangerous on this WOE. Good scales results don't mean I can take my off the ball. This week am being super strict, finding your posts so motivating!
