Starting tomorrow's thread early as I'm not around in the morning

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So far there seem to be some great results already, so I'm hoping they've continued over the weekend.

I love this week because the first weigh-ins are often spectacular, but also all those who were less than convinced are amazed how much they've lost!

It really sounds to me like people have really got to grips with this WOE, which is fantastic.

Here's to you all, and wishing you a good result on the scales tomorrow. (Or with the tape measure or the clothes you're trying on, if that's your preferred method of monitoring progress!)

Just catching up whilst on the bus home from work, this thread is so busy!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 21/05/2019 18:21

MrsBertBibby vegetables are really difficult to be exact about the Carb Count because of the nature of them growing and changing. Younger carrots are more Carby than older carrots 🥕. The cooking process changes the count of veg too. Sainsbury, Tesco & net counter all have Brocolli at between 3.2 & 3.9 per 100g. I don’t know if BIWI has a more accurate source or if the spreadsheet has been accidentally changed. Cauli is showing differently too. So I just err on the side of caution and try not to eat Brocolli every night in large quantities. But for meat eaters, who will be eating less veg, I don’t think it’s quite so important.

Nameusernameuser · 21/05/2019 18:28

I'd love to know how to do that crackling! Mines always a bit soggy.
The more water I drink the thirstier I get, I've drank loads the last couple of days!
Bit of a revaluation, the Waitrose own Greek yoghurt tastes and feels exactly like clotted cream, it is the best yoghurt I've ever ever had!

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/05/2019 18:40

Get the pork belly, cut scores across it, pour loads of boiling water over the fat (I do it over my sink), dry thoroughly. Loads of posh salt.
Then it spent hours in my oven on fairly low. Hours!

And I'm very proud of this it was looking a little blah in the middle because of how it was sitting slightly concave. So I took a small soy sauce dish and bunged it under the middle, making it slightly higher where it was bunching. So it cooked all over.

Ninkaninus · 21/05/2019 18:50

Dinner: Roasted salmon marinated in ginger, garlic, chilli and oil, with broccoli in a garlic, chilli, lemon, soy sauce and sesame oil dressing (a few sesame seeds made it in there as well, but my OH assured me it was only a dessert spoon between the two of us so I happily went with it). Coriander and spring onion to garnish.

18 it really was tasty. I love soups for using up whatever’s left in the fridge/freezer. I hate waste.

MrsT that bellly pork does look divine. Crackling is one of my favourite things!

Hope you all had a lovely day! I think I’ll go for a walk this evening to enjoy the sunshine.

The secret to good crackling is long slow cooking on a low heat such as 140C then half an hour at 220-230C at the end to "crackle" it. And the skin must be really dry before it even goes in to the oven so the pork joint needs to be taken out of the plastic at least a couple of hours before cooking and probably dried with kitchen towel too. You should put salt on immediately before the pork goes in the oven because the salt draws moisture out of the skin which you want to be cooked off by the oven straight away otherwise it will just make the skin soggy.

Good day considering I've been in meetings/on the road, though down on water and veg for those reasons.
B: full English from the buffet, not even tempted by the carby smorgasbord of baked goods, fruit and low fat yogurts- this is food other people eat!
L: chicken tikka pieces with a dip from Waitrose at the services
D: pan fried trout fillet, kale in butter, green beans and broccoli.

Really enjoying the food pictures.

Hello all,

Feeling good today, and took some before photos (which make me look shockingly large). I also bought a tape measure and will measure later.

B: 2 decaf coffee with unsweetened almond milk
L: 2 bowls homemade spiced cauliflower soup (amazing, can share the recipe if anyone wants)
D: Roast chicken with crunchy chopped salad of little gem, radish, spring onion and cucumber with coriander and lime (hm) dressing.

DrBuckles, yes, it is the same yeast that causes gut overgrowth and thrush. Try reading about candida overgrowth. Zoe Harcombe writes extensively about it. She says the key symptoms are bloating, irritable bowel, feeling 'spaced out', water retention, cravings for sugary / yeasty / vinegary foods, athletes foot, thrush, dandruff, fatigue - and symptoms tend to be worse on damp / rainy days.

Interestingly, given the theories on potential lactose intolerance, she also says that lots of people have overlapping issues of candida overgrowth, food intolerance, and hypoglycaemia.

Rayna37 · 21/05/2019 20:16

Right wise bootcampers, what can I do with a load of chicken drumsticks? Defrosting now to cook tomorrow night for lunches. DH bought them, I'm not a fan, but apparently they were reduced...
I'm thinking of baking on a tray with some spices, options available include ras el hanout, sumac, a very wide variety of things that would go in curries/fajita/chilli etc so give me your best recipes!

1stMrsF · 21/05/2019 20:18

@NigellaAwesome yes please share your cauli soup recipe! Put it on the recipe thread.

L - boiled egg, avo, salads, mayo
D - Lamb keema (a Simply food recipe, made it more BC by omitting sugar and peas) spinach, tender stem broccoli and oak Choi, spoonful of Greek yoghurt.

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 20:19

Yes please to spiced cauliflower soup recipe.
I’m looking for some new lunch ideas as I’m finding myself in a bit of repetitive rut.

Also noting down the crackling method. It has always been my nemesis! The best I ever manage is a tiny flukey good bit on outer edge. The rest welds your teeth together Confused

1stMrsF · 21/05/2019 20:20

@Rayna37 there are several recipes on the recipe threads for chicken traybakes that might help give you idea? Drumsticks also casserole well.

Ninkaninus · 21/05/2019 20:20

*Shagme^ (Feel a bit Blush Blush calling you that!) it’s quite fun to photograph my meals. I also find it makes me stop for a minute and really take in how lovely my food is, how fortunate I am to be able to have it, and puts me in a good frame of mind for properly appreciate it. Plus I always find that I get a lot of inspiration from seeing the kinds of meals other people put together so I thought it might give someone else an idea here or there to try something new or slightly different.

1stMrsF · 21/05/2019 20:25

@18pagesfrontandback lunches (all with copious salad and dressing or mayo for fat)
Beef or ham slices spread with philly and rolled up
Hard boiled egg and avocado
Frittata (good for using up scraps and leftover veggies)
Greek salad - cucumber, tomato, feta and olives
Mozzarella, tomato and avocado

If at home
Scrambled eggs and spinach, or smoked salmon or bacon or tomatoes...
Stir fry
Smoked mackerel with remoulade

m0therofdragons · 21/05/2019 20:27

Really struggling this evening. I'm having big sweet tooth cravings which is really unusual since I started in January and it's only because I don't have a bag of squishies I haven't eaten them. What can I nibble?

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 20:27

Out of bottle (so probably not what you’re looking for Rayna), but a quick tasty coating for thighs and drumsticks is the Nando’s PeriPeri sauce. Hot one, orange bottle. It’s only about 2.7g per 100ml and goes a long way.
I just pour a bit on each piece, spread about with back of a teaspoon and roast. Served with hm coleslaw. Pour the chicken fat/sauce juices over coleslaw for added yum (and fat Grin).

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 20:39

Thanks 1stMrsF. I work from home so prep/cooking not usually a problem. I find I’m just always eating omelettes/frittata, salmon/eggs/spinach/eggs/mushrooms/eggs/Avocado/eggs. Or stir-fried veg with a fat/protein. Just getting a bit bored.

Might start making the meat/cheese roll ups though. Another poster mentioned making cucumber ones as well, which sounded nice and refreshing.
Just need a few days off the usual suspects I think.

Ordinarily I would also make loaded salads this time of year, but have been too lazy so far!

Like the idea of a vat of soup in fridge for convenience.

NigellaAwesome · 21/05/2019 20:41

Spiced cauliflower soup added to the vegetarian recipe thread

Funnily, I went on to the original recipe thread and found posts from me from 2012!! I was Beryl then.

18pagesfrontandback · 21/05/2019 20:44

PeriPeri only 2.4g not 2.7g.

For ref, I’ve probably only used that amount (2.4g) between 3 batches of 7/8 pieces of thighs/drumsticks. So 0.8g per batch.

Makes a good quick bung in the oven job.

Ninkaninus · 21/05/2019 20:47

m0ther when I’m really craving sweet things I find that 2 or 3 tablespoons of double cream sometimes does the trick.

m0therofdragons · 21/05/2019 20:54

Thanks @Ninkaninus I've just figured out the issue... I forgot to eat dinner Blush (to busy ferrying dc around)!

Ninkaninus · 21/05/2019 20:56

Heheh yes that’ll be it, then! Got anything quick you can have?

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 21/05/2019 21:14

Busy trying to get psi the butt DC to bed so haven't really been able to read everything but it sounds like done great recipes on here, I too am stuck in a bit of a rut.
Did find thin pork steaks, marinaded in garlic, from aldi, they were delicious, had one tohht with loads of brocoli, spring greens and asparagus
Apart from that only had scrambled eggs as we were late up for school and as its my day off, I ran around the whole bloody day trying to get stuff done. Have realised my water bottle is 600ml not 500, so I'm happy to find my roughly 3-4 bottles a day plus tea etc probably means I've done alright for water. Going to try to look at the recipe threads once I finally have DS to sleep, he's really pushing all my buttons now, would be do east to pour a glass of wine! But I won't... Not till the weekend anyway (I started BC early, promise!)

IStillMissBlockbuster · 21/05/2019 21:17

Hey. So I feel a bit shit because I went to my in laws for dinner and I managed to turn down the pasta and just had the meat without raising eyebrows, but then, you know how some people insist? I felt in a corner and had a small cupcake for dessert. I am a bit gutted because it wasn't because I really wanted it, I just felt like I had to and I really wanted to do this two weeks faithfully, because it's only bloody two weeks!!! But there's no point dwelling on it I suppose.
